"Thank you Thoronhen, I guess now we wait." I absently scratch Eruanna's head and say "Perhaps we should talk with others waiting in the meanwhile. It may be we are on similar paths to be here at this time."

To Namaste & companions "Well met! I am Caran and my companion here is Eruanna" motioning to my wolf. "Yes, I follow a path as a protector of Nature." I smile. "Would you mind if we join you while we wait to see the Oracle?"

Rest assured, though I know little of his people - indeed, only what I've heard in stories - I count myself a good judge of character, and I believe Lord Llvenoc is a good soul, not at all like the stories and whispered tales would paint. Know that you've nothing to fear in my presence, and very doubtful anything to fear in his, provided you are folk of good heart. He has faced much and weathered very trying storms, and I beseech you, treat him with all the dignity any nobleman deserves."

As I have heard the drow have had some hard times I can understand the lament in his song. The law of no combat has kept me from just attack and will do so. We will see if this ones intentions are as pure as his song. I have only know few of his kind none of which makes me think of peace will come of any encounter unless you are currently of value to them. So lets talk to "Lord" Llevenoc.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

just want to point out to you guys that Drow are blood enemies and hated by other elves as in attack on sight; fighting here would be foolish, but there you go. Racial predjudice being what it is.

Caran; you have probably heard that the Emperor has allowed a group of Drow delagates into his court to hear their plea. Remember that drow are generally chaotic evil; murderers and manipulators who distain the weak.

Thronhen; you of course remember that this is so and saw Elves and Drow coldly ignoring each other on the Southern continent; your just not sure if this drow is aware of that or the cease fire or the like.

all of you elves including the drow should be feeling the blood pounding in your ears and an adrenaline rush. I was wondering how this would go without the three peacemakers; the cleric; paladin and fey.

for further info; check out elves and drow in the d&d books.

I am not at all saying your not playing this well; just wanted to give you the background in case you were not aware.

Ok Llvenoc, I understand the Idea of a greater design pushing you along. But Choice still needs to be made and I am a Chooser not a Waiter. But it does look like that at this time I have chosen to be a waiter as we can not rush when visions come to some one. Just like Information must take its time to be gathered and understood then passed on to the next person. Some times that next person needs to wait until the time is right for the previous person to assimilate the information. It is the same here probably for all of us to wait for the Oracle to assimilate the visions she received.
So seeing that Time has placed us on hold from the events of the world we might as well take the time to reflect on the past. The easiest way to do so is to tell stories of the past. So Ill begin with what I can tell of why I am her now.

I was a Minstrels helper as I was growing up. Learning how to speak in public how to listen to others to gage an individuals intentions or even a groups. But alas I do not have a voice to sing ballads. The best I could do are the more bawdy lyrics. I shrug with a smile Even though my fingers are dexterous enough to play many instruments I was told that the soul of my music was as bad as the lyrics I knew. So I was trained in the art of the trapsmith and used as a sometime messenger.
It was as a messenger that had me travel to the area where the Well of Life is and where the armies of the Elves, Dwarves, the Egyptians, some northern barbarian tribesmen, and some Oriental peoples are encamped. I was to deliver to a personage named Bailnor who had then sent me with three others upon a ship to a harborage close to here. We had come set upon a fierce storm that had beached us in a little village about an hours walk from here. During this storm we saw many strange sights and when beached we where attacked by tentacled humanoids that we dispatched some and the rest ran back into the sea. This is when I meet Caran here and yon Greek as they had entered the area from inland. As she was looking for the directions to the Oracles we decided to go together to the village to see if we could get help for both her and for the crippled ship. Here we met with a mutant crab that nearly killed many of the crew and us with them. I also meet with a hermit who provided the directions to get here in the same village. This hermit did not seem right in the head but he did state that he had talked with the Oracle and he knew his future.

Well This ends my tail on how I have been deposited by Time to be here. Maybe we can get a tail from out player of instruments.

I am trying to keep said neutrality by steering the conversation to other thoughts but you seem to want to keep the tension high. Be that as it may I will abide by the Laws that are set here and not fight others here unless I am attacked first then I Will defend myself. I know that having laws does not mean that others are going to obey them. So instead of thinking that the laws are going to protect me all the time I take precautions against the unlawful.

