Reporting in!

Also, since Alexei has the Tongues curse, I'm going to be using a machine translator to write in Hebrew when he's forced to speak in Celestial. That cool with everyone?

Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1

Hello all

DM, any preference for a form(aka class) of Oliar?

M Ulfen Brawler 6 {HP53/69; AC21, T13, FF19; F+11 R+5 W+6; Init+2; Perc+7}

Sweet, thanks for choosing me Haldhin!

Looking at the group, I may make some changes to Bjorn seeing how melee-heavy we are.

M Ulfen Brawler 6 {HP53/69; AC21, T13, FF19; F+11 R+5 W+6; Init+2; Perc+7}

I'm partial to the rogue version. Minus Oliar, our current group is:

Fighter
Fighter
Str-based Monk
Life Oracle
Conjurer Wizard

That means we've already got three strength-based melee combatants. We could use some of the flexibility that rogue affords.

M Half-orc Monk (Martial Artist) 5 {HP 43/44; AC16(20), T16, FF13(17); F+7 R+7 W+7; Init+2; Perc+10} {Effects: none}

'Allo, 'allo mates. Ready for a bit o' the old ultra violence?

Oliar wrote:

Either rogue or ranger would work, and you don't really need one or the other. I kind of liked the rogue aspect of the character, but I'm fine with whatever you decide.

Fine by me, but please post a translation in spoiler.

M Ulfen Brawler 6 {HP53/69; AC21, T13, FF19; F+11 R+5 W+6; Init+2; Perc+7}

Haldhin, do you mind if I put a placeholder post in the gameplay thread for ease of tracking?

Bjorn, I just did it - thanks for your post though, I totally forgot to do it. Everyone can post there, but please do so ooc until officially begin.

Bjorn and Harold have really similar fighting styles.

That should be fun.

"You cheeky lil'bugger." Harold cracks his knuckles as he stalks closer to Alexei. As the half-orc draws near, he raises one hand and gives Alexei a vigorous pat on the shoulder as his face splits into a terrifyin grin, "G'thing I don't much care for me mum! Haha!"

Yeah, should be interesting to say the least. Two hand-to-hand bruisers against lots of nasty energy draining undead.

Don't forget Oliar will be using his claws as well, regardless of class. Though, if possible, he'll eventually switch to claw blades.

As far as actual class goes, I'm kinda stuck between Ranger and Rogue. It's a choice between being able to manage in combat and being a skill monkey/cat

M Ulfen Brawler 6 {HP53/69; AC21, T13, FF19; F+11 R+5 W+6; Init+2; Perc+7}

I think combat is pretty well managed. And rogue-Oliar will still contribute plenty in melee.

Bring on the skill mon-Cat!

Male Half-Orc Wizard (Conjurer) 5 {HP 34/34; AC 15, T 11, FF 14; F+3 R+3 W+6/+8 vs. fear effects; Init+1; Perc+12} {Effects: Mage Armor}

"Good day to you all, goodsirs," an impeccably dressed half-orc greets the other adventurers, doffing his bowler hat and bowing his head respectfully. "Korvus Slade reporting for duty as requested," he adds, straightening the pince-nez perched on his bestial snout.

Greetings, everyone! Thank you for accepting me into the game, DM Haldhin. I'm a big fan of gothic horror (Ravenloft was one of my favorite settings) and I've been dying to get into a Carrion Crown game. Looking forward to playing with everyone - it looks like we have a very interesting group!

Male Human (Chelaxian) Oracle of Life 4 [ HP: 39/39 | AC: 21 T: 11 FF: 20 | F: +4 R: +3 W: +6 | Init: +7 Per: +5 | 1st: 6/7 2nd: 4/4 | Channel: 4/5 EB: 4/4 | Effects: None ]

There's nothing stopping Oliar from using daggers or a shortbow to sneak attack from range, too. Being a Rogue is more about being crafty in combat.

Quick DM notes tonight...

Glad everyone is excited about the campaign, I'm definitely looking forward to it too!

My job allows me to check the site several times a day, as well as post occasionally. At the least, I plan to post every night before 10pm EST (GMT -5). If the thread is full of action, I'll likely post more often. I also post on weekends, but I understand if things slow down a bit on Saturday and Sunday.

