Is there any interest in another pbp game; I could run a group or two in my homebrew; that would probably be easiest for me, but if there is interest after I get the hang of gming online; I can do lot of other type games; sci fi; supers; whatever.

I have been running my homebrew for nearly 30 years; I have two current group in real life running through the game; some have been playing since about 1980; If we do this thing; several of my players will pop in and encounter the group and you will meet thier characters unless your on opposing sides.

Bit about my game to follow; will write it and post it soon; basically I run the old dieties and demigods book in 3.5; meaning my world is set up in regions; each region has a pantheon that controls that region; so if your in the Roman/Greek area and you move to the Viking/Finish area; and your a cleric of Posidon; well; Atto and Uko are his allies and you may use your powers at their fullest there but these dieties might intervene as they desire; also; on that note; Only one Greek cleric can ride a horse; ie Posidon's; also; there clerics tend to be Pantheonistic; will explain more as needed; you who play a cleric can choose a Diety or a Pantheon as appropriate.

Ok; a bit about the rules; we have a few home rules; will get into those before we play; I am much more into fun and story then the rules dont allow or say this; there are some things that just dont work well and we handle them our own way and have a few conventions.

I do individual initiative
I max all hit points for all levels
Play powerful characters; most of the meak are already dead. This world is at war; enemies about; but this does not in any way mean that combat is the main focus; somebody will need to play a guy who can talk and arbitrate with other npc's.
I give extra stuff depending on what region of the world your character comes from and give inheritance to players based on pre starting game life based on rolls.
There are many npcs from many stories from book walking around my world and areas from everywhere; I can explain how and why of you desire; so just about anything is possible.

My idea of game balance is probably different from yours; I have no problem with people in a party being different levels.

I give individual exps based on my judgement; I have a formula and I use it; I am not sure how this will translate online; so it might need adjustment. Alignment is a fairly large part of this and I graph alignemnts; I will explain this more if there is game interest; is pretty simple and straightforward and it has worked well for years.

you as players need to figure out when to fight; when to talk; when to run;

My game is very alignment based; CE are the bad guys and basically any C in an alignment can be deadly in some areas; the world is becoming aligned very law verses chaos; probably a bit more than good vs evil.

Basic premise; the Old Ones are returning; their allies have rallied; choas abounds; they are still asleep; but for how long; can you stop their return; can you save the world and keep them asleep; the elders of all races warn that it is the dreams and desires of mortal races that feed their awakening...there are prophesies; there are heroes both dead and living and some living dead :) Walk the planes; walk the Underdark; walk the realms of creatures strange and magical; live, learn and make a difference; cut out your own kingdom or join a powerful alliance; play a good; play evil; choose the side of law or chaos or try to stand in the middle and twart both sides :)

Play; Valgrymr's Homebrew; coming soon hehe

A bit more; I own almost every book; so any book I have or can get ahold of is permitted; magic; psionics; all good; am not race picky; play what you want, but you have to deal with the problems; you play a gnoll well; sure that is cool, but some guys are just going to kill you on sight meaning prejudice is alive and well; rampade even; better have a reason or some friends to vouch for you or something; nearly anything is workable; will work with you as nearly every race and thing is involved and many are on both sides of this war.

Wow, a truly epic world. I remember stats for the Finnish heroes in the first edition Legends and Lore.

Very interested, btw. :D

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

roll characters; four dice; reroll ones; take best three; roll a set of six for characteristics; roll another set; take best of two; would look like this:

12 13,17,17,16,14
17,10,18,15,12,16
_________________

17,13,18,17,16,16 for stats;

apply where you want; adjust by race. if you want a really high score for one and a really low score for some role playing thing; is fine; I dont care to much about character creation stuff; it all works out; can adjust my game to fit without any problem; people tend to get a lot of 12-15 rolls and a few higher which is cool. Stats are really mutable as things change your character abilities up and down from time to time in the story if such things are pursued.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

ok; a bit about npcs; most of the npc you will meet in my game will have a great deal of depth; ie; if you meet Sir John Gray of Whitecastle Rock; well, he was once a player in my game; I know his character; his ambitions; his desires his goals; his family, his friends and have his character sheet; I have 5 big notebooks of guys who were characters once running around in my world working on stuff; good guys; bad guys; neutral guys; then I have a bunch of npc supporting staff I made up; these are only a bit more shallow as they have been developed as people have interacted with them; so; if you join a theives guild for example; well some rogues will have been npc; and others were once characters.

