Spot roll: 13 (9+4). Just failed.
Knowledge (Nobility): 16 (8+8). Just made, if the failed spot check doesn't invalidate.
PS - sorry it took so long to respond. I just got back from a business trip.
Valegrim |
Spot in this case is how apparent and how much you notice any obvious signs of nobility and station. Knowledge gives you information on interpretting those signs and also from clues of bearing, culture, breeding, speach patterns, tone and the like. So as Drow culture is outside of your area of knowledge you are drawing on what might be similiarities to other elves you may know.
remember; you can always take a 10 in non combat, non stresfull environments; if you like; you may change your roll to a 10 and use that result. No worries about not posting sooner; I dont post as often end of week but do quite a bit Sun and beginning of week due to my schedule.
so; like the player said; you do recognise him as a Drow noble, but also know that Drow are matriarchal.

Assuming the Captain agrees with me I head to my pallet and write down the directions to the Oracle in my journal as well as a synopsis of the nights through the days events.
After finishing with that I will sharpen all of my daggers and clean and polish my armor. I also take a sponge bath and get into fresh cloths. The clothes that got damaged I cut around the damaged area to make sure none of the substance will linger in the cloth and then I store the now ragged shirt in the portable hole separate from the backpack. I keep the pants as a spare in it though.
When I am done with all of that if its not to late Ill head up on deck with the new crossbow and take some target practice with it and see what other combinations of the buttons changes the way the weapon fires or hits its targets. I do this until it gets to late to see very well. I then turn in for the night so I can get up early in the morning.

Well, nobody is really on deck; the ship is cleared; they are awaiting additional lumber to help right the ship and lots of sailors are digging and clearing a path back to the ocean; looks like they are going to probably roll the ship on logs back toward the water; big project.
Like I said; there is lots and lots of daylight; many hours till it even gets dusk; are you guys really gonna just sit around?
Namaste |
That'll work. If I take 10 on the rolls, they will adjust to 14 and 18, respectively.
To the drow I say, "Your song speaks to me, m'lord. I, too, am separated from those whom I love. Indeed, Adar, the very land of my youth, is barred to me - even through the Planes, the path is lost, and I know not why. Mayhap, my separation is not as final as death, but in my heart it seems so. Alas, I do not know if my father Lord Kondahar, or my mother the Lady Keleshai." She seems to lose herself in a moment of reverie. "My brother Mohinder, he's a rascal, and being the son of a noble has done little to curb his torments of his younger sisters. They're twins, you know, Krestina and Preska, barely out of childhood even now. But they are good-hearted, all of them, and their fates are unknown to me!" As tears of grief well up in her eyes, she seems to remember that it was your reverie she disturbed. "I'm sorry, I don't mean to ramble on so. If you would allow me to listen, I might find my own solace in your song of lament."
The woman you are speaking to is dressed in black silk swaths, similar in fashion to the nomads and dervishes of the deserts, but impecably fine and clean. She is of extraordinary beauty, almost inhuman, with the dusky skin and black hair that is common of the desert tribes. If Valegrim wants to give you a check (perhaps Spot and Knowledge (Planes, Nobility or Local), you might notice some of the more subtle features described under the appearance tab in her profile, and assume knowledge of some of the racial details in that profile.

I speak slowly. " I understand your words, and the significence of your hurt expressed to me. If sharing your despair with mine gives you solace then so be it. Know the ignorance of your familys fate may well be a blessing. For all ways to home are now lost to those that devour. So sit beside me if you wish. Rejoice in sharing your despair with mine." I again pick up the Guquin and play.
16+9=25 for perform.
"May I ask now who sits beside me, and shares her tears with my own?"

Pleasure to meet you Namaste, First Daughter. May your House stay strong. Those that devour is the most accurate name I can give you in this tongue. Know them not by name, but by what they do. Devourer's of Flesh, of Spirit, of Mind. This is how you know thy enemy. You may call me Llvenoc.

ok; as you went in a Southern Directions into the lands of India and China; your friend went in a Northern direction into the lands of the elven forest and the steps of the Mongols; you had contacted your freind for a few months as she told stories of the Mongols and various tribes and some great war brewing farther north; but few details; your friend had no mind for military matters, but was following leads of powerful magic users and sages farther to the North in some great cities north of mongols in the lands of the Rusk (R oo sk; hard k) your friend reported a granted interview with a mage named; Wizard Lord Kul Strovich Propenska; that was a week ago; for the last few nights you get nothing but psychic static; alive; but blocked somehow like your friend is sheilded at the source.

