Okay, Cassandra is leveled up and ready to go.

Human M Human Fighter 3 Paladin 1 {HP37/37; AC19/11/18; F+7 R+4 W+4; Init+5; Perc+3}

I'm here and ready, as well! And I don't mind the wait, whenever works best. I'm still trying to read and catch up whenever I find time.

Welcome new people!

Also, sorry I've been away the past two days - my weekends line up funny due to work and the past two days have been packed.

Good to have you again Cassandra! Looking forward to playing with you again. Also Derron, welcome! You should know that we killed the last Paladin who tried to play with us ;)

Darren and Cassandra, here is some basic info on your intro:

Intro details:
Both of you received the letter about Professor Lorrimor’s demise, and you quickly made your way to Ravengro. Unfortunately, you never arrived.

Your entry into the game…
You will be found by the party as they explore the prison. For the past week or so, you have been drifting in and out of consciousness. You will wake with only ½ your total hit points. Your memory is clear about heading toward Ravengro to attend the Professor’s funeral, then you ended up inside the prison. The only other things you remember are somebody called “The Golden Lord” or “His Golden Lord”, and a reference to “whispering ones”.

OOC
Here is what actually happened:
You both passed Harrowstone prison on your way to Ravengro. The Whispering Way, however, was watching the roads for anyone who might intrude on their activities. You were ambushed, knocked unconscious, and dragged into the prison. For several days, you were subjected to intense magical interrogation. Fortunately, the nature of the questioning also caused you to forget the pain you suffered.
Your captors were unsurprised at your answers; you were, after all, simple strangers on the road. But they couldn’t take any chances as they finished their rituals. For a number of reasons, they eventually decided to leave you in the prison, expecting the angry ghosts to take out their vengeance upon you. Thankfully, they left you in a room that the other ghosts would not approach, thus sparing your lives.

Please feel free to ask any questions you might have, just do so in spoiler format for now.

Also, I have attempted to create a treasure list for the group. I've posted it to the Google Drive. I would appreciate it if everyone could take a look when you have a few minutes to see if there is anything I've forgotten or missed. I intend to maintain this list going forward, it's just the "catching up" part I need help with at this point.

Thanks!

Haha, I've been wondering what happens to old Michael... (I'm only around page 8 or 9 so far). I've never actually played a Paladin, but I think I'll lean towards justified brutality in the name of defeating evil rather than really focusing on the morality of every situation.

Intro Question:
So we will be at half HP, but should we assume that we will be without equipment at first?

EDIT: Ah, it was a case of RL that got the poor Paladin... I understand, now, hah.

Male Gnome Wizard (Fire) 3 (HP 19/24 AC 13, T 13, FF 11/ F +3, R +3, W +3/ Init. +2/ Per. +2)

You know, I completely forgot we had those Haunt Siphons. I've been trying to find the post where what they do is described but I haven't found it. Can someone refesh my memory?

I never played a Paladin in PF until Faiths of Purity came out and gave a Paladin code for each good deity (except for Desna and Cayden who are more than one step removed from LG). I picked Shelyn as her code is very different from what most people would probably think of as a typical code.

Shadow Lodge

F Human Inquisitor 4 {HP32/32; AC16/12/14; F+5 R+4 W+8; Init+7; Perc+10}

I never had a desire to play a paladin until the Kingmaker AP came out. With the AP were a couple of articles about Erastil, since he plays a major role (or at least is featured prominently) in the region.

The messageboards went WILD for awhile with feminists claiming they simply couldn't believe that Erastil could be counted as a "good" deity since he believes in traditional gender roles, and that meant you couldn't play a female paladin or cleric of Erastil and that they didn't want to even play the campaign at all due to him being featured.

Wow. So out of an almost direct response to all that I went and made a female paladin of Erastil. My criteria were as follows:

  • Make a paladin who isn't annoying, lawful stupid, or a holier-than-thou righteous zealot.
  • Figure out how a female paladin of Erastil might come to be, considering and working within the restraints given by Erastil's teachings and his clergy.

I ended up getting into a Kingmaker PbP with the character, and it's turned out to be my longest running PbP and favorite character I've ever played (closely followed by a halfling slave exotic dancer/courtesan I played in a Legacy of Fire campaign).

Honestly the main thing that helped for me was the realization that nobody is born a Paladin, so what kinds of things might happen in their life to push them in that direction? What kinds of things might they have done in the past before that decision that they might not be proud of (essential for avoiding the holier-than-thou trap)?

Anyways, I'm glad to have you with us - just wanted to make sure you knew my comment about killing paladins earlier was in jest - we shed tears over his death ;)

Intro Question:
It's stashed across the room on a table, no need to remove or change anything on your sheets.