Valegrim, you fine with Book of the Nine Swords? I'm thinking of making a crusader.

Hey my wife and I would be interested in joining your game.
I was also looking a maybe a Swordsage if that's OK.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

I do not have this book; but is this designed after Fred Saberhagens book of nine swords; like townsaver; sightblinder and what not; those swords exist in my game.

will ask around if anyone has the book.

I dont know that class off the top of my head; but doubt its a problem; will post a magic thing later.

it would be helpful if you guys would say what book these classes come from as there are so many books.

Swordsage and Crusader are both out of Book of Nine Swords.
If you're allowing this book, I'll probably back out. It's the most broken, IMO, of just about anything Wizards ever put out.

Yeah sorry, the Swordsage in in Book of Nine Swords but if you don't have it I am willing to play anything.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

ok; we need to pick a starting area for the characters so there are some choices that players will need to make; i could just stick you guys somewhere, but there is so much going on that it is totally ok for you guys to hash it out to the flavor you want to play.

Eastern Continent; occupied territory; this is the land of the vikings/finns/melnibonieans/chinese and the japanese island is right off the coast; the captial of the bad guys is on this continent in a giant port city. there is a great desert in the center that is big and red and very much like the world of Dune or Arakis if you will; nobody really goes there

the bad guys are mostly hordes of gnolls; giants; trolls; and demons; there is an open demon gate to some unknown plane of the abyss; those arrayed against them are dwarves; wild elfs, some wood elfs; half elfs and roving bands of barbarians; all organized resistance is mostly crushed except the for dwarves who are holding out; they are backed by a new breed of kobold and orcs that follow a new diety and exhibit shadow powers; believe me; the dwarves dont like it;but they are fighting a bitter war in the underdark and the underdark here is rampade with war in this region. Here demons abound also and life is near worthless; many adventuring parties come here and attempt raids of the capital for magic items as well as killing bad guys for loot.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

the Central continent; a mostly liberated land as a new emperor has been crowned in the north and has enough mages and warriors to hold power; a here an ancient elf has returned to once again restore things to battle the coming evils; they a have soldiers and scouts and adventuring parties in every continent; they are probably the wealthiest and strongest and has over the last two years been the place were everyone for anywhere seems to take refuge.

the South and central region is classical Greece/Rome and is newly liberated, but order is only now being restored and the great kingdoms of undead are not leaving without a fight. There is not yet a single leader in this area; but several popular princes and heroes that mostly work together but their task of pacifing the region is vast; the main forces of this region have moved and are sailing to the southern continent to battle an even more insidious enemy; the dreaded return of the Elves ancient enemy; the Ophidians.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

the west:
in the north is the elflands and the high elf capital which no known human has ever ventured.; little or nothing is known about the area and elves are not talking; to add even more mystery; bout five years ago; every high elf from every continent got up and moved back to this place; then about 5 months ago; the elves arrayed in a giant army and swept south moving with magical energy and a horricly horrible hunt killing every human or mortal they could find; how many you ask; well; all of them seems to be the answer.

Directly south of the elfland is an area much like Crusades with hospitaliers and paladins and armies of humans and steel; the Holy Lands; the elves bypassed this region in the million elf march; no one knows why; the common anwer is; we have faith and are protected; we hold ancient alliances and the like. The armies of this region have been in a campaign agaisnt a horde of bad guys; see North post; same bad guys; this vast horde had been laying waste to the north region of the central continent and beseiging the elflands for a decade; the holy lands have fought for the last decade to cleanse this army; one the new western emperor arrived with his forces; this horde was mostly decimated; though they are still being chased and sought by various forces.

to the south of them and to the further west are the babylonians and sirians and sumerians commonly called Persia; they have just ended a bitter civil war and the new Caliph is restoring peace and prosperity
further south are the Eygpytians; untouched by any war or strife; they have had an economic boom; generally the happiest place in world safe in there littl corner. Neither did the elves touch Egypt; word is they met with the forces of the wood elf king in the southern continent, but more on that later.