The Chaos in the world is what is currently the major problem that has caused the demons and the undead to run rampant. It is only with people like the Emperor that has brought order to the many differing views of the elves and others. This will only strengthen the world.

Spoiler:
If you did beat my bluff I dont seem to be as having as much fervor about the Emperor as I let on
I believe the Emperor has even a delegation of Drow in audience with him. There is a cease fire as you will between the surface Elves and the Drow proclaimed until there will be an accord put in place. But I take it that you have not heard of this.

Demons, and the Undead are just pawns for the Devourers. It matters not if you follow every rule or are a free spirit. The Devourers care not who they feast upon. It is those that are weak of Mind, of Spirit, and of Flesh that make them grow stronger. It is because of this why they come and try to prey on us all.

After my own Sense Motive check of 20 = (Roll of 17 and +3 Charisma bonus), I feel assured that Caran is truthful about her goals. "Lady Caran, I do feel the plight you speak of, though perhaps not in the same way." With your Sense Motive check, you'll have noticed that when you spoke of your visions, Namaste seemed to take a keener interest in your tale, and when you spoke of the torturing of Mother Earth, her pained expression seems genuine. "Nature is a vast and grand tapestry, and upon it are painted many faces, of which the face we call "Mother Earth" is but one. It is the one, however, that chance has brought all of us here to live upon ... or within (casting an acknowledging glance at Llvenoc). Nature has many paths, some of which cannot be trod upon by foot, or by sail or by wing. It is some of these other paths that I have learned to tread - a family trait, perhaps, as my father also heard the call of the Traveler - and I have felt an assault upon them, as real as the assaults upon this earth. Paths through the Planes are being blocked inexplicably. On the astral plane are doors to multitudes of other planes, including this one. Some of those doors are now closed by means unknown, even as others are opened where they should not be. Many of these abominations that plague this world as we speak - the undead, the demonic hordes, other things that should not be spoken of - are here because of those gates that should not be. If both plagues are brought by the same bearer, and I believe they must be, then indeed our paths are common. If our destiny is to fight on this side of the veil, then I am capable with a sword, and possess some useful skills as well. If our destiny is to fight on the other side of the veil, then my talents as a planar wayfarer might prove invaluable. Perhaps the Oracle will tell us which battlefield is ours, but in defense of Nature, both earthly and planar, I would be honored to join my cause to yours."

I smile and feel relieved that there are others here that feel the same, knowing that we can make a difference in this fight. "Thank you both. Perhaps as we wait for the Oracle's guidance we can get to know one another some or speak of our goals in this worldly plight." "Not at all." I gather my skirts beneath me so that they aren't splayed all over the ground, making room for the wolf. "She's a lovely and magnificent animal. Back near my home, there are forest elves, 'wood elves' I believe they are called by most. They would sometimes keep the company of wolves, in much the same way as humans keep the company of pets, but these animals were not pets, they were perfectly wild, but willing companions. Never had I seen such a relationship between man and beast. I once made the folly of trying to peer into the mind of one of the elves' wolf companions. It seemed such an intelligent creature that I thought it just might be possible to mindlink with it - another talent my people possess. Suffice to say, I understood almost nothing of what I saw, but what I felt was a purity, a strength of character and a ... raw ... sense of self such as I've never experienced. I don't know that I would ever want to try it again, but it left me with a profound respect for these creatures."

It seems that the four of us are guided here by common and related causes. Perhaps our overall goal is one goal, and we should see the Oracle as one?

F Elf Druid 5th

prior to this point I probably would have told you about my visions and that I've come for guidance of the Oracle on them - (I just didn't want to copy paste the same thing again and feel repetitive - sorry guys)

I am sure the conversations have been pleasant, learning that we are each here for similar reasons, and though we are from differing backgrounds we are on relatively the same path at this point. I would listen to the sad songs played and to each of you as you tell your tales of your pasts and what brought you here.

"Yes, Unity in this will probably be our best option." I stand and brush myself off than say "Shall we go now then?"

