Nimon - Thanks for signing me on. I took an interest to the recruitment as soon as I saw it and watched half of the first season of the show on Netflix to get me in the right mindset. I'm excited to see how this plays out :)
I'll admit - I don't really know the show. I just thought a Victorian milieu sounded fun. I think that might turn out to be an asset; since my PC doesn't know anything about Torchwood and is mostly ignorant about the paranormal, I should be able to portray that perfectly :)
I'm excited about this PbP. It's nice to see something a little unusual.
1879 was the creation of Torchwood One. It followed when Queen Victoria simultaneously knighted the Doctor and then declared him an enemy alien.
Relations betwen the various Torchwoods and the Doctor have generally varied from hostile to frosty, although the current leader of what's now known as Torchwood Three was working to change that.
I also want to mention, this campaign will take place after the episode "The Talons of Weng Chiang" which technically takes place closer to 1888 during the whitechaple murders. I have altered this slightly, but the whitechaple murders will have no impact on the campaign yet(Jack the ripper) since I do not want to alter true history too much.
There is also going to be Chinese Assasins, they will be refered to as Ninjas by some of the NPCs and I have them labled as such, but truly they are closer to a monk and I do know Ninja is a Japanese term. Just wanted to make that clear befor we start.
Does anyone want to be the Face of the Party? Has anyone specialised in Intimidation or Diplomacy or Sense Motive? I've not created Nimue that way, though maybe later I'll look at Alertness or Skill Focus Sense Motive if no-one else has much of a bonus there.
Have players questions that they want to ask these witnesses? Should we put them through the Party Face?

I can say that Sebastian isn't very good 'face' material. I think he is too eccentric excitable and OCD for many people to really have that pull to him. I gave him a trait bonus to sense motive but since he doesn't have a Wis modifier it won't be a surefire skill.
I'd like to gear him towards the Loremaster Prc. He'll serve as party diviner, crafter, transporter, kaboomer and general purpose utility mage.

Rohara has diplomacy (+8) and sense motive (+8) She also has a high perception (+9) Will have to remember to memorize a charm person... ;)
However we want to really... if your character would defer to a more diplomatic person in questioning. I am sure that questions will come up in the middle too, so I think it could be a nice mix of both.

Good, will do (in the future).

No worries. It's RPing... Just play your character how you think they would react in a given situation. As long as the character does not become an ass or the like (and I have had great people RP such characters) all goes well in the end. After all, even the worst diplomat will be in a situation where they will have to say convince someone to do something. Just because you are not good at it, does not mean you cannot do it. Combat, will not likely being Rohara's best thing, she will take a backseat and provide support.
Depends all on your style of roleplaying I suppose. Have fun and be sure others are having too, and we are all happy. :)
It is great that this discussion board is automatically set up for use. It will be good to air any issues here before they become problems. Also good for making plans etc.

I am concerned that Nimue is going to come off a bit unlikeable because of her speech - it is grating, I know. But, I'm not going to let her be a pain for other people.
Which reminds me, Tilnar, I am actually really enjoying Alasdair's speech, despite what Nimue thinks.

Jeffrey has good bluff, and I was planning on putting a rank in diplomacy next level. He can certainly do some of the talking, depending on the situation. (When addressing royalty or the like, someone of higher birth may make a better impression, etc.)

Also... if you want to help out, that is always good too. A nice aid or two can do wonders, especially when the dice roll badly.
Rohara's background:
Rough, but just thoughts I put to paper so to speak.
- was born to a young British noble who was in India as a son of a Lord who was part of those of the British rulers. The young man was fond of a young upper class Indian woman, while the two could never marry, they spent their time together and had a daughter.
- as a young girl she grew up with both her parents, her father when you could get away.
- when the conflict with the Indian people and their British rulers escalated the young noble sent the child and mother to England. There Rohara was given a proper education.
- In her later teens, Rohara returned to India and it was not long after, that those in the Hindu faith realized how special Rohara was. They gently coaxed her and she soon developed her divine gifts. Those who also had such gifts trained Rohara how best to use her gifts without drawing attention to herself or the faith in general.
- It was only a short time ago that Rohara felt a pull back to England. She packed and returned. Upon returning she learned that her father was now the Lord, and while he still had not married her mother, officially recognized her as his daughter.
- Sicne Rohara has been visiting the churches and temples and helping the good people of London as she is able. Never revealing too much of gifts, but enough to earn the trust of those she has helped.
That's my fifth 1 today from about 10 rolls on these boards today. I'm taking for the team, right? Everyone else will roll well now, right?

