Raphael speaks Abyssal
Init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Planes: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
Oh dear- Mid-though, Raphael can feel the spirit of Sarenrae start to take him over. "نعم، وإن كنت المشي من خلال وادي ظل الموت، لا أخاف شرا لانك انت معي. عصاك والموظفين هم خاصتك الراحة لي."
Suzumaru Viskillian |
Round 1 actions
"Oh my! We are casting spells? This thing is hostile?" questions Suzumaru before weaving and chanting to an odd lilting tune, finally pricking her finger watching a drop of blood sizzle into vapor.
"ალკოჰოლური სასმელების ბნელი და სიკვდილი, მომანიჭოთ დროებითი ცხოვრება"
I cast false life on myself, and back away 35 feet from the huge creature.
False HP: 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Doombringer the DM |
Okay, the Glabrezu looks Maxwell and laughs.
Will Save: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
I will assume he saves, and so decided to open up a volley of blows on you Maxwell. HE starts off with two blows from his pincers followed by punches and lastly decides to end it off with a spiteful bit to your shoulder.
Attack: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (13) + 20 = 33
Attack: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (3) + 20 = 23
Attack: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (8) + 20 = 28
Attack: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (19) + 20 = 39

Damage: 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Okay that is... 76 HP done to you Maxwell.
Father Raphael |
Raphael feels a stinging sensation in the back of his head as some life is drained away to heal his comrade.
So down to -4 and then back up to 1 HP as Maxwell is healed by life link.
In a slightly dazed manner, Raphael glides over to Maxwell. He places one hand on the man, as though blessing him. "وإن كنت لا أشارك إيماني، وأنا لن تسمح لك الانخفاض، طفلي."
Using a swift action to use a healing war blessing to make this empowered.
Cure Critical Wounds: 4d8 + 2d8 + 9 ⇒ (2, 2, 8, 8) + (4, 1) + 9 = 34
So back to 35/72 HP
Jean Begnoche |
Jean whips his shield onto his arm as he runs, his voice gaining an echo-like effect.
Your attention should be on me, monster!
Charging, smite evil.
+1 Holy (ghosttouch) Longsword: 1d20 + 2 + 4 + 9 + 3 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 2 + 4 + 9 + 3 + 3 + 1 = 41
That's 2 for charge, 4 for strength, 9 for Bab, 3 for smite, 3 for recklessness, 1 for weapon focus. No AC penalty for charging.
Damage: 2d6 + 4 + 3 + 9 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (5, 4) + 4 + 3 + 9 + 1 + (1, 2) = 29
That's 2d6 Weapon base (Thunderous charge), 4 strength,3 recklessness, 9 for smite, 1 for weapon specialization, 2d6 holy.
Confirmation?: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (8) + 22 = 30
If confirmed: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 5) = 9
Doombringer the DM |
Are your attacks considered good aligned? I forgot. Smite. It doesn't matter.
As you come rushing at the demon, it spots you from the corner of it's eye and smacks you with it's pincer as you get within 15 feet.
AOO: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (14) + 20 = 34
Damage: 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (3, 6) + 10 = 19
Luckily his blow does not stop your movement and you slam into him, slashing with your longsword. It turns it's head and roars in your face before facing Maxwell again. (It is your turn Maxwell. Remember, you fell unconscious before you were healed, so you are on the ground currently, with this demon looking down at you.)
He automakes his Fort Save.
Doombringer the DM |
Hehehe oh boy hold on.
As you teleport away Maxwell, you notice a... small hole in the air next to you. Its almost like there is a portal that was ripped in this plane that leads to another. It starts to stitch itself back up it not before this pops out:
What comes out?: 1d6 ⇒ 4
How many come out?: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Three deathly pale figures work their way out of the portal before it closes, each with a wicked barbed chain wrapping around its body and extending into its hand, almost like a weapon. And they all look pretty upset at you Maxwell.
Funny how we forget the little things like 'don't teleport' when we are nervous, eh? ;)
Suzumaru Viskillian |
Round 2 actions
Maxwell, Jean, and Raphael heal 5 hit points and Suzumaru takes 15 damage from life link.
"What in the world are you doing Maxwell? Why are you summoning all these guardians?" cries Suzumaru. She then makes a motion like she was hurling a javelin at one of the newly arrived creature, while mumbling,"იარაღი სპირტი თქვენი დახმარება არის საჭირო, გამოდი და დისპეტჩერიზაციის ეს მტრები"
Suzumaru casts Spiritual Weapon and directs it at one of the newly arrived creatures.

