Tomb of the Emperor Gods -- PbP
Game Master Tarren Dei

This PbP started with Entombed with the Pharaohs and continues with The Pact Stone Pyramid. Many of the characters travelled to Osirion after completing a PbP based on River into Darkness.

Actually, it is 10 cubic feet plus an additional 1 cubic foot per level. So she can move a total of 17 cubic feet at the moment (thus the roughly 15" inch wide 10' foot long opening). The only reason I would think that she couldn't move the stone would be if it were in someway magically protected from it I would think. Not sure why it feels wrong. Isn't that what the spell is supposed to do? Honestly asking as maybe I am misinterpreting it or something.

I've always thought of it more as about shaping stone than moving stone to make long tunnels, but the spell is 4th level and does say 'make doors' so I guess it is appropriate.

Sykala has formed a tunnel out of the room. I think I'm too bit to fit through it. Is your character able to fit through this? As soon as I get to my office I'm going to take a box of this size from a storage close, cut out the bottom, and try to crawl through it. Hope with me that the cleaning staff doesn't come in without knocking. I encourage you all to do the same.

Female Human Cleric 7

If the passage is not wide enough Refina will use a stoneshape as well to widen it

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Well, I don't know how many ranks of Escape Artist I qualify as having, but I had to run wire through the back of a built-in file cabinet, which required me crawling through a 14" x 12" hole. I'm not a huge guy, but no one is mistaking me for a midget, either.

Ovirid looks at the hole and down at himself and his gear, and sighs. He starts stuffing everything he can into his handy haversack and prepares to crawl through. Will his shield fit into his pack? I'm not sure it will fit through the tunnel.

Escape Artist 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14

EDIT: With Refina's additional aid, the shield and dwarf should fit through easily.

With the two spells, you can get through. I'm not a big guy, but I think I'd have some trouble getting through the hole unless it was widened.

You move through the widened tunnel and find yourself in a small room.

A shallow pool rests in a basin with walls one foot off the floor. It is filled with a translucent, violet-tinged liquid, topped with a film of purple mist. A single stone ladle lies on the lip of the pool. There is a pair of double doors at the northern point of this circular chamber. The floor near the basin contains a small hole.

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Ixius squeezes through the tunnel into the next room. "Nice work ladies, you have some handy spells. Mine are mostly for burning things."

"Is this place full of puzzles and traps?" Ixius examines the doors.

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31

Lol, I am picturing you all doing this at work and having to explain yourselves. It's a tight fit but I think any of the average weight humans should be able to make it (think Bishop crawling through the pipe in the Aliens movie). The dwarf was my concern since they are...um...thicker ;) I did have a second Stoneshape spell or a Gaseous form to get him through but Refina solved that :)

The little elemental nods appreciatively at Refina's help obviously pleased to have some more divine help. She follows through the wall as the first person goes through. Taking note of the small hole in the floor, Sykala sinks down through the stone to see where it goes.

Out of curiosity, was the last puzzle interesting? I'm slowly building a collection of puzzle traps. Was it too easy to solve? (One of your solutions was correct.)

Sykala only:
The hole in the floor narrows a bit and then begins to branch in different directions. You'll be gone for quite a while if you want to follow them all.

The doors do not appear trapped. They are locked from your side.

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

Ahahah! Love it! Literally LOL'd Terran : ) When you say 'one of our solutions' how many solutions are you considering we had? And yes, very interesting trap. But without someone rolling good knowledge rolls, I think it's be very difficult to impossible to solve.

Once again nodding his appreciation to the versatile druid and as well to the cleric, Korian crawls though and takes stock of the next room and puzzle. Again casting detect magic on the whole room, the mage spends some time examining everything and trying to divine what the test test represents.

Knowledge (Arcana) 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34
Knowledge (Dungeoneering) 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Knowledge (Engineering) 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Knowledge (Geography) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Knowledge (History) 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29 +6 for checks re: Pharoahs
Knowledge (Local) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Knowledge (Nature) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Knowledge (Nobility) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Knowledge (Planes) 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16
Knowledge (Religion) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

The dwarf joins the sorcerer in checking the doors. "D'ye see anythin'?"

