Shadow Lodge

House = Rudianos Words = Battle and Bliss

This once mighty house has lost some of its luster over the last 2 centuries due to a slave uprising wherein a brilliant slave named Tyro seized control of the country through seduction and strategy at arms. For 18 months, Tyro ruled the Kingdom of Erenon. He was trained at tactics, warfare, and pleasure by House Rudianos. Considered by most to be a minor house, but the Rudianos’ have more potential than people realize.

They are known for producing hot-headed, intrepid knights; slaves fit for royal service, and the spice trade.

House Rudianos’ ancestral seat is in Lehrehn within the Kingdom of Erenon, but they maintain a sprawling manse in Veir as the port facilitates their slave and spice trade. (You begin in Lehrehn, where knights and slave-soldiers are made)

Slavery in allowed in the Kingdoms of Erenon, Isteroth, and Thelkon. The Freeland of Amerys outlawed slavery 20 years ago and opposes it openly.

Erenon, particularly house Rudianos, is known for training the best high-end slaves in the known world: bed slaves, scribes, healers, warriors; everything a ruling class could desire. They are very costly and take years to train. Erenon treats its slaves with dignity and respect when possible.

Isteroth imports slaves from wherever they may and uses them for mining, farming, logging, and construction. They use they slaves hard and are cruel and careless with them.

Thelkon sells the majority of the slaves in the world. With their love of reaving and their population crisis, slaves are easy to find and easier to sell. They are untrained, undisciplined things though.

The Freeland of Amerys is a true democracy. Education, Art, and Philosophy are paramount there. Don’t think them weak though, every man is conscripted to fight in the People’s Army from 16-20 and again from 38-50. It is said that if the whole nation was called to arms, they would have close to 100,000 trained swords.

This ought to be enough to get you thinking. Make the final touches to your characters. Anga, get yourself leveled up.

I have given you only very basic knowledge, the rest you can ask about in discussion. I may require knowledge rolls, but your character must pass on his/her own.

Though your stats and abilities peg you as a Pathfinder race, this world consists solely of humans. In other words, regardless of your mechanical race, you are a breed of human in this world.

Do you have any questions about the world you live in?

Eddric, you are the 4th son of Lord Rodrik Rudianos 3rd of his name. Humans come from everywhere.

Thaegrin, you work for House Rudianos and currently reside in Lehrehn. You may decide if you are a slave, were a slave (how did you earn freedom?) or have always been free. The men of long lives (elves) are said to come from the lost Kingdom of Ferawen which is believed to have been in the NW.

Wraith, you have the same choices as Thaegrin. Tieflings are curious humans from Acherd Islands, they are generally feared and mistrusted.

Anga, what are you thinking? I have heard next to nothing from you about this game.

Male Feraweni Yolomage of Swagical Power, level 8

Below are a few more rolls for the last of my created items.

Crunch:

Spellcraft 1d20 + 16 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 16 - 4 = 32, DC 13
Spellcraft 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (10) + 16 = 26, DC 13

Now onto business.
How many other houses reside in Erenon? What are their names? Does Rudianos have a standing slave army? Navy?
What forms of government do Thelkon and Isteroth have?
Despite their open opposition to slavery, will Amerys still trade other goods with the other countries?
Are there other arcanists working for House Rudianos? How common are spellcasters in this world?

Thaegrin will likely be a slave that purchased his freedom (I'll include a more detailed backstory on my profile).

Male Human 4 Caviler, 3 Fighter

Should Stormend by changed to Rudianos?

Shadow Lodge

How many other houses reside in Erenon? What are their names?

There are 5 Major Houses: Avernus, Luxovius, Moguns, Taranis, Vosegus

There are 7 Minor Houses: Abellio, Belatu, Cimbrianus, Intarabus, Nerius, Rudianos, Segomo

Does Rudianos have a standing slave army? Navy?

They generally have enough slaves in training to field about 300 soldiers, but these would not be fully trained men. The only navy Rudianos controls are their slave galleys of which they have 12. Those are kept in port at Veir.

What forms of government do Thelkon and Isteroth have?

Thelkon is a Kingdom and Isteroth is a Triarchy.

Despite their open opposition to slavery, will Amerys still trade other goods with the other countries?