Two of the chain devils begin to flank Maxwell, unravelling their chains and letting out a massive flurry.

The third notices him still breathing despite dropping unconscious, and sadistically lets his own chian strike Maxwell a number of times.

Attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26
Damage: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 1) + 2 = 6
Kyton 3 is the one that took the damage
That should put you at -27
And as Maxwell dies, you notice that the Glabrezu raises its arms, looking ready to cast yet another spell... when it suddenly starts fading out of existance. IT looks over to the Kytons beating on Maxwell's body, before letting out a telepathic message to everyone. "His death saved you."
As Maxwell was the one to activate this trap, you think his death may be the reason the glabrezu is gone. The Kytons on the other hand came out of a tear in the planes, meaning they are still here...
SCRATCH THAT I forgot about Father Raphael. He goes before the devils. Their actions, however, will be the same otherwise. Father, you are about 90 feat away from him, and on your turn their is a Glabrezu within your reach... and Jean had just been shot into the air.
Father Raphael |
Well, Maxwell and Jean both heal 5 HP. But unless that's enough to save Maxwell, there isn't a thing I can do to save him when he's 90 feet away from me and my move speed is 20ft.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18 This is to identify what the Glabrezu cast.
Raphael steps away from the demon before him, turning to look at his oddly unwise companion. "خداع من تولى! على الرغم ضوء Sarenrae هو في كل مكان، وأنا لا."
He then starts to cast Summon Monster I. The details of this will depend on if he's able to figure anything out about what the glabrezu cast. Also, if needed, he will do this defensively.
Planes: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31 Order: Defenses, weaknesses, special attacks, SLA
Doombringer the DM |
No need for the planes rolls, -22 still puts him down, and this the Glabrezu disappears. You don't know what spell was cast but if you look at objects on his body, they seem to be hanging as if gravity were directing him towards the sky rather than the ground.
Suzumaru, since Maxwell has been beaten to death, it is your turn... And if you don't care much for his body, you can cast the spell and hit all three of them... ;) Perfectly within the pragmatic neutral alignment as well.
Father Raphael |
Raphael feels a cold chill come over him as he feels his connection to the other man brutally end. He...can't. I...I should have.* He quickly tries to shake off the feeling. No, he has that item Andross made us. He'll be ok. We just need to survive this and get to a safe place.
He turns his attention to his now flying companion, making gestures even more quickly than before. An anti-gravity spell? I don't recognize it. That beast should have cast it on me instead. I just hope this eagle is fast enough to deliver my ring before he starts to fall...
*I'm assuming he's also thinking in Celestial, but for formatting sake, I'm not going to use spoilers for each one.
Suzumaru Viskillian |
Round 3 Actions
Jean and Father Rapheal recover 5 hit points from the life link.
"Sorry Maxwell..."cries Suzumaru. She then begins to spin and hop while drawing a pinch of bat guano and sulfer from her pouch and shouts,"სულისკვეთებით ფლეიმის, დამწვრობა მონსტრები" then hurls a small glowing fiery ball, that explodes on impact causing a huge burst of fire engulfing the devilish creatures.
Spell Resist: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Fireball Damage(DC17 for half): 9d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 2, 4, 4, 4, 3, 4, 2) = 30
The Spiritual Weapon continues to attacks Kyton 3:
Attack 1: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Attack 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Doombringer the DM |
The kytons' eyes widen noticeably as the bead explodes with great force in the midst of them.
Reflex Kyton 1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Reflex Kyton 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Reflex Kyton 3: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
You notice that despite the fire, their wounds heal slightly... You remember that it was good weapons/spells or silver weapons that stop their regeneration.
Father Raphael |
Jean and Suzumaru heal 5HP? :-P
As his gestures finish, a magnificent celestial eagle appears in front of Raphael. He pulls off his ring of feather fall and point to the flying Jean. I'm assuming grabbing the ring takes a move action since that's what it is for grabbing a stowed item. Not sure about a worn one.
He will then move towards the one ally he has still in the area.
The eagle for its part, flies up to Jean. 80ft move speed, so I think a double move should be enough to get the bird right above Jean, with the ring of feather fall in its talon.
Doombringer the DM |
Unfortunately not enough
If Hamish is still running, and nobody decided to try and call for him, the chain devils are going to decide to split up, the chain devils are going to split up. Two going after Suzumaru (including Kyton #3) and one going after Father Raphael. The one going after Raphael spends a double move action trying to get over there, but doesn't quite make it close enough to swing his chain (perhaps tired out by the explosion to his face) while the other two are just able to get to Suzumaru. (One is threatening but can't attack, while the other is 10 ft. away.)
GM Viskous |
Round 4 Actions
Fairly sure Jean should be healed up, so no life link.
Suzumaru calls out,"Mad Hamish, we could really use a hand here, the big one is gone and I can't quite finish off the little ones all by myself!" She then steps back from the threatening Kyton(5 foot step)
Spellcraft to identify Jean's problem: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15
The Spiritual Weapon follows the Kyton and makes another attack on Kyton 3.
Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25 Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Suzumaru stomps her feet, gestures rudely with her hands, and then calls out in a clear voice,"სულისკვეთებით ფლეიმის, მითითებული თქვენი მორჩილი მსახური ფიცს!"Suddenly her hand is covered in flame(Produce Flame), which she hurls at Kyton 3.
Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Damnation. Well I forgot to roll spell resistance, guess I won't bother...
Potential Victim |
HAmish easily gets the perception check.
Muttering and cursing he goes back slower than he ran away to confirm that indeed the blood demon was gon, and yes Maxwell is currently explaining to his god the mistake he made, and yes there were chain devils. Moving towards the melee he pulls his bow and casts some courage.
Move as close as I can with a move action and cast heroism on self. Lasts 90 minutes.
Father Raphael |
Raphael moves 20 feet towards Suzumaru, trying to keep the chain devil not within 10 feet of him. He then calls upon Sarenrae to protect him from these foul creatures. Casting magic circle against evil on himself. Lasts for 90 minutes.
SR: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
I think this means the chain devil can't come within 10 feet of me? Unless they are not actually evil, which would be sad.
He calls to Suzumaru, as the only companion in the area he is aware of currently. "يأتي وتكون محمية بواسطة ضوء Sarenrae!"
The eagle attempts to help drag Jean out of the reversed gravity.
1d20 ⇒ 3 -1 if it's a bullrush attempt, +4 if it's a reflex aid-another
Although neither one is probably successful.
Doombringer the DM |
Make another reflex save Jean.
As for the circle, it doesn't seem to work… probably because they aren't summoned creatures and this is noticeable when the two Kytons stay where they are, and kyton 2 five foot steps next to kyton 3, who is 10 feet away from Suzumaru. They then remember that they can use their chains as a reach weapon No, seriously and decide to full attack Suzumaru.

