Half+1 or roll, your choice. Rolls are done on the boards, and you can decide every time your character gains a level.

Half-elf Ranger (Guide) 4 / Rogue 2 HP: (37/37) 49/49 / Init +4; Perception +16; AC 18/13/16; F+(3) 5, R+9, W+5; CMD: 21; Conditions: Mummy Rot - Con Damage: 4, Cha Damage: 4

Thanks. I think I'll play it safe and go with half+1

Karl is now ranger1/rogue2
+1 BAB, +1 Reflex
SQ evasion and rogue talent (combat trick(quick draw))
Feat: Iron Will
Skill Ranks: Acrobatics, Climb, Disable Device, Knowledge(Local), Perception, Sense Motive, Stealth, Survival
Favored Class Bonus: +1 hp

Male Human Alchemist 4 (HP 28/28 - AC15, T13, FF12 - F+5 R+6 W+2 - Init+2 - Perc+8) (Effects: +2 save vs Poison)

Haven't had a chance to level yet - sorry, it's starting to get to that insane, busy part of the year. I'll get leveled by Monday.

Half-elf Ranger (Guide) 4 / Rogue 2 HP: (37/37) 49/49 / Init +4; Perception +16; AC 18/13/16; F+(3) 5, R+9, W+5; CMD: 21; Conditions: Mummy Rot - Con Damage: 4, Cha Damage: 4

Uh, these are undead, not demons...

All, these are some changes I'm considering; please review and let me know if any of them seem inappropriate or cause problems for you.

Most of you do some or most of these requests already, so hopefully I'm not asking for a significant time investment or additional work on your part.

I'm asking for these changes because over the past six months, I've figured out where many of my biggest "time sinks" happen as I'm running the games, and these adjustments will significantly reduce the amount of time it takes me to adjudicate the action and make appropriate responses. Thanks!

Character Footer
I would like everyone to update their character name footer in the following format:

Details:
M Human (Subtype) Cleric 1 {HP9; AC19, T13, FF16; F+4 R+4 W+5; Init+6; Perc+7} {Effects: None}

This information can be placed in the “Class” cell on the Profile page.

Keeping current hit point and condition effects as OOC text in posts during combat is fine with me, I don’t expect you to update your profile every time something happens. But after combat is concluded and the character moves on, please update the profile with pertinent information.

Additionally, please post current spell selection whenever a spell is cast; I don’t need to see it in every post.

Rolling Dice
When rolling dice, please tell me what the character is doing. For example:

Good: {dice=Perception]d20+6[/dice]
Confusing: {dice]d20+6[/dice]

Good: {dice=Attack, battleaxe, power attack, furious focus, flank]d20+4-1+1+2
Confusing: {dice]d20+4-1+1+2[/dice]

For attacks and damage, you only need to type everything out the first time if you make multiple attacks with the same modifiers. If the attack changes, please note it accordingly (i.e. “same as before without flank” suffices).

Liberty's Edge

Works fine for me - plenty of other DMs use similar rules. I'll update Shanoa's status bar accordingly.

Male Human Alchemist 4 (HP 28/28 - AC15, T13, FF12 - F+5 R+6 W+2 - Init+2 - Perc+8) (Effects: +2 save vs Poison)

Noted. STILL haven't had the time to update Roland. (Ugh). I swear I will get this done ASAP.

Half-elf Ranger (Guide) 4 / Rogue 2 HP: (37/37) 49/49 / Init +4; Perception +16; AC 18/13/16; F+(3) 5, R+9, W+5; CMD: 21; Conditions: Mummy Rot - Con Damage: 4, Cha Damage: 4

Oh and Count B, your flanking plan sounds like a good one. From now on, Shanoa will be Karl's preferred flanking partner.

Male Gnome Wizard (Fire) 3 (HP 19/24 AC 13, T 13, FF 11/ F +3, R +3, W +3/ Init. +2/ Per. +2)

HP roll: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

I added ranks in Appraise, K: Engineering, Planes & Religion, Linguistics and Spellcraft. From Linguistics I added Ignan as a language.

The two spells I added to my spellbook are Pilfering Hand and Scorching Ray.

For my feat I took Cypher Script which cuts the cost and time of copying spells into my spellbook by half and they only take up half as much space.

Holiday hours:
My wife and I are loading the baby up and heading to see family on Christmas, Dec 25th. I do not anticipate being able to post that day. As of now, that is the only day I expect to be away from the computer.

Male Human Alchemist 4 (HP 28/28 - AC15, T13, FF12 - F+5 R+6 W+2 - Init+2 - Perc+8) (Effects: +2 save vs Poison)

The holidays are usually pretty crazy for me, but I'm not out of town, so I'll be able to keep an eye on the forums. Certainly, I shouldn't be posting any less than I currently do...