Only if they can verify that slave labor did not produce the goods. They tend to produce most things themselves, and most of their trade is with Isteroth.

Are there other arcanists working for House Rudianos? How common are spellcasters in this world?

There are minor wizards with the house (none higher than 3rd level) and a few priests, but that's it. Spellcasters make up no more than 10% of the world population.

Male Human 4 Caviler, 3 Fighter

How about the actual family leading the house, IE who is Jathus' brothers/sisters/mother/father?

Male Tiefling Zen Archer Monk

How hated are the people from the Acherd Islands? Will I need to go around masked or am I generally accepted since I'm a guard for House Rudianos?

Male Feraweni Yolomage of Swagical Power, level 8

Thank you for the answers. I have more questions (I know, more work, but Thaegrin would want to know these things). Thanks!

What kind of "spices" does Rudianos trade in?

Where do Rudianos slaves come from before training? Bought from Thelkon? Many sources?

The major houses. Do they specialize in a certain trade, have a defining ethos? Besides the capital, where else is their dominion?

Which house in Erenon has the strongest military presence? Most expansive trade? Religious backing?

Do any of the minor houses have a certain rivalry against Rudianos?

Are there any gods that are particularly popular in this part of the world? Are there any religious organizations with political clout?

Are the houses of Erenon competing for a single seat of power? Or to be on a ruling council?

Male Half-Feraweni Rogue

Sorry for the double post, wanted to do some research before posting this bit.

Anga's backstory will stay nearly the same as it was before, the exceptions being that instead of a restless rogue bound for unknown environs, he instead has been working his way up through the intelligence community. A keeper of secrets and silencer of loose tongues, Anga would probably be in the employ of House Rudianos as spy and occasional assassin. He's still of mixed blood, and his contempt for whatever passes as elves in this world will of course remain. Though through prolonged exposure and occasionally working with Thaegrin, there should be some similar dynamics going on.

Does this work? Do you want me to change anything?

As for World questions:

Is there a significant spy community? Nations and houses vying for intelligence over one another?

How common are the Elven/thingys in the world? Super rare? Or Psudo-frequent? And where (if anywhere) are they typically from? One particular geographical region?

How easy is it to travel from Kingdom to Kingdom? Are there extensive border patrols? Does one need papers to move freely about?

Why does the anti-slavery nation of Amerys trade most frequently with Isteroth if Isteroth is known for being one of the worst nations in terms of slavery use and slavery abuse?

What's the corruption level of the major cities of Erenon? I.E. Veir, Lehrehn, Trey La, Quanlo, and I don't know maybe Cannesh? That is to say, is the law prominent? Or are there large amounts of Organized-Crime as well as general lawlessness?

Who is King of Erenon?

Lastly, is the majority of trade between kingdoms via sea? Or is it predominately overland?

P.S. May I say how much I'm enjoying this world map? Because, I'm enjoying it. A lot. In fact I am; ENJOYING ALL THE MAP!

EDIT TO FEAT: Alertness = NO. Two-weapon Fighting = YES.
You can thank Thaegrin for that.

Male Tiefling Zen Archer Monk

Is there any of the major or minor houses that are blatantly against House Rudianos?

Male Feraweni Yolomage of Swagical Power, level 8

I'd rather you didn't.

Male Thelkonlander Broracle of Lifts 8

Questions about Thelkon:

Who is the King of Thelkon?

How centralized is the government?

What major houses exist in Thelkon?

What are the major houses known for?

Who are their rulers?

Are there any unusual physical traits characteristic of individuals from Thelkon?

Shadow Lodge

The Rudianos Family

Dowager Grainne Rudianos – 84. Grandmother. Mother to Lord Rodrik. The family confidante and consigliore. Everyone, especially Lord Rodrik, goes to her for advice. Fiercely protective of the family.

Lord Rodrik Rudianos – 67. Father: An old man enthralled by the finer things in life. Once a hard and ambitious man, age has softened him some.

Lady Tearlag Rudianos – 58. Mother. Criminally insane. Extremely dangerous and unpredictable. Lord Rudianos permits no harm or slight to his wife. 2 guards are always about her.

Sir Bearach Rudianos – 34. Eldest Brother: Heir. Knight. Arrogant Bunghole. Seeks to restore the glory and prestige of House Rudianos. Severe and unyielding.