That said, I also have a 3-month old son, so my posting schedule is +/- baby time. I haven't really had any problems yet, but just in case I'm unexpectedly absent, you all have an idea why.

And speaking of being absent, if I know I am going to be out of touch, I'll let everyone know well before it happens. I would ask everyone to also do the same if at all possible.

For combats, I'll use a map if needed, but if tactics don't play a huge part in the fight, we won't use one. I like to have initiative rolled, let everyone post their intentions/actions, then I'll post a recap of the round. Generally speaking, people get 24 hours to post their actions, after which I'll move on with the combat.

In the short term, I'd like to have character details finalized this weekend. I'm planning on making the first official Gameplay post on Sunday afternoon, with my next update Monday evening.

If there are any questions or suggestions, don't hesitate to post them.

Oliar, regarding claw blades, what exactly is your concern - just getting access to them?

And yes, I'm definitely interested to see how Bjorn and Harold work in combat together. :)

Male Human (Chelaxian) Oracle of Life 4 [ HP: 39/39 | AC: 21 T: 11 FF: 20 | F: +4 R: +3 W: +6 | Init: +7 Per: +5 | 1st: 6/7 2nd: 4/4 | Channel: 4/5 EB: 4/4 | Effects: None ]

I think I've got everything ready to go?

I'm currently looking for work and in between school semesters, so I will be around plenty.

Male Half-Orc Wizard (Conjurer) 5 {HP 34/34; AC 15, T 11, FF 14; F+3 R+3 W+6/+8 vs. fear effects; Init+1; Perc+12} {Effects: Mage Armor}

Korvus is finalized and ready to go.

Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1

Mostly the getting access part yeah. I'm not interested in them at the start though. They don't become interesting till either magic versions are available or I get more attacks from my BAB as at the moment it's more beneficial if they are natural attacks instead of light slashing.

Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1

Meh, lame editing time

Oliar is done/ Using my claws means I have quite some excess money. Luckily that fits perfectly with being a follower of the Prophecies of Kalistrade.

Hmm, Alexei is Chelaxian. Looks like a possible cause of tension between him and Oliar (who has been a slave in Cheliax).

As for the language thing, Oliar might just take it upon himself to learn Celestial (assuming he does get along with Alexei)

EDIT: Oh, and if anyone ever calls him Snowball you might end up getting scratched (because yes, he looks like the avatar I picked for him)

Male Human (Chelaxian) Oracle of Life 4 [ HP: 39/39 | AC: 21 T: 11 FF: 20 | F: +4 R: +3 W: +6 | Init: +7 Per: +5 | 1st: 6/7 2nd: 4/4 | Channel: 4/5 EB: 4/4 | Effects: None ]

Alexei was born outside of Cheliax, and his parents were simple merchants. He's worked as a mercenary long enough to know it's not what you are or where you're from, but if you can do your job well.

I think you'd have to do something immensely stupid for him to get frustrated enough to call you "כדור-שלג!"

Celestial:
Snowball!

M Ulfen Brawler 6 {HP53/69; AC21, T13, FF19; F+11 R+5 W+6; Init+2; Perc+7}

Eh, I suppose I'm done with Bjorn as well.

M Half-orc Monk (Martial Artist) 5 {HP 43/44; AC16(20), T16, FF13(17); F+7 R+7 W+7; Init+2; Perc+10} {Effects: none}

I done with Harold as well.

I have made the first official post for the campaign, so feel free to start posting! Please include a physical description as part of your post.

I have also reached out to our final member via PM and I'll update as needed on his status.

Since I'm running these two groups concurrently, the first few posts are going to be identical, but the stories will diverge soon. Nothing too far away from the original AP, but enough to make sure everyone is getting their own experience.

I'm going to start reviewing characters and I'll let people know if I have questions or issues.

I should not be this excited to write a couple sentences.

Very much looking forward to going places with this!

M Ulfen Brawler 6 {HP53/69; AC21, T13, FF19; F+11 R+5 W+6; Init+2; Perc+7}

Same there. I've very excited about starting this.

If our dwarf friend ends up dropping out for whatever reason I would not be opposed to pressing on with five.

M Ulfen Brawler 6 {HP53/69; AC21, T13, FF19; F+11 R+5 W+6; Init+2; Perc+7}

Oliar, where do you sit on the monstrous PC ostracism scale?