Well I was advised to come and talk to the Oracle to find where my path is to go. So I might as well find out of we are meant to be together and if so where we are going.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

The priestess motions you to follow her; you go past some guards and up a long, rocky, and winding path; well used so not that unpleasant; some steps have been put in for the more difficult areas. At the end of the path you can see a small temple; kinda like a stone gazebo; 9 stone columns holding up a roof; each of the columns are carved with some stuff; but at this distance you cannot tell what they are but imagine it will come clear when you get closer; the area is supernaturally bright and radiates power; like the sun shines on it a little more than any other place. The area around the gazebo is lush with thick low grass; some goats are grazing nearby and you can see rabbits and see evidence of small burrowing animalsm, well those like the druid who would look.

As you approach you can see a human priestess sitting in a fairly comforable chair, she is fairly petite, good looking; and has a black cloth over her eyes; her robes are light yellow with some red; there is also a lightly armored elf standing behind and next to her, holding a bow with a few arrows ready; she also has some fairly impressive looking weapons; her face is full of hate and anger while the priestess appears tranquil and serene.

on the path you all have pleanty of time to ready pretty much however you wish; just let me know.

The columns are all cut in relief each depicting one of the Greek dieties; the roof is all to the sun diety Apollo. There is one inscription; on the roof; it says: Holy Shrine of Delphi.

I'm going to consult the massive tome of my brain to see if there is any knowledge hidden therein about the Oracle and whether it is supposed to be accompanied by an ill-tempered and heavily armed guardian. I dunno, maybe she's supposed to absorb all the anger, strife and negativity that comes around in order to allow the pythia to remain completely entranced.

Knowledge (History) roll: 14 + 5 = 19.

Of course, since Namaste is from a sheltered region, you may wish to apply a penalty to her knowledge of history of the outside world, but on the other hand, her father's well-traveled exploits may have given her access to enough knowledge to mitigate the penalty. Up to you. And if Knowledge (History) wouldn't be the correct roll for that, let me know what would be.

No; you can remember nothing like that; though you do come up with the memory that the Oracle sometimes asks a boon or trades information for action and has been known to exchange for services; the elf is probably in service and hates it so hates everything but is true to her word. So, depending on the impact or your questions; they are likely to require service; you now remember that the orcs came up where with chests; probably to exchange for thier answers...

She is a living person, a deity in her glory; but she is gravely wounded; great slashes and wounds can be seen from the heavens; gaping wounds that would kill any mortal; she is not healing; cannot heal; without help she and the earth will be wounded forever." I briefly pause with a sad sigh then continue, "Things are not as they should be, too dark, sickly; slithering tendrils of undeath draining life from everywhere it touches; people struggling for naught; the delicate balance upturned... chaos everywhere. The sun rises; shining and bright; holy and beautiful; it shines on mother earth and she is strengthened; slight respite; but the darkness of death and chaos are too much; the plants are being choked, they are dying; the trees and grass and all flora and fauna shout out in dismay. There is a beautiful face in the sun; glorious but vain; he is distressed by what he sees, he can help; but others, mortals upon the earth must act. The Sun weeps and sheds more light trying to blot out the undead and restore life to the plants but it cannot; they burrow from within. I could see differences in people; some people seem much clearer than others; they are the ones trying to help; noble houses and leaders of men who drive back the scourge of undeath. Beneath them the world rots, but they do not see it; something is killing the trees; something dark and reptilian; twisting; changing; warping..." I trail off; you see tears staining my cheeks. "As my druid friend correctly observes, there is a pestilence on the land. But its grip lies not merely with the land, the roots, the leaves, the air and water, but also with the people, the politics, war and strife turning once fond neighbors into bitter enemies. Its reach goes beyond the material plane to other planes as well. My people are planar travelers, many, and I find that the planes no longer open upon my homeland. Indeed, many more doors from the planes have closed since I arrived here. This pestilence, this sickness on the land and its people, they are symptoms of something that runs deeper. Tempted as we may be to scratch at the sores and rashes this disease wroughts upon the land, no disease has ever been healed by only scratching at the itch. I wish to learn who or what is at the root of this, and which battleground it is that I - that we must seek to play our fated roles. On a personal front, I would also know what has become of my family, my friends at home in Adar, with whom I can no longer make contact, and of those of my coterie who came to this land with me, dear friends all."

Wise Oracle I have only come to give my thanks. I ask nothing of you for you have already given me so much. A chance.

Namaste the way you speak it reminds me of an infection. I have no apothacery training but I do know if a limb can not be healed it is often severed to stop the rot from spreading. Perhaps we are being severed?