Sir Drostan Rudianos – 28. Second Brother. Vice-heir. Renowned jouster. Devout follower of Asmodeus. A contract is binding: period.

Grand Confessor Eonan Rudianos – 25. Third Brother. Exalted priest of Asmodeus. Mystery. Hard to read.

Sir Jathus Rudianos – 22. This is Josh!

Sorcha Rudianos – 8. The only Rudianos daughter. She was maimed by her mother at 5. Her left hand has only the ring and pinky fingers. She always seeks Jathus for aid and protection or when she feels suicidal (fairly often).

How hated are the people from the Acherd Islands? Will I need to go around masked or am I generally accepted since I'm a guard for House Rudianos?

People will generally be more wary of the Acherd folk, but how hated are different ethnicities in our own world? You will find varying degrees of racism.

What kind of "spices" does Rudianos trade in?

Garlic, Cinnamon, Cloves, Coriander, Ginger, Saffron. Thyme, Truffles, and Sumac are your “over the counter spices”

Your “What do you mean officer?” exports are Autumn Crocus, Bleeding Heart, Foxglove, Lily-of-the-Valley, Monkshood, Latana Camara, Hemlock, Elderberry, Belladonna, Mandrake, Nightshade, and Rag Wort.

Where do Rudianos slaves come from before training? Bought from Thelkon? Many sources?

Most of them would indeed come from Thelkon. However, defeated enemies and unwanted children also make it into the hands of slavers on occasion.

The major houses. Do they specialize in a certain trade, have a defining ethos? Besides the capital, where else is their dominion?

Avernus: Arms and Armor
Luxovius: Jewels and Gemstones
Moguns: Horses
Taranis: Brothels
Vosegus: Textiles
Abellio: Money and Military
Belatu: Pottery, Glassware, etc.
Cimbrianus: Alchemy
Intarabus: Livestock
Nerius: Shipwrights
Rudianos: Slaves and Spices
Segomo: Farming

Which house in Erenon has the strongest military presence? Most expansive trade? Religious backing?

In order… Abellio, Rudianos, Abellio and Luxovius

Do any of the minor houses have a certain rivalry against Rudianos?

Not openly. Rudianos is given a wide berth due to the slave upsrising of a few centuries ago.

Are there any gods that are particularly popular in this part of the world? Are there any religious organizations with political clout?

All the gods in Pathfinder have their place. Asmodeus hold particular power in Erenon (the focus is on law and wealth more than diabolism).

Are the houses of Erenon competing for a single seat of power? Or to be on a ruling council?

Abellio is the ruling family. Many houses would like the honor, but no one dares to defy them…

Is there a significant spy community? Nations and houses vying for intelligence over one another?

Of course not….wink. wink.

How common are the Elven/thingys in the world? Super rare? Or Psudo-frequent? And where (if anywhere) are they typically from? One particular geographical region?

The “Elven thingys” come from the Kingdom of Ferawen which is believed to have been in the NW corner of the world. There are no Elven thingys though. Everyone is human in this world. The different Pathfinder races are just “diversity of the human race” in this world. They are known as the Men of the Long Life and they are very rare in full blood, and slightly more common in half-breed form.

How easy is it to travel from Kingdom to Kingdom? Are there extensive border patrols? Does one need papers to move freely about?

One does need papers, especially if you desire noble treatment. Travel is easy enough for those with the coin available.

Why does the anti-slavery nation of Amerys trade most frequently with Isteroth if Isteroth is known for being one of the worst nations in terms of slavery use and slavery abuse?

Because Isteroth is the only nation that does not SELL slaves. Amerys doesn’t like it, but the must trade somewhere. This is the least of three evils.

What's the corruption level of the major cities of Erenon? I.E. Veir, Lehrehn, Trey La, Quanlo, and I don't know maybe Cannesh? That is to say, is the law prominent? Or are there large amounts of Organized-Crime as well as general lawlessness?

Erenon is very lawful.

Who is King of Erenon?

King Jonas Abellio

Lastly, is the majority of trade between kingdoms via sea? Or is it predominately overland?

Both are equally prominent.

Are there any of the major or minor houses that are blatantly against House Rudianos?

No

Who is the King of Thelkon?

Jarl Magnus Torstein

How centralized is the government?

