Why am I picturing the scene when the Nazi's open the ark in Raiders Of The Lost Ark?

Sykala wrote:

Because they had lantern archons?

Korian Allande wrote:
Cautioning all to keep their eyes closed for the moment, Korian commands the Archon to fly down and describe all it sees. After them the young mage tells the tiny celestial to be particularily on the look out for anything which resembles the runes

The lantern archon sees...:
...the mummified remains of Cerulean Pharoah are folded over a crook that looks like an asp; it wears a golden circlet set with gems and rings on each finger. It has dark bracers on each arm. Each fist clutches blue gems as large as apples. It sees no runes.

The Pearl of Power is type I. The hide from undead scrolls I found were all CL 1, which means only four of the party can hide. Esteban and Hrokon feel they are due for hiding as well as anyone else. So, who gets it?

(Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6)

The big babies! Ok ok fine, I guess since Ixus and Korian are invisible and Sykala is in the stone the four further away can get the HFU spells cast on them. And so I guess with a PoP 1 that means we have elementals and not an ape, right?

Keeping his eyes closed, Korian commands the elementals to begin removing things from off of the mummy, starting with the crook.

The earth elementals begin to lay the riches at Korian's feet.

What is everyone else doing?

Ixius is standing on the dais keeping his eyes closed.

Jus' waitin' fer th' screamin' t' be startin', cap'n. Remainin' blindfolded, o' course.

Sykala watches the proceedings from within the stone.

at Korian's [I]invisible[/a] feet. Unless there blind sensing or something they shouldn't know where he is. Either way, Korian has them make a pile apart from him and not near the others either. And lol Ovirid, me too :)

As the 'authourized antiquities removeal and preservation' procedure continues Korian has the Archon detect evil on the mummy and near abouts. He also has it look for any more writing of any kind it may be able to see

Tremorsense, so as long as you are in contact with the ground, they know where you are. But, at your spoken command, they will make the pile elsewhere.

any results from the last commands to the Archon? Also not much time has gone by yet has it? If it has and any spell's duration is getting close to running out could you let us know please?

Korian Allande wrote:

The archon detects no evil around the coffin. There are symbols on the bracers and the rod.

(Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6)

Nodding his head Korian asks the archon to describe the symbols in detail

also you said 'around' the coffin, Korian did specify on the mummy as well, so you're not playing word games just to trick us up are you DM? ;)

The archon detects no evil in or around the coffin. There are symbols on the bracers and the rod.

How's that? ;-P

(Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6)

lol, much better ;) now just waiting for the detailed description of those symbols : ) And of course if anyone has anything else to add?

Jus' 'at bein' a mummy's gotta be more interestin' 'an standin' 'ere in the dark. What? 't's not dark in here? 'ow 'm Ah supposed t' know 'at? Looks dark from 'ere Ah'm standin'

Nope, nothing from the blinded dwarf. ;-)

Korian Allande wrote:

Making sense of a verbal description of the symbols would require a Linguistics check. Easy way, asking him if any of the symbols are encircled. Answer: no.

"Well, that seems like a lot of wasted preparation for nothing. You could have sold those scrolls for a bit of coin," he complains before looking around at the river of gold he's bathing in and then chuckling. "hehehe. Well, we can let it slide I guess."

Perception checks, everyone.

(Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6)

Perception:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25

Trying to concentrate with his other senses to make up for his eyes being closed, Korian grinds his teeth at Estaban's comments but says nothing. Mentally he wishes the man would shut up or better yet perhaps drown in his river of gold.

Holding open his haversack, Korian next commands the elementals to place the items inside it, starting with the rune inscribed asp and bracers.

should there be checks for the archon and elementals too?

(Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4)

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

Drowning in a river of gold is Esteban's ideal death.

"You know," he says, "there's a certain irony, here, isn't there? Last time I worked with you lot, I ended up losing gold in the river. This time, I ended up finding a river of gold. hhehehehe."

Korian Allande wrote:

The elementals do this.

Sure.

(Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6)

Archon:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Elemental1:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Hey! On the previous page Sykala wished he drowned in the gold first! ;p

Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 33

Sykala wrote:

Yes, but wish is not on your spell list.

Sykala:
Sykala notices a ripple in the river of gold -- a slight rise in the level. It's moving towards the island (and, for that matter, Esteban).

Grabbing Korian's and Ixius' ankles to get their attention the elemental rises just far enough out of the stone to point at a ripple coming through the river of gold toward us.

