Stabbing monsters in the face since 2014 - Roll20 Map

Sorry, but nope. XD Its FF is 16. That said, its HP still wasn't high enough to survive... 200 XP each, and you're close to leveling!

Before the creature could swing, it had already fallen from the combination of Elliomander and Cythraul's attacks. That was about as nice as a battle could possibly have gone... and this room actually did have some treasure in it, including: 1 pp, 40 gp, a Potion of Blur (300 gp), a Potion of Magic Fang (50 gp), and a Scroll of Heat Metal (150 gp).

This hallway has been cleared, and there are only a few more rooms to go before you're finally able to break free of this place... and restock on your supplies.

Female Tiefling Phantom Blade | HP: 11 | AC: 17, T: 13, FF: 14 | Fort: +4, Ref: +3, Will: +5 | BAB: +0, CMB: +1, CMD: 14 | Init: +3 | Perception: +6 |

Backtracking to the previously explored cleared room, Cythraul inspects the unopened eastern door.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Fighter/Investigator [gestalt] 1

While Cyth moves to check the next door, Elliomander packs the newest spoils into his pack with the others.

This door is a simple wooden one that slides to the side instead of opening out on a hinge, but it's unlocked and apparently untrapped. According to the map, the passage beyond it is an open archway, so you won't be able to easily hide your approach once you head forward.

Fighter/Investigator [gestalt] 1

Catching up to Jason and Cyth, Elliomander asks, "Shall we go in... and how? We could rush in ready to fight and risk triggering a trap, we could move in carefully and risk an ambush, or we could use the vanish scroll we found earlier and one of us could take a quick look ahead?"

Female Tiefling Phantom Blade | HP: 11 | AC: 17, T: 13, FF: 14 | Fort: +4, Ref: +3, Will: +5 | BAB: +0, CMB: +1, CMD: 14 | Init: +3 | Perception: +6 |

We should move in, in an organized manner. I doubt that scroll will last longer than it takes to open the door.

Only a 1 round duration on the scroll.

Fighter/Investigator [gestalt] 1

"Very well, I'll open the door... Jason can head through first to search as we move... Cyth, you follow him and I'll cover the rear." Elliomander pauses to allow for objections and when Jason is ready he opens the door as quietly as he can.

Within the chamber up ahead is a figure similar to one you fought earlier in the halls of this place - a Morlock, armed with a large club and sniffing carefully around as it paces through the room. On the other side of the room, across from the creature, you can see a bottle, several precious stones, and a small mound of coins.

Fighter/Investigator [gestalt] 1

i'm last in line... Jason, is up to you if you want to approach cautiously or charge it (unless Cyth wants to rush past you to attack, lol)

Female Tiefling Phantom Blade | HP: 11 | AC: 17, T: 13, FF: 14 | Fort: +4, Ref: +3, Will: +5 | BAB: +0, CMB: +1, CMD: 14 | Init: +3 | Perception: +6 |

Seeing the morlock standing before the treasure, Cythraul smiles as she move in to engage the creature. Looks like we finally get paid.

Rhoka: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 for 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Confirm: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16 for 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Fighter/Investigator [gestalt] 1

Seeing Cyth rush past Jason, and check the corridor for traps the old-fashioned way, Elliomander seizes the opportunity to hopefully catch the morlock off-guard as well... he charges the creature swinging hard...

charge: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11, for: 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

he scowls sharply as his wild swing misses badly.

*Rolls initiative*

Cythraul's critical blow badly wounded the creature, and before it could raise its club to counter, Elliomander charged past... just barely managing to scrape its side. That was enough to drop the creature down, leaving the room free of enemies. A closer examination of the treasure pile reveals its actual contents - 8 gp, 90 sp, a Milky Quartz (50 gp), an Obsidian (8 gp), a Tigereye (8 gp), and a Potion of Shield of Faith (50 gp).