Jarl Magnus says his kingdom in united, but the Thanes are unruly at the best of times.

What major houses exist in Thelkon?

There are no houses like in Erenon. Each Thane rules his own space. All it takes to be a Thane, is to claim it, and defend what you take.

What are the major houses known for?

N/A

Who are their rulers?

N/A

Are there any unusual physical traits characteristic of individuals from Thelkon?

Think Norsemen.

Male Half-Feraweni Rogue

How will our known languages... ...translate into this new world?

Shadow Lodge

They won't. There is a common tongue and a national tongue for each nation. Those you may start with if you can.

There are a few unique languages that can be learned once encountered.

Male Human 4 Caviler, 3 Fighter

What are the names of the national languages?

Are the other race human, a literal term. IE, do Dwarfs look like short people that are humans. Or are other race choices merely there for stat reasons?

How do marriage typically come about? Is it a historical European style, A woman is presented with a dowry to a potential highborn suitor?

What are the possible and common tittles for people of power? A general break down of all tittles and what they do.
King- Majesty?
Houseleader- Lord?

Male Thelkonlander Broracle of Lifts 8

Have there been any significant recent conflicts between House Rudianos and Thelkon?

What are the demonyms for each country?

What is the level of technological advancement, and how much does it vary by nation?

How stable has the political structure of House Rudianos been in recent years?

Is Tyro's line still in power in Erenon, or were they deposed/replaced?

Shadow Lodge

What are the names of the national languages?
Thelkonese, Isterothi, Erenese, Amerosi

Are the other race human, a literal term. IE, do Dwarfs look like short people that are humans. Or are other race choices merely there for stat reasons?
Other race choices are merely stat reasons.

How do marriages typically come about? Is it a historical European style, A woman is presented with a dowry to a potential highborn suitor?
Marriage works like it always works. People have different ideas. Anything is possible.

What are the possible and common tittles for people of power? A general break down of all tittles and what they do. King- Majesty? Houseleader- Lord?
This is more work than I am prepared to do at the moment. IF you see a title you're not sure of, ask in OOC. Use the best title you can think of, if you are wrong, or there is a better choice, we will RP it.

Have there been any significant recent conflicts between House Rudianos and Thelkon?
No

What are the demonyms for each country?
See languages.

What is the level of technological advancement, and how much does it vary by nation?
Eveything is frairly gritty. Magic items exist, but they are rare. Magical arms and armor represent a finer craftsmanship.

How stable has the political structure of House Rudianos been in recent years?
Stable, but somewhat stigmatized.

Is Tyro's line still in power in Erenon, or were they deposed/replaced?
He was cast down months after his rebellion. Though many fear another.

Male Human 4 Caviler, 3 Fighter

What is the average amount of brothels per city?

Ready for the start.

Male Thelkonlander Broracle of Lifts 8

Do individual Thanes sell slaves, or is the slave trade managed/controlled by Jarl Magnus Torstein?

Are there particular Thanes in Thelkon who are more likely to sell to House Rudianos?

What is the average price of a slave sold by the Thelkonese?

Male Feraweni Yolomage of Swagical Power, level 8

Can we get the names of those in the Isteroth triarchy? Is there a real-life civilization they are similar to?

How does Thelkon reaving affect politics? Are they exclusive to a certain area, or random everywhere? Is it something that everyone puts up with?

Shadow Lodge

What is the average amount of brothels per city?

It really varies, but 2 is a safe number. Veir has close to 30.

Do individual Thanes sell slaves, or is the slave trade managed/controlled by Jarl Magnus Torstein?

Individual Thanes sell on their own. The Thanes all pay tribute to Jarl Magnus each year.

Are there particular Thanes in Thelkon who are more likely to sell to House Rudianos?

Nope. Anyone will sell if the price is right.

What is the average price of a slave sold by the Thelkonese?

Common Slave - 75 gp
Hard Labor Slave - 100 gp
Household Slave - 50 gp
Specialized Slave - 500 gp

Bulk pricing is common too, at a discounted rate.

Can we get the names of those in the Isteroth triarchy? Is there a real-life civilization they are similar to?

Dagan(M), Ekur(M), and Ninbanda(F). Think a cross between Egypt, Sumeria, Mesopotamia and add a dash of Slaver's Bay from GoT.