to the west of the elves are various strong free states allies of each other; sometime allies of the dwarves, elves and the Holy Cities

west of them are an ancient dwarf homeland; no word from there for decades; since beginning of the Persian civil war; the Caliph seeks word....
north of them are lawless barbarians and others who dont want to be found.
west of them is the celtic/arthuraian plains; forests and islands where some darkness has been growing.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

the Southern continent; argueably the continent most at war; hard toss up between the east and the south; different enemies; the South is much worse; much deadlier, but the rewards and the glory to be found here is without measure; many vast armies are here about to meet in a clash that will shake if not destroy the world.

the host of the Egyptian armies has landed here to support their greek/roman allies and safegaurd the well of life; well of life you say; yes it should be capitalized, the well of life has been a haven for refugies from greece and rome for nearly two decades and some say the lord of wine rules here; and a vast population explosion has happened; but right up against this is where the every elf march has come; thus the elfs came here. To kill all the humans you ask; well; yes; but the Egyptians are not having any of that; and Pharoah; a demigod brought his forces and allied them to the greek militia backed by every dwarf and halfling in the region and not a small number of gnomes. Still, it was pretty obvious that the elves would wipe them all from the area - a jungle bythe way - until the western emperor appeared and said he was now emperor of the world and eeryone would kneel to him; He has the great orb of elvenkind; a vast artifact of the last elven emperor floating around is head; so no body move; for three months nobody breathed; and the western emperor for three months amplified by the orb; told everyone of the snakemens return and how he; the last of the elven emperors and the only living person who lived through the wars with the elves ancient enemy were going to be here soon and kill every mammal on the planet; to back his claim the elven dieties who moved with the elven host summone the missing Corellian; Corellian stated that the Western Emperor was the true last emperor and emperor still and every elf would kneel to him; thus did the present dwarven dieties summon the SoulForger; who with a breath upon the earth did open the vast halls of his kingdom and there came forth the veteran dwarven legions; near a million; and this did they swear to uphold their ancient vows to the last emperor agaisnt the bane of the snakemen. But alas; Dumathion arrived with his last priest; and the Unspeaking one wept; the last high priest; geared to everyones amazement by armor created soley for him by Vulan himself; did tell how he alone was the last of the Priests of Dumation; and thier task to seal and gaurd the prison of the Old Ones had failed; it is the old ones who move the snakes to battle; thus the war for existance is now at hand; even now in the watery depths near Arthuria is the Deep Ones moving and the battle for the third to last seal is being fought; the high priest and Dumathion faded away; silence abounded. Then did Frey and Uller arrive from the sea; they walked up from the Egyptian side and Frey, Corellian and the Soulforger did raise their weapons and call forth Thoth; and thus reform the Great Alliance against the Old Ones; then did Frey speak; that from the vast reaches did he see a happening; in the Cold North of the East did arrive a Judge; a vast being to judge the world; for the ancient unknown dieties will not allow the Old Ones a foothold in the Megaverse; thus is the pronoucement; save this world or be wiped from existance; but there is hope; for in the North; somewhere came a messanger that Donblas the Justice bringer has come to Fight; he that great one has come to battle the Old Ones and he has sent a prophet; and there he is; the Frey points to a strange sight; that anyone from the South would recognise; in the middle of the jungle is a great pryamid of ice where lives a lonely but very hair and powerful Egyptian Dwarf.... who shouted "I tried to tell you guys for years; now call me crazy; then he went back into that ice pryamid.

ok; other stuff in the South; well; the Dinosaurs are on a high mesa; veryone has and interest in not letting the snakement get up there to enslave them

Some random details of superghouls making a kingdom somewhere

anyway; this as a vast continent; kinda like africa; lot of unknown regions with jungles and plains. oh; and lots and lots of snakemen.

Sovereign Court

I'm thinking central continent. I'm not sure if level 3-5 characters can hang anywhere else for very long w/o getting turned from living to dead.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

Well; as a general rule I dont allow books I dont have for obvious reasons; dont worry about what you think is broken or not broken; it just doesnt mean a thing until you play in and experience the world; I make sure everything runs along smoothly and everyone feels special; put your heart and effort into your character and you will be rewarded; I put out lots of rp threads for people to jump on or not as their choice; mechanics of this class or that class are not that big a deal; you will each have times where you will have to make moral choices and things will hinge upon it; the idea of this game is to have fun and play out a story in epic fashion; try to leave your predjudice at home; it just wont serve you well; leave the game mechanincs and that stuff to me; I can handle it; really truly.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

nah; dont worry about that; there are lots of encounters on each continent of any level type; everything from small bands of goblin raids to somebody stealing cows; one problem that some pcs could probably handle is the number of army deserters who are setting up their own raiding bands; stuff like that; lots of skellies and zombies and guys running scams from town to town; kidnappings; and the like; dont worry about stuff; just try to pick a setting that sounds like most people want to be involved; Once I get peoples characters, I will start giving background stuff you know; things you have heard; will also give everyone a general list of heroes and villians they have heard of as well as more local heroes not everyone will have heard of; stuff like that.