Going by the map, it looks like there are only two rooms left, way over on the eastern side - and since one can only be accessed by the other, there are no worries about figuring out which one to visit first.

His Flat-Footed AC was 11. XD Also, 200 XP.

Male Stormborn Sorcerer 3 / Flowing Monk 3 (Archmage T1) | HP: 27/27 | Spells: 5/6 | Mythic Power: 5/5 | AC: 19, T: 15, FF: 17 | Fort: +3, Ref: +5, Will: +6 | BAB: +2, CMB: +5, CMD: 20 | Init: +4 | Perception: +10 | Concentration +8 | Load: 37.5 (Light: 58) | Effects: Mage Armor

Wow, I log in as soon as the power outage is done (3 bad, bad days...) and the battle is already over. XD

Well... that was easier than expected. Perhaps greater danger still lies ahead.

Jason approaches the next doorway to the east and looks over it for traps before proceeding.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26

Fighter/Investigator [gestalt] 1

"Jason," Elliomander calls out, "I applaud your enthusiasm, and thoroughness, but that passageway leads back to the southern portion of the dungeon... we need to backtrack a room and take the northeast door in there."

The grim young man speaks frankly but with no sign of mockery or derision. As he speaks he loads the treasure into what must by now be a fairly heavy pack and readies himself to head out.

"Jason does make a good point though... I have no idea what to expect in place like this but back home this manner of dungeon likely would have had some type of leader, or at least alpha hunter, somewhere in it and we don't seem to have run across anything like that yet... perhaps it might be prudent to use a couple potions or scrolls to prepare ourselves in case such a thing is lurking in these last two chambers?"

Female Tiefling Phantom Blade | HP: 11 | AC: 17, T: 13, FF: 14 | Fort: +4, Ref: +3, Will: +5 | BAB: +0, CMB: +1, CMD: 14 | Init: +3 | Perception: +6 |

I've held a few tricks in reserve, just in case.

Female Tiefling Phantom Blade | HP: 11 | AC: 17, T: 13, FF: 14 | Fort: +4, Ref: +3, Will: +5 | BAB: +0, CMB: +1, CMD: 14 | Init: +3 | Perception: +6 |

Heading towards the last unexplored rooms, Cythraul moves slowly and carefully, checking for traps as she proceeds.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

At the last corner before reaching the chambers ahead, you see a faint crackling on the floor - one of the tiles up ahead seems to be trapped with something magic-based, and you'll need to be careful about how you maneuver if you aren't going to try disabling it.

Fighter/Investigator [gestalt] 1

sorry for the low post rate of late... partly i was trying not to get too far ahead of Jason (it looks like he's only posted about 1 time so far this month), but a lot of it has also been that i've just been swamped with work and family stuff and what not.

Elliomander cracked his knuckles and then his neck before letting out a long, slow breath and approaching the trap... he had run afoul of magical traps before and knew that his odds of success were much lower (and the cost of failure potentially much greater) than with mundane traps. He cautiously draws his tools. kneels beside the trap, and goes to work...

disable device: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18

Male Stormborn Sorcerer 3 / Flowing Monk 3 (Archmage T1) | HP: 27/27 | Spells: 5/6 | Mythic Power: 5/5 | AC: 19, T: 15, FF: 17 | Fort: +3, Ref: +5, Will: +6 | BAB: +2, CMB: +5, CMD: 20 | Init: +4 | Perception: +10 | Concentration +8 | Load: 37.5 (Light: 58) | Effects: Mage Armor

Sorry for the slow post rate too. My time in front of the computer this month is so much less than expected...

Jason follows Elliomander closely behind but steps back a few feet when he saw him try to disable the trap. Hopefully his deft fingers will avoid getting them all hurt.

The trap sparks a bit, but isn't disabled after the attempt to shut it down. On the bright side, it didn't actually go off, either, so at least you're not in active danger yet.

