Question: Do you guys want Occult stuff included in the adventure path? The themes work quite well throughout Rise of the Runelords, but it also opens up all of the psychic classes and enemies.

I like the idea of Wabbit being from the same town as Cleo. And recently he has been doing caravan guard duty which brings him into town on occasion which makes him familiar with the Sheriff who he has helped out a time or two. Sorry for the delay twas a bit of paralysis by analysis with feat selection. If he is Ok I can put him into a proper pbp stat block. If you would prefer to go with an arcane character I completely understand


I'm thinking of taking some wizard levels myself because honestly, I've got the most important part of a Rogue. I might also start taking Bard levels and retraining not sure yet. Just know this next level will be rogue.

I had a bit of a nostalgia trip when making this.

Hello everyone! My dedicated party is looking for 1-2 new players who are interested in playing the second chapter of Rise of the Runelords, The Skinsaw Murders. You do not need to have played through chapter one in order to apply, we're just looking for kind, fun, and reliable folks!

This adventure is very much a power fantasy, but you will be slaying your way through some very dark and potentially disturbing environments and/or circumstances. Player discretion is advised.

Character Creation:

Level 4
Max hp for level 1-3, then half+1 for level 4

20 point buy
Final ability scores no higher than 18, and no lower than 8

6,000gp for all classes. You cannot spend more than half on a single item

1 Trait + 1 Campaign Trait, no drawbacks

Core races are preferred (but not mandatory), non-RP alternative racial traits are fine (but please document them), no custom races please

No evil alignments, CN must be willing to work as a group

Core, base, alternative, hybrid, occult, and unchained classes are allowed. No 3pp, no playtests, no path of war or psionics please

Background skills from unchained are allowed.
Variant multiclassing is allowed.
Stamina is free for Fighters, and is a feat for any other class.
Characters can get skill unlocks as a feat.

How I plan to run the game:

I reserve the right to...
Change aspects of the Adventure Path, though I will not change the core story
Roll the player's initiative
Kill PCs and NPCs
Award PCs with bonuses and items that are not found in any rulebook
Tweak/rewrite enemy abilities
DMPC your character if you've been absent for a long period of time

Level ups will be done after completing a milestone, usually after a night's rest.

There will be different ways to accomplish an "encounter", be it by combat, diplomacy, intrigue, sneaking, etc.

I plan to have traps, poisons, diseases, puzzles, etc to further enhance the game beyond "I kill all the things!"

We have nothing against optimized characters, but please note that the story has always been more important than character builds. Having some personality and/or mechanical flaws would be appreciated.

Metagaming, spoilers, harassing players, and verbal abuse are all serious offenses. Please play respectfully.

Please include in your application...

At least 1 paragraph detailing your character's recent life, along with their goals and interests. It's okay if you want to use point form for this.
A reason why Sheriff Hemlock of the village of Sandpoint has reached out to you, in hopes that you will come help investigate a murder.
Posting expectation is 1/week minimum. We are a fairly slow game, but I still expect people to contribute.

Recruitment will go on until the 17th of December.

- A shoanti human barbarian

- A taldan human rogue
- A halfling dodge tank of various multiclasses

- Someone with the K. Arcana skill

This is not for PFS

Guns are in the emerging stage, so they are full price

There will be some time for crafting, professions, artistry, and performances. Usually at the end of a chapter.

I am a Canadian man who has run games for roughly 5 years. I am experienced with the Pathfinder, 5E D&D, and Open Legend systems. These games have been my passion ever since I discovered them, and I always aspire to improve to be the best DM I can become.

Ready through the 'Story So Far' a couple days back before going on vacations - it is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks man.

Regarding Occult - I know close to zero about it, so can't really offer an educated opinion. It seems to allow some crazy shennanigans, but then again that's not different from the rest of Pathfinder. If you think it fits nicely Fox, I'll trust your judgement. Not sure I am a big fan of classic horror, but I am definitely a fan of dark, grim, sad tales.

--I'm sorry...I just CAN'T help myself! The good news is that even with all this multiclassing Wabbits DPR will be WAY less than Helgarr or Maria. What he WILL do is invade the Baddies space providing flanking for Maria and make it harder for them to hit Helgarr or Maria as Wabbit dances between their legs trying to poke some sensitive parts.

I'm still not sure about my character though.
I see that you probably need some sort of an arcane caster but I am an arcanist in another game I'm playing so I was thinking of something different, maybe a witch?

What do you guys think? I'll probably be able to cover the knowledges part, even if they are cross class

Otherwise... maybe investigator for the skills or psychic for the weird factor?

I've never played Rise of the Runelords so I don't know if there's one that is better than the others

Thanks for your trust, Helgarr. If it helps, I plan to make Occult more of a side flavour than a full course. You will definitely have plenty of dark, grim, and sad tales. While psionic casting is different, there are still counters to it (usually in things like fear effects), and the spells they use are mostly utilitarian rather than damage-focused. I think it will add another layer to round out our game, but if things do go crazy I will not hesitate to reel the PC back in.

Yes isn't it incredible that we've been playing for two and a half years? The dedication each of us have had is inspiring. Thanks again for sticking with us.

Loot list has been updated and added to all the other links. I highly recommend that you take a day to liquidate all the junk, identify anything that Cleo hasn't found any success with, and buy any gear that you want. You can't kill enemies by throwing gold pieces at them. ^^

Okay Loot List! I moved all the things that had notes about potentially taking up to the top, then a section on stuff to identify, then the rest would be up for sale. Double check me please. Maria the dogslicer you mentioned wanting it small sized in case you didn't notice.

Also didn't we find a magic sword. Looking... looooking.... yes!

