It's a lot like D2, but with a different skill tree. I'm only level 11 though.

Wizard, of course.

Edit: characters name is cookie, but "tag name" or whatever it's called is coffee golem. "tiny" wouldn't fit.

Lantern Lodge

Half-Elf Inquisitive 2/ Seeker 3

Good. I don't feel so bad now. Been playing with friends and getting pretty distracted.

What it says on the tin; Caffiene addict 20

The servers keep resetting/shutting down while I'm playing. It's irritating.

Primordial Ooze

Heh - launch teething was always going to be an issue really. Especially since they idiotically linked single player play to being online all the time.

That was kind of a head scratcher for me as well.

What it says on the tin; Caffiene addict 20

I think it some weak attempt to prevent hacking like in both 1 and 2. Though it really sucks that you have to be online. Hopefully they wise up and put out an update that changes that. Sooner the better.

Taking a 4th level of Ninja for Javi. I would love to hear some thoughts from everyone, though, regarding my choice of Ninja Trick. I'm down to choosing either Pressure Points (deal 1 point of STR or DEX damage every time I deal sneak attack damage) or Shadow Clones (spend 1 ki as a standard action to cast Mirror Image -- caster level equals ninja level). Both work from a story perspective and both work for his fighting style.

Anybody got any opinions before I make my final decision?

Javi Level up info:
1 level in ninja (Ftr 1/Ninja 4)
HP: 35 = 29 + 5 (1d8) + 1 (con)
Current HP: 17/35
+1 BAB (attack, CMB, CMD)
+1 Reflex
Class Features: Uncanny Dodge, Ninja Trick: Pressure Points or Shadow Clones, +1 Ki pool
Feats: Two-Weapon Feint
Skills: 10 new = Acro +1, Bluff +1, Climb +1, Diplomacy +1, Escape Artist +1, Perception +1, Sense Motive +1, Spellcraft +1, Stealth +1, Swim +1

M Elf Flowing Monk 5

Though what I was looking for seemed to reside in the Ranger class, Cassadar will be taking another level of Flowing Monk. Additionally, I'll have to dig into the character some more, he's virtually a 'bot, and that's unacceptable to me.

Cassadar Level Up:
1 level in Flowing monk
HP:1d8 + 26 ⇒ (1) + 26 = 27
Current HP: 20/26
Class Features: High Jump
Feat: Spring Attack
Skills: +1 on Swim, Stealth, Perception, K.(Religion), K(History), Acrobatics.

Primordial Ooze

So - the next phase is going to be a series of competetive trials - and I'm throwing it open to you guys to tell me what you'd like to be involved with:

  • Straight Chases
  • Chases with fighting / alternate objectives
  • Solo Bouts
  • Team Bouts
  • Challenge Fights (where there are alternate objectives)
  • Expedition outside of the capital
  • Other Suggestions?

I know the last while has been a bit railroady through the tower - so I was going to let group consensus choose what shape the next few encounters / challenges will take.

I don't know how complicated you want to make this thing, but one thing that I've always thought would be cool (and would totally work in a situation like this) is a team-based goal-oriented scenario that has a few ways of winning. What I mean is (and this is an example -- obviously not the only solution) what if we faced off against a team from one of the other schools in a large obstacle-covered arena (or even a real location.. like a forest or something) where the goals are to either A) be the last team with functioning members or B) find/capture the other team's flag.

Could be way more complicated than you're desiring to run over PbP, but it seems like a fun idea.

Other than that, I think -- since we just ran a series of scenarios without more traditional combat -- some quick team fights could be nice... with scoring or rep gained based on our performance as a team. If we go this route, I'm fine with solo, paired, or full-team fights.

Though honestly, all of those things you listed sound fun to me.

M Half Orc Druid 5 (Feral Warrior)

Hunger games style grudgematch.

That could be cool. Direct combat mixed with survival. Toss in some ways of scoring points? A golden snitch? :D

GENRE MASHUP!

GENRE MASHUP!

Should probably make that team based, as opposed to "there may be only one."

You see what I did there? ;-)

Yah, Javi doesn't really wanna be sat on by the Bear. Insult + Injury = :(

Primordial Ooze

Well I'd roll more Battle Royale than Hunger Games - but a version of that is doable. Will give Cassadar / Torgus / Frakdar a chance to weigh in as well.

Male Human (Kellid) Brawler(fighter):3/Urban Barbarian:2

I like Javi's idea and what about trophey hunts, hunting a list of powerful creatures or even bounties each worth a seperate amount of points and the total win that round. I like the idea of challenge fights as well.

So no one has any thoughts on whether I should take Shadow Clones or Pressure Points?

Male Human (Kellid) Brawler(fighter):3/Urban Barbarian:2

Depends you want the wasp swarm or the wasp's sting more? hehe

M Half Orc Druid 5 (Feral Warrior)

I don't have a strong opinion, wasp. However, ability damage is always helpful.

I'm leaning towards Pressure Points. It helps Javi a little less, but then everybody else benefits from it.

I mean one solid round of sneak attacks, and one of our opponents could be down +2 to hit or AC.

But yah, the thematics of both are really nice.

Lantern Lodge

Half-Elf Inquisitive 2/ Seeker 3

Chases with fighting/alt objectives, Expedition and Team bouts, though if you drop two, we could roll or draw numbers to see who got what.. Definitely interesting.

Primordial Ooze

Ok - this is what I've got in mind:

A few straight up knock em down fist fights, to let you flex your new level and get an idea of the other martial houses in the competition.

Followed by a free-form Battle Royale slash Running Man escapade on the barren island of Kaina Katakka - where you'll need to dodge the predations of teams from the other schools, while seeking to find and best a janni of each element.

