Maid:
Thom follows behind Raya, grimacing at the condition of the vessel. "Yeah, something is definitely not right here."

He stretches his arcane senses out, looking for any traces of magical auras. [ooc]Arcane take 10, total 33./ooc]

Maid:

Raya creeps towards the hold, senses twanging with an instinctive feel that something is badly wrong here. Mervin remains gratefully behind the paladin as Thom seems to taste the air.

There can be no mistake. Something dangerously chaotic awaits in the hold.

Female Human 18 Paladin/Heartwarder

Maid:
Raya frowns, "I feel it would be best if I were armored for this...Let us move back enough that whatever lurks beyond does not hear much."

Retreat back a bit, and armor up. Bradaman's Longsword, and shield up. Ioun bless bags of holding.

"Ruinblade, I wished to let you know that I still intend not to use you in city if I can help it, you are far too powerful for what may just be a rogue otyugh....Though if its something far worse, we may see how effective I use you."

"Thom, if you think the otyugh has gone feral or such, please let me know soon, for I intend to capture it otherwise."

If nothing occurs after that, she will investigate the door, boldly kicking it open, as she looks to surprise whatever foe is inside.

Maid:
Thom swallows a lump in his throat and his voice is barely audible. "I think this is more...serious than just an otyugh who broke free. There is something NOT right here, Raya."

Maid:
I fail to see how this excursion is furthing my aims. You should be concentrating on the demi-lich, not invading garbage vessels.

Does Thom's tone give Raya pause or is she still kicking the door in?

Silver Crusade

Female Human 18 Paladin/Heartwarder

Maid:
Raya concentrates for a moment. Life has a funny way of leading to where you need to be, Ruinblade. My goal hasn't changed.

She looks towards Thom, "Truely? It is worse than I thought, take heart Thom, we'll be cautious." His tone does indeed urge her to caution. "Keep a spell upon your lips, and I'll stay within the doorway if able."

A readied set of actions from Barel and Thom here might do wonders, if they can squeeze something in before initiative, if things do go sour.

After any last second preparation, Raya slowly opens the door, her shield braced and ready.

Maid:
Thom utters a quick summoning incantation and a familiar iron humanoid being springs into existence next to the wizard.

Summon Iron Cohort.

Male Dwarf Warden/16

Maid:
Barel has been strangely silent during this entire trek...either he sensed something "off" as well, or he is just preoccupied by the last drink he enjoyed at the bar. When prompted, Barel activats his guardian form of the oak sentinel and then readies an attack with his Mountain Hammer power.

Maid:

Raya pushes back the door and reveals a large green toadlike creature. It's eye gleam with intelligence and it stands alongside a gaping hole swirling with dangerous colour. As she enters, the creature turns to her and the strange swirling lights pulse.

Female Human 18 Paladin/Heartwarder

Maid:
"Well...what do we have here?" she says cautiously.

What DO we have here?
Arcana 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

"Right! Do you know what scares people in a fight. It's not the biggest, nastiest thing around. It's not having loads of enemies around. It's when they look at you and can't see anything they can do to fight back! When people look at you, and see a wall of spear heads where they want to attack, they start to think about their mortality. They start to think that maybe they shouldn't go towards those people, because they can't do much too them. And when that wall of spearheads is advancing on them, they start to think that perhaps they should retreat. And people hwo are leaping over the side of a ship to get away from you probably aren't going to be a big problem for a while." Arishat raises her voice. "First, we need to get you able to move together, as a group! Now, grab a pole. Form up in three ranks. Let's see whether you can move in a straight line, before we get onto the complicated stuff like wheeling or advancing with leveled weapons."

Maid:
Thom mutters under his breath, "This can't be a good thing..."

Arcana 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (7) + 23 = 30
Minor action: Use Foe Stone.

Maid:

Raya's ignorance may be a blessing, but Thom can fill in enough of the blanks for all of them.

The toadlike being is unquestionably a slaad. These agents of entropy are strange indeed and rarely found outside the elemental planes. The green colouration means that the creature is a Spawner, governed above all by driving need to infect and devour as many living beings as possible.

This one has newly reached full growth as the slime of recent increase in size and a few dotted organic remains attest. As a result, it may be slightly slower than usual, but likely no less dangerous.

Ref is weakest defense.