Father Raphael |
Did Suzumaru take damage from that attack? If so, I might change this action to a more potent healing spell on her specifically.
Lacking something better to do, Raphael moves slightly closer to Suzumaru and casts Greater Path of Glory on his square, her square, and two other squares adjacent to those. Allies ending their turn in those squares gain 5HP. 6 if they worship Sarenrae.
The celestial eagle continues to try to aid Jean.
1d20 ⇒ 8 -1 if bullrush, +4 if reflex aid
Eagle: 3/9 rounds
Path of Glory: 1/9 rounds
Suzumaru Viskillian |
Round 5 Actions
Avoiding half the chain attacks, Suzumaru steps back another 5 foot and hurls another handful of flames at the third Kyton, while her spiritual weapon continues to poke at it. Then when missing with the hurled flame attack,"Hold still you filthy creature! Or better yet depart to the fell realm from whence you came!"
Spell Resistance: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Range Touch Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Spiritual Weapon: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26 Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
I took damage, I was hoping to clarify why I take 8 more damage per chain than did Maxwell. I'll assume that was an error and only take 32 damage, rather than 56. A heal would be appreciated but a CLW or CMW should be plenty. Also take 5 from the lifelink!
Father Raphael |
Ok, then instead of Greater Path of Glory, Raphael casts CMW.
CMW: 2d8 + 9 ⇒ (4, 1) + 9 = 14 +5 from life link, plus I believe you have fey foundling for an extra +4 healed for a total of 23.
Doombringer the DM |
The last kyton slowly trudges forward, so that it is 15 feet away from Father Raphael. As it moves, you notice its face morph from that of a devil... to Maxwell's as you remembered him not too long ago. The form points an accusatory finger to Raphael "You... I trusted you with my life... but because of your incompetence, I was dragged from this world and am now held hostage in the fiery depths of hell!" You notice tear's start to form in his eyes. "Desna couldn't save me... and neither could Sarenrae... would good are the gods if their servants are this weak?"
Make a will save Raphael. This is not an illusion so even if you make it, you still see Maxwell's face in place of the devil's
It doesn't know you speak infernal, but it DOES know you just spoke celestial. It mutters under its breath in its own tongue (infernal} "Damned priest. You dare speak the tongue of angels in my presence?"
Father Raphael |
Raphael stares at the demon, completely unable to understand a single word it says. Behind his helmet his face grows serious.
Will: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30
As an oracle with the tongues curse, he currently only understands Celestial and Infernal. And he hasn't spoken Infernal at all, so unless they read his mind, they wouldn't know that.
Doombringer the DM |
The kyton that was intent on Father Raphael notices that it's impersonation of Maxwell probably wasn't appropriate... so the face shifts into that of the old priest who told Raphael all tthat time ago to buy a ring of feather falling... the very ring that saved his life. The visage smiles and again speaks in common. "Remember me? Sarenrae's light shine upon you that day, and look what you have done with it. You squandered her gifts and let that boy die. You failure..."
Does it notice you don't appear visably shaken?: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (10) + 14 = 24
With that, the old priest's expression will shift into a snarl as it switches to its infernal lanuage. "You idiot. Do you only speak the tongue of the angels? Then you are of no use to me." Make another will save
The other two kytons will five foot step up and continue to follow Suzumaru, who at the moment is the only one doing serious damage to them, despite their healing capabilities.

