Maria the Great |
Maria takes the facemask and wraps it around the shaft and pulls it from the hand of the statue. Who wants the potentially cursed and or poisoned ranseur?
Helgarr |
"Unless it somehow bears a curse, or any other foul magic, a weapon is a weapon" - Helgarr snorts - "Ali, Vandra, Cleo? Do you detect any magic about it?"
Alandrian Verium |
ALi shrugs and calls forth the runes of identification and finding, before casting his hand over the object, waiting to see what he can find out.
Cast Detect Magic
Vandra Geaux |
Vandra took one look at the wicked weapon and shook his head. "While I do use a shortspear, a weapon like that is way out of my utility," he said. "Helgarr or Azeri would probably be good with it, though."
Cleo Gingerberry |
religion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22 looks familiar... Cleo tries to remember if any gods had that particular visage.
Helgarr |
"Ok then" - Helgarr moves to retrieve the ranseur, swinging it once or twice for good measure.
Craft (Weapons) to check its overall state or specific identifying traits?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
DM TreasureFox |
That's a nice check, hope to see that in the future.
With the ivory and sparkling metal (super polished steel), the ranseur is worth 400gp. It has no other specific traits different from a masterwork ranseur.
Cleo does not recognize the face of the fierce woman. Furthermore, no god favours the ranseur, though Shelyn does favour the glaive.
Maria the Great |
Maria follows after Furnok once Helgar takes the weapon.

The tunnel widens here into what appears to have once been a small shrine, for to the northeast, steps lead up to a platform of gray stone. Sitting atop the platform is an ancient altar, little more than a jagged block of black marble with a shallow concavity on top of it. This basin is filled with what appears to be filthy water. Two large doors made of old oak bar the entrance to what can only be assumed to be a large room.
Helgarr |
"Any magic around, friends?" - Helgarr growls.
Maria the Great |
Maria moves towards the doors looking for signs of traps, vaguely raised cobblestones depressions, unusual gives to the floor.
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
DM TreasureFox |
Maria does not find any traps, nor hazards. However, Vandra can sense moderately powerful magic coming from the altar.
K.Arcana: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

He senses Conjuration magic seeping through the altar into the basin of filthy water, which he discovers is a more powerful form of Unholy Water, called Waters of Maddening (religious folk would call it Waters of Lamashtu). Vandra knows that drinking this water would ravage a person's mind and body in horrific ways.
Vandra Geaux |
"Don't touch anything!" Vandra exclaimed in a panic. "The alter is probably used to conjure something from the depths of Lamashtu's realm, and the water would bring about something worse than death. It'll warp your mind and body and turn you into a monster..."
Helgarr |
"Thank you Vandra" - Helgarr retorts, immediately falling into a defensive stance and staring around the room - "Cleo?" - she turns around waiting for an input from her companion - "Any ideas?"
Maria the Great |
Maybe she could bless the water? Maria says offering her aid.
Helgarr |
Helgarr listens at the doors.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Cleo Gingerberry |
Apparently Cleo was lost in thought, maybe imagining all the horrors lurking in every shadow. Yes? she jumps at Helgarr's question oh ick
um something: 1d20 ⇒ 5 assuming religion which would be +6. I personally have no idea what she could do, but unless that roll tells her it won't work, she'll try blessing the water with a bless spell. Mechanically it makes no sense but Cleo isn't very mechanically inclined.
Cleo Gingerberry |
Cleo bows her head in prayer and tries casting a bless spell. You all feel the comforting hand of her deity if nothing else.
Helgarr |
"I am getting the doors" - Helgarr informs her companions, weapon in hand, and smiling as she feels the blessing emanating from Cleo.
When everyone is ready, I'll open the doors.
Maria the Great |
Maria looks at all of you before getting down on the floor and looking through the crack.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Azerienzal |
Ali and Azeri form up with the group, Ali to the middle, Azeri striding forward to back up Helgarr.
"The kid means good," the bearan mutters to the Barbarian, leaning in to reposition a strap on her Armor before putting her on the shoulder. "He is just working through almost losing the last person he thinks of as family. Give him time!"
Helgarr |
"Believe me I understand Azeri" - Helgarr nods back at the massive bear - "I have no love for goblins, and will not hesitate in taking their lives if needed. Executing a fallen, defeated and captured opponent is different though" - she shakes her head - "It would begin to change him, into something I don't think he wants to be"
DM TreasureFox |
This huge room looks like nothing more than an immense underground cathedral. Stone doors stand to either side of the main entrance, but beyond this, the walls are carved with strange, spiky runes. In the center of the room is a large pool, with a ring of polished human skulls balanced on stone spikes arranged in a circle around the deeper midsection. At the far end of the room, a pair of stone stairways leads up to a pulpit on which sits a second pool, this one triangular and filled with churning, bubbling water that looks almost like translucent lava. Yet while wisps of what look like heat and steam rise from the strange orange liquid, the room itself is deathly cold. Hovering above the triangular pool is a tiny winged creature, with a thin and wiry body and ram horns curling back from it's head.
This creature is known as a Quasit. It is a minor demon typically used as a familiar. Although highly mobile and having multiple defenses, a Quasit tends to be very bad at dealing damage.
A higher K.Planes check will reveal more about their capabilities.
Helgarr |
"I'm gonna risk and say yes - looks like some sort of demon" / Helgarr pipes in, but waits for one of the others to offer any insight on what exactly they are looking at - "I mean, just the whole scenario...."
Cleo Gingerberry |
Demon, evil alter, yep
Helgarr |
Let's get this moving.
"Furnok is right" - Helgarr wades in, weapon leading, and roaring at the creature - "You have until I reach you to state your business and the purpose of this foul place!"
If Helgarr can reach the creature, she will hold her attack - if it does anything she would consider hostile - casting, trying to attack, shooting, etc - she will swing.

Damage if it hits: 2d4 + 7 ⇒ (1, 3) + 7 = 11
Vandra Geaux |
As the others took up position against the flying creature, Vandra and Jeaux made their way around the pool, trying to make heads or tails of the pool and alter.
Detect Magic on the area of the pool.

3. Quasit
4. Ali/Azeri, Helgarr
The team rushes into the temple as fast as possible with Helgarr and Furnok at the lead. Helgarr issues a warning to the creature, while Furnok covers her just in case. Vandra and Jeaux take a step forward to examine the pool, with Vandra casting Detect Magic. He doesn't sense any magic coming from the pool. Meanwhile, Maria sheathes her dagger and draws her bow.
Cleo, Ali and Azeri can still take either a standard or move action as part of their surprise round.
Helgarr didn't have enough movement to make it all the way to the Quasit, but she can complete that (or change it if she want) when her turn comes up.
Furnok, Maria, and Cleo can take their 1st regular turn now, then the Quasit. Don't forget that everyone already has Bless.
