"He wants me to betray you and join his side, and I admit, the power he offers is tempting. Then she smiles and looks at the man. "But my soul belongs to Nethys, and I will not betray him! Nor my friends, because they're good people. Completely untutored, of course, but good people.
"Besides, they are not to be trifled with, either. What they lack for in knowledge, they make up for in will."
She holds out her hand, readying to hex him if she needs to, though she continues to concentrate on her spell to learn all that she can.
Garekk |
Garekk growls at the man. "To your knees! We will bind you and take you before the Baron."
I don't know how to do this mechanically.. if it is a readied action or what, but if he even looks like he is going to get frisky, Garekk would think nothing of slicing down. We do not want to battle a mage in these close confines.

She looks to the men of her party.
"May I hex him, please? I haven't actually hexed anyone since I came to that inn and helped with that baby. Can I teach this guy a lesson?"
She then looks at him.
"True power is granted by Nethys, my dear, and if it is abused, he sends someone like me to take it away."

It would be a readied action to attack him. Someone else will need to bind him if you want to transport an enemy caster even remotely safely.

"Well, for one thing, I'm talking to you," she countered bluntly, "through magic that he provides. A common spell, granted, but it's still coming from him. I just thought of something. You boys keep him secure, if I can't hex him, that is. I'd better check out the rest of the place. He may not be alone here."

"dan mantra ini menunjukkan bahwa kekuatan saya tidak datang dari Nethys?"
Hailey Besh |
"But as I'm sure you know well, churches of Nethys are famous for their wars with each other. After all, when you follow an insane god who can't decide if he wants to save the world or destroy it, half of his church is into destruction and half of his church is in to preservation. I just happen to change sides depending on the situation.
"So if you are from Nethys, I consider you nothing but a splinter sect. And there's nothing that says I can't rebuke and stamp out, or at least take over and fashion to more proper doctrine, a splinter sect."
Garekk |
"Little One, if you have a hex that will make this easier on everyone, then by all means put him to sleep or whatever you may. However, unless you can make him unconcious somehow, I would urge restraint. I don't think it would be smart to simply anger him. I promise you that I will try to give you the chance to hex our next enemy though.." As he says this, Garekk motions for the rest of the group to come help.

Swift retrieves a length of rope from his pack, unraveling it and testing it's strength. Satisfied that it will hold the mage, he walks up to Garekk, ready to subdue the man should the need arise.
"It would be wise to follow Garekk's words, priestess. He speaks the truth. If we can keep this one unharmed, we may yet be able to coerce some information from him."
Hailey Besh |
"Very well, I'll abstain again. Besides, I want to look around this building. So I should go do that."
She carefully enters the next room, and when she's certain nobody can see her, she then casts Read Magic, as she should have done before. This allows her to read scrolls and any other magic writing with the greatest of ease and no need for a spellcraft check.
When she is finished reading the scrolls, she looks around this second room. She should still have the ability to both read the magic and understand any written or spoken languages.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Garekk |
Garekk keeps his attention closely focused on the mage as Swift ties him, but his concern is for Hailey wandering off on her own. "Hailey! There were two voices in there.. Be careful!" Once the mage is bound, Garekk will take a bundle of the mans robes and stuff it in his mouth to keep him from giving voice to any more evilness.
Hailey Besh |
Hailey will return to the men, then go to Swift-Palm.
"I really want to explore this place, but there's an entry area to the other side of the great hall I just left, and several bedrooms, and I understand the concept of priorities. If I quit looking now and help you deliver this blasphemer to the baron, will you swear to me that once he's in custody I can come back and search to my heart's content?"
Garekk |
Now that the sorcerer is tied and gagged, Garekk drags him into the next room, and sets him down in the middle of the room and tries to keep an eye on both him and Hailey. "Swift, there were two voices in here.. be on the lookout, and keep an eye on Hailey. Do you think that we are safe from this fool for the moment?"
Swift-Palm |
"From what I could discern, yes there was..."
He pauses briefly, spinning around the room as he looks at it from every angle.
"Evil could be lurking in any corner, taking whatever shape it desires in an effort to lull us into a false sense of security. I'll keep an eye on Hailey, but someone must watch this mysterious man. We do not know what he is capable of. It is best not to underestimate his capabilities."
Garekk |
Seeing the place apparently empty, Garekk takes the gag from the wizards mouth, but has his sword at the mans throat.
"Who was in here with you, and where is the rest of the family that your minions dragged off? Mind you, one wrong word, and we will be taking a body to the count, and not a prisoner, so do not try to cast any spells."
Hailey Besh |
Hailey will continue to search, though she'll leave the bedrooms since there's nothing left worth looking at.
And remember, she's not only (or really) looking for monetary value. She's looking for anything pertaining to magic, even if it's merely involving the Knowledge: Arcana skill.