I'll try not to worry too much about my friend for the moment. If she's in audience with a highly positioned wizard, I suppose it wouldn't be unusual for them to take strides to insure they are safe from prying eyes, ears and minds.
I turn back to the drow.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Llvenoc. I've heard tale of your kind, but never had the auspicious pleasure to meet a drow. I must confess, from the tales I'd heard, you're not at all what I would have expected. But let us not dwell on stereotypes and the injustices they too often wrought. These devourers you speak of, do you believe they are responsible for some of these odd occurences of late?"
Llvenoc |
Yes. The Devourers are responsible for all things that are ill. Consider yourself lucky to have made it to this sanctuary. This Temple of the Sun. For it is a Bastion against those that hunt in the dark and the night. Yes Namaste, very lucky indeed. For in this land we are the hunted. They Devour our Gods, our Nations, our Family. But those of us that still live...fight. Every last breathe we have we will fight.

Well; the captain is not letting anyone on the ship; it needs massive repairs; guys are hammering and sawing; a party out searching for wood; about 4 guys standing guard; the largest majority is digging the ship out; the ditch is a v shape curiously, by their talk; shifts are going to work through the night though it is only late afternoon atm.

The first mate takes you to your stuff; you can see the ship has been completely emptied and the stuff under guard; apparently to make the ship lighter so they can fix it and roll it back over.
you can easily reclaim your stuff; and they will give you few days provisions if you need them.
The Mate says; well I talked to the navigator; we are about 120 miles south and 60 miles west of our destination to land at a real port. thought you might be interested as you could probably walk it faster than we can get this ship fixed and back out to sea; up to you though.

Llvenoc |
These Devourers are many things. Some are divergent groups, and worshippers. Some are whole races, and nations. As I said. Know them for what they represent. They devour the Flesh like these Ghul's. Others devour the Mind, and the Spirit. Any and all the combination of the three. They devour your Will, your Beliefs, Faith. If they could Devour the Sun, and the Essence of Good itself they would.
Know that I see the Sun itself as a Banner against these Devourers. So by design or by fate I am here at this Temple of the Sun. It is a rally point for those who wish to battle against these forces.

Thank you First mate for the provisions and the directions. I then turn to Caran and say well looks like we can leave shortly. I just want to change my clothing and take some notes. I then go behind the crates and quickly change making sure I cut off the cloth around the damaged part of the shirt and leave it there and place the rest of the clothing back in the bag in the portable hole with the rest of my stuff and the provisions. I also take the time to pull out my journal and note the directions to the Oracle and where the port is from here. To help with the relationship between the 3 places I draw a VERY crude map.

you encounter no wandering monsters; it takes about an hour and half to get to the oracle; the directions are good
near the entrance to the path you see three figures; a dark elf; a strange looking maiden; perhaps elf; and a greek warrior youth; they seem deep in conversation; but aware of you.
further in you see many more greek warriors; and a strangley places tree in the middle of a side path on the other side of the tiny encampment; you also see a further in off to the left; a group of Centaurs and Fauns in a heated but good natured arguement.
I wait the few minutes for Thoronhen to prepare for the trip making sure my and Eruanna's bags are secured and ready for travel. To Gaius and any others with me waiting for Thoronhen to be ready I say "Hopefully this trip will be quick and safe to the Oracle."

this is all run by Greek Clergy; you have no direct knowlege and no knowledge of their protocol; you do see several clergy about the glade tending to various tasks; there are two ceremonial guards by the small path where the tree is in the middle of the path; strangly; you notice that the path goes right under the tree; like the path has been there but this ancient tree is very recently on the path; wierd.