How does Thelkon reaving affect politics? Are they exclusive to a certain area, or random everywhere? Is it something that everyone puts up with?

The Thelkonese raid everywhere. Everyone claims to hate and despise the practice, but the resistance to these raids is little more than show to the small folk. Some even say that the Thelkonese are told by other governments where they should raid to decrease population or oust a foe.

Shadow Lodge

Josh did you get my PM?

Do we have anymore questions?

Male Thelkonlander Broracle of Lifts 8

I think I've had all of mine answered.

Shadow Lodge

That's two down.

Wraith?

Thaegrin?

Anga?

Shadow Lodge

Wraith, I just read into Monkey style and I believe it will serve you well. However, as to the attacking from prone, you can do so with melee weapons, but a longbow is not usable from prone. You could get a crossbow for that: or a sling; slings are free.

I just want you getting surprised in game.

Male Half-Feraweni Rogue

Should be good to go.

Male Tiefling Zen Archer Monk

Don't mind not shooting on ground. Monkey style was for getting up from the ground without causing attacks of opportunity. He'd basically kip up and shoot. Good to go.

Shadow Lodge

Just waiting on Thaegrin then.

Male Feraweni Yolomage of Swagical Power, level 8

Ready.

Shadow Lodge

Alrighty...I will start up the game thread whenever I feel like it.

Shadow Lodge

GO

Male Half-Feraweni Rogue

And here. we. go. *looks out over the water for an explosion*

Male Feraweni Yolomage of Swagical Power, level 8

So, uh, that didn't go as I expected...

Male Thelkonlander Broracle of Lifts 8

Yeah. Seriously. So, plans? Even if they're unarmed, we're still outnumbered 2-3 to 1. If we take them prisoner and try to cart them anywhere we'll be severely encumbered and very vulnerable to ambush.

Oh. First thing, get the carts moved so they're not arranged the same way.

Male Feraweni Yolomage of Swagical Power, level 8

Agreed, move the carts. Let's find out if this speaker for the group is Black Moon. If he is, his head might be required in Rudianos court. What to do with the others though, especially after Jathus' promise of pardon. I wouldn't wholly trust them. Two thoughts:

Sell these captives to the slave trainers. They get to keep their lives, but at a cost. As a bonus, we get money, maybe.

OR

Grant a full pardon in return for a favor in the future. Thaegrin can take a lock of hair from each of them in order to find them when the time comes to redeem this favor.

I know these are more long-term ideas. I don't have any for the immediate situation.

Quick question on details for the GM. Thaegrin already rolled a Knowledge for the Fowls of the Forest, but this is an obscure detail that might've been included. Would he know if these Fowls of the Forest are members of disenfranchised community resorting to theft to survive? With families and homes in hiding? Or is it more like a bunch of scallywags that like to steal and kill?

That detail might affect what we do with them.

Male Half-Feraweni Rogue

Errr... I think a full pardon has been granted already...

Shadow Lodge

Bump

Male Tiefling Zen Archer Monk

So do we run or stay and fight? If need be we can just wheel around on the mounts and book it.

Male Human 4 Caviler, 3 Fighter

GOD DANM IT DAVID STOP MAKING UP WORDS! RUN? WTF RAGEEEEEEEEEEE, Your use of the word Book it? Its weird...

Male Thelkonlander Broracle of Lifts 8

Dude. You really need to stop trying to get us killed.

Male Feraweni Yolomage of Swagical Power, level 8

Agreed. Running away was a viable option.

Male Half-Feraweni Rogue

The BEST option. The one we SHOULD have taken.

Male Tiefling Zen Archer Monk

Think of all the LOOT.

Male Half-Feraweni Rogue

Loot is only good if you're alive to use it.

Male Half-Feraweni Rogue

Jathus, you might want to change your password. It would seem somebody has hijacked your account and is posting spam with it.

Male Feraweni Yolomage of Swagical Power, level 8

I would like to point that we have horses and they do not. A retreat would be a good idea, and I could throw up a Wind Wall to cover our backs from a volley or two. If someone grabs the reigns of Wraith's mount, we might even get everyone out.

Those in favor?

Male Half-Feraweni Rogue

Anga's gonna run. What's everybody else going to do?