Fighter/Investigator [gestalt] 1

"Well," Elliomander says with a frown, "I can't disarm it... most magical traps take a moment to reset themselves... if we go back and grab what's left of that morlock, we could toss him on the trap then run across before it finishes resetting... of course, if the trap bursts 20 or 30 feet we'd all be injured by it anyways, but I can't think of any better options..."

Male Stormborn Sorcerer 3 / Flowing Monk 3 (Archmage T1) | HP: 27/27 | Spells: 5/6 | Mythic Power: 5/5 | AC: 19, T: 15, FF: 17 | Fort: +3, Ref: +5, Will: +6 | BAB: +2, CMB: +5, CMD: 20 | Init: +4 | Perception: +10 | Concentration +8 | Load: 37.5 (Light: 58) | Effects: Mage Armor

Let's do that. We should avoid getting hurt if possible. Jason backtracks and drags the murlock to the trap area before lifting it overhead and throwing it at the trap.

Electricity crackled viciously through the air as the other creature's body landed on top of the tile - and continued to rise up through the two tiles on either side, turning them into a scorched mess before the magical trap faded away. There was no sign that it had reset itself - magical traps often didn't, and that left the way forward to the next room clear.

Blocking the way was a simple wooden door - unlocked, apparently untrapped, but thin enough that you could hear a few things moving around inside.

Female Tiefling Phantom Blade | HP: 11 | AC: 17, T: 13, FF: 14 | Fort: +4, Ref: +3, Will: +5 | BAB: +0, CMB: +1, CMD: 14 | Init: +3 | Perception: +6 |

Calling upon her remaining power, Cythraul gathers shadows around her blade as she inspects the door for traps.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

+1 Rhoka

AFK for the next week, will return from vacation on the 29th.

Fighter/Investigator [gestalt] 1

"Are you sure you don't want to use any of these potions or anything," Elliomander whispers, "we've got blur and shield of faith... either could prove useful if there are a number of attackers in there..."

i can keep posting if the plan is to APC Cyth through combat, but this next week is gonna be super busy for me as well, so if a hiatus until the 29th seems better I have no objections to it

All things considered... yeah, everyone sounds a bit busy at the moment. XD Let's call a short hiatus for now, and we'll pick up when at least two of you have posted in the OOC thread, noting that you're ready to continue.

Fighter/Investigator [gestalt] 1

Elliomander cocks an eyebrow at his companion's apparent disinterest in using any of the materials they've discovered along the way. He quickly imbibes the potion of shield of faith, signals Cyth and Jason to ready themselves, throws open the door, and, looking inside, readies his glaive to 'welcome' anything foolish enough to come at him...

AC now 19/t15/ff16 with the deflection bonus

Inside the room are five kobolds (located in a loose circle in the center of the chamber), and they send up a dreadful howl as they spot the intruders. Of course, they weren't the fastest creatures around...

Initiative (Enemy): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Initiative (Cythraul): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Initiative (Elliomander): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Initiative (Jason): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

...and none of them were fast enough to act quicker than the warriors who had just barged into their chamber.

Fighter/Investigator [gestalt] 1

Well... That's a bit of a let down really... Elliomander thinks spotting another bunch of the frail kobolds. He moves into the room and takes a position away from the open archway where he can attack one creature and the others will have to move more than 5' to reach him.

non power attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25, for: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Female Tiefling Phantom Blade | HP: 11 | AC: 17, T: 13, FF: 14 | Fort: +4, Ref: +3, Will: +5 | BAB: +0, CMB: +1, CMD: 14 | Init: +3 | Perception: +6 |

Following closely behind Elliomander, Cytraul moves to dispatch a second kobold, her shadowed blade reaching to its victims throat.

move, attack

Rhoka: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 for 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

The two kobolds were slaughtered all but instantly by the force of the blows, and Jason moved in a moment later to kick out at one of the remaining beasts. (GM'ing him for now.)

