Well; as the other group seems stuck; let us advance them along.

Moving cautiously, covering tracks and scent as best they can; Gauis and Caran move through the broken lands seeing battlefield after battlefeild reminders of the horrors of war balanced against the horror of not fighting against those who would destroy or enslave humanity.

Often as they travel do they see fresh signs of roving bands of ghouls and other monsters.

after several days they begin to smell the sea once again; there is tension in the air and it appears another powerful storm is to the south and moving at an unatural pace and full of fury and lightening. After a few hours travel; many apparently abandoned farm houses can be seen; some burnt and broken; but many just weathered and abandoned. After a few more hours travel; Caran and Gauis come to a path that leads down the somewhat cliff like predapice that overlooks a small communty down by the sea; perhaps 30 building or so; a short peir and dock.

The storm and its fury is much closer now; Caran, this is going to a bad one; its fury is unnatural and the magic tension in the air could be cut with a knife; spread on a pita and eaten it is so thick.

Gauis; in you cultural view; this is obviously Neptune/Poseidon angry and cleansing the sea or perhaps striking down a community who has offended him. That would be a typical viewpoint; but please be encourage to do and act as you wish.

Moving hurried; you could get down the small cliff path in a few moments; but could stumble and fall onto the rocks below; moving at a normal pace there is not difficulty; but might shorten your time finding shelter; of course; in the community below you could easily find uncertain shelter.

gaging the storm; it will probably take about the same time for you to get to the buildings below as it will take the storm to make landfall.

this cove itself has several long, rocky sandbars; and many large rocks stick up out of the water; more are evident as the water surges and withdraws and more are exposed; the inlet where the community dock is; seems clear and has a large rocky sandbar that looks human made which shelters that area from bombardment of waves from the open sea.

you see no obvious fires or signs of habitation; but this must be the area where the Oracle is located.

Gaius and Caran; please make three separate spot rolls; thanks
Also; you guys can go back in time to investigate any of the things I meantioned if you like.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

to those on the ship; there appears to be very large rocks in the water; most of the oars are broken; the captain orders the rest drawn in as each side of the ship has a gigantic leviathan. Apparently they are guiding the ship; keeping it from turning over and are guiding it toward land; or doom; who knows....

GM VAL - can we do a little roll call here please; i would like to do a skirmish battle soon so we can all see how it works by pbp and make suggestions on improvements.

ok; I generally do individual initiative so that everyone can get their characters benefits. My mobs do either individual if small enough groups or i will give each type of monster an individual initiative; heroes and the like always have their own; so in this case; the pc's and the captain have their own; two mates, ship priest and cook have their own; then crews.

am considering options for fights and posting; lets discuss this on the discussion thread please.

Sorry Valegrim, been at work which makes it difficult to post.

Here are my spot and balance roll results if still applicable.

Spot: 7 + 3 = 10

Balance: 19 + 4 = 23 (uncertain about cloth armor adj. so it isn't figured in).

With the ocean turbulence, I shall try and find something to grab on to in order to anchor myself as much as possible. I will look around the best I can and see if everyone near me seems to be as safe as they can be, if not I may consider attempting to help them reach safety (though with my small size I find it unlikely that I could do anything).

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

your armor has no negative armor adjustments.

For you size; there are all kinds of things; finding some safe spot is easier than for normal sized people as being on the deck; the walls of the ship are over your head so less wind; but bit more likely to get soaked; the ship walls and rails only come up to waist high in a normal human; there are lots os of ropes; benches and stuff like that to hold onto.

Caran; keep in mind you are not sure where exaclty the Oracle is located; chances are being an Oracle; they know your looking though if they are any good hehe

ok; spots
1) you dont see any fires or movement of life in the village but while scanning; you do see one door on a house that was flapping in the wind; is no longer flapping; like someone closed it or tied it down possibly.
2) you see a somewhat large ship of unknown design caught out to sea an looks like it will crash into the rocks; three appears to be many strangly dressed humans aboard.
3) the bay where the docks are, well, the water is very very strange; though much calmer than the ocean; it is boiling and thrashing; but no steam in the cool air of the storm; you cant tell much more at this distance. Keep in mind you are several miles from the bay, about 3.

