Aikane Redvane |
Graagh, sorry.
Fell into the dream lanes.
Jacinth had a great question last night. Aikane isn't going to outright shank the guy. Not without conferring with his peers.
He doesn't exactly recognize jacinth or nef's authoritai, but I wanted to present my three preferred outcomes.
1) he comes aboard the rita and we "reform" him of his ways
2) we have someone kill him in a duel
3) we flat out murderlize him
Worried about the dude making it back to civilization and ruining our deception.
Jacinth Deepwarder |
Responding here to keep the Gameplay thread somewhat uncluttered, hehe. Should Jacinth take more of an interest in what ultimately happens to the Captain here? Quite possibly, but she's still processing everything that has happened in the last little bit...so while she's not on board with Aikane's proposal that doesn't mean that she's in agreement with Nef and Zem's reasoning for wanting to let him go, either. She is trying to stay neutral here since she's still telling herself that the Tulita's problems and how they resolve them aren't her concern, which is why she is content to either let him go (since Nef and Zem seem to have talked Ko'oku'wa down from his thirst for vengeance somewhat) or if he has to die, let Ko'oku'wa or one of his associates do it since by her reasoning they have more of a 'right' to make that call than she or anyone else does.
Nefertiti Abdul |
He doesn't exactly recognize Jacinth or Nef's authority
You know why Aikane doesn't recognize Nef's authority? She has none.
_______________________Nef is...
- F.O.B. -- Fresh off boat. Even Rata had some other experience with the Razor before floating to shore.
- The worst sailor in the group.
- The least skilled person over all!
- A guest, who truly wants to learn from her guides, Zem, Oren and Aikane.
- Someone who wants to serve Tulitan interests -- even when those interests are in conflict, as they are here.
She has a way with words and negotiates very well, but it was Senegar that tagged her as group leader, not herself. She figures that he did that only because she was not Tulita.
_______________________
I will tell you OOC that Nef wants three things now that most of the slavers are off.
She wants to...
- Recruit new crew (that she can trust);
- Achieve, if possible, a bloodless victory that can serve the Tulita cause as news of it spreads;
- Find a sense of common purpose and heal the residual distrust that exists in our party.
Of these, the most important to her by far is the third. Can we find common ground?
Ke'ahilani |
Well, in the Savage Tide game I'm running, the player characters decided to each chip in to buy the ship and become owner/partners.
They delegated the captaincy, the quartermaster, the ships mage, the ships priest, etc.
We can do something like that here.
To make an A-team reference, Nef can be Faceman, Jacinth can be Hannibal, Aikane can be a short B.A. Baracus, Zem can be a tall B.A. Baracus, I can be Howlin' Mad Murdoch, etc.
Just whoever is best for the role.
Oren Mitabu |
I think that's probably a good idea. We need a defined order so that we don't waste several real life days over minor issues, like whether the Captain lives.
I vote Jacinth, as the Captain, to be the leader. On the water, she makes the heavy lifting calls. If she wants to give the rest of us defined roles as well. That's great with me.
Nefertiti Abdul |
Oren, I'll second that vote for Jacinth on the water.
As a party, we do great with the bulk of difficult problem solving. We pulled off on the slaver ship following Jacinth's plan what I consider to be a minor miracle. We got all the slavers but the Captain to leave, leaving all their stuff behind, while the slaves all lived. The slaves have the ship now... They're free. We likely have to provide some minor healing support... but we got out of there much better than I ever expected us to.
It's the clean up issues that we get stuck on -- Filthy Jack, Captain Hazeltree. I see the two men as very different, since the human doesn't have Dajobas whispering in his head telling him to eat people... However, I am willing to defer to Jacinth on this matter.
I'd like for us to get unstuck by having someone who can serve as leader to break ties and make final decisions once arguments are presented. I don't care who we elect so that we can keep the story moving. I'm willing to lead when needed, but I'm also willing to follow. Let's elect someone.
Then let's get Oren back in the story, celebrate our victory, and move on.
Aikane Redvane |
Jacinth is still an NPC, yall. Is that really wise?
Unless we're officially moving her to a PC, she is a part of the structured story, yes?
Some decisions have been taken from us. For that reason, the small decisions become all the more important.
The Kraken |
Just a quick note everyone:
After consulting Jacinth's player Lady Ladile via chat, she has expressed her willingness to continue playing Jacinth as a PC once the current adventure arc is completed. She will be modifying Jacinth with PC levels once you have returned to Port Shaw.
As for the leadership question, while the Kraken is strictly neutral here on this, he would find it...amusing should Ke' become leader, he he.

