Suzumaru Viskillian |
I assume F.Raphael uses the salts on me?
Sitting up woozily, Suzumaru asks,"What happened to me? Am I all right? What is that creature up to? Why is it picking on me? So, do I have to destroy her to get all better?
Suzumaru stands up, dusts herself off again. Determination grows in her facial expression,"Lets go find those ne'er do wells and stop their invasion plans cold! We are powerful Pathfinders, lets go explore!"
Father Raphael |
Now that Suzumaru is awake once again, Raphael continues forward, searching the paintings as he comes across them.
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14
Suzumaru Viskillian |
Suzumaru follows Father Raphael into the entry tunnel, with Harvey next to her. She does not pay particularly close attention while marching up ahead.
"Jean, Maxwell. Are you fella's gonna join us in here?"
Doombringer the DM |
Okay, and Andross, as you are the only one at the time to be in that square, this only effects you.
As you are staring at the paintings, and continue walking forward, you suddenly feel the floor give way from under you and you go tumbling DOWN
...
Into a pit filled with large spikes.
No reflex save. The scenario calls it out that you only get one if you were carefully looking at the floor, which you, (observing the paintings) were not.
How many spikes enter your body?: 1d4 ⇒ 4 Oh... oh this is going to hurt...
How much does a 30 foot fall hurt?: 3d6 + 4d4 + 8 ⇒ (4, 2, 6) + (2, 3, 3, 2) + 8 = 30
And Raphael... as you land on four separate spikes, you get the strangest feeling that they are poisoned... and the fact that you have four of them inside of you means this poison is going to be tough to resist, even for you... Roll me ONE fort save.
Oh dear Sarenrae this is liable to hurt if you don't roll extremely well. If you were hit by one, you could make this on a 2, but this? Whew. Good luck.
Father Raphael |
Fort: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30
Raphael also knows neutralize poison and will cast it immediately if he doesn't die.
Doombringer the DM |
So would you believe me if I told you you rolled the DC EXACTLY? DC 18+4x when x=Each spike above the number 1?
So 18+12=30?
Just saying, Sarenrae REALLY like you...
Thankfully, you're only taking Con Damage.
How much Con Damage?: 1d6 ⇒ 1
And as you cast that spell, you need not roll me a second save!
"If the target is a creature, you must make a caster level check (1d20 +caster level) against the DC of each poison affecting the target."
Give me a caster level check...
Father Raphael |
I was hoping you'd just roll it for me since I wasn't sure if I was making a separate check for each spike or not. Although if we're counting them as all one poison, it's impossible for me to succeed. Although normally multiple doses of the same poison only increase the DC by 2 rather than 4, so I dunno.
CL check: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Doombringer the DM |
No, luckily since you saved, it was only the effect of having the lesser effect of the poison strike twice (not once for all four spikes.) Think of it like CoC's insanity loss. No matter if you save or not, you're losing SOMETHING, and since this poison's effects are normally save or die, me and my old GM thought they should have similar effects to Strychnine. Even if it doesn't kill you (failed save), it was sure to mess you up badly (failed save) I will give you an A for effort and get rid of the paralyzing effect this was supposed to also have
Fort: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (7) + 16 = 23
More Con Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
And as your muscles contract in response to the poison, you feel like your muscles are convulsing, and your organs aren't faring much better. After a few agonizing seconds of this, you are able to cast your spell which though does not get rid of the poison entirely, gives you just enough strength to rip your way from the spikes that impaled themselves in your body. and fall beside them, gasping as your muscles continue to tense at random.
The voice bursts out in a hideous laughter. "Oooooooh, I do love when people fall onto those. We found the poison on earth: Strychnine. Have your ever seen a person die of the seizures it could produce? Hehehe you should consider yourself fortunate priest!"
Father Raphael |
Raphael groans, briefly wondering what was more painful: the spikes or the commentary. He lays briefly on his back, staring up at the ceiling and catching his breath. He then slowly stands up, pulling some rope out of his bag and tossing it to Maxwell.