That is how it works sometimes. The joys of the ol'diebot.
Nimon. I wanted to say that I think it is pretty cool how you are running the game. (Different aliases for all the NPCs.) I am enjoying things.

How do you want to adjudicate flanking in combat? Is it based on whether it would be reasonable to flank that foe, etc? Or is there something more concrete?
Thanks Rohara. Good question Celestial, for play by post I base it on what is reasonable. In this case it is going to be hard to flank since you are in a hallway, but should you get behind an attacker you could flank. I would also allow readied actions, or held actions to flank a charging or advanced opponet, as long as you are not the target of the charge/attack.

Alasdair Cinàed(Male Human (Touched) Alchemist (Chirurgeon) 2 [Campaign Ended (Torchwod)])
Nimon, I'm going to need to have Alasdair flipped into NPC mode from Saturday the 22 to the 30th. Family vacation. Just giving plenty of warning (and not wanting to be dropped from the group -- or hold things up while you're waiting for me to post).
Also, OberonViking, in reference to the earlier message about Alasdair -- I totally confess I'm using an accent translator for it. But thanks. I figured it was a bit more immersive this way.
Just to add in case some of you missed the campaign tab, this is based on a real Dr Who episode from the Tom Baker years called The Talons of Weng Chiang. It is one of his best, and you can probably watch it free on the Daily Motion or simular site if you want to get some of these places in your mind as far as how they look ect. Now that you know both of the witness stories, it will not spoil anything.
Well my vote is for checking out the lab, at least quickly.
Rohara Acharya(HP 13 / 13 - AC 20 (T 12, FF 18) - F +2, R +2, W +5)
The lab might normally be a place to look over, I guess we would have to ask first I assume it was searched and the like by the Scotland Yard/the authorities. And if it still even there and not boxed up for evidence.
One way to do it would be the closest place and work our way to the others. We have a lab, a warehouse, and one of the attackers worked for a local laundry.
I am game for wherever first. I'm easy. ;)
Alasdair Cinàed(Male Human (Touched) Alchemist (Chirurgeon) 2 [Campaign Ended (Torchwod)])
My two cents:
The warehouse and lab seem like good targets -- but I'm also assuming that as the Torchwood gang, we're the best qualified to grok anything we find in a lab - between the alchemist, wizard and cleric -- and the fact that it was secret and the place the Doctor went is probably also significant. (And thus a strong starting point).
The laundry is a whole different matter -- and if it's a front, I don't imagine we want to have our whole group arrive bashing in the door, as it were -- probably best if we can take a look on the sly - probably first by sending someone in as a "customer" to take an initial look around, and then possibly by stealth -- since we know that it's still in operation and there'll be people there.
Sorry guys, with my AC and hp I should have nominated to stand up front. I was thinking that I was a squishy young girl with a bow, not a short fighter with armour and a dagger and bow.
Rohara Acharya(HP 13 / 13 - AC 20 (T 12, FF 18) - F +2, R +2, W +5)
No worries... Even Nimue would have taken that bite from the rat. GM just rolled well.
Rohara's AC is not bad, and could be better if I went all out with armor, but that would be odd, in the setting... hence only the light armor and small shield. Went more for something more fitting, over the best protection she could have.
Thanks! I really like the accents you and Alasdair mimick. Unfortunately I'm not native English so my Scottish will look pale compared to Alisdairs, but I hope to make that up with a funny yet credible character ;-)
