Ya. What those guys said. :)

I'll start working on the build tonight! :)

So...would not posting a backstory or alignment be better for party interplay? Seems it would. Backstory is a good tell on player skill and value though.

Given that a part of the selection process includes voting on people who we want to have with us, I think we're going to have to put backstories out there.

Scarab Sages

Indeed.

Man. Gestalt is tricky... I'll need my finest toothed comb for this one

Well, I had made a good start on making a character sheet in my new alias for this campaign, but when I clicked preview I got kicked to the paizo main page and I couldn't go back or recover my writing. So, character sheet and story will come tomorrow.

I have two questions for now: One, you mentioned that feats that apply to one weapon apply to a group. What about Exotic Weapon Prophiciency? Many Exotic Weapon Prophiciency-weapons aren't in a group, or are in a group with a lot of martial weapons who don't need that feat (I have martial weapon prophiciency from my class). Would we need to make a custom group for that? Or would you prefer not to bother with Exotic Weapons groups and supplying them as loot? I don't per-se need that feat, I'm sure I can make use of the Skill Focus feat too.

And two, I'm considering the Steelblood archetype for the Bloodrager, which focuses on heavier armor (yes, that does mean I'm less useful at the buck-naked start of course). All else being equal, I would prefer vanilla Bloodrager (or Metamagic Rager, which can't be combined), but it might be a nice archetype to take if there are no other heavy armor users in the party. Could I wait to see what the final party composition looks like before deciding this, or would that be too meta-gamey?

@Choon- if this is your first time doing gestalt you can PM me questions or things you're unsure of and I'll help you out.

Oh Bifi, I'm sorry. Do it in notepad, it doesn't hold your information for long, so do it in a word program then copy and paste it over and hit save quickly.

Thanks. I think I'm getting it. It's just a few more spinning plates than I'm used to.

Fire is number one for sure, Wind would be the fall back, but with the worship of the dawnflower fire for sure. Character in alias.

Here is Sir Gavin

Wings are cosmetic for now. He will not be able to fly until level 5.

Backstory:

Sir Gavin was born in the great city of Katheer. He was born a noble and a man of privilege. He gave up his wealth though as he received a calling. He had a fire in his heart that drew him to the temple of Sarenrae the dawn flower. He was to go on crusade. He had spent his years training and was now ready to leave as the festival in Kenebras was a few months away. Sir Gavin had secured a boat to take take him to Absalom and from there to Andoran. Unfortunately a storm hit in the middle of the night and his ship was capsized. He now finds himself waking on a beach. Everything he owned is gone. He sees three strangers. As they start to wake the questions flow into his head, [i]what happend? where am I? Who are these people? They are starting to wake as well. I should show caution. As the others away they see Gavin sitting in prayer. Questions rushing to their heads as they did his. Moments pass as Gavin prays in the angelin tongue. As he stands a shimmering flame envelops his body. There is no heat, but the the symbol of the dawn flower glows upon his forehead. "Is everyone alright? I am Sir Gavin. I was on my way to Absalom it appears my ship capsized in a storm. I don't recognize any of you from my ship. Why are we all naked? I fear there was more to this than a storm."

Wait.....ANY race??!!!

Dibs on Gargoyle.

Doh! Forgot to ask: Is Water associated with cold? He's Fire and Water if it is, Fire and Air if it isn't.

Scarab Sages

My character will be pretty hard core earth. I'm planning to be a geokineticist. If I can't be earth, fire might be the next best fit.

I have one question: while we'll get the opportunity to get animal companions, will we get to choose them? The specific choice I have is important to my concept.

Based on this question, I'm going for Air/Water. Halfling Hunter/Aerokineticist. I understand that I'll be missing a big part of one of my classes until we figure some stuff out, but I think he'll be able to survive until then. CG, so should get along with most people.

I'll post background and crunch later, and my my ally choice closer to the deadline.

@Deko, It doesn't matter for this game, but Aegis can use power points for augment suit, empowered blast, crystallized weapon. Of course, they get much more points that you can normally use on these. Of course in a gestalt game with psionics, Aegis power points become fuel for the psionic class on the other side of your gestalt.