Aikane, these are good points.
So if we want a PC leader, here's what I'm looking for.
Someone who:
- posts at least once a day on weekdays (that knocks Ke' out of the running for me);
- moves plot forward;
- interacts with the team as a whole and tries to advance the stories of others;
- communicates clearly;
- the whole team trusts.
Looking at this list the only ones who might make this criteria are Rata, Zem and Oren. Aikane has the best overall skill set for the job, but his character doesn't share information.
Should we have an election for a tie breaker leader?
Rata Fenn |
Remind me why you're not the leader again? It seems to have been working splendidly up to this point. I don't want this campaign to lose steam solely due to semantics.
You're a great leader, and obviously you enjoy it, so lead. Aikane not always bowing to your authority just adds a little spice to the mix, does it not? Nothing wrong with that.
Nefertiti Abdul |
Um, because I was never elected to the job? You guys never got a chance to choose whom you wanted to represent you. I don't want to be a bully.
Oren Mitabu |
You are no bully, Nef.
Like Rata said, in my opinion you've basically been holding the title unofficially. I'd be happy if you'd be willing to be a tiebreaker, Nef.
Zemwaar |

I'm not sure having a 'designed leader' will actually work out for us - isn't learning to act as a group part of the game? :D
Jacinth Deepwarder |
Zem sort of mirrors my own thoughts here a little bit. The way I see it, Nef has primarily been acting in the role of leader by virtue of having the best way with words and being extremely charismatic, though she has done her best to consult with the other members of the group before making any major decisions. However, Jacinth has been acting in more of a leadership capacity while at sea due to her prior experience with captaining a vessel; she too has attempted to listen to what the others have had to say although her past behavior and status as newcomer to the group means she's having (and will have to) work to gain the trust and respect of everyone else.
In my experience with other PbP groups as well as tabletop, eventually either one or two people tend to rise to the forefront as 'leaders' or the group is able to function well enough together that different PCs take on leadership roles at different points in the story, depending on what the circumstances are. But to be honest, I don't think I've ever been in a game where the group sat down IC or OOC and said, 'Okay let's vote/decide on who our leader will be'. This situation may be different though, as we have been told to bring our A game...
*edit* All that to say, I'm fine if Nef or Zem wants to make the final call here.

Yeah, I'm not seeing the exact reason as to why this issue has come up. Isn't arguing and disagreeing all part of the show? I say we drop it and continue on. It's been getting really good since we've been at sea and I'd like to keep the roll we're on going.
Nefertiti Abdul |

If y'all want to drop it and keep going like we have been, okay. I do want us to move through this next bit so that Oren can come back to the show.
Nefertiti Abdul |
My vote would be for Ke' to lead. I think that would be very interesting.
I just gave Rata his wish... At least for this juncture. BTW, well played, Ke'!
Oren Mitabu |
I think we are now entering the sixth day of deciding the captain's fate. Can we decide one way or another relatively soon?
Nefertiti Abdul |
It's in Lani's hands. One way or another, we'll have our decision soon.
Zemwaar |
I think we are now entering the sixth day of deciding the captain's fate. Can we decide one way or another relatively soon?
I second that motion ;)
Nefertiti Abdul |
That's part of the reason I gave the decision to Lani... To end the argument and finish this out. I just hope he checks in again today. We've got crew to hire, a boat to search and then hopefully we can get out of here.
Wedjat |
"Screeeee!"
So here's MY take. Nef likes to talk. All the time. Blah, blah, blah.
_____________________________________________________
If the Kraken wants to hurry things along, he should just make sure that either:
a) Nef is gagged or
b) The bad guys keel over in a heart attack whenever you catch them.
Here's how it would work.
OPTION A:
We capture a bad guy. Someone gags Nef. Maybe Aikane. Nef tries to talk, but all that comes out is "Mmmmmph mmmmph mmmmph!" The rest of the group says, "Sorry, we can't hear you..." and they take care of the bad guy however they want.
(Zem might be a problem here, but at least he doesn't talk so much.)
OPTION B:
We capture a bad guy, and Nef says, "Oh no, let's save him!" and instead of an argument, the bad guy clutches his chest, keels over, and gives a death rattle.
Yeah, that would be AWESOME.