Sykala wrote:

Korian and Ixius are invisible. Beast Shape II does not allow you to gain tremorsense. For that matter, how were you able to gain the whirlwind ability again when you were an air elemental?

Oh, sorry. Didn't realize that they were invisible. Retconning slightly...

Sykala rises up out of the floor just far enough to smack her fist into the floor to gather peoples attention, pointing at the ripple coming through the river of gold toward us.

Don't have my book at the moment, so not sure on the whirlwind thing. Sorry, if it's a mistake but it was a fun one. I'm going to go with the explanation that she is using her natural affinity for the air element to get it previously, must have something to do with the special desert winds ;) I knew she didn't get the tremorsense ability and that was why I never used it, always relying only on what she could see with her darkvision.

That works then.

Esteban sees the shift in the level of the gold, looks scared, and begins to splash his way out of the river. His dream-come-true has just turned into a nightmare.

"This will be bad," predicts Hrokon casually from the door feeling no immediate danger to himself. Turning to Ovirid he asks, "Want me to narrate?"

"Aye, please do. What d'ye see?"

Tarren:

Spoiler:
Not to put pressure on you or anything, but things have been very stressful in RL and I can usually count on you to bring a smile to my face, whether you are trying to be funny or not. Hrokon is fantastic, he cracks me up.

"Well, the stoned girl is pointing out something moving in the river of enough gold-to-buy-and-sell-nations. Esteban's looking like he was taking a dip in the temple hot tub only to find a shark in the water. He'll be getting out now if he can. Can't tell what the invisible guys on the island are thinking but I'd be thinking 'thank Desna I'm invisible.' That's about it. You wanna do something?"

"Ten feet or more. I'm thinking we take a break now and come back in fifteen minutes when this is over. How about it?"

(Male Human Rogue 1/ Wizard 6)

Korian whispers tob where he thinks Ixus should be and says "That's rigjt, dragons live for a long time, don't they, maybe some discretion might be the better part of valor here."

For a moment the young mage considers making a bet with the sorcerer as to how fast Estaban can swim in his river of gold but decides that it may not be in the best of taste. So instead he simply moves as silently as he can, putting the sarocaphagus between himself and the approaching bulge in the river.

Stealth:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15 plus invisible, if thayt counts here?

OT to Pixie:
Hope things get better. I've had a rough week myself and these PbPs cheer me up. The Kerrigan's Keep PbPs with Neil Spicer and Jonathan McAnulty and many others helped me through a traffic accident that left me seeing physio for a year and the stress and delays finishing my PhD. Having a place to play and be creative is helpful, isn't it?

(Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4)

Ixius stays put watching the spectacle unfolding before him. "I told him gold would be the death of him." he whispers to Korian.

(Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4)

"No, Ah'm 'ere fer th' mage. Ah cannot leave, but if'n ye want t' be farther from th' river, 'at's fine - lead me t' th' spot."

OT for Tarren:

Spoiler:
It's not been as bad as that here -- I would never have guessed you were going through that and I was a diehard lurker through that adventure. But you are spot-on - it helps a great deal to have a place to be creative. My tabletop group has been sporadic at times, which is actually why I got into a pbp in the first place. Thanks for the well wishes, I hope your next week is better, as well.

The bulge grows larger and leaves a long, shallow trough in its wake. Apparently, a good part of the river of gold on the far side of the dias was this creature. It surges forward towards Esteban spraying gold all around it.

When it brushes past Esteban, he gets pulled under and dragged a bit through the river. Gold coins fill his screaming mouth and he begins to choke, cough, and splutter. When the creature has passed, without completely surfacing, only Esteban's twitching hand remains above the surface of the gold.

He is literally drowning in the river of gold.

(Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4)

"Ah dinnae know 'at be 'appenin', but 'tis not fer soundin' good."

Ovirid Thorvirson wrote:

"Irony," says Hrokon. "I think this is what they call 'irony' in those Westcrown reading circles."

Sykala's eyes narrow as she becomes wary of the approaching predator. She had seen animals that burrowed through the earth and could tell your very presence by tracking the tremors your footfalls caused in the earth. She slowly sinks back into the stone to avoid it should it attempt to pounce.

Tarren:

Spoiler:
She is going to try and go under the river of gold. How long it will take her depends on how deep it is.

(Fighter (Shield) 3 / Rogue 4)

Where is she heading?

She's trying to get back over to Ovirid and Hrokon. Well, a little behind them actually.

You have no trouble getting back.

Esteban's hand is still visible above the surface of the gold.

Actions? Perception checks to find it?