Does she go outside?
Browman |
If she finds nothing of interest (and for your reference, gold is not of her interest unless it pertains to magic,) then yes.
The only other thing of interest inside the building is a very finely made great sword sitting on display behind the raised chairs.
Outside you find several outbuildings including what looks like a stable and several large sheds. It looks like this location at one point had a wooden palisade but it has mostly collapsed and rotted away.
Browman |
The sword is not magical.
Outside you don't detect anything magical but the stables currently have 2 horses in them and two other stalls look recently used.
There are a trio of dogs that look very savage in one of the sheds, along with clear traces of blood and a woman and child hanging upside down in the second, their throats slit so that blood is slowly dripping into buckets beneath them.
Hailey Besh |
"So that's your game, eh?" Hailey asks.
At this point, she returns to the boys, running back to them.
"Boys, I need one of your help! I think I found the woman, and a little boy."
She looks at the captive mage, sees his mouth free, and glares at him.
"Death has its use in magic, mister, but the slitting of throats to collect the blood? How uncivilized. No class at all. Vampires or demons and devils?"
Not really bothering to wait for an answer, she looks at the men to see if either of them will go back with her.
"Come on!"

"kebodohan seperti itu, dan dari orang yang mengaku diberkati oleh Nethys. Darah memiliki kegunaan, tetapi menurunkan tubuh jadi lebih cepat."
Hailey Besh |
"So its the corpses you're after. Of course, for the creation of the undead. I'm afraid I let those dogs scare me. Very well then, what is the truth? Enlighten me."
Then she turns to the boys.
"And I forgot to mention this, so I'll quite understand if you boys are angry with me, but I was so excited by the prospect of finding power that I didn't think of it, but he's speaking infernal. That means devils, evil things who keep their word, but twist it to their own wicked intentions." She's attempting to describe lawful-evil. "So while he's not trafficking with demons, who'll break their word along with everything else, it does indicate what kind of person he is, and what we're dealing with her. A devil. Which type, I don't know yet. But that's what we're working with."
Browman |

"menjadi takut anjing-anjing adalah hal yang bijak pertama yang Anda katakan kepada saya. Katakan apa yang Anda mengetahui anjingmati itu?
Hailey Besh |
"Those dogs I saw outside are probably in the conversion process. Oh, sorry. He's involved in a remarkable feat of necro-biological engineering, using the flesh of the undead as a food source. Creating dogs that are, rather I suppose one could put it, partially undead, making them distinctly more powerful. And more hostile."
Then she turns back to him.
"So what are you doing with them?"
Browman |

The man seems to have stopped talking to you.
Garekk |
Garekk shudders in undisguised horror as Hailey translates and explaines what is being said. "It is good that we found this beast.. and his dogs. We shall have to take care of the animals. They are too dangerous to let loose, and it would be cruel to let them starve. They cannot help what has been done to them." Looking to Hailey at this last, he asks "That is, unless you know of a way to rehabilitate or save them?
Turning to Swift, Garekk asks "What should be done with the bodies? We cannot carry them out of here while keeping guard on the prisoner..?
Garekk |
I know, right? Browman: how is the search coming along? Is there just a general recruitment post? Maybe the rest of us could join in and talk up the game and keep it at the top of the board.
Swift-Palm |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
I suggest we roleplay that we still have the whole party, since we technically do, that way we can split the tasks at hand here.
Garekk |
Heeding Hailey's advice, Garekk shoves the gag back into the mage's mouth and walks over to the great sword on the wall. "You said that this was not magical right? It may come in handy!" Garekk takes it down and shoves lashes it across the top of his pack for later investigation.