Suzumaru Viskillian |
Round 6 Actions
Suzumaru takes 26 damage from the chain attacks.
4 of the chains connect with Suzumaru again, she lets out a small whimper of pain. She hardens her resolve, then taking another 5 foot step back, she hurls another handful of flame at the 3rd Kyton, while her Spiritual Weapon continues to pick away at it.

Father Raphael |
Will: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (17) + 15 = 32
Raphael now looks even more confused. What on earth is this devil trying to do? Why is he now taking on the appearance of Father Mitchel?
Deciding that it's best to ignore its weird, incomprehensible machinations, he continues to heal Suzumaru.
Cure Serious Wounds: 3d8 + 9 ⇒ (6, 6, 4) + 9 = 25 +5 life link, +6 fey foundling, Total: 36

Doombringer the DM |
Alright, so your first arrow hits kyton number three in the shoulder while the second arrow kills it, striking it in the heart, and the alchemical silver stopping its regeneration from working for just long enough... the third arrow can either strike the one going after Suzumaru or ATTEMPTING to frighten Father Raphael. Either way, it strikes true, hitting it in the chest, wounding it quite a bit.
Doombringer the DM |
Sorry Jean. And THIS is why generally you run away from CR +4 encounters like a glabrezu. At least the chain devils are manageable
The last two kytons, disturbed by their companion's death, decide to focus on one of you. The one near Suzumaru continues to attack, five foot stepping again if need be, while the other charges Suzumaru with one mighty swing of its chain.