Yes, Caran, of course there is as things could be affected to change the balance in any direction, but what is your question?

she gazes at you; perhaps into you or through you...

"I have been having some troubling visions that I could use your guidance on" I take a moment to try to put into words the intensity of the visions; "The visions are intense and foreboding. I feel as though I am taken into the heavens, moving through them as if I'm riding a great chariot across the sky to look upon on Mother Earth. "I fear that with each passing day things are getting worse. There has to be something we can do to stop this; bring balance back..."

Hmm, I can tell you that your immediant family is well; each to their own choices; but alive and in good health; as to your friends; I cannot see this so easily and to look deeper would cost you, though not much depending upon how close your friendship bonds are; specific question are much easier to handle; a specific friend; a group ;things of that nature. Those that are trapped here as you are, if that is your perception, I can say this; 3 are dead; 4 wish they were and are in the hands of vile forces; one is lost and requires aid; two are well, besides you; only the four in captivity have any chance of aiding your people at this time; with the current status quo.

As for the roots of these problems; I could tell you; but your mind could not handle the answer; your body would dissolve; your mind gone; as what is left of you would turn into that which the rest of us need content; that price is to high; you could not pay it; I offer this in stead; ask how that you may affect the plans of those who have cut off your sphere of influence from this plane; that would not cost you as much; or perhaps you could choose a coarse of action; if you ally yourself to a goal the vision becomes much clearer; which side would you aid; to grow the pestilence or to destroy it?

"As my druid friend correctly observes, there is a pestilence on the land. But its grip lies not merely with the land, the roots, the leaves, the air and water, but also with the people, the politics, war and strife turning once fond neighbors into bitter enemies. Its reach goes beyond the material plane to other planes as well. My people are planar travelers, many, and I find that the planes no longer open upon my homeland. Do you ask if we are being severed; well; I can say that we are if things develop as they are; the forces allied against the pestilance have sent the Judge/Destroyer; he is arrived in the North; he studies; he may sever us all all any physician cuts out the rot of a limb. Only those heroes with divine guidance have any chance of success to save this world; this is why your friend, Namaste, cannot reach his homeland; thus the contagion cannot spread.

Know this; I am the Counciler and thus here to prepare you for the true questions you must ask; that you may save this world; continue; that the question arise and the Oracle appear to guide you. <she says> I feel you are close; close to the discovery; have any of you studies prophesy? Hear me, I can tell by my gifts as an oracle that you are close; new prophesy of divine guidance may yet descend; think and ask; I shall council that the Oracle appear.

"If you will grant me pardon for a moment, m'lady, these options you suggest require some thought. I would like to speak to one of my companions who might be better suited than I to give insight into these choices."

Namaste will pull Caran aside to speak privately.

Spoiler:
"The priestess suggested to me that my options may include either working to end to the pestilence, or working to spread it. On the surface, the choice seems clear - what good soul would possibly work to spread the sickness? But I think again, and does not the forest fire clear away the old and decrepit and make way for a new, stronger forest? Does it not bring new flora and fauna, opening seeds that would otherwise never see the light of day? Though they wrought terrible destruction, they also burn out quickly, and the new life that comes in its wake lingers far longer and spreads far wider than the scourge of the fire itself.

"This particular scourge is driven by demons and the undead. Of the two, demons are obviously the greater immediate threat, but they are also chaotic swill. They lack the ambition of their hellish cousins, and their interests change like the wind. But they have long memories, and they hold grudges. Give them their shallow victories, and they'll be gone the moment something new of interest comes along. Beat them back by sword and spell, and they'll keep coming back, maybe generations from now, but they'll be back. Likely, there are only a few demons who need to be bothered with directly. The true ambition behind this "scourge" is probably in the sorcerors and necromancers who are controlling the undead. And the demons are probably here at their behest to serve as a distraction to keep attention off the puppeteers. Most of the demons are gating through, so they aren't being summoned and abjured, they aren't under the control of the mages. But the demons controlling those gates probably are. Find those, and we find those controlling them. They will be well protected against the enemy, but they might be vulnerable to allies.

"So, perhaps infiltration, siding with the scourge for the time being, in the interest of making our way to its various heads and possibly helping to erode it from within, might be a viable option?"