Caran and Gaius move down the path; it is well used and is not very difficult; the path continues past some apparently abandoned houses to either side; weeds and grass overgrown; and other signs of neglect are evident.

the path comes to a three way split; a signpost once stood here; in the sand and grass a few feet away; you see the rotted and broken signpost; one sign is attached; the other three are laying on the ground easily found with taking a 10 on search:

Dallia 7 DM
Delphi 12 DM
Amphipolos 17 DM
Perpolipos 57 DM

there is no way to tell which sign pointed which way.

I look at Gauis and motion toward the house that had the flapping door "Looks like there might be someone in the village... maybe we should see if they can tell us what direction Delphi is." Looking out towards the bay I say "Maybe they can shed some light on what's happening with the bay too." Then looking toward the ship saying more to myself than anything; "Though it looks like that ship is in danger and the passengers may need help."

I absently pet Eruanna for a moment, shift my bags, then start to head towards the village.

Male Dwarf Cleric 6 (Earth and Protection Domain)

Sorry Val, just started back at work and really snowed under. Will try and post later tonight with some stuff for you. Quick question, have I had time or oportunity to refocus my spells yet? ie. has more than a day gone past.

Male Dwarf Cleric 6 (Earth and Protection Domain)

All of ths is OOC

Ok finally at home and have a few spare mintes to respond. Spot rolls - storm 20 + 3= 23, boat 19+3 = 22 (nice a 20 and 19 off the first rolls)

Strength - 4 + 2(str) + 4 (dwarf stabilty) = 10 guess I'm on my behind...again

If I've had time to prep my altenate spells for the ship then this is what I do.

0 - took Guidance instead of purify;

1st - Took obscuring mist instead of Divine favour (to put off pirates getting in close), took remove fear instead of magic weapon.

2nd - Took Curse of ill firtune instead if delay poison (just in case we get pirated again)

3rd - Dropped both my prepped for Water Walk (up to five of us can walk on water for 50 minutes), and Sink (makes a creature sink below water and it has to make swim checks)

Assuming the above is all good

Since I've prepped water walk I'm back in my armour (feel much more confident now).

If the above is all ok I'll cast water walk on everyone who comes to me when I call (preference to those sent on this mission, then those first to me regardless of rank).

Then, if the opportnity arrises I'll try to sink one of the Levitathens (don't like my chances though)

When this is done I'll go below and retrieve as much of the magic gear from the sea chest as I can manage. Preference is scrolls, then potions. Then whatever else is left behind.

Some concentration checks for you (casting on rough seas) - 16 + 10 = 26 (30 if combat casting allowed); 9 + 10 = 19 (23 if CC allowed).

In itiative roll (if needed) 6+6 = 12.

Ok, think that's about it for now. Depending on your answers Val, I'll post a description of what I do in character later.

PS. May be a bit slower on posts this week due to work comitments. Will try to post lots of options for you if I can. Will also roll some prerolls for you as needed. feel free to step in for me as needed if I'm a bit slow sorry.

Cheers

Rama tries his best not to throw up his lunch. He is clearly not used to water voyages.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

Ok; you get tossed and turned by the ship a bit; and very soaked with salt water; but after the two leviathians are next to the ship; it steadies quite a bit and stops rocking. (with your spot roll) It seems the two creatures are guiding the ships around the rocks and keeping the ship from smashing into them; are you sure you want to try to sink one of them? As far as you know this behavior is not normal so these creatures are probably being controlled by someone....

At the moment things have calmed quite a bit so concentration and standing are not difficult and the ship no longer seems in peril so you can cast your water walk at this point without issue.

You also have lots of time to grab any gear you like.

the storm is getting much closer now; strangly the water ahead of the ship in the bay is very angry and boiling; wierd.

ok; the ship is guided into the harbor by the two creatures who then turn and leave; the ship sails toward the dock; but the water is thrashing with all kinds of activity; a battle is going on underwater; who the combatants are is not clear; the storm begins to hit with its fury and the water surges as a large wave carries the ship up onto the beach a good 40 ft (big wave)

Balance dc 16 everyone; as the ship heaves and slides a bit on the shore.