One being you want to be treated like catfolk are a totally normal part of society and ten being you are a monster that should be hated and reviled.

I figured I should gauge where you stand before I make things uncomfortable for you. =P

I know some people play monstrous characters and like the RP experience of overcoming social adversity. Others, not as much.

Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1

If you ask me Catfolk aren't really "monstrous", not any more than your regular Half-Orc anyway (and in a land so close to Belkzen they are likely less monstrous).

The way I see it they are weird and exotic and warrant both caution and curiosity, but people have heard enough stories to know they aren't monsters out to eat their babies. Most stories probably are about their acrobatic prowess and their tendency to steal though, so it's a bit of a "Wow, a catfolk here? Never seen one of those before, cool. Now stay away from my things!" So I'd say somewhere around 5, with lower scores from more worldly/curious/adventurous people and higher for superstitious bumpkins :P

But considering Bjorn is an Ulfen and they are known to be superstitious I can see him being weirded out.

EDIT: I do enjoy overcoming the adversity of being a weird race some times, but I don't consider it fully relevant for Oliar. If I wanted that now I would have picked a Tiefling or something like that.

M Ulfen Brawler 6 {HP53/69; AC21, T13, FF19; F+11 R+5 W+6; Init+2; Perc+7}

Well I consider catfolk solidly in the monstrous camp, but that's why I checked with you.

5 is, "Oh my god, a monster... oh maybe he's not so bad" territory.

Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1

So basically what you'd expect from seeing a Half-Orc in a country next to Belkzen, maybe a little less :)

M Ulfen Brawler 6 {HP53/69; AC21, T13, FF19; F+11 R+5 W+6; Init+2; Perc+7}

I'd rank catfolk quite a bit higher than half-orcs. Half-orcs are fairly common, especially in this region.

Do catfolk even have an established area in Golarion? I don't imagine, aside from Oliar, that Bjorn has even seen one before.

Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1

While Half-Orcs are more common, the Orcs of Belkzen, and by extension Half-Orcs, are also hated and feared.

As for known Catfolk settlement: Not in the Inner Sea Region (or the Dragon Empires for that matter).

M Ulfen Brawler 6 {HP53/69; AC21, T13, FF19; F+11 R+5 W+6; Init+2; Perc+7}

Ah, there's the misunderstanding we're having. For Bjorn, and I imagine others, an unknown is scarier than a known evil.

Bjorn is indifferent about half-orcs. He's seen them around enough by now that they're just another Southern race to him.

Catfolk, on the other hand, are monstrous and entirely unknown to him.

Wouldn't you flip out if an anthropomorphic cat just popped up and started talking?

Male Human (Chelaxian) Oracle of Life 4 [ HP: 39/39 | AC: 21 T: 11 FF: 20 | F: +4 R: +3 W: +6 | Init: +7 Per: +5 | 1st: 6/7 2nd: 4/4 | Channel: 4/5 EB: 4/4 | Effects: None ]

Alexei is the trusting sort, or at the very least, is willing to assume that someone the Professor hand-picked to assist in his funeral is worthy of being trusted until proven untrustworthy.

M Half-orc Monk (Martial Artist) 5 {HP 43/44; AC16(20), T16, FF13(17); F+7 R+7 W+7; Init+2; Perc+10} {Effects: none}

Until the cat tries to steal his breath while he's sleeping, Harold is indifferent to Oliar being a giant, talking furball. There is Suffering enough to go around if does turn out to be some crazed lycanthrope. *fits his alchemical silver brass knuckle over his fingers*

Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1

Which reminds me that I need to get my hands on the Steal Breath spell somehow. Sadly it being a level 2 spell excludes it from the Major Magic Rogue talent.

Go Dawgs! (My wife is a UGA grad.) I'm from Appalachia, so I think I can carry the 'Suthern' accent.

UGA grad myself, and also from (and currently in) Georgia.

Also, I'm going to run this with a "really strange in these lands, but not entirely unknown" view of Oliar and the catfolk. Definitely not trying to tell anybody how to play their character, just trying to give some idea about NPC reactions. He will frequently be met with curiosity, and possibly a little trepidation, but a vast majority will recognize his race, even if they don't know much about it.