"This spiky, smoking red longsword functions as a +1 Longsword.
As long as the sword is being wielded (not worn), the user gains 5 resistance to fire damage.
Once per day, the longsword can be commanded to erupt into flame and upon a successful melee attack, deliver a Touch of Combustion spell in addition to the regular damage delivered (although, the user could use a touch attack to deliver only the spell). The command word is ghâsh. After the attack has been delivered, the longsword loses it's smokey red coloration and turns to a dark ash color until the next day."

I added it to the weapons section if that is okay Treasure. I think Ali had it so I understand if you decide he left with it.

Whatever we end up with money wise I think we need to invest in enchanting your weapons, Maria and Helgarr. That ghost battle was rough. If we have enough that is. Otherwise keep the red sword and short sword.

Normally I would say that Ali and Vandra's stuff would be off limits, but that is a fun (and powerful) sword. You guys can have it, and I'll reduce some of the wealth found later on to compensate.

Maria, I think your saves are the worst so you can have the cloak if you want. Halflings have excellent saves :)

With a full party again, Cleo will go cleric instead of ranger. More of you means, more of you to heal.

I was going to wait and see on the cloak. And as determined earlier with Treasurefox, in a medium creature's hand a dogslicer can be a dagger. It's what my current weapon is anyways. Though I need to double check two weapon fighting and figure out if it's worth it (which would also mean I'd need to get two weapon fighting.)

No, third day will need to be spent trying to find out anything anyone knows about Malfeshnekor. Maybe start with the guy in the book store, see if we can get the books translated. Cleo took a rank in linguistics, maybe she can study Thassilonian?

So previous youth are the two you picked up in the very beginning correct? Leaving two weapon fighting to be the feat from third level. Major magic is the thief ability you picked... don't you have minor magic as well?

I tried looking at your sheet Maria, but there are too many things I do not know mixed up in one place :P

But, you are Human and level 4, so that means three (3) feats, unless you took Combat Trick from Rogue, which could up the count to 4.

So guys,

I've got my witch almost done, it's a caster/debuffer with a few tricks. I was thinking of a creepy card reader with bone talismans and creepy rituals. "Da cards say tha' death is around da corner. Maybe it is ours, maybe not. But da spirits need company".

Just a few questions:
1) How do you want to treat extra spells known? Can I just buy scrolls and add them to my spellbook/deck?
2) Is the background too much? At one point I felt that I could write so much more but maybe I am going in a totally different direction of what you want

If everything's ok, I'll finish the equipment next


Since familiars can learn spells from scrolls for the witch I'd say you can learn new spells for the bharrrow deck. The flavor just needs changing.

Like you use the study the scroll to see new connections in the deck to make a new spell available.

Feel free to write as much as you like. I love what I'm hearing.

Stats look good, but I'm pretty sure your languages are a bit off. The only 'fiendish' languages are Abyssal (demons) and Infernal (devils). Also, I'm pretty sure your Scholar of the Ancients trait gives you Thassilonian, the language of the ancient humans.

I just had a thought. There's an NPC in Sandpoint that the players haven't encountered. As written, Risa Magravi is a very old storyteller who owns a small tavern called Risa's place. She is a very mysterious figure who divines people's fortunes. She leaves the day to day stuff for her three adult children.

What we could do is change Risa to your character's mother and make her a full-blown fortune-teller. Your character could be one of the three adult kids. The rest of your background is unchanged.

Is that of interest to you?

Ok, so loot selling thus far looks good - I'm not sure how exactly we will split it, but assuming it costs 2300 gold to upgrade a weapon to +1, or 2000 if already Masterwork, our shares should probably cut it. After first pass with Weapons and Armor, we seem to be at 7413.7 gold total.

We also need to take into account getting another wand of CLW, etc - how are we on that front Cleo?

48 charges in the current wand, so no worries. Plus some potions.


I gotta rework Maria when I get home then I'll do that. Changed my mind about going rogue this level and am going wizard so I can progress towards arcane trickster.

Second day of purchasing, I'd like for Cleo to buy the Mwk Chain Shirt listed at Savah's Armory, if it can be small of course. Plus a light crossbow, 20 bolts, and long spear for Aggah. She'll get Cleo's mwk studded leather for armor.

125 gold for chain shirt (50% off)
17.5 gold for crossbow (50% off)
2 gold for bolts
2.5 gold for spear (50% off)

If the chain shirt could come out of the party haul, I'd appreciate that. The rest she can cover for Aggah. I think you and Maria should enchant weapons first. That will put us at betwen 4000 and 4600 spent. Or if Maria would rather get a ring of protection since she is becoming magical now :) same amount really.

Or she could go with no possibility of catching anyone in a foot race and just buy a small breastplate. It would put her up to a 20ac or 21 when using her buckler. Helgarr would have to carry her though if we have to run away again.

Cleo, as far as the purchasing goes, it sounds solid to me - just let me finish the selling and we can tally the final values for each one of us?

As for the weapon enchant, I'm just thinking whether we should go the straightforward way, and keep the magical weapons we come across by chance, or go through the process required to enchant other, different ones which we may prefer for some reason. What do you think?

I have no issues in carrying Cleo if we need to run, by the way :D I'm just not buying that breastplate because I only plan to dip Fighter next level, so no proficiency sucks for now.

Sure, though Cleo's purchasing will be a drop in the bucket compared to you and Maria, I think.

Appraise the last stuff
Identify the remaining items
Decide what to do with the rest (you've sold the armor and weapons already, correct?)
Meet and assimalate our new party members.

Anything else?

Treasure do you want us to roleplay through the days or make summary posts to continue quicker, at least to get us to the last one so Brelin and Wabbit aren't waiting on us.
