TowerOfTheHeavens |
The group travels for another hour before making camp, tired and worn from the day of travel.
The night passes without incident.
The following morning is overcast suggesting a possibility of rain and the terrain becomes more rocky. A little after noon you find yourself at the mouth of a wide canyon climbing into the mountains. Entering into the canyon will limit your movement to east or west. Massive boulders are strewn through the canyon and crags rise here and there at the edges of the canyon reducing your visibility into the rugged terrain.
Alma |
"Let's be mindful in this canyon, its an ideal location for an ambush. Markov, can you send your pet out to gives us eyes from above? Let's push forward, we must be close."
I assume I can do my LoH before sleeping.
LoH: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
LoH: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
LoH: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
LoH: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
LoH: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
LoH: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
TowerOfTheHeavens |
Everyone will be at full health at this point.
Talyn clips Alma's helmet, knocking it slightly askew, as he launches himself from Markov's shoulder. Other than a few scattered rain drops though the clouds remain and darkness comes earlier than normal. Despite the summer day the night is chilly.
The morning comes with clear skies and the group continues its journey higher up the canyon. Signs of other travelers are frequent and you come to a point where a path of sorts ascends along the eastern side against a steepening cliff face. The remainder of the canyon looks to be very rough terrain. A few marks in the dirt and broken and trampled plant life suggest something has recently traveled off the obvious path.
TowerOfTheHeavens |
Alma turns off away from the cliff path and leads the group off the well worn path into the brush. The going is tough. Whatever passed through this area took no care in hiding its passage though as the milky white sap of leaves oozes from broken steams and broken leaves lie on the ground.
The path goes on for maybe 15 minutes and already you are starting to sweat a bit from the exertion of pushing your way forward. The foliage parts a bit and before you lies two crumpled goblins, blood sprayed against the rocks where their corpses lie.
Irina Moretskya |
Early this morning, before breaking camp, Irina tells the others about the sounds of baying sick dogs she's heard two nights running.
As the group comes through the foliage and sees the goblins, Irina carefully bends down to examine the bodies, looking for clues of their deaths.
Heal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Alma |
"I realize that Goblins are not the strongest of beasts, but what could possibly do this? What could this white ooze be? Is it blood? If it bleeds, then we can kill it." Half chuckling to himself, "At least were not walking into a den of Red Dragons, since they don't have a white ooze for blood."
Wiping the sweat off his brow, Alma turns to Markov, "Has your pe.... um, your familiar seen anything up ahead?"
"Let's push on, but perhaps at a slower pace working over this rough terrain. We don't want to exhaust ourselves should we overtake whatever evil that has dispatched these goblins."
Markov Galan |
A small smile appears on his face at Alma catching his mistake.
"The ooze is sap from the plants and Talyn hasen't seen anything yet."
Markov looks around for any tracks near the bodies.
Perception:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
if he find any he tries to identify them.
Knowledge(nature):1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Talyn flies further off scaning the suronding area
TowerOfTheHeavens |
Talyn lifts into the air and begins circling over head, scanning the area for signs of other life.
In addition to those wounds one of the goblins has had both of its arms removed, the flesh at the shoulders torn forcibly.
TowerOfTheHeavens |
Alma begins pushing through the brush again. The terrain changes, becoming more rocky in places, while those areas where there is soil the growth becomes thicker and taller, coming above the knees. It doesn't take long though before all but Alma, who seems oblivious, realize there is no path here, and nothing has moved through this area in days.
TowerOfTheHeavens |
As you turn to make your way back a hoot from Talyn overhead draws your attention skyward a moment. At the same time two humanoid creatures rise up from the brush near the boulders, coming to a full height of 7 feet. Each holding a barbed javelin in one hand and a small shield in the other. They have the snout of a pig, and much of their bodies is covered in grimy fur. The fur is unkempt, sticking out in all directions. They wear crudely made leather armor and a bloodied morning star swings at their waists. A bit of blood dribbles from their mouths down to their necks. Tiny milk white eyes glare hatred.
One is located at BY33, the other is located at BT15 - map will be updated tonight as usual.
This is a surprise round. Markov may take a single action, then the creatures, then we move to normal rounds with the party acting before the creatures do.
None of you know what these creatures are.
TowerOfTheHeavens |
The creatures hurl their javelins, one at Markov and one at Irina.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Their aim is poor though and both javelins go wide.
Party may act
If exact order matters it is Warren, Irina, Alma, Markov.
Forgot to mention, the rocky ground is normal terrain, the ground with plants is rough terrain so cannot be charged through and cost double movement.
TowerOfTheHeavens |
Irina Moretskya |
Irina slogs forward through the weeds to T22, saying "He's too far away."
Instead of hexing the creature, she pulls out a vial of icky stuff, shakes it and hurls it at the creature.
Bomb touch attack: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 3 - 2 = 6
Miss direction: 1d8 ⇒ 3
It misses east (falls up short) and the throw was five feet short. I'm not sure if that means the creature is in the splash radius or not. If so, it needs a DC 15 Reflex save to avoid 6 fire damage and becoming entangled.
TowerOfTheHeavens |
The southern beast advances into the thick brush towards Markov BW31, pulling a second javelin off its back and hurling it at him.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Scoring a hit on the half-elf leaving him with a painful wound.
The other moves south to counter Warren BX13
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
But it's javelin is short of the mark.
TowerOfTheHeavens |
Markov throws another bomb at the beast.
Attack:d20+6
Misdirection:d8
but distracted by the pain he misses.
he then moves BS22.
where is talyn?
He could still be circling overhead, or he could have come down to land on your shoulder. If you want him to take an action he is close enough to do so.
Alma |
not sure if its my move yet, assuming it is, here goes my attack
Long Sword Attack: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (19) + 7 - 1 = 25
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (20) + 7 - 1 = 26
Damage: 2d8 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (4, 8) + 6 - 2 = 16
Not sure if my -1 for being semi fallen is counted twice on a crit, so I included it just in case.
TowerOfTheHeavens |
You can't attack Alma, its not adjacent to you.
Irina you could move to BX19, but because of the rough terrain it requires a double move - so doing a single move and begin casting.
Rough terrain prevents Warren from charging.
The creature blocks Warren's attack with its buckler, then counters with its morning star.
Move action to draw morning star, then attack.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Warren dodges the attack.
Pulling it's third, and last javelin, the other brute aims for Markov again.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
But the missile veers to the side, disappearing into the underbrush.
Party may act
GM Ascension |
The second flash of fire from Markov's bomb drops the creature as it is pushing its way through the brush, a tangle of leaves, branches and smoking fur. The splash from the bomb ignites some of the drier vegetation, quickly coming to a blaze.
Irina completes her spell and Alma grows in size, now flanking the creature.
The remaining brute leans back avoid Warren's slash, then counters with its morning star.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
With a scrape of metal on metal the weapon brushes against his armor.
Party may act
