Warhammer Game Notes & Maps

The skeleton is not being controlled as far as I can tell. The rules for necromancy are seriously underdeveloped.

Angrboda's attack connects with the vampires spawn, rotting her necrotic flesh. The skeletal servant, now controlled by Evariel, dutifully attacks the other skeleton. The vampire spawn moves in to attack Evariel with fury in her eyes before moving away. "Kill the one I attacked!" shouts the vampire spawn.

GM Dice:

The vampire spawn provokes from your skeleton, Angrboda, Goran & Rilia. The other skeleton also provokes from Goran, though he'd need Combat Reflexes to take advantage of both.

Evariel's skeleton manages to hit its counterpart on its attack, but misses the spawn as she moves past. The vampire spawn and the skeleton both successfully hit Evariel with their attacks. 6 & 7 damage hits on Evariel.

Note: I'm checking on a detail about how to resolve Angrboda's spell. I'm applying the penalties for now, but it might suddenly recover. Also, remember your bonuses to hit and damage from Rilia's performance. None of it mattered this time, but it might in the future.

Agreed. I would love a splatbook dedicated to necromancers-- hopefully one that would explain these types of things.

Evariel tries not to cry out in pain as the uncontrolled skeleton and the vampire woman each draw his blood. "You'll pay for that." Switching his staff into his other hand, he reaches out toward her. The jewel in his ring flashes as he casts a spell. "Bow to me."

I looked into the Decompose Corpse spell from earlier Angrboda, and I'm fairly confident that the spawn gets a saving throw. She succeeded & so is suddenly not rotting.

Also, I've been forgetting, but Eniac can't attack undead without the second iteration of the Attack trick or a push. He's been missing anyway, though.

The vampire spawn is able to move unimpeded through your attacks as it strikes Evariel. Rilia's channel harms all of the undead slightly, though they each appear to resist the worst effects of her attack. Goran's Spiritual Weapon attack also successfully harms the vampire spawn. And...by my reading of Command Undead, both Rilia & Goran's attacks would break the effect? Not on the controlled skeleton though. That's awkward.

The vampire spawn appears to be affected by Evariel's commanding spell, though she resists his command to bow to him. Not being commanded otherwise, Evariel's controlled skeleton continues its attack on its counterpart, but fails to connect with its longsword.

The skeleton attacking Evariel lands another serious blow against the wizard. Evariel takes 7 more damage.

Frustrated in her efforts, the vampire spawn lashes out at Goran with her sword and a slam attack, and the sword leaves a nasty gash. Goran takes 13 damage.

The spawn isn't attacking Evariel this round in case we want to reconsider last round's actions that broke the Command Undead spell. By my reading, the spawn can attack Goran either way. No one told Rilia or Goran to not attack her, so if they make Spellcraft checks (DC 17) they can figure it out themselves.

Evariel thumps his staff on the ground again, releasing a wave of necromantic energy.

Goran's attacks both miss their target and Rilia's whip fails to cause her skeletal opponent to falter. Angrboda's attack misses its mark as well. A wave of necromantic energy fills the room again as Evariel strives to control his undead opponents and while the vampire resists his dark arts, her ally begins to follow his commands. The skeletons both raise their blades against their former master.

"I will kill you and this will be over!" she screams as she moves around to pursue the wizard. Both skeletons strike at her again in vain as she moves. Goran gets an opportunity attack as well. I'm not sure if Rilia can take opportunity attacks with her whip, but the vampire provokes from her if so.

Assuming that she manages to complete that maneuver...

The vampire spawn finally reaches Evariel and strikes at him with her katana, opening a deadly gash. Evariel takes 7 damage and goes down I think.

A minor amount of the vampire's wounds closed as her turn started fast healing style. She isn't bloodied yet.

Yeah, I realized that it would miss any available target so I just moved on.

Now that Evariel is down, it isn't SUPER clear what that means for the skeletons in the rules. Absent any other suggestions, I'll just have them continue to follow their last orders (to kill the vampire). I'm not aware of anything saying that they need to be controlled continuously by the necromancer in question. If the vampire had been actively controlling them before the party arrived, that might be different, but she doesn't have any class features of that nature.

Botting Goran to keep us moving.

Goran channels the power of Sarenrae to smite the vampire before him.

Channel Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5

The vampire screams as she fails to resist against the divine energies of both Calistira and Sarenrae. The skeletons fare poorly as well. Though they resist some of the divine energy, one of the skeletons crumples as the dark magics animating it give out. The remaining skeleton strikes at the vampire and though most of its blow seems to be resisted, it does cut her slightly.

"I will not be denied!" the vampire screams. "I am a warrior of the Crusade! You are nothing before me!"

The vampiress proves her words by delivering a severe blow to Goran, felling the cleric. She then turns her wrath on the skeleton, slamming it fiercely and nearly destroying it. Goran takes 18 damage from a critical hit. Together with the 13 damage from the May 26th post, that should put him down.

Following her attack, the vampire moves toward Rilia, determined to put down the remaining threats to her victory.

The vampire has been bloodied for a while, but she seems undeterred by your attacks.

Party turn!

Does Rilia consider the commanded skeletons to be her allies?

I think that goes without saying. ;) I'm sure there a number of vengeful undead who look to Calistria for guidance.

Rilia looks down at the unconscious men. "Typical. Barely a minute into the fight."

Maintaining her performance she drops the useless whip and draws her rapier and takes a defensive stance.

mwk rapier v Vampirella (defensive, inspired): 1d20 + 4 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 4 - 4 + 1 = 2 damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 As useful as the whip I see.

fights defensive, +2 AC, maintains inspire.

umm...her katana attack missed....

Warhammer Game Notes & Maps

That is...weird. I was sure that I saw the threat earlier. Something must have happened with the dice bucket. In any case, it doesn't matter. After I posted my pass of the turn up above I audited the battle to make sure I was doing everything right and if Rilia applies her Inspire Courage to the skeletons, one of them hit earlier when I thought it missed. That's enough to take down the vampire.

She probably only went down before her last turn, however. So back off the crit on Goran for more than one reason. Even better, he doesn't pick up a negative level from the slam that would've hit if the katana didn't.

With a shriek the vampire spawn is destroyed and collapses into a pile of necrotic flesh and armor. Some further investigation reveals that the vampire spawn was likely returning from an expedition outside the tomb when you encountered her. A closer examination of the body also shows that the vampire may have been one of the samurai sisters that you came looking for. How she was transformed into a vampire is now likely lost to time, however.

We do still need someone to get Evariel up from bleeding, though I suspect that will be trivial in this party.

"A tad more 'bloodied' than she looked." Rilia says coming to loom over everyone. She looks around puzzled. "What am I standing on? OH! Evariel!"

Yay!

Evariel comes to and immediately looks around for the vampiress. Seeing her on the ground, he gingerly pulls out a wand, wincing at the pain of doing so. "Can't believe... I got... taken out by one of them..." He mutters the command word, and his wounds stitch themselves closed in a sickening but effective manner.

If rounds are important, Evariel heals 1 per round. Otherwise I'll just add them all in, using 2 charges.