Heads up. Won't be able to post much (if at all) today. Busy day.

Male Dwarf(Ouat Caste) Monk of the Four Winds/5

I am back. I like the team hunger games/capture the flag. Which sort of sounds like what DM VoV is planning on.

Will work on leveling tonight.

Javi, I love mirror images, you can face a high damage output opponent and take no damage. Ability damage seems minimal, if the enemy is strong enough to last more than a few rounds, we are in trouble. I suppose Dex damage would be ok, but it is only a +5%/2 hits increase on attacks.

Male Dwarf(Ouat Caste) Monk of the Four Winds/5

Level 5 - HP: 1d8 ⇒ 4

Male Human (Kellid) Brawler(fighter):3/Urban Barbarian:2

HP: Average 7 + 2 con =9
Skills:
Acrobatics+1, Intimidate +1, Sense Motive +2, and Perception +2.
+1 BAB, +1 Fort.
Gained Uncanny Dodge and rage power(animal fury).
Gained Feat: Dazzling Display.

Male Dwarf(Ouat Caste) Monk of the Four Winds/5

After great deliberation,
Feat - Snake Style.

If anyone has any thoughts about this, let me know. I think that I am all updated.

Male Dwarf(Ouat Caste) Monk of the Four Winds/5

As a note, I will be away from home for the next week. Should be able to post in the morning and evening, but there are no guarantees. If I miss a day and am holding something up, please have someone post for me. I doubt I will miss a day, but one never knows being in the road.

I'mnot sure how, but I completely missed the 1500g writ thing. O.o

Sorry about that.

M Half Orc Druid 5 (Feral Warrior)

Shopping list
Pearl of Power 1: 1000gp

I can't think of much else in that price range that would be useful that I don't already have. I'm open to suggestions.

Lantern Lodge

Half-Elf Inquisitive 2/ Seeker 3

Great.. money with which to improve... Considering Cassadar hasn't really wanted for anything (save a set of local clothes, so he doesn't stand out so much). Hrm.. Ornamentation? Practical, yet functional. Metal Bracers? Bag of Gems?

Male Dwarf(Ouat Caste) Monk of the Four Winds/5

I want a ring that will make me big an strong and covered in unruly hair just like my hero Torgus.

I have not had the time to think about new magic items this week. Hopefully over the weekend I will have more time.

Primordial Ooze

Just a note - had today off work and hence the lackage of posts. Weekends being weekends with chidlets makes it hard to get a decent post in also. It will improve over time, but at present my evenings are curtailed with the amusement of one that does not sleep much.

So apologies, update will be incoming as soon as able - but might not be until later this weekend.

No problem, Voice.

one question. How much time do we have until the Survival event? I was thinking about attempting to craft some poisons. But obviously time is a major factor there.

Hey, just a heads up. My wife is about to burst with pregnancy. So if my posting becomes suddenly erratic or sporadic, that's probably what's up.

If it holds up the game, feel free to play me however is needed. I'll try to give a more specific heads up when it happens, though.

Just make sure that she know she has to schedule the whole labor thing around your regular posting times. I am sure that will win you brownie points.

Lol. The support is appreciated, guys. :D

Were not quite there yet; i just didn't want you guys to wonder when it does.

Male Dwarf(Ouat Caste) Monk of the Four Winds/5

All I know is that if you start to tweet play by play updates, Frakdar will decide that the breach of etiquette is so severe that only elimination of you from reality is a sufficient punishment.

Ha! I consider myself warned.

Primordial Ooze

Javi - enjoy your sleep now more than anything else, as you ain't gonna get as much once she pops :P Best of luck for everything though, and no issues if your posting suffers.

You've got a few days yet until the survival event - next step is a set of three bouts against the other houses.

Lantern Lodge

Half-Elf Inquisitive 2/ Seeker 3

Can I swap out a feat, provided Cassadar hasn't used it yet?

I picked up Spring Attack, but that does not really suit his motif. May I sub it for Sidestep?

Primordial Ooze

Sure - no problems Me'mori.

Hey, Voice, I have a question about gear.

in the more non-traditional style games, what are the general attitudes (as well as strict rules) about weapons and tactics?

Basically, should i be looking to pick up a longbow? Or do I need to stick to more "martial arts" stuff?

EDIT Also, what is the rules/expectations on food resources? Should we be expected to find/hunt/scavenge for food? Or can we bring in rations? Or is it only supposed to last for a short time? (so food shouldn't be an issue?)

Primordial Ooze

I find tracking food a bit of a bore - so I'll be handwaving that to a large extent.

The rules will be pretty laissez faire, or anything goes - so grab a longbow if you like. You won't be frowned upon or penalized for it.

Plus I can make good berries as needed.

My purchases. I went ahead and sprung for the group to have a Wand of CLW... figured it might be a life-saver (or group-saver) in the survival game.

I didn't have the gold for any decent amount of poisons, and I don't see that Javi has time to craft any poison. So that'll have to wait.

purchases:
Wand of CLW 50 charges CL1 (750)
Potion of Reduce Person CL1 x4 (200)
Potion of CLW CL1 x2 (100)

Shortbow (30)
Arrows 20 (1)
Blunt Arrows 20 (2)

Mwk Thieve's Tools (50)

Tanglefoot Bag x2 (100)
Antitoxin (50)

Gold: 222

Male Dwarf(Ouat Caste) Monk of the Four Winds/5

Should be 150 each, no reason for you to be paying for this. Once everyone agrees, add 600 back to your money and we should each deduct 150 apiece.