the central continent is pretty good though; not many groups have been there lately to check on things so rumors tend to get stale; you could say start at the well of life and sail there for many reasons; everything from escorting a returning noble to gathering info; to delivering a message to a prince about the south; all kinds of stuff. the pc's over the years have several of the movers and shaker groups in communications of various kinds and a sorta network; they were lawful after all; so lots of things like this exist and communication is power; getting a comunique through rough territory is very heroic.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

I have asked some of my players to stop in and read the thread as there characters might stop by now and again; give info; stuff like that.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

Ok; I have talked to some of my buds and one has this book; he says it is like animae style playing and that is not what I am after; so, no Book of nine swords; it would take way more time for me to read and redo for my game then I am prepared for; am thinking that playing from that book would be appropriate for a rollplaying on a different plane or in one of the dreams of the Old Ones.

Keep in mind that there is a very developed Underdark; and the Drow have some very strong holds in the Southern Continent Far from the Might of the traditional two ancient eleven lands, but not far from the wood elves. Many underdark races or ok as several are allied with the dwarves; hehe and yes; in the Southern Continent they are Southern boys; with southern drawls hehe; the whole place is rather Daniel boon

Well, it is pretty simple; you decide you want to play; read a bit of what I wrote up above; make up a character; go to your Paizo avatar account and make an alias with the name of the character; and enter his stats and stuff; will post one of my playing alliases for you to look at so you see what I mean. Then once we get enough players, you guys act like a team; I act like a gm; and we do this thing :)

Sounds good; am not in a hurry; thought I would post info here and answer questions for a while

Once I start getting/ie seeing character sheets we can start on background stuff; whoever gets me one first will be a bit of an example to others.

there are several; I would go about it this way; first pick a region; viking; celt, Indian; all have bow users
or; pick a race; like elf; Corellian is longbow or long sword for example

One thing I had not put out yet that I probably should have is that many of the lesser dieties have been killed; the greater diety takes their positions for the interim.

I am leaning to start you guys adventuring at the Well of Life which is a huge encampments of many races and cultures; there exists there a prior to the coming of the elves and dwarves and Egyptians and the Central Emperor and his crew both a quiet little villiage of off to the west a bit where some humans live in peace with some lizardmen; and have for eons; south of there is a greek outpost and fort where there is a Greeko/Roman Commander who runs an information network; he sends groups to learn stuff; recover stuff; take out small threats; check rumors for comfirmation; he is fairly well connected and would be a good starting spot. From this spot you would have access to just about every continent and can get the most rumours and most current news; right at this moment; this is the heart of what is going on; ie a convergence. I think it would be a great place to start with lots of choices and threads for the group and individuals to follow; lots of movers and shakers here and you could follow them to anywhere in the world as there are lots of people and creatures here to help.

having another is ok; there is enough specialization that it will be no problem.

am looking for 6-8 players more or less; just dont want the game to move to slowly; and want you guys to be able to take on a few running challenges without having to nurse to many wounds by days of rest.

Here's my character. I have him built at 5th, but he's easy enough to backward engineer if I need to. I'm planning on PRCing him into a Kensai (Complete Warrior) starting at level 7. His equipment is only roughly finished. Level 5 is 9000gp value of eq, but scarcity of magic items means I didn't know what to do about all the extra gold. I'm still looking for a better avatar, but non-bald oriental avatars are pretty much nonexistent.
By the time I finished setting his profile, invisible castle (where I did his stat rolls) went down. Hopefully it'll be back up soon. Twelve rolls of 4d6, re-rolling 1s gives a crazy attribute set, but what with evil running roughshod over the whole continent, I guess we need whatever we can get.

Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 45HD

ok; Balfic help out with this one;

Some of my homerules:

The game says -10 hps and your dead; I dont play that way; you can go negative your con score; so you have an 8 you can go to -8; you have an 18; then -18.

about magic items; you can get exps for figuring out what a magic item does; each item is worth so many points; use a spell or ask someone what it does; you dont get the exps. This isnt a big deal to some people; but some like to figure it out like a riddle.

the color a magic item glows gives a warning about its power level; more on this to mages and clerics later. Blue is the weakest and would be a +1 sword or sword with a minor ability for example. Relics and Artifacts do not follow this rule.

The Legend of Mitsuryuu (part 1)

Spoiler:

Near the village of Takimora, about a half-day’s walk from the village, to be exact, there is a tea-house called “The Teahouse of the Dancing Salamander.”
Now this teahouse, back when the father of the current owner was still alive, used to be a beautiful place, with a magnificent garden, polished wood everywhere, and the finest tea in all the land (or so it was said.) All of this was due to the owner, who was a pious man, and a master of Feng Shui.
Alas for all travelers, he died, and his son, an unimpressive specimen, inherited the Teahouse.
In a few short years, the wood lost some of its luster, the tea was just not as good, and the garden fell into ruin.
That garden is where my tale truly begins.
It happened that, a little over a year ago, there came to the Teahouse of the Dancing Salamander a ronin warrior of quiet demeanor and grim mien. He spoke little to the other travelers, took tea and food, and was politely obvious in his desire to be alone.
He seemed to be recovering from an injury, but asked for no help, and invited no offer.
He spent some days in the ruin of the garden, although no one could say why, as it had little to recommend it since the death of its master.
Still, he spent most of his time there, either sitting quietly or practicing with his Bokken. As there were no other warriors currently staying there, there was no one to say if he was good or not. In truth, who would say such a thing to a ronin of quiet demeanor and grim mien?
Now, as is often the case in out-of-the-way teahouses, there was a group of five ruffians who visited the Dancing Salamander from time to time, made a nuisance of themselves, roughly handled the serving girls, ate and drank too much and then left without paying, and those ruffians happened to visit while this ronin, who had, in a singular act of impoliteness, not given his name to anyone, was in residence.
The ruffians did what they always did. They made a nuisance of themselves. They ate and drank too much. And they roughly handled the serving girl. But they didn’t leave. They stayed, and became more and more of a nuisance, and ate so much and drank so much that they began to handle the serving girl (who was the owner’s daughter) too roughly.
The owner, having no hope of a messenger reaching the local magistrate before something unfortunate happened in his teahouse, went into the garden of his father, and knelt, hoping that the ronin of quiet demeanor and grim mien might allow him conversation.
“This was once a magnificent garden,” commented the ronin, with an edge of accusation in his voice, “but now it is over-run by weeds, and the stream has jumped its bed.”
He pointed to a place where a tree had fallen, blocking the stream’s natural path and causing it to take a new course.
The owner, having no skill at gardening, did not see much difference between the two paths and could not tell what of the plants in the garden were weeds and what were not, and really, didn’t care all that much, what with ruffians in the main room assaulting his daughter, but he didn’t think saying any of that was quite right in this circumstance, and so instead, said, “Yes, indeed. It is a sorry thing now. Alas, that my father died and left me none of his skill with Feng Shui. It is a tragedy.”
Then he said no more, hoping that the ronin would wonder why he was there.
After a time, while the owner worried about what might be happening to his daughter in the main room, the ronin said, “You have come out here for a reason, man. Spit it out. It sounds as if you have things to attend to inside.”
“Master,” the owner replied, “There are bad men in my teahouse. They eat too much, drink too much, and are a great nuisance. And… they are roughly handling my daughter. Could you perhaps, if it is not too much trouble, make them leave? I cannot pay much, but you will always be welcome at my teahouse and will never pay for another cup of tea or a bowl of noodles here.” (This last, he said with little unhappiness, for the ronin was quite temperate in his eating and drinking.)
“In addition,” the ronin replied, and the owner cringed, fearing some depraved request (having seen the habits of more than one samurai), “You will let me repair your father’s garden, and you will find someone to maintain it after I leave.”
The owner was somewhat taken aback by the bizarre request, but a new outburst of raucous laughter from inside drove all other thoughts from his mind. “As you wish, Master,” he replied quickly, “Only help my daughter.”
The ronin stood, took up his Bokken, and stepped into the teahouse.
The ruffians were passing the girl from hand to hand, kissing and fondling her. It seemed that nothing more untoward had yet occurred.
“Leave.” stated the ronin bleakly. “Leave, or I will kill you all.”
The leader of the ruffians, a wild and dirty fellow named Taku, replied, “Perhaps it is you who will die.” He gestured to one of his followers, who stood quickly, grasping his iron kiseru with some skill.
The ronin said not another word, and before Taku could say anything else, or his man could even move, thrust his Bokken into the throat of the standing ruffian, who dropped his pipe and began choking on his crushed voice box.
The rest of the ruffians, knowing that to flee such a challenge would lose them all respect, leapt to their feet, and charged to attack.
The ronin moved through them like a deadly wind, striking one ruffian in the spine with enough force to instantly paralyze him, and whirling his Bokken to thrust it into the eye of another, pulling free in a shower of blood and other messy fluids.
The fourth ruffian, he struck on the top of his head – a blow so hard that blood ran from both his ears, and the Bokken shattered in the ronin’s hands. The ruffian’s eyes rolled up into his head and he fell to the floor.
Taku, seeing an opportunity, leapt to the attack. He fought with a sword of foreign design, straight, with two edges, and should have had some advantage, being able to strike in both directions against an unarmed opponent, but the ronin was apparently difficult to hit, and gracefully avoided every blow until, in short order, the drunken leader of the ruffians was winded and had to stop for a moment to breathe.
It was then that the ronin drew his katana. Now, I am no warrior, and certainly no sword expert, but even I could see that the blade was the work of a master far beyond the means of a penniless ronin. It virtually sang as it left its scabbard.
Taku, his cowardly core finally showing, threw down his sword and attempted to flee.
The ronin stepped forward and his katana cut the air, but appeared to miss everything save Taku’s long, dirty ponytail, which fell to the floor as Taku ran out the door.
He only made it a few steps before he stumbled, and then, in a fountain of blood, his head fell off, completely severed by the ronin’s single stroke.
We all stared, with no consideration for station or propriety, at the ronin in astonishment.
“His blood would have ruined the floor,” was all the ronin said as he sheathed his blade and went back to the garden.
He spent several days working in the garden; removing weeds, repositioning plants, and putting the creek back in its course.
When he was done, the garden felt… incredible.
Then, without any other noteworthy actions, he left.
After that singular incident, the owner took a greater interest in his establishment, and the wood began to shine with polishing. His tea improved, and if it was never as good as his father’s, it was still better than most. Finally, he hired a gardener to maintain the garden, so that if the ronin of quiet demeanor and grim mien ever came back, he would not have reason to deal severely with the owner.