Liberty's Edge

Yeah, don't stress it. Happy holidays!

Human M Human Fighter 3 Paladin 1 {HP37/37; AC19/11/18; F+7 R+4 W+4; Init+5; Perc+3}

Alrighty, I was planning on going Paladin but I think I'll do one more level of Fighter. I also think it would be better to multiclass into Paladin when I have more of a roleplaying reason to do so -- why would I suddenly become a warrior for the church of Iomedae in the middle of a dungeon somewhere surrounded by undead?

I'm going to play it safe and take the half + 1, so adding 7 hp.

For my Feat, I'll take Combat Reflexes. I'll update my character sheet when I get time!

Shadow Lodge

F Human Inquisitor 4 {HP32/32; AC16/12/14; F+5 R+4 W+8; Init+7; Perc+10}

DM Haldhin:

Trying to avoid metagaming here (again?) but just out of curiosity did you boost the stats of this burning skeleton? Normally 6 points of damage would be enough to defeat it (Disrupt Undead has no will save and isn't subject to DR).

Human M Human Fighter 3 Paladin 1 {HP37/37; AC19/11/18; F+7 R+4 W+4; Init+5; Perc+3}

Okay, updated character sheet with the new level of Fighter.

Darren, for character planning, you'll have a chance to interact with the Church in the next chapter of CC, so you won't have to wait too long.

Shanoa:
I'm actually using the stats in the adventure (with one small tweak that doesn't affect hit points) - I guess now that I think about it, it's actually an advanced burning skeleton. Going forward, I'll try to make sure it's clear in the Monster Lore spoilers when a creature may have different abilities than the usual version of its type. Sorry about that, let me know if you want to change your action.

Feel free to include something in the IC thread about it being tougher than usual.

Half-elf Ranger (Guide) 4 / Rogue 2 HP: (37/37) 49/49 / Init +4; Perception +16; AC 18/13/16; F+(3) 5, R+9, W+5; CMD: 21; Conditions: Mummy Rot - Con Damage: 4, Cha Damage: 4

I may be out of pocket until Wednesday. If you all need to proceed, Karl will power attack with flank and the Lopper's Axe.

Male Human Alchemist 4 (HP 28/28 - AC15, T13, FF12 - F+5 R+6 W+2 - Init+2 - Perc+8) (Effects: +2 save vs Poison)

Oh, I forgot to mention, I took the average HP on my level. Skill points were mostly spread around existing skills - though I did pop a point into Perform (Wind Instrument).

Belated Happy New Year to everyone, I hope people are planning an exciting 2013 for themselves. I told my wife I wanted triplets this year, which resulted in a punch to the arm, and questioning of my sobriety (I have an 8-month old son, and he's great, but adding triplets to that mix would be insane).

I want to let people know that we're quickly approaching the end of the first Carrion Crown adventure, Haunting of Harrowstone. My intention is to continue the series by offering the next adventure, Trial of the Beast. Hopefully everyone wants to remain a part of the group, but if anyone would like to recuse themselves, it's not a problem, but I would ask that you let me know.

That said, if you do plan to keep adventuring (and I hope you do!), please give some thought to creating or updating a "wish list" of items your character might be interested in obtaining. Unless something really strange happens, characters will be 4th level by the end of the adventure as they head toward Lepidstadt, a city of almost 10,000 people and plenty of small shops brimming with items both useful and cursed...er... blessed. I mean blessed!

No rush on the item list, just wanted to mention it as we get toward the end of the adventure.

Also, if you have any unusual requests for character advancement, NPC interactions, or some other unusual request that would add to the depth and/or growth of your character, don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks!

Human M Human Fighter 3 Paladin 1 {HP37/37; AC19/11/18; F+7 R+4 W+4; Init+5; Perc+3}

That's excellent news, Haldhin!

Unfortunately I have some somewhat lame news on my part -- I will be disappearing again today for at least 2 days starting after this post. I am going on a jungle trek in a national park in Laos and will be out of contact with the real world until Sunday, likely Monday.

Hopefully this doesn't slow the game down much, especially with this strange voice appearing in Darren's head, but if it becomes necessary I invite anyone who would like to take over Darren's roleplaying to please do so until I get back.

I will certainly put some thought into the Wish List.

No problem, have fun on the hike.

Male Gnome Wizard (Fire) 3 (HP 19/24 AC 13, T 13, FF 11/ F +3, R +3, W +3/ Init. +2/ Per. +2)

I have every intention of staying with the game. I believe that when we first started I had been mulling the possibility of going into the Loremaster PrC. I'm still mulling that but it's still a few levels away (7th or 8th I think).