He then carefully ties his armor tot he bottom of the rope in his backpack if needed and takes his time to climb back up.
It's a DC5 climb check, which Raphael can make by taking 10.
Once up on steady ground, he takes in the paintings around him while catching his breath.
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20
Also, I just remembered, I have a ring of feather fall on. I assume this at least means I wouldn't take the falling damage. I don't suppose it changes anything else though?
Father Raphael |
Wait, really? I could have sworn I retrieved it! I distinctly remember thinking it at least.
Father Raphael |
After stretching slightly before trying to retrieve his ring from Jean. "I find I didn't do much that battle, so I would be willing to continue. Although if others need rest, so be it."
See! I totally asked for it back! And I assumed since he didn't say he refused to give it back, that I was successful. Otherwise there would have been some kind of a role playing interaction.
Suzumaru Viskillian |
Suzumaru watches all this, though she seems very distracted. She keeps pulling on her hair and examines it. "Ah, Father. I'm sorry I'm somewhat distracted, can I help at all?"
Father Raphael |
I already climbed out of the hole by taking 10...
Wiping the dust off his clothes, Raphael re-dons his armor. "Well, I could continue to walk along staring at the floor. But that seems likely only to result in me getting hit by something from a wall or ceiling." He begins tying the rope around his waist. "If I'm going to continue to go first, how about someone stand behind me holding this rope, so I don't fall into any more pits?"
He then moves forward, casting a cure spell on himself, to look at the next set of paintings.
CLW: 1d8 + 9 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 2 + 1 = 18 Sweet! The perfect roll!
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19
Doombringer the DM |
I think you all will attempt to determine where all the pit traps in this hallway are, so I will mark them.
At the end of the long, painted hallway, the tile "path" split in two. One branch leads towards a 7 foot stone archway decorated with an opaque, swirling mist. The second path heads towards the southern wall where it ends directly underneath a large mosaic of green tile in the shape of a demon's face. It's mouth forms a large gaping hole in the wall about 3 feet in diameter and dead black. (In fact, on the lower righthand portion of the map, you can see a representation of this demon face. It's the compass).
Father Raphael |
Raphael moves to join Hamish, glancing briefly at the images on the walls as he walks past.
"I can dispel magic, but it would be my casting ability against the caster of the magical darkness. And somehow I get the feeling that the spellcaster in question is significantly more powerful than I am."
Raphael then picks up his own stone and makes a few gestures over it, causing it to glow brightly. He then tosses the stone in to the mouth. Casting light. Also, just assume I walked in the same path as Hamish.
"I don't really like the look of either entrance. If indeed, they truly are entrances. I could summon something and send it through, but I'm afraid it wouldn't be able to give us any intel as my summoning is pretty weak."
Father Raphael |
"It ended the light spell. Perhaps we should try something a bit more low tech? Does anybody have a torch? Between my ioun stone and light spell, I figured I wouldn't need one."
Suzumaru Viskillian |
"We could always just look inside?"worries Suzumaru. What is happening to me? Why now? Maybe I haven't been reckless enough?
Suzumaru walks the path that everyone else has and then sticks her head in the demon mouth thing to see if she can see anything on the other side.
If that doesn't help my condition, nothing will!
Duchess Fukuopicus |
You hear the high pitched laughter of Fukuopicus. "In all my years, that never gets old! Every single dimension someone decides to stick their head inside the sphere of annihilation! One player has been ejected from the game! Such a shame too, I was having fun tormenting her, what with the 'Bleaching' she was going through. Does shun green, mean NOTHING to you all?"
Father Raphael |
To be fair, I was going to make a comment about that after trying out the torch. :/
Raphael frowns and sends a quick prayer to Sarenrae to guard Suzumaru's soul. And to look after Harvey...whatever it is that happened to him. He then pauses in a moment of respect for their fallen ally.
Shaking his head again, he attempts to continue in a business-like manner. "Well, I guess the remaining question is if this gateway is an entrance, or if it's another false opening." He then summons a celestial dog, ties a rope to it, and has it go through the misty gateway and then immediately come back.