Hey all, just got home from a marathon trip from Chicago-NY-Chicago and am too exhausted to post much. Just wanted to let you know I'm still here.
Good news is I passed my audition to be on Who Wants to be a Millionaire, now I just have to wait to see if I'm selected as a contestant.

Oorin, there's a description of the haunt siphons in my profile.

Good luck Cassandra, I'm a Chicago native myself, although my wife and I moved down to Houston eighteen months ago to be near her family and start our own.

Weird, I actually had a similar experience with that book - the Shelyn code was very unique, and a glaive wielding paladin who loves art and beauty piqued my interest.

I also loved the statutes of "Try to find the beauty in all things" and, essentially, "Last into a fight, last out of a fight."

Abadar's paladin code that popped up in the Faiths of Balance book - apparently there was supposed to be one for Irori, too but it was cut for space?

Male Gnome Wizard (Fire) 3 (HP 19/24 AC 13, T 13, FF 11/ F +3, R +3, W +3/ Init. +2/ Per. +2)

I'll have to take another look at Faiths of Balance when I get home. I don't recall seeing a code for Abadar either. That was my big disappointment when the book came out was that there were no Codes for Abadar and Irori.

Cheliax

Male Human (Chelaxian) Wizard (Diviner)/1

Paladins of Abadar:

Of all the gods of balance, only one supports and promotes
a holy order of paladins: Abadar. As the god of civilization
and order, Abadar recognizes the value of holy warriors in
advancing society’s aims. His paladins follow the standard
paladin code of protecting the innocent, acting with honor
and honesty, and respecting lawful authority. In addition,
an Abadaran paladin upholds the following creed.
• I am a protector of the roadways and keep travelers from
harm. No matter their destinations or goals, if they are
peaceable and legitimate travelers who harm no others
on the road, I will ensure that they pass safely.
• Bandits are a plague. Under my will they come to justice.
If they will not come willingly before the law, where they
can protest for justice in the courts, they will come under
the power of my sword.
• Corruption in the courts is the greatest corruption
of civilization. Without confidence in justice, citizens
cannot believe in their countries, and civilization begins
to disappear. I will root out corruption wherever I find it,
and if a system is fundamentally flawed, I will work to aid
citizens by reforming or replacing it.
• I am an aid to the markets. I ensure equitable trade between
merchants and citizens. Theft on either side is intolerable.
• I make opportunities, and teach others to recognize
them. When I aid others, I open the way for them, but
will not carry them—they must take responsibility

It's in a sidebar on page 27.

Male Gnome Wizard (Fire) 3 (HP 19/24 AC 13, T 13, FF 11/ F +3, R +3, W +3/ Init. +2/ Per. +2)

Ah, thanks, I see it now. An interesting code. I don't know how I missed it in the "Minor Items of Faith" chapter of the book :/ So no Paladins for Irori. I guess that isn't really too surprising.

Did I miss our intro scene? With the problems I've been having with the dots disappearing and so forth I'm having a hard time following any of my PbP's.

Not yet. The group had two directions to choose from - they (unknowingly) chose the one that led away from you guys. But they're coming back your direction and are only a room away at this point, so it will happen today or tomorrow.

And yeah on those issues, I'm having to click through all my threads just to see what's been happening. Frustrating.

Darren and Cassandra, you'll be showing up tomorrow as the party moves into the next room. I'll have some descriptive text, then you are both free to post.

Thanks for being patient!

All,
Just letting everyone know I will be out of town from Thursday, October 11 through Sunday, October 14, and I will not be able to post until I return.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm sure we'll survive while you're gone.

Male Human Alchemist 4 (HP 28/28 - AC15, T13, FF12 - F+5 R+6 W+2 - Init+2 - Perc+8) (Effects: +2 save vs Poison)

All righty, folks.

Sad to say, that's it for me for a few weeks. I'll be back at the end of October, looking to jump back into the gothics and the horrors around Halloween time.

Try not to get into too much trouble (or get me killed!) while I'm away! :D

Goodbye Roland, nice to meet you and sad to see you dip out for a while so soon! Can't wait to get up and going again in a few days ;)

All, I'm back in town and will be posting again tomorrow. I appreciate everyone's patience.

Just letting everyone know I have updated the Campaign Info tab with our new characters, as well as clarifying the direct link to the shared folder containing our tactical maps, pictures, etc.

Awesome, thanks Haldhin. Also, on the treasure list, I didn't see the +1 shortsword and dagger we found on that whispering way corpse in the crypt.

Ah, nice catch, I was planning to update the treasure lists on Sunday so I'll be sure to add them.