As for magic items, I'm an old grognard hailing from the days when you took what items the DM gave you and made do. I think it takes away some of the mystery when you can plan out your treasure "growth" right from 1st level. It's one of the reasons why I never make my wizards into crafters.

Male Human Alchemist 4 (HP 28/28 - AC15, T13, FF12 - F+5 R+6 W+2 - Init+2 - Perc+8) (Effects: +2 save vs Poison)

Despite my somewhat erratic posting schedule, I am fully committed to the game at present and have every intention of staying on if I'm welcome. :)

As my character's backstory is tied to the university at Lepidstadt I think it would pretty lame of me to bail out before we go there.

Item-wise I'm pretty set right now. Maybe a nicer cane (read: club) at some point? I'm not too fussy and can work around what we find for the most part.

My further discoveries will lead me toward natural attacks anyway...

Shadow Lodge

F Human Inquisitor 4 {HP32/32; AC16/12/14; F+5 R+4 W+8; Init+7; Perc+10}

I'd like to find someone who can enchant my current masterwork morningstar. Eventually I'd like a mithril breastplate, but that probably won't happen for awhile.

I'm definitely in this for the long haul, though. I'm really enjoying the direction my character's going and look forward to more growth.

3 Cleric (Crusader) AC 19/ HP26/26 Fort 5, Ref 1, Will 6, Initiative 2

"I taken what you're given 'cause I'm workin' for a livin'." I will be staying aboard this ship, friend. I plan to stay straight on the cleric path all the way through. I have come to dislike multiclassing quite a bit and now plan to stay one class in most of my games.

Half-elf Ranger (Guide) 4 / Rogue 2 HP: (37/37) 49/49 / Init +4; Perception +16; AC 18/13/16; F+(3) 5, R+9, W+5; CMD: 21; Conditions: Mummy Rot - Con Damage: 4, Cha Damage: 4

Karl is done with his dalliance as a rogue and will be a ranger for the remainder of his adventuring career.

Frankly, I'm more than happy to tell you what I'd like to see in terms of gear.

Mithral armor (chain mail ok, breastplate = awesome)
Magic Falchion (keen)
Masterwork Composite Longbow (+4 Str rating)
silver arrows, cold iron arrows, blunt arrows, ghost salt weapon blanch (for arrows)
Strength belt (Dex is also ok, but strength is preferable)
Boots of Speed
Cloak of Resistance
Ring of Protection
Amulet of Natural Armor
Headband of Wisdom
Bracers of Archery

Other stuff as I think of it.

Thanks

Human M Human Fighter 3 Paladin 1 {HP37/37; AC19/11/18; F+7 R+4 W+4; Init+5; Perc+3}

My character sheet has been updated with a Wish List, but I also agree with Oorin and I like making do with whatever we find. But the longsword is definitely something I'll be searching for.

Human M Human Fighter 3 Paladin 1 {HP37/37; AC19/11/18; F+7 R+4 W+4; Init+5; Perc+3}

DM Haldhin:
So I just realized that I've been playing my character lately as having the Power Attack feat, except I don't...

I thought I already had it when we leveled up to 3, but apparently didn't, and chose Combat Expertise instead. I was wondering if, since I've already been playing that way and haven't yet benefited from Combat Reflexes, if I could change it to Power Attack.

Thanks! I'll be rolling w/out Power Attack until I get clarification

Darren:
Totally fine if you want to go with Power Attack.

Shadow Lodge

F Human Inquisitor 4 {HP32/32; AC16/12/14; F+5 R+4 W+8; Init+7; Perc+10}

Just out of curiosity, would a Hallow spell + Permanency work here to relieve her of her duties? I wouldn't be able to cast Hallow until level 13, but Franc could do it at level 9 - still not exactly anytime soon but something to remember down the line. Oorin would then have to cast Permanency, but should be able to by then as well.

All excellent ideas, and yes, those would all work. But the adventure has Pharasma (or some other deity) taking pity upon poor Vesorianna. :)

In other news, congratulations, that's the official end of the adventure, The Haunting of Harrowstone!

I have a couple of epilogue IC posts to make, then I'll upload all of the adventure treasure (yay, treasure!) and item marketplace (yay, places to spend treasure!) worksheets.

After that, it's on to the next adventure - The Trial of the Beast!

Shadow Lodge

F Human Inquisitor 4 {HP32/32; AC16/12/14; F+5 R+4 W+8; Init+7; Perc+10}

Technically we still have to stay in town for the full 30 days, right? I imagine there's some RP we'll want to do during that time as well.