After those who fell stand up; several things can be seen; this is a sandy beach on a very rocky shore near a cliff; up the 60" cliff is grass and some trees; there is apparently an abandoned village here; two people can be seen on the path from the cliff to the village not far away; but out of the water comes strange looking men with claws and tentacles; they are slimy and very unfriendly looking. They seem to be fighting some very large fish; with the storm being here; visibility is surprisingly good; like your in the eye of it until several lightening bolts strike the bay water and stun everything there. A titanic man can be seen in the water with his hands in the air; perhaps he is directing the storm.; the water comes up to his waist and he sticks out another 45 feet or so. he is wearing classic greek gear; breast plate and toothbrush helm. :) his skin appears blueish green.

A bout 15 creatures are surging toward the ship with blood and menace in their goggle eyes; most of the crew is stunned and still down; the captain and mates are trying to rally them; what does the party do

Gaius and Caran; you guys see all of this; what do you do?

Balance (1d20+2=12)

Ok; the mobs are incoming; lets everybody roll initative; all pc's being heroes can get up for free and take a round to get ready for the attackers; so as they are not obviously using any rage weapons; anyone who wants to range attack can do so for one round for free; others man manuever or buff or whatever they like; the bad guys will be meeting you in hand to hand next round.

monster A init 16 (moving forward to attack)
monsters B init 8 (moving forward to attack)
(captain)npc 1 init 12 (getting crew rallied)
(officers) npc 2 init 13 (handing out weapons)

after I get everyones initiatives; we will start counting them down;

any players giving buffs or having auras that modify other characters; try to be clear about where you are and what your doing; other characters, please let me know if your, for example, trying to be near Rama for his aura benefits, thanks.

At work now so am going to be able to respond very fast. Balance 17=4+13, I bring out the new cross bow and take a shot at one of the attackers, BA 3 + Dex 4 + with in 30’ 1 + die roll 14= 21/22 + any plus of weapon. Not sure what the damage will be if I hit. After shooting the cross bow ill draw my dagger and head toward Rama so I can fight opposite him when I can. Initative 21=4+17. Dagger + attack is +8 1d4+3 damage + 3d6 when sneak attack is useable. My AC is 18, touch ac 14 and flat footed 18 HP 45 Saves fort 4, ref 8, will 4

Male Dwarf Cleric 6 (Earth and Protection Domain)

I'll stick with my initiative roll Vale. I'll have still cast water walk on everyone in the party, plus one other crew member of your choice as I thought we were gonna sink for sure.

Realising the Leviathen wasn't trying to sink us I'll not try to sink him :)

Balance check 13 - 3(strength and armour check) = 10.

Guess my first action would be to stand up.

Rushing to work atm but here's my overview of rough plan.

Next I'd cast Bless on as many of the people in the boat as possible.

If the opportunity arises before these things reach the boat I'd cast soften earth and stone around them to try and drop them into a sink hole of sand, but not before I'd cast the bless spell.

Will post more detailed stuff tonight after work.

Balance check 5 + 4 = 9.

Once I am on my feet and can prepare for battle, I will begin by casting Glitterdust in the most condensed area of foes within range range is 130 ft, and it affects a 10' radius spread.

After that my plan is to fly behind the ship and then cast Mage Armor on myself, giving me an AC of 18 (10 + 4 for Mage Armor, +4 for Dex).

My initiative is 9 + 4 (Dex) = 13.

Glitterdust is a standard action, so if possible, I'll fly as well if time and the situation permits within the first round.

I fly at a speed of 40'.

If Glitterdust is successful, it will blind create a visible outline around they and any invisible creatures within the area of effect. A Will saving throw negates the spells effect. My DC is 16 (10 + 2 for spell level + 4 for charisma bonus).

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

this is the magic xbow that Baelinor gave you right?
1d12 piercing damage; +3d6 lightening damage; shot looks like a ball of electricity. I will track the other damage of the bow for enhancement and stuff. Bow takes around to recharge; can be fired every other round. What do you do with the bow after you fire it?

so; this round I will roll damage; 10+11; to one target who now looks pretty bad. It stops in its tracks; looks stunned.

Yes its the one Balinor gave me. After I shot it Ill sling it on my back and them in my move to Rama ill draw my dagger.

Male Dwarf Cleric 6 (Earth and Protection Domain)

As he stands from the deck of the boat, Erkholt sees the creatures running at them. "Moradin, I call on yer blessin' for those of us here. Let us strike true against our enemies, mighty Earth Lord"

(Casts bless) Everyone considered an ally within 50ft are at +1 to hit and +1 saves vs fear.