Thanks, Karl. I appreciate you double-checking my work! :)

Human M Human Fighter 3 Paladin 1 {HP37/37; AC19/11/18; F+7 R+4 W+4; Init+5; Perc+3}

Sorry for the disappearance, everyone. I'm currently working out on a farm in the Irish countryside, and the satelite internet in the whole area crapped out a few days ago (or so my hosts told me) and they just t got back up and running today. Glad to see things continue w/out me, and I should be back to regular posting from now on!

Male Gnome Wizard (Fire) 3 (HP 19/24 AC 13, T 13, FF 11/ F +3, R +3, W +3/ Init. +2/ Per. +2)

Actually, your timing wasn't that bad. Paizo ran an update early on Tuesday and the boards got really wonky. Links weren't working, pages weren't loading, etc. It seems much better now but that was a frustrating week; especially for PbP.

Hope everyone is safe with the hurricane hitting the Northeast US today.

Shadow Lodge

I used to live in Philly (and survived a hurricane a week after I moved there) but have migrated to Colorado where I now happily reside. I agree though, I hope everyone in that part of the country is safe.

Yeesh! You guys have been busy. I'm just catching up now.

Male Human Alchemist 4 (HP 28/28 - AC15, T13, FF12 - F+5 R+6 W+2 - Init+2 - Perc+8) (Effects: +2 save vs Poison)

And I'm back in the swing of things!

Excellent RPing of me while I've been away, Haldhin! :D

I suspected we might be losing the Slaughter Priest...

Half-elf Ranger (Guide) 4 / Rogue 2 HP: (37/37) 49/49 / Init +4; Perception +16; AC 18/13/16; F+(3) 5, R+9, W+5; CMD: 21; Conditions: Mummy Rot - Con Damage: 4, Cha Damage: 4

Welcome back Roland, glad to have you with us again. Haldhin did a good job, but he doesn't quite capture Roland's unique pathos.

Glad you're back, Roland.

FWIW, I agree with Karl. I was passable as Roland, but I couldn't quite capture HIM. :)

Male Human Alchemist 4 (HP 28/28 - AC15, T13, FF12 - F+5 R+6 W+2 - Init+2 - Perc+8) (Effects: +2 save vs Poison)

Sorry folks! Had a super busy weekend (two weddings, oy) and haven't been able to get online long enough to catch up until now. Just getting up to speed and then I'll post again.

Half-elf Ranger (Guide) 4 / Rogue 2 HP: (37/37) 49/49 / Init +4; Perception +16; AC 18/13/16; F+(3) 5, R+9, W+5; CMD: 21; Conditions: Mummy Rot - Con Damage: 4, Cha Damage: 4

Welcome back Roland!

Have we lost Cassandra? It looks like s/he hasn't posted in a week.

I know work was really tough on her for a bit, but I plan to ping her this evening.

Half-elf Ranger (Guide) 4 / Rogue 2 HP: (37/37) 49/49 / Init +4; Perception +16; AC 18/13/16; F+(3) 5, R+9, W+5; CMD: 21; Conditions: Mummy Rot - Con Damage: 4, Cha Damage: 4

We have a grand total of 12 potions of clw right now, enough for everyone to carry two of them. I'm putting two on Karl's inventory, as well as one of the potions of lesser restoration. Are the scrolls of protection from Evil arcane or divine? Those should definitely come in handy in the not too distant future and I'd suggest that whoever can use them carry them.

As for the alchemical gear, I guess that should go to someone with ranks in heal. Funds should definitely be split equally and maybe we can give you the alchemical silver longsword if you want it, Darren. Also, if Arthur had one of the haunt siphons, we should definitely grab that. They come in very handy.

Human M Human Fighter 3 Paladin 1 {HP37/37; AC19/11/18; F+7 R+4 W+4; Init+5; Perc+3}

Since my Weapon Focus is longsword, I'd be happy to take it off your hands. I'll take that shortsword as well, if we need to kill something extra quick I can dual-wield the swords.

Updating character sheet with 2 pots of CLW, a +1 shortsword, & the masterwork alchemical silver Longsword.

With that, I've only got about 2 lbs. or so of carrying capacity until hitting Medium Load, but if we fill up a sack with loot Darren can lug it around no problem and drop it when combat kicks in.

Male Human Alchemist 4 (HP 28/28 - AC15, T13, FF12 - F+5 R+6 W+2 - Init+2 - Perc+8) (Effects: +2 save vs Poison)

Still here, just haven't really had anything to add the past few days.

Holiday Hours
For those who might not know, USA Thanksgiving is this Thursday, November 22. I’m heading out of town, so I will not be posting on Thursday, Nov 22 or Friday, Nov 23. Everything should return to normal on Saturday, Nov 24.

If anybody else is traveling and/or celebrating, please be safe, and enjoy the holiday.