Arishat goes to work, assembling her troops and drawing a small crowd of amused onlookers. Among them are a couple of bored githyanki on the Cloudbreaker.

There is plenty of distraction to cover any actions Lynore and Lanthair may wish to take.

Silver Crusade

Female Human 18 Paladin/Heartwarder

Maid:

"Talk to me, Thom. Can you shut down this portal?"

Assume Total Defense, if possible.

Maid:
Thom thinks wryly Yeah she definitely reminds me of Lureene...

"Yeah, I think so, just need to keep greenie occupied for a moment. By the way, I think he should be on the other side of the portal first."

Arcana take 10, total 33 to determine how to close the portal.

Maid:
Thom, I don't think this counts as a stress-free moment when you can take 10. Can you roll please?

Maid:
What, this is a stressful situation? Heh I guess Raya is causing Thom undue stress here, he he.

Arcana 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (19) + 23 = 42

Maid:
Thom controls his blood pressure and casts about desperately for a way to shut down the glowing hole. It is possible, but he realises he will have to work hard.

Yes, you can do it. You'll need 6 Arcana checks DC30

Init please :)

From the edge of the crowd, Lanthair looks around for the best means of infiltrating the Cloudbreaker.

Perception 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (17) + 17 = 34

From the corner of his eye, Lanthair sees a faint pulsing flicker coming from the hold of the Maid of Allwork.

Lying alongside her, Cloudbreaker's crew are engrossed in Arishat's demonstration. If the halfling can find a way to Cloudbreaker's stern, it looks as if he can make his way aboard without anyone noticing.

Male Halfling Monk 18 / Ghostwalker

Is there a ramp, ladder, or rope with which one could reach the stern?

Lanthair can see a rope ladder loop around the top railing.

Maid:

Mervin looks horrified.

"That's no otyugh," he manages to gulp.

Maid:
Mervin beats a hasty retreat.

"Sweet Erathis, no. I'll clear the dock."

Male Halfling Monk 18 / Ghostwalker

Does the rope ladder dangle down to the water? How far is it from the dock?

Dock edge two squares up.
Ladder is dangling, but two squares above water level.

Male Dwarf Warden/16

Maid:
Barel's init: (10)+9= 19.

Maid:

Moving lightly around the portal, the slaad licks its rather large lips and points at Raya. A burst of uncontrolled chaotic energy heads towards the paladin blurring her mind.

Arcana check to close portal 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (18) + 23 = 41

Male Halfling Monk 18 / Ghostwalker

Cloudbreaker

Lanthair sets off to swim out to the ship.

My goal is to swim out close to it. Once I'm closer, I can use Careful Stride to stand on the water and position myself under the ladder. Then use the Crane's Wings movement technique to jump and grab it. Athletics 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (8) + 27 = 35.

Stealth if I need it: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (2) + 19 = 21

Cloudbreaker

Using Arishat's distraction to the hilt, Lanthair slips quietly into the water and swims un-noticed to the ladder. With a single swift movement, he pushes himself upwards and onto the side of Cloudbreaker. The combination of his own skill and the whining of recruits masks everything.

Cloudbreaker

Maid

Thom realises he needs to be closer to the mass of energy in order to remove it.

You can keep the roll of course, but you need to be within two squares of the portal to deal with it. My bad. Forgot to say so.

Raya shakes her head, trying to free her mind from the dazing assault.

Save vs daze 1d20 ⇒ 7

Failing to do so, she stumbles forward, avoiding the portal as best she can, moving to C2.

Maid:
Thom sees his opening and moves into the hold.

Move to N2? IC will move next to him N3?

Arishat's voice can be heard calling orders amid the excited buzz of commentary from her audience and the moans of her recruits.

Cloudbreaker:

Lanthair moves swiftly to the hold door and realises it is both heavy and locked. A faint splash behind him heralds the arrival of Lynore.

Maid:

How intelligent of me to blank out your letters. I've put you where I think you want to be, but if you could all check, I'd be grateful.

@Raya - no need to save v daze, it ends at the end of the slaad's next turn

Barel advances with menaces, but fails to land a blow on the slaad. It flicks a thoughtful glance at him.

"Clear the dock! Clear the dock! There's something horrible in the Maid's hold!"

The gith sailors look at each other with some concern.

Lanthair slips down into the open hatch just as panicky voice starts shouting to clear the dock.