Okay lets see if I can remember all the house rules. First don;t look up monsters or rules, that Val's job. Just buy basic equipment, magic/special items will be given based on your background, and background rolls. He rewards people who do character write ups during the campaign. You can write about your likes and dislikes of people situations, why you want to rule the world, whatever. It gives him a window into your characters mind and knows what motivates you. He also graphs alignments, so you might want to consider asking him his viewpoint of the alignment you chose so there will be no miscommunication. If I think of more stuff I will add it in.

Valegrim, I'd appreciate it very much if you can approve the use of this alternative class feature.

Spoiler:
From Kobold Quarterly No. 2
The Bonded Weapon
In place of her celestial mount, a paladin may undertake a ritual to strike a holy bond between her soul and her weapon of choice. This bond grows as the paladin increases in power.

Benefit: You form a holy bond with a weapon of your choice. In order to forge this bond, you must spend 24 hours in quiet meditation and prayer. Should you ever lose your bonded weapon, or if it is ever destroyed, you may undergo the ritual again. A bonded weapon may be enchanted with magic abilities as
normal. The special abilities are cumulative based upon your level; the hardness and hit point values are not cumulative.

Improved hardness and hit points: Holy power infuses a bonded weapon, making it sturdier and more durable than other weapons of the same type. Add this amount to the weapon’s hardness and hit point totals.

Bonded Weapon Table
Paladin Improved Improved
Level Hardness Hit Points Special
5th–7th +2 +2 Light, tightened grip,
focus of the master
8th–10th +4 +4 Merciful strike, sacred defense
11th–14th +6 +6 Undead’s enemy
15th–20th +8 +8 Improved smite

Light (Sp): You can opt to have your weapon shed light, as the light spell. Activating and deactivating this ability is a standard action. The caster level is equal to your paladin class level.
Tightened Grip (Ex): The process of bonding with your weapon allows you to maintain a grip on the weapon that others find extraordinary. Whenever you are defending against a disarm attempt,
you gain a +4 sacred bonus. At 13th level, the bonus increases to +8. This bonus only applies to your opposed roll to avoid the disarm.