"Though my lands exist on this plane, all known routes of access have been cut off. My people have great mental prowess and are naturally adept at bending reality to the whims of the mind, as it were. We often maintain contact with each other with practiced use of the same abilities, but over the past several months, the only ones of my people with whom I've been able to share such contact are those few of us who are away from our home. I seek to find out what has done this and how it may be undone. That is why I have come to this Oracle. But beyond that, if these wars and skirmishes threaten the whole of the land, then they threaten even the peace of my people, and I would learn what I may of the world beyond the walls of Adar, its peoples and politics, that we might forge necessary alliances when we must.
To that end, perhaps we can share tales of our own peoples while we wait? I am Namaste, of the Kalashtar, first daughter of Kondahar, Lord of the Merchant House of Lusk." "

I look at the young Greek Nobleman. I came here by a guided hand. Fate as it were. I was with a group of thirty strong when we quested to find the surface world. I am ashamed to say we were routed from our homes. These Ghul's have vast numbers. They gather in very dark places. They are allied with many of the undead that plague this land as well. So it came to pass that through attrition only a few of us from my group made it to your surface world. No longer being feasted upon by the Ghul's but by other undead beasts. Your land was still dominated by darkness. We constantly fought with no hope of safe haven. Then there were just three of us. Myself and two women from my house. I was badly wounded and on my knee's. I couldn't protect them anymore. The priestess tried to deal, and make offerings to these undead to spare our lives. She was devoured. The other is my Cousin. She to called out asking for anyone who would champion against these horrors. There was a flash of Sunlight! The Sun! First time I ever saw such a thing! My eyes burned and bleed. I heard the Undead scream, and evaporate with the daylight. My Cousin screamed out crys of glee, and praises to the sun. I was blinded. I could not see. From my wounds I could not stand. I heard my Cousin run off praising the sun, and shouting blashemies against the followers, and those of the Devourers. She found there weakness. Her voice faded off in the distance and she punished the weaker ones that fled. I tried to stumble after her. But alas I was lost and blind. I felt the Sun cool, and knew night was approaching. I awaited my death and played. I knew the horrors would return. Instead I heard a womans voice, and a soft hand. I was lead here. All my wounds were healed except my eyes. That was to heal naturally over a long time. So when my eye sight returned I was asked to stay here as a guest and play. Play and take solace for there would be a time for me to act. So I play and wait for the one who healed me to call for me.

Well the only officious people here seem to be those two guards. Ill go ask them what the rules are around here and if there is even a waiting list at all. The Oracle probably knows we are here and why. All I know is that the elf over there might be a threat so keep an eye on him. I look the dark elf over to see any weapons on or concealed about his body. I also look for any distinctive markings of organizations that i know of. Spot 29=18+(11=8 ranks + 3 stats)

The Guard tells you; you may not violate the peace here for any reason lest yea be struck down by the great sun god who guards this area; and peace is the law; if yea seek to ask of the Oracle, then when she is ready; she will call upon yea; you have but to wait or leave.

I know she is still alive Namaste. More of a feeling really. We have always known the well being of the other. As far as knowledge of her whereabouts. I know not this surface world. So everything is foreign to me. I would not know where to begin. I leave it to fate if me and my cousin will have a joyous reunion. As long as we both fight the same enemys then we will always be close to each other in spirit.
I hope we both answered your question fairly Noble Sir. Are there any other questions you wish to ask of me, or Lady Namaste? Or would you be content on the breaking of bread, and the sharing of wine while the Sun still has dominance in the sky? May I ask your name Noble Sir? Mine is Llvenoc.

I acknowledge the elven newcomers (and the Greek, though he seems predisposed with our Greek companion) with a nod and a friendly smile. Though I am only becoming familiar with the politics of the elves abroad, I am familiar with elven druids and rangers from my youth, and remember them to be often isolated from the politics of their society, so these, at least, bear a familiar element. I call out to them in [heavily accented] Elven: "Well met, and good day to you! You are keepers of the forests, no?"

Heading back I tell Caran "Well it looks like the Oracle will see us when the time is right". to Namaste "Well I am not much a keeper of the forest like Caran here. I am more at home in the city then the forest. My name is ThorenHen what my be yours m'lady and that of your companion."