Unarmed Strike: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 for Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

It, too, found its body crushed under the force of the blow, and the two remaining Kobolds lunged at him in an attempt to batter the sorcerous monk down with stabbing blows from their spears.

Melee Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Melee Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20 for Damage: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0 Heh. XD Now I feel less bad about having them target someone who's not currently here.

Only one of the little beasts managed to strike, but its blow was pathetically weak, unable to so much as scratch Jason despite the surprisingly high accuracy of the blow.

Fighter/Investigator [gestalt] 1

i could be remembering from earlier editions but I think an attack that does 1dX-whatever has a minimum damage of 1 (before any DR or anything)

Fighter/Investigator [gestalt] 1

Elliomander observes the closer kobold as it charges and attacks Jason studied target then shifts into range of it and brings his glaive down heavy on it...

attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
for: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

That's 3.5. In Pathfinder, less than one point of damage due to penalties becomes 1 point of nonlethal damage. XD So, technically, I suppose Jason would have that now...

Male Stormborn Sorcerer 3 / Flowing Monk 3 (Archmage T1) | HP: 27/27 | Spells: 5/6 | Mythic Power: 5/5 | AC: 19, T: 15, FF: 17 | Fort: +3, Ref: +5, Will: +6 | BAB: +2, CMB: +5, CMD: 20 | Init: +4 | Perception: +10 | Concentration +8 | Load: 37.5 (Light: 58) | Effects: Mage Armor

Jason brushes aside the feeble attack of the kobold and leans to the side to allow Elliomander's brutal attack through as he aims a couple of fast blow against the last one unfazed.

Flurry 1 attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15 | Dmg: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Flurry 2 attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 | Dmg: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Female Tiefling Phantom Blade | HP: 11 | AC: 17, T: 13, FF: 14 | Fort: +4, Ref: +3, Will: +5 | BAB: +0, CMB: +1, CMD: 14 | Init: +3 | Perception: +6 |

With her initial target down, Cythraul steps up towards the remaining kobold, skewering the creature on the points of her blades.

Rhoka: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21 for 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

200 XP each.

As Cythraul and Elliomander attacked, the last of the Kobolds fell, leaving the room cleared of enemies. In a pile on the far wall were the items they'd collected - 19 gp, 100 sp, an Oil of Arcane Mark, a Potion of Ant Haul, a Potion of Cure Light Wounds, a Potion of Invigorate, a Scroll of Mage Armor, and a Scroll of Read Magic.

There were multiple ways of getting to the last chamber, but the easiest was probably just going through the open archway on the eastern wall.

Fighter/Investigator [gestalt] 1

Elliomander gathers up the valuables and stows them in his backpack. on my phone- will update list later

"Perhaps I've grown paranoid, but this seems too simple" he mutters approaching the open archway and scrutinizing it... cast detect magic and search

perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

Female Tiefling Phantom Blade | HP: 11 | AC: 17, T: 13, FF: 14 | Fort: +4, Ref: +3, Will: +5 | BAB: +0, CMB: +1, CMD: 14 | Init: +3 | Perception: +6 |

Cythraul approaches behind Elliomander, peering through the open archway.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Male Stormborn Sorcerer 3 / Flowing Monk 3 (Archmage T1) | HP: 27/27 | Spells: 5/6 | Mythic Power: 5/5 | AC: 19, T: 15, FF: 17 | Fort: +3, Ref: +5, Will: +6 | BAB: +2, CMB: +5, CMD: 20 | Init: +4 | Perception: +10 | Concentration +8 | Load: 37.5 (Light: 58) | Effects: Mage Armor

Who knows... there does not seem to be any logic as to why these creatures are here, but it's best not to be caught unawares. Jason edges along the opposite wall before peeping around the archway to the next room.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

There doesn't seem to be anything in the next chamber - no monsters, no treasures, and no traps (magical or otherwise) on the door or within the room. It's... a bit of a letdown, actually, though it is true that this place seems to follow the strangest rules of design. It simply is what it is.