Focus of the Master (Su): The holy bond between you and your weapon is strong. You may use your bonded weapon as a divine focus component any time one of your spells requires one.

Merciful Strike (Su): Paladins make amazing displays of mercy, even when facing hardened criminals. When wielding your bonded weapon, you may strike for nonlethal damage without incurring the normal -4 penalty.

Sacred Defense (Su): Power from the celestial realms infuses you and protects you. Beginning at 8th level, you gain a +2 sacred bonus to your armor class against evil foes. At 16th level this bonus increases to +4.

Undead’s Enemy (Su): Holy power suffuses you when you wield your bonded weapon. Against undead foes, your bonded weapon does 1d6 holy damage and is a good-aligned weapon for the purposes of overcoming damage reduction. If your weapon has the holy ability, this bonus damage stacks. At 17th level, your bonus to damage from this ability increases to 2d6.

Improved Smite (Su): A paladin with a bonded weapon is devastating against evil. Whenever you use your smite evil ability with your bonded weapon, you gain a +4 sacred bonus to both your attack and damage rolls.

Yes, I'm making a paladin.

Initial write up for Salus the elf scout

Spoiler:
I was going to have Salus be a deserter from the giant elven army advancing south. At first he was swept up in the frenzy as the elves first marched south but was quickly sickened by the destruction the army was creating and slipped off in the night. He is now hiding in Well of Life trying to find work. My wife is thinking about being a warmage and we could both be from the same unit and left together if this fits. This is all based my impression that the elven army is not just destroying blatantly evil civilizations on it's way south. I got the impression that they were killing almost anyone regardless of who they were.

Do you have the Complete Warrior? There is a full samurai class that might be pretty nice to use. I have never used it so I don't know what it is like but if you multi class with monk and samurai you might have some cooler class abilities.

Hello all,

Valgrymr asked me to stop by and help him with the house rules, I too am a long time player. I have 2 major characters other players will likely meet (One of which is that dwarf in the ice pyramid aka Baelinor, though he probably would not have been so flippant with the gods hanging around...) and play on and off since around 92.

Unfortunately, I dont really remember the house rules, they are more like conventions you just get use too and change slightly. But what I can do is enlighten folks a bit on the world without giving anything away.

Valgrymyr's world was designed as a 1st edition AD&D world. It was only last year we actually changed over to 3.5. This is something to keep in mind because many characters/things do not change over well. As a result, you will probably not find rules for many things as they are simply a part of the world and rather than try and squeeze them into a more artificial 3.5 setting he simply makes them work in his world.

Keeping that in mind, long time characters tend to change in a non lvl way. Baelinor is a dwarf, but not like any dwarf you will find in any game system anywhere. He started normal enough, but various in game events have changed him significantly. In game events happen quite a lot and while Val will make up rules for them, they dont typically affect things like level and xps so you find the normal concepts of balance not quite the same, though he takes this into account with the opposition as well, so while the balance is difficult to pin a number on it is there and leads to quite an enjoyable game, not so fettered by little rules.

Which leads to the next idea of consequences. Vals game is built around consequences. Everything your character says and does will be weighed by the world and a consequence result. Sometimes its a small one, sometimes a large one, sometimes good and sometimes bad. But there will be one. The entire world is in fact the way it is because of the players.

For instance; The "bad guys" are the front runners right now, because a much older group than the one I play with had a few players decide to throw in the with "bad guys" along with a cowardly barbarian.... There was an rather large lake in the middle of a desert because a certain not to be mentioned dwarf (not me) up and left an open decanter of endless water there. The reason the ancient emporer is up and running around is because of the players and if I remember the story correctly a bit of greed. Most of the human gods not considered major powers have been "slain" because of the players (no the players didnt do the slaying they caused the events to occur so that it would happen). A bunch of extremely powerful undead ghoul types are running amuck because of a player...And the list goes on. The world is a very dynamic story built not just by the GM but by the players in a very real way people can feel. All of these are quite the amusing tale and possibly something you will find out in game.