Seeing the creatures closing too fast to cast again, the Dwarf steps up next to Rama and ThoronHen, knowing that the three of them and Lshay are the best defense the boat has until the captain can get his crew responding.

He draws the magic mace that Baelinor gave to him and unslings his shield, ready to face these foes. "Steady lads, these here things look right nasty, and watch for them tentacles reaching out and trippin' us. 'Tis hard to fight while lyin' around gettin' all dirty."

When next I get to act I'll move up in support of Rama and Thoronhen, knowing I need to be close enough to touch them in order to heal. I use a light shield so I can carry my Holy symbol in my left hand. This allows me to cast during combat.

Also Val, I updated my character sheet with the loot you gave us a while back. I'll send you a post about what I think the things are and how I'm trying to identify them later. It'll be a back in time post to represent me studying these things while on the 4 day journey on the boat if that's ok. Otherwise it'll be my attmepts when we get some downtime (camping at night etc)

After I shot it Ill sling it on my back and them in my move to Rama ill draw my dagger.

preround; cast and move; no problem; the power sings out of you and washes over the pc's on the ship and most of the crew.

as if anticipating battle; the mace hums with power.

So I'm sorry but I think its best if you all continue on with out me my interests have kind of shifted (4e) and pbp is not what I'm looking for sorry. The campaign world though is really interesting and what made me want to try this out sorry that I just couldn't get in to a pbp style game.

ok; shoot and move in preround; what is your initiative round action; are you discussing tactics with Rama? if so; please do so; let me know what your action will be; will count down init in a bit.

I still need some initiatives; like Gauis and Caran; if Gauis doest post; I will just have him guard Caran and go on her initiative.

I watch the movement of the ship into the bay; seeing the Ship shoved onto the shore and creatures coming out of the boiling water attacking the passengers; I realize the passengers will need assistance. If I'm not in range (within 70'), I move to within range, then take a shot at the nearest creature to me. (I hope to draw the one I hit towards us so Eruanna can assist with the attack)

Initiative = Roll 17 + Dex (+4) = 21
Base Attack 3 + D20 roll (15) = 18 (don't know if this hits)
if it does, I rolled a 6 on the d6 - using my bow:
M/Work Composite Elven Short Bow (str 18) Dmg 1 D6 +4 Crit x3 Range Inc 70'

sure; you hit; you also get to add your dex bonus in with a bow; am giving a -2 circumstance due to the very windy/stormy conditions, but you still hit.

Was there a particular one you are aiming at; guess I can just randomize it as your attack is pre init; and you can still move if you like and your going to go before them in the intiative round; so you can fire again if you like; I will script the sequence once everyone has given me thier pre round and first round actions.

Well; be well Gauis; hope you find what your looking for.

Base Attack 3 + D20 roll (18) + Dex (+4) = 25 (I forgot my dex on previous roll & Chris (CAT) had to remind me)

Male Dwarf Cleric 6 (Earth and Protection Domain)

Action for first round is to ready my shield. No move action this round. I'm standing to the left of Rama, maybe with Thoronhen between us if he chooses to.

As the creatures rush towards him, Erkholt realises the people he's with have never fought beside him. He shouts some quick instructions.

"Righto lads, and lass if'n ye can hear me back there. If ye get hit and ye need me healin' ye needs ta let me know. I cannae focus on hittin these things and gettin' you the divine power at the same time."

"Captain, we'll try'n' hold these things at the edge of the boat till you an your crew are ready. Dinnae take to long though lad, I'm not liking the looks of these things."

As one of the creatures is struck by an arrow, the dwarven battlepriest looks briefly up at the figure on the cliff path. "Aye then, looks like we may get some helpful company soon. Hope she don't get to caught up in this, exposed as she is. I aint sure we can get to her fro here, what say you Rama?" A glint has entered the dwarf, and he seems much lighter on his feet as he joins battle.