SPECIAL ABILITIES
--------------------

BLOODRAGER SPECIAL ABILITIES
Bloodline (Black Blooded)
Bloodline Power (Black Blood) You are immune to the effects (both beneficial and destructive) of black blood. You have this benefit constantly, even while not bloodraging. When you take damage from a slashing or piercing attack while bloodraging, as an immediate action you can grant your melee attacks the frost weapon special ability for 2 rounds.
Bloodrage At 1st level, a bloodrager can bloodrage for a number of rounds per day equal to 4 + his Constitution modifier. At each level after 1st, he can bloodrage for 2 additional rounds per day. Temporary increases to Constitution (such as those gained from bloodraging or spells like bear's endurance) don't increase the total number of rounds that a bloodrager can bloodrage per day. The total number of rounds of bloodrage per day is renewed after resting for 8 hours, although these hours need not be consecutive.
A bloodrager can enter a bloodrage as a free action. While in a bloodrage, a bloodrager gains a +4 morale bonus to his Strength and Constitution, as well as a +2 morale bonus on Will saves. In addition, he takes a –2 penalty to Armor Class. The increase to Constitution grants the bloodrager 2 hit points per Hit Die, but these disappear when the bloodrage ends and are not lost first like temporary hit points. While bloodraging, a bloodrager cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride) or any ability that requires patience or concentration.
A bloodrager can end his bloodrage as a free action. When the bloodrage ends, he's fatigued for a number of rounds equal to twice the number of rounds spent in the bloodrage. A bloodrager cannot enter a new bloodrage while fatigued or exhausted, but can otherwise enter bloodrage multiple times during a single encounter or combat. If a bloodrager falls unconscious, his bloodrage immediately ends, placing him in peril of death.
You can use this ability three times per day.
??Fast Movement A bloodrager's land speed is faster than is normal for his race by 10 feet. This benefit applies only when he is wearing no armor, light armor, or medium armor, and not carrying a heavy load. Apply this bonus before modifying the bloodrager's speed due to any armor worn or load carried. This bonus stacks with any other bonuses to the bloodrager's land speed.
??Uncanny DodgeAt 2nd level, a bloodrager can react to danger before his senses would normally allow him to do so. He cannot be caught flat-footed, nor does he lose his Dexterity bonus to AC if the attacker is invisible. He still loses his Dexterity bonus to AC if immobilized. A bloodrager with this ability can still lose his Dexterity bonus to AC if an opponent successfully uses the feint action against him.

ORACLE SPECIAL ABILITIES
Oracle Curse (Lame): One of your legs is permanently wounded, reducing your base land speed by 10 feet if your base speed is 30 feet or more. If your base speed is less than 30 feet, your speed is reduced by 5 feet. Your speed is never reduced due to encumbrance.
Mystery(Juju)
Revelation (Undead Servitude) You gain Command Undead as a bonus feat. You can channel negative energy a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier, but only to use Command Undead. You can take other feats to add to this ability, such as Improved Channel, but not feats that alter this ability, such as Alignment Channel.
Mystery spells (Mending)

--------------------
EQUIPMENT
--------------------

Person:
Nothing

Description
A tall man, with short hair, long slender limbs and a pale skin. He prefers to wear long hooded robes in dark colors, decorated if at all possible with silver thread or small rubies. Without his robe, it is easy to understand his preference: His left leg sports a ghastly black taint, originating just below the knee but with black strands extending nearly a foot up and down his leg. The injury doesn't appear to hurt him or impair his speed as much as might be assumed, his bad leg's movements during walking does appear slightly off.

Personality
First impressions are not a good way to judge Markan. Upon meeting him as he travels from village to village, he seemed to many of the locals like a pleasant man, a devout follower of Sarenrae always happy to provide magical assistance for little more than a meal or a place to stay. In personal converstations, he acts polite and friendly, with the worst that can be said of him that he appears a bit aloof and distracted at times.

But there is a reason he never stays long, and often left quickly at night if he did. Markan is truely vicious once he feels someone has acted badly. Once someone has roused his fiery anger, he does not feel any inhibitions to unleash whatever foul powers are at his disposal.

Almost as frightening at his fury and malice towards those he sees as enemies are the gentle and articulate justifications for his actions he provides if anyone he did not deem an enemy witnessed his actions. His quick tongue and soothing voice has tricked a few uneducated peasants into believing his theological justifications, often centered around Sarenrae's act of forging the eternal fires that torment Rovagug. As Markan is eager to explain, this means that some evil is simply past redemption in this life. However, he feels that such beings might be redeem themselves after death, in undead servitude to a man with the moral fortitude to create and command them to make ammends for their actions. And while he would never say he is such a man, the message is implied.