All NPCs feel alive in his world, they have goals, ideas, thoughts for the future, personalities, not just the major ones, every single one you run across. Keep that in mind when you are talking to people. Also, things are not always as they seem...A certain NPC of Baelinor's is quite the mystery, if you meet Baelinor you will definately meet this individual and he stands in stark contrast to what someone would normally expect.

In addition Val is very interested in working with the player stories. He usually gives extra XPs for write ups that cover the character's thoughts, ideas and rationals that dont so much come into play during the game. In fact a lot of the story of Baelinor was written by me, he just helped filled in the game things. Of course most of these stories had to do with his game and were designed around fitting into what I saw going on and how I wanted the character to participate in it. So it was something of a merging of ideas. For instance Donblast is back (well, not actually back per see) because of various things I saw going on in his game, a little sentence about Donblast in the original Dieties and Demigods, the path I wanted to take Baelinor down and an adventure we happen to be on that worked nicely into the whole idea.

Finally Val drew a lot of inspiration for the world from various books he read before say 1985?? If you had a similar interest in books you can see the books in the regions as you come across them, even meeting some major characters from them, though perhaps with different personalities and goals more related to the world they now inhabit. The world btw is the old Judge's Guild map, where the city state of the invincible overlord resides, if you have access to that. Though the world is by no means limited just to this dimension you can, if you know how actually go to parallel worlds, the various planes etc...all with an equal amount of content that is quite mind boggling when you think about it. I truly believe Vals world has far greater content then you will ever find in any published material including places like Greyhawk and Forgotten Realms.

Well I hope that help, I am looking forward to meeting your characters in game.

The Exchange

That's a cracking testamonial.

Valegrim - all the best with the game. Sounds like the players are in for an experience and a half.

Cheers

Hi Valegrim, it's me, that insignificant person who likes to disturb you upon occasion. I have been reading your posts on this Play by Post thingy and I still have no idea how it is done. Were I to be a participant I have some character considerations that I would like to bounce off you. I guess it depends upon what play is like. More or less I came up with a character idea (incomplete as it is) and would like to inquire about how it would translate over for you. I understand the character creation process is pretty much to roll up a D&D character right, levels 3-5 (do we pick the level we want)? I also have a few of questions.

1. When do you start playing (or hope to play by)?

2. Could you give me some kind of explanation of how it is played? Perhaps it would be easier to find me a game here on paizo, link it for me so I can see what others are doing.

3. If I don't jump in right away is this the type of thing where you can or cannot add people later?

4. If a character is made, would it be possible to receive information about the world around them that they (the character) would be aware of?

5. Is this more of a roleplaying experience or a die rolling game, or a tell the DM what you do and they make it up sort of thing?

6. How do I make pancakes?

Hey my husband has been running a game here and I have played in several so here is the one my husband has been running so check it out. As far as I can tell it is pretty typical Pbp.

Usually Pbp's are more Roleplayering games than combat, combat slows things down a lot.

Hey, I needed to let you know that my father has a mass in his throat and will be needing surgery and all of that fun stuff with in the next few weeks. As I am the only daughter and my parents are divorced I need to be with him during all of this. I have spent the past 48 hours freaking out and now that I have talked to the doctor and googled everything under the sun I am feeling a bit more hopeful that this will be ok. At this point in time I think we will be sent to Denver to the VA clinic there. Thank God that Dreamweaver (my hubby) bought me a laptop two weeks ago so I will be able to take it with me. So if you see me not posting so much this is why. Thanks for understanding.

PS To make pancakes: Follow the directions on the back of the box! Hee Hee

Also I will try to get my character completed before I leave. My hubby does know what I am planning with my character so if I don't get it finished he will.

yes; in the center of the north part of the continent, very close to some docks; the aforementioned tea house story could happen in the Isles of Blest; which are Japan in my game, then you could take a junker full of refugees to the southern continent.

This character looks ok at first glance; havent really gone through it yet.

Gold is pretty irrelavant in my game; not much to buy most of the time as only a few places have more than a batter economy; though in the south there is a market due to the presence of the three armies and their supply trains; potions and scrolls are fairly available, but other items are rare and rarely traded

ok; roll me a percentile - there is no good or bad number; then will see which of my charts your on; then will need several other percentile rolls; so might need one; might need 10; so if you can; give me some percentile rolls.