Not sure how you play the reality of combat healing Val. We are bit flexi in home games. If anyone needs healing they need to let me know I guess. Probably best to save combat heals for heavy damage, but these are relative things. I'll leave it up to players and NPC's to tell me how badly they require healing. Something like "I'm seriously hurt" for big heals or "I'm a little hurt" for lower heals. Generally I'll save big heals for more experience fighters (including the NPC's you noted earlier Val). For minor NPC's like crew it'll be lesser spells as they are less tough. This may be metagaming but I don't know how to balance my spell expenditure in a PbP any other way.

Some rolls for you - Save rolls 17, 7, 18, 7, 2. Attacks - 18+5 BaB , damage (whatever my mace does +2 strength), 5 + 5 BaB (damage as before). My AC is 20, My HP's are 55

Male Dwarf Cleric 6 (Earth and Protection Domain)

forgot to add my +1 bonus for bless to those rolls Val. The attack rolls are in case you need something from me and I'm not posting in time

Male Dwarf Cleric 6 (Earth and Protection Domain)

FLASHBACK The Phoenecian Trading Vessel - 2 days before teh battle of Titan Beach (as I currently think of it)

Erkholt sat staring at the vast expanse of the sea, trying to concentrate on holding down his breakfast as the infernal boat continued to rock in its unnatural motion. Unnatural to a dwarf at least.

"Bah" he states loudly "Ye never find a Mountain rockin this way. I tell ye, even in the fiercest o' storms you can rely on the studyness of the rock beneath ye feat to stay where it is."

He turns to the others gathered near him, a smile and a glint in his eye as the beginnings of a memorable tale spring to mind.

"Why I remember this one time when me and me Da was caught up in a high storm in the mountain passes near me old clanhold. Twas a mighty blow, mind. Not like these little zephyrs you sailors call a wind down here in the lowlands." His smile broadens at the frowns on the faces of a few nearby sailors.

"Nay, this one had the bite o' old snow from deep in the peaks upon it. The type o' gale to freeze a manling where he wlked and put a great rim o' frost on even the greatest of dwaven beards." The dwarven cleric looked around to see that his audience had gotten the gist of just how cold and blowy this storm must have been.

"Well me Da thought it best that we take shelter see. Twere gettin' on toward dark and the mule we had (Errols old ma, she was) was beginnin to tire under the burden of the ale we was tradin'" Settling into his tale now, Erkholt placed one foot on a rowing bench and leaned on his knee, bracing naturally with the roll of the boat as only one so low to the ground can.

"We find this cave see, and get's to setting up a camp when outa the storm a dirty great Bear comes a trompin'. This beasty was taller than yon Paladin by at least a halflings height, and weighed nigh on 1000kg if'n it was gram. Seemed he'd got a hold of old Sooties scent (that's me Da's Mule ifn ye hadn't realised). Things had been a mite lean up in the peaks recently so this one must a been somewhat peckish. The thing didn't e'en look twice at me and me Da, jus dropped to it's haunches and began to charge at the mule, who was kicking and screamin fit ta bust a gut by this stage." Forgetting his upset stomach completely, the dwarf leans down and grabs a bite of the salted meat that the sailors kept as day rations and continues his story around a mouthful of food.

"Well, me Da had a soft spot for that there Mule and he wasn't gonna let some damnable acve bear eat her affore we got our ale delivered. So's he steps in front of the thing and just braces his feet. Sets em like they was part of the stones emself and utters a prayer to Moradin for strength. I sweat to ye now, his feet durned near looke like stone when that bear done hit him. Never seen a creature so big hit the ground so hard. Was like it had been poleaxed. Me Da looked a little shaken himself mind, but he was still standin where the bear was sittin. He leaned down then and said somethin to the bear that I couldnae hear over the screamin of Sooty. Well, that bear, he just got up and ambled outa that cave shakin his head, nice as you please." He swallowed the last of the jerked meat and smiled in reminiscence.

"Yep, ye can achieve alot with the bracin' strength of the Earth te back ye up"

"Well then, since we're stuck on this infernal rocking horse, let's hear a tale or two. Lshay, you come from foreign parts, what things have you got te say that'd help a landsick old dwarf like me pass the time o'day? Or maybe you ThoronHen, something from the elflands maybe? Rama, surely you got a story or two, great fighter type that ye be? Don't hold back none of ye, this boat ride aint gonna last forever ye know."

Hehehee, I love old stories. Time to share guys (and girls) Let's regail each other with the fanciful tales of our characters pasts