I doubt this will find anything looking at his roll, but Perception vs traps 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22

@Sykala - Thicker? Really? After all this time together, now I find out you think I'm fat? ;-) Actually, I think he might have one of the better Escape Artist bonuses in the party. I might have needed a second try, but I was going through...

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

And knowledge checks to discuss what Korian's examining:

Knowledge (Dungeoneering) 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30

Knowledge (Engineering) 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13

Knowledge (History) 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14 +6 for Pharoah -related checks

Ah, I thought Ovirid offered a solution, but looking back, it was wrong too. Still you guys would have probably only triggered the negative spell effect once or twice before solving it, because you were close. Good to know. I'll reply later to the rest from home.

Korian detects magical auras from the liquid in the pool and is able to identify those auras as from the transmutation school.

The doors still do not appear to be trapped. You can open them.

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

Ah, ok, cool.

Studying the pool for a little bit, Korian eventually shrugs his shoulders and says "Well, why not? Perhaps the Pharaohs are thirsty." and, if none stop him, he takes the ladle and carefully pours a spoonful of the magical water into the hole.

A dis-concordant and strangled musical note comes out of the hole. It sounds like a tuba clogged with a kitten blurting sadly.

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

As soon as Korian hears the noise he stops "Hmmm, that doesn't sound right, maybe it's supposed to go a different way?"

Does further study with detect magic reveal any more?

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Ixius laughs. "What other way is there? We better not mess with that any more. Shall I open the doors?"

If no one objects Ixius opens the double doors.

Tarren:

Spoiler:
She'll follow just one of them. Does she get wet from Korian's antics? And is she the reason the sound is so terrible (because maybe she's blocking it?).

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

Korian doesn't stop Ixius, but is still checking out the basin, liquid and hole. He next dips the tip of his finger into the liquid, then, if it seems to be safe to do so, tastes it. Then,if nothing is interrupting him, he next puts his ear to the hole and listens carefully,.

Sykala:
Korian didn't even pour enough water to trickle down to your depth. There's no evidence that you are blocking in. Choose tunnel 1, 2, or 3.

Korian, it tastes like lilacs. Detect magic reveals the liquid is magical. Make a spellcraft check?

Ixius sees a corridor curving off in two different directions.

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30

Korian identifies the liquid potions of gaseous form. He estimates there to be about 8 doses.

Tarren:

Spoiler:
Tunnel #3

Sykala:
The narrow tube (more of a tube than a tunnel, twists and turns until it finally comes out of the pyramid under the ground on the side opposite where you entered.

Female Human Cleric 7

Refina joins Ixus at having a look down the hall.

The curving corridor is 10 ft. wide and heads off in both directions. From where you are, you cannot see anything of interest. You hear, however, footsteps coming towards you and someone whistling a jolly tune.

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

Cool!
Korian calls out before Refina and Ixius enter the hall "Wait friends! It may sound mad, but I believe we are to take this potion and proceed down this hole! While I have my curiosity as to what is down that hall and who whistles, my instinct tells me it may not be in our best interest to find out."

Tarren:

Spoiler:
So if I understand you right it just ends in sand? Ok, she'll check out tunnel #2 to see if it is the same. She'll scratch a number with her stony finger into the start of each one so she can tell them apart.

Sykala:
The tube ends in a small chamber that looks quite similar to the one you just left, including the pool. The main difference is that in this room, the hole is in the ceiling not the floor.

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

"Makes sense t' me."

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

"That sounds fun!"

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

Korian nods in satisfaction as most of the group goes along with the idea "Now where is that Druid of ours?"

The whistling gets closer. A light flickers in the curved hall from the East.

Female Human Cleric 7

"scouting out the hole I think."Refina responds "and we may not get a choice about avoiding whatever is coming."