In truth, these stories are as much for his own benefits as for those of others. He very much wants to think he is a redeemed man, devoted to Sarenrae. And he takes the powers that were bestowed upon him as a sign of blessing for his quest to crush evil with any means neccesary. No one knows what foul power is truely behind granting him his powers, himself least of all.

---

I left a few ?? there, to be decided after rulings from DevonPirate.

One of those rulings is about whether water stands for ice. If it does, Water is one of his elements, because of his apparent calm yet coldhearted reasoning. Else it's Air, representing his aloofness and gentle demeanor. Either way, Fire is his other element, for the furious anger he sometimes unleashes on his foes.

And if DevonPirates' remark about the characters noticing their strange gestaltness means they weren't gestalts before washing up: Markan was always an oracle with a crippled, tainted leg. Upon waking up on the island, he finds the taint has intensified, empowering his anger with profane power, i.e. becomming a Bloodrager with the Black Blood bloodline.

Working on this Slayer or Ranger/Inquisitor. Air or Earth will be his element and he will be an archer, eventually, when he can craft one or something.

Dmitri- divine tracker ranger (IMO) goes really well with inquisitor...

@Bificommand, bloodragers don't have d12 HD.

I really like the sanctified slayer inquisitor with Ranger, get some seething hatred and all the favored enemy :) It is really good if you know what you may be fighting a lot of.

Sorry folks, busy day with the fam yesterday and a rough start at work today...

@Korak - An Alchemist [X]/Alchemist [X] ? Ya know when I first read it I was like "no way!" but then I thought, you could be a wizard/cleric and I wouldn't care so why would I care about this? Put it together lets see what it looks like. I can't imagine its an issue but I want to give it a once over just to be sure.

@Escheton - Yeah you need to post something backstory wise. That said maybe hold some things in reserve for those special character moments ;p Yeah any race..but won't you all feel foolish when all the loot is elvenblood keyed and you are a bunch of gargoyles and goblins and what not. O:)

@Bifi - Ugh about the dropped post, I hate that.

  • 1. Well I am not worried about supplying ANYTHING as loot. The island has what it has though with crafting being a big piece of things anything is possible. I hate the EWP feat tax but I also don't want to waive it entirely because I have seen what happens when I do THAT, lol. What weapon are you thinking about?

  • 2. No waiting. Take it or don't. That said, retraining is an option so...you can always use the power of montage to change your mind later.

  • 3. Typically ice spells would be "water" though keep in mind that the elemental alignment you pick may not be reflected in your skills and abilities. So you could be an ice mage but put yourself in the fire/earth tiers due to any other factor. It mostly will play a role when the game starts.

  • 4. Can you note for me which skills you invested your "extra" skill points in?

@Sir Gavin/Ashe - Synthesist? REALLY? I kid. I'm amused at the paladin with such a high stealth score. ;p

@Philo - Ah good question...to which my reply is "sort of". Specific animals may or not be available but there will be some flexibility in getting, say, a flying animal or one large enough to be a mount. May not be a lot of "arctic foxes" or "Archaeopteryxes" but there are things around. I guess the best way to put it is mechanically, there will always be the choices available to your class. They just may be reskinned to match the flora/fauna of the island.

@Squeeze Bits/adsapiens - Can you note which skills you invested your "extra" points into? Also, nice, just...*shakes head* what a pain in the ass this guy might be. :p

Well the last time I got rid of the EWP feat my players were like kids in a candy store and it wasn't that they picked things that were out and out powerful they just picked a bunch of random crap that had their own rules and I had to spend half of every combat looking something up or verifying some weird piece of info.

One of them was carrying around a harpoon, there were like three repeating crossbows, some weird sword with holes in it (this was back in 3.5) and a handful of other light or thrown things that had weird threat ranges or weird sub abilities.

It was mostly just thematically silly. (It was a forest ranger type character carrying the harpoon for instance) and it was a perfect example of asking what people intend before you just nix a rule. I honestly think that its mostly a non issue but previous players have baked caution into me. ;p

lol, them crazy players huh?

Hey Synth is still pretty strong but probably much better balanced in E6. I even kept it simple with biped, no crazy pouncing build :)

If you care about player activity at all, I am in 12 games on here and make 10-30 post a day depending on how fast the others are posting in games. Feel free to check my alias's and other games if you want examples of play. Thanks for the consideration.

