In the Mind Link: The Lass is a Nothern Barbarian, from the Hskalla Clan, by her speech. We are at a place she calls Gundri's Last Stand. Her companions have fallen and she promises treasure for aiding her She Trusts me but hates the Drow in our party, I like her already. Have at them Lads, and Lasses Lets kill this vermin.
With my Shield on my back I pull out my Throwing Hammers (They go 60 Feet then return in 1-3 Rounds, I also have Quick Draw) and aim for the foe closest to her.
Round 1:
AC without shield = 25.
My initiative is 19.
Hit #1 (Throwing Hammer):
13 (1d20) + 8 (Base Atk) + 8 (Mod + Weapon Bonus) = 29.
Damage: 5 (1d8) + 8 (Mod + Weapon Bonus) = 13.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hit #2 (Throwing Hammer):
19 (1d20) + 3 (Base Atk) + 8 (Mod + Weapon Bonus) = 30.
Damage: 6 (1d8) + 8 (Mod + Weapon Bonus) = 14.
Init d20=17+7=24
Is the Mind Link still active since we finished what Crow asked of us?
Let me know when I am in striking range. Will try to use the advantage of running on top of the snow to keep my distance from the heavier Gnolls and Ghouls.
Valegrim |
The gnolls are not affected by the snow, but the ghouls are slowed by it as well.
Llvenoc; what are you striking with and what is its range? and you race visibility sighting distance, am thinking your handbow goes farther than you can see. If your usuing any stealth; roll it.
Kosan's hammers hit a gnoll, who yelps; the pack watches the hammers and sniffs the air; they all start to howl excitedly - except for the one injured who yelps in pain - suddenly; there is a lot of howling; some here and some in the distance. The gnolls are closing very fast, from their speed; they were obviously taunting the woman enjoying her terror as she fled.
Kemnebi 'Djal Ibenbast' |
Spellcraft Check: (I guess this is what you meant?)
1d20 + 17 ⇒ (15) + 17 = 32
Kemnebi nods at the dwarf's words. Then his eyes go wide at the gnolls sudden increase in speed. For a moment he looks once more the wide eyed youth you first met.
"Gotta slow 'em down! One Fireball coming up!" Kemnebi howls into the wind.
He traces patterns in the air with his wand, and pulls out a small sticky ball of something black. As he works he cries to his companions.
"Somebody want to tell me why the rabid dogs are working with the undead garbage disposals?!? That is weird. Even for them! Here we go! Duck and cover!"
Will target behind the girl, taking out as many of the bad guys as possible. Hopefully slowing the ghouls and gnolls down.
8d6 fireball 8d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 4, 1, 1, 1, 4, 5) = 25
Valegrim |
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
3 ghouls and 2 gnolls are caught in the blast
----
Kemnebi
Leaving the hill; you pass a warding that shuns people from this place as well as another of arcane nature that will target dwarves and other small folk if they re enter; obviously; this is to guard something within the hill.
Astinos |
Init 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Seeing the distance between himself and the enemy and knowing the difficulty imposed by the snow, Astinos quickly drinks a potion, the Nectar of Helen, feeling the beauty and charisma of legend filling his body. Standing radiant, like a statue of gold, he calls upon one of his gifts from the Goddess of War. The Challenge.
"Come foul dogs! Come you worthless vermin, leave the woman and chile, feast on the flesh of a warrior born if you dare!
Test of Mettle DC 22 (with bonuses) will save or must make all attack actions against Astinos only (ranged or charge)
Valegrim |
Llvenoc; the mind link doesn't seem to be working atm.
The horde doesnt even try to resist Astinos' challenge; still smoking from the fireball; they charge.
Astinos; unless it is an instant potion like heal; nearly all potions take 1d3 rounds normally to take effect; keep than in mind in the future please.
any other actions before 14 to affect the gnolls and ghouls?
the attacks
three gnolls attack with pole arms;
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
two attack with bows;
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
The three slower ghouls, gangly and horrifingly quick and dead, just leap toward Astionos to grab/overbear and begin devouring..
roll to overbear; 3 mansized targets vs one; improved grab and leap attack brings no attack of opp unless there is some counter feat.
overbear roll vs roll; 3 ghouls: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (4) + 18 = 22
Fox of Silver |
Round 1, acting after the ghouls.
The tiny mage weaves a ball of flame out of thin air, dropping it between the ghouls and the gnolls and sending it rolling toward the leading gnoll. As its spongy mass strikes the undead creature, the flames intensify, burning the creature for 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 3) + 3 = 11 points of damage.
Flaming sphere, 180' range, 8 rounds duration
Fox of Silver |
Round 2, acting after the ghouls.
Fox moves the flaming mass to continue its assault on the same ghoul for 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 1) + 3 = 6 points of fire damage. Move action
She turns her attention to the gnolls, firing a salvo of force missiles against the gnoll in melee that appears to be the most wounded in hopes of finishing it off to free up one of the party's warriors. 4d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 1, 1, 3) + 4 = 10
Flaming sphere, 180' range, 7 rounds duration
Magic Missile, four missiles, 180' range
I'm operating under the assumption that Fox's bonus to caster level is still in effect.