HIRING NEW CREW -- GROUP DISCUSSION
Here are my goals:
1) Get Oren and Ke'ahilani out of the main shift schedule.
They can still work (yes, even you Oren) but the hours will be kinder and more flexible to allow Lani to make his potions and Oren to have the rest and flexibility that he needs to be our guns.
2) Get us the Flexibility of one extra person per shift.
In case of heat stroke, special projects or whatever, we just have an extra body for each shift.
3) Have enough people who can man the Rita while we're on away team missions.
To my mind, this means we need at least four people. Does this sound right to you? How many should we hire?
Your Ship's Steward demands your input!
Gang, I want to do this fast so that we can head over to Dolentla and Man-Monsters and Insane Whales and an Ancient Elven Lab that clearly has nothing to do with the other monstrosities on the island...
Nefertiti Abdul |
Is that another goal, or the number you want to hire? :D
We've been nicknaming people right and left throughout this game. Aikane is particularly adept at this, so if you want to assign some of those nicknames, go for it.
Nefertiti Abdul |
So noted.
Aside to Kraken -- The Hawaiian name for Butterfly is "Pulelehua." So Pule could be a good real name for this crewman!
Oh, and Aikane -- I have been totally making use of this Hawaiian Dictionary that you found early in our game. It's been awesome!
In addition, here's another dictionary site that provides Hawaiian Words when you input English.
Nefertiti Abdul |
In consideration of Zem's most recent post in Gameplay, we may be recruiting 5 new crew.
Zem?

Lol, yeah, that was an unexpected turn, Zem! Hopefully this is just a temporary clearing your head pleasure cruise and you will be rejoining is soon...
Ke'ahilani |
I would hate to introduce an unnecessary conflict here; Ke's whole impetus is to get that guy off the ship and not to neccessarily murderize him. I figured the Captains little slaver buddys in the rowboats would pick him up if they cared, I certainly do not.
If my boon companions wanted to untie him first, thats ok. Want me to wait and interrogate him first? That's ok. Just grab my arm; or if you're mean, stick your foot out.
Nefertiti Abdul |
Lani --
::hugs::
Nef put the decision in your hands because she could hear Lani's howl for justice. Having done so, she would not stop him. It was what your character would do.
Alas, Zem's character has equally powerful feelings on the matter.
Disagreements are part of the game. Sometimes these have consequences that none of us intended.
This happens. Hazeltree is dead. I suspect that the Kraken won't allow us to change events now.
For what it's worth, Nef has decided that she can neither judge Lani nor begrudge him his vengeance. Her own experience with slavery, though horrible, does not match the horror of Lani's. She's extended the olive branch.
_______________
By the way, as a player, I favorited your post for its emotional impact, humor and power -- even though it went against my character's interests.
Nefertiti Abdul |
Lani, I know.
::hug::
Rata, I'm hoping that Edelhur and the Kraken will post here soon. I suspect that they are busy PMing each other. I know from a PM from Edelhur that he will be coming in with a new character. And I'm sure that it will be great. His characters always are. But it won't be Zem.
This isn't anyone's fault. It's just the way the characters took the storyline.
Sigh. I won't pretend that this doesn't suck; it does. But this is our story, and we'll roll with it. We're all strong players. Let's see what we can do in the wake of Zem leaving us for his own story.
The Kraken |
This is the Kraken with a quick update here, so you all don't feel left in the dark here
1. Zemwaar is leaving the party.
2. Edelhur is bringing a replacement character. I am currently conversing with him via PM.
Feel free to RP among yourselves while I work on integrating his new character into the game. It should not be very long! :D
Zemwaar |

Hehe guys - apologies but work has been murder - you got the gist of it - the Kraken has graciously accepted my request to move Zemwaar away from the game.
It is no one's fault, and regardless of it, I intend to keep playing albeit with a different character. Let me just say this again - you guys all are playing top notch characters, and I don't think anything should be changed - just that from my perspective, Zemwaar doesn't fit into the story as it is.
I would have to twist and turn the character around too much to stay in tune with the group, and if there is another alternative, then I prefer going with it.
So, lots of drama in gameplay, but zero outside of it - lets keep the ball rolling - I'm pulling all the stops and trying to come up with someone that can earn his place in this A game ;)
Rata Fenn |
I'm glad you feel that way Zem, and I'm sorry it didn't work out with your original concept. I look forward to what you come up with next. There are so many possibilities with this extremely rich and diverse setting: warpriest, hunter, inquisitor, oracle, summoner...
Personally, I can't wait to sling a few more daggers with Rata. That first battle was just a tease! I am also very interested to see where this Jacinth business goes... He he.
Nefertiti Abdul |
How about this:
One is Butterfly
Two is Pulee
Three is (Based on party decision)
Four is (Based on Kraken decision)
Five is (Based on party decision)
I was actually thinking that "Pule" be the real name of the person we all call "Butterfly".
So... Five is Edelhur's new character, whomever that will be. For now, I'm calling him "Mister E."
So, we have three more guys to nickname. Here's your chance to be creative, guys!
Here are some of my suggestions:
- Pil'au (Stinky, Filthy) -- Our nickname: Dirty Pete;
- Huhu I'a (Angry Fish) -- I think we'd just call him HuHu;
- Maka (Eye) -- I don't know if he's one eyed, or just sees clearly.
Those are just ideas to get us started!
