Flizzibus looks at Gideon and speaks up. "Father, please bless us before we embark on this endevour!"
No change in spells
After the meal, feeling refreshed he will cast greater magic weapon, extended thanks to his rod on his lance and, using his pearl, once more extended on his morningstar.
"I am ready!"
Arriving on the ship Flizzibus draws his blade and looks around, scanning for evil auras. Detect evil

WC Map

After your buffs, you hold on to Pele and he incants the magic to teleport you to the deck of the ship. Your surroundings disappear and when you reappear, you find yourself above the wrecked remains of a ship, which has crashed onto some rocks, about a quarter mile from a beach shore. Pele and Rothgar’s magic prevents them from sinking. Gideon and Flizz are not so lucky and they fall into the water and are about to sink like stones in their heavy armor into the depths of the ocean, when Rothgar’s quick reflexes and reach kick in and he grabs the two adventurers before they drown. Flizz’ dog falls in, but it can paddle for survival. The dwarf’s strength is significant and he deposits the two wet adventurers on the nearby rocks. From here you can see that the beachhead is littered with driftwood and the splintered ruin of well over a hundred ships. These skeletal wrecks crowd the rocky shoreline, a veritable city of barnacle-claimed vessels filled with dead sailors. Broken skeletons wrapped in threadbare rags hang out of yawning breaches in the ships’ hulls, and tattered sails whip in the fierce winds sweeping the shoreline. Beyond the shore, the rocky beach angles up slightly to an ancient maze of ruined walls and standing stones. Flizz detects no evil in range.

"Okay, then. Any ideas? Straight up the middle?"

Once everyone is secure and not in danger of drowning, Pele uses his ring of invisibility to vanish from sight.

"Fear not, I am still here, just hiding from vision at this time."

Gideon nods in thanks to Rothgar. "Thank you. I knew I should have kept that water breathing spell. I'll have to be more mindful in the future."

Taking stock of the area, he points to the ruins of buildings. "We travel up the middle for now. Once we are closer, I will attempt to Discern Location of the information we seek."

"This is a bad, wet start. A well, it can only get better! Ha, Radiance, please come over, let me dry us with a towel and then we are ready to march!"
After Pele disappears but is still to be heard, Flizzibus shrugs, looking at the dwarf. "Lego Lars was our tracker, back in those days. I am afraid, I am no good tracker!"

At the mention of drying off via towel, Pele snorts a bit.

"If you'd like, I can remove the water from you all in but a moment."

Assuming they all consent, Pele casts prestidigitation to dry Gideon, Flizzibus, and Radiance the Celestial Golden Retriever.

"I defer to our more martial members, after you, kind sirs."

Pele draws his bow and prepares to follow after Rothgar or Flizzibus, whomever takes point.

From what I understood, we are 1/4 of a mile away from the shore? How are Gideon and Flizz getting to shore? Am I carrying them?

Rothgar acts quickly to save his comrades. "Please advise me when you two wish to go for a swim ahead of time." The dwarf hides a smile on his face, as he deposits his allies on the rocks. "Looks like Darl's ship crashed on these rocks and he and his crew may be on the island already. Let's be careful. That ancient maze of stone up ahead also seems quite foreboding."

Feeling the spell take away the wetness Flizzibus smiles. "Thanks a lot. I mean if I am wet, that is fine, but with Radiance... that is another story!" After Radiance barks accusingly Flizzibus smiles at his companion and replies."You smell like wet dog when wet!" To that you would think the dog just grins.

WC Map

Rothgar flies at top speed carrying the gnome and Gideon, while Radiance paddles behind slowly. As he nears the shore and drops off his allies in two feet of water, nine orcs come out of the bushes. Eight of them wield greataxes and javelins, while the apparent leader wields a composite longbow. They are dressed in sailor garb. They look menacing but do not attack yet.

Map

The leader, a towering orc, speaks "Get off our beach now...freaks!" It is clear the freak remark was directed at the monk.

Most definitely recently, maybe hours ago, given by the makeshift tents you see in the bushes and the recently wet garb the Orcs are wearing.

Did you intend on remaining here all your lives? Please, let us pass, and I promise you I will return you to a port of your choice when we're done here. You have it on my authority as one of the high clerics of Sarenrae."

Gideon produces the jar of wine and biscuits, and shuffles his own pack off to provide rations.

WC Map

As the party proceeds to the maze, Pele incants magic. With the arcane eye, Pele gets a bird’s eye view of the maze and sees the following interesting aspects:

1. The maze is a square about 400’ x 400’.
2. In the NE corner of the maze, about 350’ in, there is a murky tidal pool of water about 30’ wide, in the center of which lies a huge black plant.
3. About 30’ north of the pool are the shattered remains of some statues.
4. In the middle of the maze about 200’ in lies a small patch of stony stalagmites covered in green crystals.
5. A mound of broken stone in the NW corner of the maze.
6. A circular disc made of obsidian covered in strange runes lies to the north on the other side of the maze.

Where to?

"One moment, I will scan a bit further."

Pele sends the arcane eye sensor around the perimeter of the maze, looking past it and beyond.

WC Map

The rest of the island is a barren husk with no sign of nature. It appears the maze and the areas described are the only notable features on the island. You do not sense any magic preventing you from flying over the maze.

The arcane eye casting took 10 minutes so Rothgar's Fly spell from his wand has expired.

Pele thinks for a moment, scratching his chin.

"Perhaps we approach as if we couldn't just fly over? Work through the maze as if on foot."

Marching order is fine. Only problem here is that Flizz is not the fasted and sometimes others engage in melee earlier. Have to ask Gideon to give radiance airwalk

WC Map

With Rothgar in the lead, the party enters the twisting and turning menhir maze, guided by Pele's arcane eye watching from above. Flizz detects evil every 100 feet into the maze but does not detect any evil as of yet. The party proceeds to the closest feature on the map, near the center.

The ruins here are complicated with a new feature; numerous spindly stone stalagmites fill the area. The rocky growths are carved with strange slash-like glyphs along vertical lines, but seem to have no other purpose. A small tangle of green glowing crystals grows from the base of a stalagmite near the center of this area.

Flizz detects evil in the area. With his extensive dungeoneering knowledge, Pele warns the party that he has heard of creatures who hunt via ambush, pretending to be stalagnites of stone or ice. These creatures, known as ropers, are expert camouflagers. They have strands that can extend as far as 50' and are said to be able to drain a victim's strength. They then draw the weakened prey to themselves, where they open their stone maws and devour their meal. They are, however, known to be immune to electricity, spell resistant, but vulnerable to fire. With the party's keen powers of observation, the party detects six 9' tall stalagmites, that stand above the rest.

Map

The ropers have not turned aggressive as of yet and are still camouflaged as stalagmites (unlike the map) and the party is right at the edge of the reach of their strands. What do you do? You can treat this as a free surprise round.

"Those crystals may be important for some purpose and the creatures are evil, so I have no compunction about destroying them. A powerful ball of fire magic conjured by Pele, followed by Flizz' charge followed by my attack should soften them up. If the party is willing..." The dwarf shows no fear that the ropers outnumber the party.

Gideon can retcon his surprise action, if he wishes, so will move along.

Roper in front of Flizz: taken 155 damage.
With his 10' reach, Rothgar can attack any of the three ropers in the front row.
Gideon, Rothgar, and Flizz act in Round 1 before the ropers.