Valegrim |
the flaming sphere will interact with the ice and snow and give off a good sized cloud of steam wherever it goes; each round will create a small cloud of 5'diameter steam/mist that increases difficulty of vision and targeting in that area; so round 2 ten feet; round 3 fifteen feet diameter. blindfighting can be used to offset difficulty; a successful perception roll will mean there is a clear shot.
mechanics wise; a normal ghouls has about 45 hps usually; a gnoll about 35; just so you have an idea as these are fairly common creatures you would know a bit about what it takes to kill them.
Valegrim |
does it get a reflex or other save?
Round 2, acting after the ghouls.
Fox moves the flaming mass to continue its assault on the same ghoul for 2d6 + 3 points of fire damage. Move action
She turns her attention to the gnolls, firing a salvo of force missiles against the gnoll in melee that appears to be the most wounded in hopes of finishing it off to free up one of the party's warriors. 4d4 + 4
Flaming sphere, 180' range, 7 rounds duration
Magic Missile, four missiles, 180' range
I'm operating under the assumption that Fox's bonus to caster level is still in effect.
Valegrim |
One bit of clarification Fox on which targets are involved.
There are three ghouls trying to jump on Astinos and overbear him; likely the gods of dice rolling are with him as I got a 4 so that is likely to fail, but there are also 3 gnolls in the second rank so to speak poking him with pole arms and spreading to flank, I am guessing Kosan and Durr will probably join the melee in that fight. There are two gnoll archers about 30ft away who stopped at shot at Astinos as the others charged on; there are 2 more ghouls and 3 gnolls about 60 yards away and closing in on the party in a round or two.
There is a wet spot of water turning ot ice where the two gnoll archers are as they and some of the ones in melee got hit by the fireball.
The temperature outside right now is just above freezing; maybe 35 degrees.
so where is the flaming sphere heading?
Fox of Silver |
Round 1: Wow, I was so far off on my image of the targets... Two gnoll archers about 30' away shooting at Astinos; the closest (to me) gets the flaming sphere.
Round 2: Same gnoll gets the flaming sphere if he's still standing; otherwise, target his compadre. If they both fall before my turn comes up, the flaming sphere will come back to the melee and hit the closest (to me) polearm-bearing gnoll.
Round 2: Magic missile will target Astinos' last target if he's still standing. Otherwise, the nearest (to me) ghoul facing Astinos gets the missiles.
Thanks for the clarification, hope I've answered your questions.
Kemnebi 'Djal Ibenbast' |
Ack! Yes, thanks for the clarification. I thought the gnolls were up front with the ghouls! SInce I think that our (fairly) intelligent mage would know that COlor spray won't affect undead,
Kemnebi steps back and weaves a pattern of his own. He sends forth his own flurry of force missiles screeching into his own target,...
4 mag missiles, all targeted on one of the ones in the second rank with pole arms spreading to flank Astinos,
4d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 3, 3, 4) + 4 = 15
Kosan Silveraxe |
Note: This action is after Astinious Posts and when My Initiative is due at 19.
OK Mind Link Go Poof - So Out Loud: Aw thank Ye Dumation finally somethin ta bury me axe inta.
Utilizing feat "Quick Draw" I draw my Axe/Hammer and attack the Ghouls on Astinious using the Axe side. Shield still on my Back.
Round 2:
AC without shield = 25.
My initiative is 19.
Hit #1 (Axe):
17 (1d20) + 8 (Base Atk) + 9 (Mod + Weapon Bonus) + 2 (Bane vs Ch Evil) + 2 (Kosan and Foe are touching the Earth) = 38.
Damage: 5 (1d8) + 9 (Mod + Weapon Bonus) + 9 (Bane vs Ch Evil 2d6 Dam) + 2 (Kosan and Foe are touching the Earth) = 25.
Hit #2 (Axe):
15 (1d20) + 3 (Base Atk) + 9 (Mod + Weapon Bonus) + 2 (Bane vs Ch Evil) + 2 (Kosan and Foe are touching the Earth) = 31.
Damage: 7 (1d8) + 9 (Mod + Weapon Bonus) + 10 (Bane vs Ch Evil 2d6 Dam) + 2 (Kosan and Foe are touching the Earth) = 28.
Valegrim |
23; lol vs 22; what a dice roller; Astinos by the grace of his blessings stays on his feet, that or his plate legs and footwear are frozen to the ground; lol a 5 vs a 3.
Astinos gets to attack normally having won the overbear;
1 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (2) + 22 = 24
2 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (20) + 17 = 37
Valegrim |
ok; looks like the bad guys are having a bad day; after being blown burn to a crips by Kemnebi; Kosan and Astinos finish off three ghouls and a gnoll; a big ball of fire and steam are obscuring and mabye burning a gnoll archer from Fox; magic missles from Kemnebi race in a finish another gnoll with a polearm on Astinos.
LLvenoc; waiting for your attachs against either a fresh gnoll archer or Astinos last gnoll with a polearm which is wounded from the fireball.