Fighter/Investigator [gestalt] 1

"Well... that's odd..." Elliomander reflects... "not only was this anti-climactic but this is the final chamber... based on our assignment I was sort of expecting a portal to open up in here or something so we could return to our new home..."

He looks around for another moment, still perplexed... "I don't detect any magical auras, but just to be safe perhaps we should try entering the room from a different path in case this archway is somehow enchanted..."

After so considering the situation, he passes through the other archway and watchfully follows the long path to the actual door in the back of the room and enters through it...

perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

we're less than 200 xp from leveling, so we better hope we can find one more enemy... otherwise we're gonna have to turn on each other in order to level during the down time...

As Elliomander steps into the chamber, there's a loud rumble from the floor, and several panels peel apart to reveal a staircase leading downwards. At the bottom is a warm, inviting light - and it looks rather like the place you were at before you stepped into this dungeon. It's also the only thing you've seen that looks even vaguely like an exit...

Congratulations on clearing your first dungeon! Upon exiting - yes, that's the real exit, don't worry - you'll have reached Level 3. Please post your upgrades in the Discussion Thread for review, and you're free to divide your treasure, sell off anything you don't want per normal rules, buy anything you can afford, and make any preparations you want to before your next excursion.

Fighter/Investigator [gestalt] 1

Yay!

This was not, however, the only thing of interest. As you peered into the depths of the stairs, crystalline shards shot in from the walls, gathering in the center of the room to form a long, jagged shape that promptly detonated. Laughter sounded in your ears as power rushed into your bodies, filling you with a power unlike any you've experienced before... though why you've been given this power is a question yet unanswered.

Congratulations on reaching Mythic Tier 1! If you have questions about these rules, feel free to ask them in the Discussion thread. ^^

After a period of rest, you step into the next doorway that appears. The halls of this dungeon are made of superior masonry (Climb DC 25), the floor is made of flagstones, and the air is cool. The corridors are a bit shadowy, but magical light fills the place - it doesn't seem like it will be too hard to see as you make your way forward.

Female Tiefling Phantom Blade | HP: 11 | AC: 17, T: 13, FF: 14 | Fort: +4, Ref: +3, Will: +5 | BAB: +0, CMB: +1, CMD: 14 | Init: +3 | Perception: +6 |

Stepping into the new dungeon, Cythraul nods as she assesses the situation. 22 rooms. Do we want to move clockwise or counter clockwise?

Mage Armor

Male Stormborn Sorcerer 3 / Flowing Monk 3 (Archmage T1) | HP: 27/27 | Spells: 5/6 | Mythic Power: 5/5 | AC: 19, T: 15, FF: 17 | Fort: +3, Ref: +5, Will: +6 | BAB: +2, CMB: +5, CMD: 20 | Init: +4 | Perception: +10 | Concentration +8 | Load: 37.5 (Light: 58) | Effects: Mage Armor

How high do we estimate the ceiling's height?

Jason tilts his head at Cyth before casting Mage Armor on himself as well. Since we don't know anything about this place, I guess either way is fine... Counter clockwise for me.

Fighter/Investigator [gestalt] 1

Elliomander studies the map for a moment, obviously trying to devise the most advantageous route, then unceremoniously jams it in his pack and says, "F#@k it, these dungeons have no rhyme nor reason... let's just pick a direction and go... " At Jason's suggestion of counter-clockwise, he moves forward past the 't' towards the door to the south eastern most room, carefully looking for traps or secret passageways...

perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17

Ceilings are ten feet high.

At the corner of the passage is a pit, about five feet deep, but there's no sign of a trap in this corridor, and you're able to move forward unmolested. The door in front of you is a stuck strong wooden door (break DC 23; hard 5, 20 hp), and it'll probably take some effort to get open - and, worse, make it so you can't sneak inside and catch any inhabitants by surprise.