The IC posts I am going to write provide some opportunities for RP with the townsfolk. If you want to speak with anybody else, I'm happy to help with that as well.

In other news, everyone has reached 4th level!

Half-elf Ranger (Guide) 4 / Rogue 2 HP: (37/37) 49/49 / Init +4; Perception +16; AC 18/13/16; F+(3) 5, R+9, W+5; CMD: 21; Conditions: Mummy Rot - Con Damage: 4, Cha Damage: 4

Huzzah! Level 4:
Ranger(Guide)2 / Rogue 2:
half+1 hp = 5+1+1Con+1FC=8, total 34
+1 BAB
+1 Fort, +1 Ref +0 Will
+1 Wisdom (now 14) (bump Will save, perception, and other Wis based skills)
Combat Style Feat (Rapid Shot)
Skill Points 6: Acrobatics, Disable Device, Perception, Ride, Stealth, Survival

Human M Human Fighter 3 Paladin 1 {HP37/37; AC19/11/18; F+7 R+4 W+4; Init+5; Perc+3}

Should I go ahead and just take my level in Paladin, or maybe wait for a better RPing opportunity to level up 'officially'?

Human M Human Fighter 3 Paladin 1 {HP37/37; AC19/11/18; F+7 R+4 W+4; Init+5; Perc+3}

Alright I just figured once we're back in town I could spend some more time in prayer, or if there's a church of Iomedae then maybe I could be sworn in as a Paladin in her service.

That was a great adventure, everyone -- normally I'd not expect such a dungeon-crawly experience to work so well in PbP, but I've enjoyed every post and every encounter. Here's to looking forward to the next one!

1d10 ⇒ 9
Level 4 Ability increase: Charisma, 13 --> 14
Skills (3): Diplomacy (2 ranks), Sense Motive (1 rank)

Hopefully someone could clear this up for me... but I'm uncertain how this should affect my Fortitude save: at 1st level of Paladin I get +2 Fort and +2 Will, but I've already had a boosted Fortitude save from Fighter. Because of this should I get +1 on my Fort and +2 on my Will, or does the +2 apply on both saves?

Thanks, this is a fun group to run. I'm running two others, and it's interesting to see how the different groups respond to the various challenges. For example, one of my groups just dove off the adventure path in the very first encounter of Trial of the Beast. Makes for some fun RPing, but it was totally unexpected. :)

Darren Cayle wrote:

Go ahead and take it. Not every paladin goes through a special ceremony - some of them are promoted in the field. See this book if you are interested in how somebody can become a paladin. I'm not a huge fan of the author, but the story of Paksnarrion (the heroine in the novel) is a really great take on the "normal person becomes a holy warrior" trope.

Regarding your level up - take the saves according to the class level you choose. You will be a Fighter 3/Paladin 1, so your base saves will be those for a Fighter 3 plus Paladin 1:

For: (+3 & +2) = +5
Ref: (+1 & +0) = +1
Wil: (+1 & +2) = +3

I plan on posting the first of the epilogues in a while.

Shadow Lodge

hp: 1d8 ⇒ 8

I'll take it!

Working on leveling up now.

Can I take a spell from Faiths of Purity? Weapons Against Evil

Male Gnome Wizard (Fire) 3 (HP 19/24 AC 13, T 13, FF 11/ F +3, R +3, W +3/ Init. +2/ Per. +2)

Not rolling for hp anymore; with my Con, that adds 6.
Will save goes up by +1.
Raising Int from 17 to 18.
Taking an extra skill point for favored class.
Taking a first skill rank in: K (Dungeoneering), K (Nobility), Perception, and Sense Motive.
Adding one rank each to: K (Arcana) (Engineering) (Planes) (Religion), Linguistics, and Spellcraft.
Spells added to spellbook: Burning Gaze, Knock (both 2nd level).
Added languages from INT increase and Linguistics: Goblin, Infernal

Will spend some off-time and money transcribing some spells from the ghost's spellbook to my own. The Cipher Script feat I took last level cuts the time and cost to do so by half so it shouldn't be too bad.

Huh, just made the changes to my profile and it saved absolutely nothing. Will try again later.

I can help RP a paladin ceremony if necessary as a priest of a knight god it would be appropriate.

You know, that sparks an idea ...