It was the only ranged slow available to fighter-types. It was glorious. Actual cc on a barbarian. Ya know, other than croaking someone.

It is, you are very right. I don't mind them at all truth be told but I find that my sense of "game balance" might not be as firm as others. *shrug*

I just like giving people crap about them because they are so loathed on the boards....like gunslingers. Say, where are all the gunslinger submissions? :p

I do. I wasn't aggressive about asking for it in this submission as I was in my last recruitment because its easy to deal with inactive players on a mysterious island. I want there to be opportunities for newbies to submit and get in but I want to see a good pace and will surely consider posting history when look at vote tallies and tiebreakers and what not.

Yeah it was actually pretty fun/funny. I just tend to sometimes get these flashes of visualization about games I am in and it just always seemed "funny" to imagine someone who was basically Legolas throwing that weapon.

I added some "*" there marking where the four extra skill points went :) Squeeze is funny and a big pain in the ass! Limb climbing is more funny than effective, lol ;)

@Ashe: Woops, you're right, I'll fix it. Was still thinking of the barbarian.

@Devon:
1: I originally wanted the Fauchard, because it looks nicely scythe-like but with more practical stats. But... looking at what I have now, and what I can likely get in the Gestalt/E6 system, the difference isn't worth the headache. I'll just take the Skill Focus and be done with it.

2: Roger, Vanilla Bloodrager it is.

3: I don't really use ice spells, it was more of a coldhearted personality thing. Given your answer, Fire/Water it is. (I generally like Air as an element, but it doesn't fit this character quite as well so nm that one.)

4: They were hidden in the character sheet already:

Sheet itself looks good. I would recommend a background blurb just to help flesh the character out/ give the other players a sense of how you intend to play his personality so folks can decide to vote for you. ;p

It is ideal, though not required immediately if I know where in Golarion the characters are from because "home" will certainly play a role in the game (like any good castaway story).

ALSO your sheet reminded me:

I would appreciate all submissions to include a mundane item of interest for your character. Its not something that your character had to be carrying but something from their background that mattered or matters to them. An old top from being a kid. A parent's old piece of clothing or jewelry. Something that if your character saw they could say "hey I know THAT"... its relevant to the start of the game...oh and just in case anyone decides to pick "My dad's old plate mail" or "my cousin Freddie's Bazookatron 9000" know that I did say the island is cruel and does not like you. :)

The Exchange

Oh and it has been determined, in the interest of letting the submission have the maximum ranged of potential that the 4th player will build around the submissions so there is no lock positions on the elemental axis issue if that was restraining anyone...

Three things.

  • You are on an oasis in the middle of an apparently endless desert and you can run an eight minute mile. You have no idea how far you are from anything. Is your first instinct to run out into the desert? How long can you keep that pace up? Etc. etc. etc.

  • C'mon now. One does not simply walk into Mordor...or fly away from my damn island. :p Yeah flyers will discover exciting opportunities all their own. I'll leave it at that. :p

  • It most certainly is not conductive. Unless you find some metal or something. Sorry I have been hit by the "dad" curse. My son has caused me to think that such jokes are funny. I couldn't resist :p

Edit: Actually I do want to mention something about the gargoyle, my brain has been itching about it and I just remembered why...

Some of what will happen is organic from the party. In that that group will act and do what it does. Build a hut. Hunt for meat. Explore a ruin.

Other things that will happen are reactive. There is...an anima to the island to an extent. Clearly, it (or something on it) brought you there. If one of the people in the group is a super powerful hard to kill creature it will react to that.

I don't mean that as a threat, more as a calibration of expectations. 4 goblins doing their thing will draw a certain kind of attention. 4 gargoyles might draw a very different type. Not good, not bad, just "is" and one that I want to be very up front about well before the game starts.

Hopefully that makes sense...

Slightly illegal, one drops my bomb damage down a level, the other replaces it with sneak attack

I added the "dearest" item to Squeeze's profile, and the background will come soon. :)

Actually, if anyone wanted to link stories, we could try too - Squeeze is a big-headed goblin that likes to steal food and trinkets. He was fleeing from the capital in a canoe full of food, his biggest heist so far, when he was caught in the thunderstorm who stranded him in the island. He's CN, very friendly and almost never eats his companion's clothes. He just burned four inns so far in his entire life, and he's almost learning to close his eyes when evil written words are pronounced by magicians.