Vale: for the information on demons in the above spoiler, Knowledge (Planes) (1d20+9=25)

Ok; a little background for you; you have heard in the beginning of your travels that Demons from other planes infest the Chinese, Japanese; and all of the Valenese continent (a huge area the size of Russia and Scandanavia), you have also heard that the Mongols are resisting them and have enlisted the aid of their tribal Devils; this is where you assume your friends who have been captured are being held as they headed that way. Your Knowledge Planes tells you that the common bond here is Yeneaughoo or however that is spelled; demon lord of gnolls and ghouls as they are the prime forces on two different continents; but with your roll you know him to be vanquished; killed by a two heroic paladins who went to that demon's plane and killed him there; he is terminated forever; you also know that the planes can reform a new demons lord if there is enough worship power; but that power would be new; infant or perhaps a raised lesser demon; no information is known; but it is unlikely that this is the case. perhaps if you knew more of the makeup of the forces of evil in the various regions you could peice it together.

Also; you know many tales; many, many tales of a wood elf hero who has been fighting the demons and everything else on the Valenese side of the elven wood; his is a tale of madness and sacrifice; a doom; but he is the Bane all demons; giants; gnolls and the like who try to stand before him; only his faithful friends keep him from total madness. His is a tale seeped in the blood of countless enemies driven to keep killing by his dreadful sword - Blackrazor, this is the Ranger Cael del Copal. He and his friends would know who holds the demon gate; he has attacked it several times; perhaps an elven druid would know how to contact him. (this guy is a household name in any wood elf camp so you would know of him with a 10 due to your knowledge and time with the wood elves who are your homeland neighbors.

Female Kalashtar (Eberon Campaign Setting p. 16) Psion 6 (7 when imp is within one mile)

Caran: "Do you know of the wood elf Cael del Copal? I believe he may have information that would be very helpful to us, whether we choose to try an overt or covert approach. And if we may discover how to find him, then we can concentrate on other questions for the Oracle, as he can tell us who holds the demon gates on the Valenese continent.

"I think that my imprisoned companions, the ones the priestess said may be in a position to help my homeland - and thus, may be in a position to affect other aspects of this scourge - are either in the hands of the demons in that region, or in the hands of the Mongols and the devils they've raised against them. Hmmm, raising evil to fight evil - it doesn't seem rational on the surface, does it?

"Before I choose my question for the Oracle, I am going to make one last attempt to contact my coterie, those who survive. My success or lack thereof will help me to decide how to approach the Oracle."

Vale: Namaste will try to Mindlink with the other coterie members again. It is my understanding that once a connection has been established, it is permanent and does not require another use of the power to establish telepathic communication, so since she has created the link with each coterie member in the past, she should be able to contact each of them in the same attempt, assuming that other factors (such as death, psionic or magical shielding, etc.) don't interfere. I know that a psion can pour power points into it to link with an *unwilling* creature, but the power description doesn't say anything about how expending power points may affect the ability to penetrate psionic or magical shields to reach someone telepathically, so that would be your call. If it is possible to penetrate whatever forces have kept her from being able to reach her coterie companions, especially Treyva, by expending power points, then she will pour as many points into the effort as she needs to, up to her maximum of 40 (or 43, if the katana's boost stacks with the other pp's on the same task). According to the priestess, there are still seven of her companions still alive (four in captivity, one lost, two okay), so she will try to determine which seven those are, and where each of them is located, if possible. The first thing she'll do is just cast mentally about without spending power points, and any that are alive and well and unshielded should be able to answer. Once the results of that castabout are known, then I'll do more focused searches in subsequent posts.

I whisper back to Namaste

Spoiler:
"Sadly, this is very different from the benefits of fire. If this cancer continues to spread it will surely kill the goddess; mother earth. I fear that perhaps the one who offered such a suggestion of spreading this plague is either testing us or is evil intent on destruction." I shake my head sadly, "I worry that the corruption has spread too deep, too far." I pause "As far as Cael is concerned, he is Chaos... perhaps crazy. He is very old, perhaps old enough to even be of the first court. He has lived for decades killing Demons by himself. The lands to get to Cael are extremely dangerous, infested with higher Demons. His friends may be easier to get a hold of, but their sanity is also questionable."

I ask to the person standing as Oracle before the Oracle "I have been struggling to figure out how to phrase what is needed into a question... I thought all along what I needed was guidance on how to proceed... somehow that my description would get me answers."