Tarren:

Spoiler:
Ok, but I am a little confused as to whether I am still looking down the first hole I entered or now the second one. Either way she'll flow through the walls floor and ceiling of the chamber to see if there are any hidden exits. If she finds none she will go to the next hole and repeat the process. After searching all three she will return. I imagine that is probably well past the point they will have encountered the whistler.

Sykala:
It is one hole that branches off in three directions. The third direction goes out to sand. The second branch ends in a room similar to the one you came from in that it has a pool. It has tunnels coming off of it. You can explore this, level if you want but we'll need to take it room by room just like regular dungeon exploration.

All: Sykala is not going to make it back in time to join you in whatever happens next.

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

"All right then, let us all at least stand ready to drink the potion should this whistler prove unfriendly." and putting action to word, Korian squats by the pool, hand just above the surface, readied action to take a drink should the whistler prove dangerous. A pointy little head leans out from his robes prepared to do the same.

Tarren:

Spoiler:
Ah, I see. Thank you. No she will not explore further off that room and will instead go and check tunnel #1. She is going to return and report after that.

Sykala wrote:
Tarren: ** spoiler omitted **

Sykala:
This room has a similar pool, but the pool is dry. The hole is through the wall in this room. The walls are covered with tiny coloured tiles forming a mosaic of ancient Osirion writing.

Korian et al.

The whistling, footsteps, and candlelight come slowly closer from the East and then, suddenly, appear from the East. A grinning man steps into view. He's dressed in outlandish clothes that you recognize as being from another time.

Knowledge (history) 25:
The clothes are from different times. No one, at any point in Osirion history, would have worn these things together.

Profession (fashion designer) 15:
This outfit screams 'pimp'. It's a mix of slave merchant, brothel owner, and caddish aristocrat from different periods in Osirion fashion history.

"Tell me," he says with a generous smile, "do you have a priest among you who can raise the dead?"

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

Knowledge(History): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31 +6 for checks re: Pharaohs
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32

Realizing the extreme strangeness of the man's dress while squinting up at the stranger and invoking his magical sight again, Korian, without moving from his present position at all, answers slowly in the same language the man speaks "We might. And who might you be? Unusual to find a living being in the ancient temple, I must say." it is clear to his allies that the young mage does not trust this 'person' one bit.

"It would be that," says the man with nod, "and particularly in a temple as dangerous as this one. Now, are you able to raise the dead should one of you fall prey to a trap, or would you have use of a gift of that sort?"

Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4

Ovirid, brows lowered and eyes narrowed, keeps his eyes on the stranger, his shield still up and ready. His only acknowledgement of manners is to keep the readied axe out of sight behind the shield.

Female Human Cleric 7

"Well I have not quite reached that great a level of understanding with Sheyln but perhaps someday."

"Then, my beauteous creature, let me contribute to your education," he says with a nod, producing a scroll with a snap of his fingers.

Before disappearing he adds regretfully, "It shames Shelyn that she would deprive her faithful servant so."

The scroll falls to the ground.

Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4

Ixius shakes his head in disbelief. "That was odd."

Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6 (but Drained 2 levels)

Did Korian's detect magic give him any info on the Mysterio?

Standing up, Korian dries off his had and says "Yes, that was quite...unexpected. I believe that's for you then Refina." he says pointing at, and specifically not touching, the scroll.

He then continues, "Well, although I feel taking he potion and going through this hole is the proper way to go, perhaps now that there seems no immediate threat, we can explore these passages as well. Lads, check for traps shall we?" he smiles at his fellow rogues as he begins helping them with the familiar search while slowly moving forward into the passageway.
Traps Perception aid another: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16

Just as steps past the doorway he stops and wonders aloud Hmmm, or was that gift of a scroll a subtle hint that going this way might be deadly?"

Korian's detect magic recognizes the scroll as magic.

Which direction do you go?

Female Human Cleric 7

Refina picks up the scroll and looks over it