Hmm, moral dilema: I meant that Markan was Fire/Water, and my Air suggestion was scrapped... but that brings me into conflict with Squeeze bits, while Air/Water is a bit more free. And Fire seems like an especially crowded field right now... Well, I'll just be honest, I meant Water/Fire, I think it fits the character a bit better than Water/Air, but I don't hate Water/Air either.

Just to make it clear, are we getting two representative elements, or just one and is the second one mentioned a "spare", mentioned so that it's a bit easier to make a party of all 4 elements? (So if you'd accept the 4 current submission, you could give Squeeze Fire, Markan Air, Ashe Fire and Deko Earth.) And relatedly, does each character need a unique combination of two elements, or an unique element, chosen from the list of two elements we supply?

As far as important items go: The holy symbol of Sarenrae of the priest that tried to put Markan on the right path after his terrible childhood in the Underdark.
He might have succeeded, but he met his end at the hands of other evil men he wanted to redeem, with his lessons only half-sunken into Markan's head. Markan became obsessed with avenging his mentor. Added to that was his reluctance to accept his earlier deeds as ultimately foolish and futile wrongs, done in reponse to sensless inflicted on him during his childhood.
And without the active council of the one man he'd begun to trust, Markan set out on a quest for brutal vengance that would've horrified his teacher had he been here to see it. Markan has killed two of the ones responsible already, but they had been locally hired weaklings. The leader and his lieutenant are still alive, and Markan's wanderings, while not being free of other acts of "justice" along the way, has been aimed at gaining power to defeat these two, and information about there wereabouts.
And just last month, a sailor had mentioned a man of both orcish and elven descent, with a description matching the lieutenant's, making a name in the criminal underground of a city far across the sea. As this was possibly a valuable clue, and in any case as good a chance to gain more power as any, Markan booked a passage on a ship...

Haha, doing something a little different this time, rest assured. Here is my submission, a Goblin Magus/Swashbuckler, going with the Water/Air elements. I cut the more recent years of the background a bit short because it was getting absurdly long as it was, but if another PC wants to be from the same boat I am, we can totally work something out!

Zika! We miss you. Everybody's dying.

Respectfully withdrawing.

Sorry, been busy with work, then had to help a friend set up a new desktop and that took forever.

Anywho, general background blurb:
Deko Dekoson III, son of Deko Dekoson, son of Deko the First, had always followed the tradition of being a bouncer for the Raging Fist Tavern in the slums of Absolam until he became of age. When he turned 17, he was given a backpack of general gear, plus his grandfather's leather gloves, given to him by a king from distant lands for helping protect his kingdom. With gear strapped, and a kiss from his mother, he set out on his journey.

He spent five years just wandering around, helping the odd village and hitting things. Finally, he decided to take a small trip home to visit with his family and tell them exciting stories of the different things he punched into the ground. The ship he was on, the Wandering Orc, was due back in the port of Absolam when it hit a sudden storm. Deko tried to help where he could when a large wave dragged him into the depths of the ocean, never to be seen again...

Yup, that's Deko Dekoson III, son of Deko Dekoson, son of Deko the First. The Raging Fist Tavern is a shout-out to the first Deko I ever made, a 3.5 custom-class Half-Orc. The leather gloves are his special item.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

I'm mostly just supplying wisdom.

I was considering submitting something but I'm working on putting together a high power version of RotRL (and then running it), so it don't want to add another game.

Wow...you made my brain want to do all sorts of crazy things with elemental combinations. (Note to self *scribble scribble*)

However. Each person in the party will have a primary. Each person is picking "two" to give them more flexibility in the selection process. Which is why I was saying it can be a strong or a weak link. Honestly its just another criteria by which to sort submissions that will have an impact in the game proper but not necessarily in all the ways one might assume.

As we get close to the final submission phase I might encourage folks to shift their alignments to allow a more even pool of candidates in each element. I feel like its just another "beat" that might encourage folks to develop ideas outside of their norm (like someone coming in right now and saying to themselves "What might an earth aligned character look like in my mind?" ) or something.

Dark Archive

I really can't feel this character so I will be backing out, good luck to everyone else.

Ahh you should do it! What's one more game? And what would a high power of RotRL look like?