I'm going to keep this around for use at a later date. :)

Male Human Alchemist 4 (HP 28/28 - AC15, T13, FF12 - F+5 R+6 W+2 - Init+2 - Perc+8) (Effects: +2 save vs Poison)

Take the 4 hp, add +1 for Con and +1 for Favoured Class - that's 6 total.
Fort and Reflex saves +1
Strength +1
Skill Points added to Craft (Alchemy), Disable Devices, Knowledge (Arcana), (History), (Nature), Perception, Spellcraft and Use Magic Device
Formulas Added: Bull's Strength and Restoration, Lesser

I will spend some of our down-time prepping more alchemical fire (of which I have one brewing, still) and acid, as well as some potions of CLW and/or Lesser Restoration.

I'd like to make some more bottles of holy water. Technically I could make a ton of it for just the price of the flasks, but I specifically said I didn't want to abuse your generosity for the houserule so should we say maybe 10 before we move on?

Male Gnome Wizard (Fire) 3 (HP 19/24 AC 13, T 13, FF 11/ F +3, R +3, W +3/ Init. +2/ Per. +2)

I still can't update my profile. I type all the information in and then it kicks me back to the main product page.

Shanoa, 10 is fine. Not to spoil too much, but you shouldn't need that many for the next two or three adventures.

Oorin, I think they're working on the site. The layout on my campaign tab keeps changing. Hopefully you'll be able to update soon.

I actually have all of this AP, and briefly glanced through it when it first came out, so I know more or less what is to come, but I'm trying not to let that interfere with what my character knows. Her primary concern is undead, as that's almost all she's had to face up to now, so that will be her primary focus. I imagine that by the time she faces much more undead, she'll have significantly better means of disposing of them anyways, but I just really like the image of her with a handful of the flasks tied at her side, gently clinking reassuringly as she walks along. It's her security blanket. ;)

Darren Cayle wrote:
Alright I just figured once we're back in town I could spend some more time in prayer, or if there's a church of Iomedae then maybe I could be sworn in as a Paladin in her service.

I imagine different deities handle paladinhood differently. For example I play a paladin of Erastil in a Kingmaker game, and all she did to become a paladin was spend a rainy night in a lodge/shrine and in secret pledge her service to him. And as Ol' Deadeye has less of an organized clergy, that worked really well. For other religions with a more established hierarchy, there may be a degree of pomp and ceremony involved. I could see Iomedae being along those lines.

Pharasma in particular probably has significant rites involved at least here in Ustalav where worship is prevalent. However, she doesn't have paladins.

Male Human Alchemist 4 (HP 28/28 - AC15, T13, FF12 - F+5 R+6 W+2 - Init+2 - Perc+8) (Effects: +2 save vs Poison)

The Faiths of Purity (and there's one in Faiths of Balance) book has a great writeup on the Paladin Codes of the various different faiths that support the LG knightly orders.

Lots of good flavour that really shows how different the various Pathfinder faiths approach paladinhood.

I've actually been itching to make a Paladin of Shelyn ever since that book came out.

Male Gnome Wizard (Fire) 3 (HP 19/24 AC 13, T 13, FF 11/ F +3, R +3, W +3/ Init. +2/ Per. +2)

I'm playing a Paladin of Shelyn in a Jade Regent game. I was also inspired by the codes in Faiths of Purity. It's a tricky code to follow. In particular (for adventurers anyway; paraphrased) is: Act to prevent violence before it blossoms, never strike first unless it is the only way to protect innocents, and always accept surrender if the opponent can be redeemed while never assuming the can't.

I was disappointed that Faiths of Balance did not include codes for Abadar and Irori who, by alignment anyway, could have had paladins. I tried asking if, in Golarion, those two deities don't have paladins but I couldn't get an answer from JJ.

Actually, the Paladin Code of Abadar is in a sidebar on page 27 of "Faiths of Balance." :)

As for Irori... looks like they accidentally forgot to add one to the Dragon Empire Primer.

James Jacobs wrote:

Dang.

And unfortunately, "whipping one up" isn't easy. The act of designing and writing things like this takes a fair bit of time—which is why I'd been hoping to pay a freelancer to do so. Anyway... it apparently doesn't exist yet, so maybe someday we'll get around to doing an Irori paladin code...

... but at the same time, there's no organized Irori paladinhoods, so if ANY one of the deities who has paladins doesn't ever get a code writeup... Irori's the one.

Male Gnome Wizard (Fire) 3 (HP 19/24 AC 13, T 13, FF 11/ F +3, R +3, W +3/ Init. +2/ Per. +2)

Huh, can't believe I missed Abadar's code there. I do need to look at the Dragon Empires stuff again; they have some different deities and it would be interesting to examine again how paladins might function there.

DM Haldhin: If it's okay, I'd like to swap out one of the spells I gained at level up for a different one. I'd like to drop Burning Gaze and take Burning Arc instead.
