Got it, thanks Rush

Tap - yes, you can get to dry ground a the edges of the cavern, if you wanted to.

Hey guys, I'm back from wedding and work.....guess I didn't need to be to concerned.

yeah its a little slow now

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

Is there any way to haul up the massive iron grill? the trap?

Grand Lodge

M Human

That would be ridiculously heavy

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

well it must have been lifted some ways. but i guess its not practical at the moment. lol

if it is somewhat intelligent like an octopus, then I wouldnt expect it to go beneath it anyways.

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

remarkable thing is that the thingy *hadn't* tripped the trap as of yet. seeing as how difficult it would be for the thing *not* to, either it never went to where we are now (unlikely), ... or it knew about it, and what it does.

the latter option suggests that it appeared looking to feed on the remains after we sprung the trap.

Indeed, I am sure it is in league with the Grindylows...as it is only reasonable that each were aware of the other...and Grindylows are weaklings...

Perhaps Tap should illusion us as Grindylows.

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

that's not a bad idea.

Yeah, sorry for the lack of detail Jack. It was indeed raised in some way, but you assume that the chains, which run through pulleys had something to do with that. Maybe if each of you were to grab a chain and start heaving, you could raise it, but while you did so, you'd be eaten.

I have to ask, why is Bellilot's AC so low that a 13 hit him? Does he aschew armor or something?

Good question; it looks like his base should be 13: 1 dex and 2 armor, then the 11 on his sheet would be due to the -2 from his rage. So, either way - 13 would be a hit

Barbarians don't have proficiency to wear plate, and plate in a sea campaign is asking to be fish food in every storm :) In fact, reading forums I see that Barbarian AC is generally very very low.

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

i'm tempted to give him my amulet of natural armor.

though, my own character is pretty limited as far as armor options

If he'd wear it.

So I am wondering about all this grappled stuff.

From what I can tell, when the Cctopus (lacking better name) grappled Belliott, it would
1) illicit an aoo, but probably it has improved grapple, so no.
2) Need to make combat maneuver check against Belliot's CMD, which it did.
3) Both Belliott and the Octopus would receive grappled condition, and receive a -4 penalty to their dexterity, which would lower AC by 1 or 2 points.

Between the -4 penalty to Dex, and the +2 for flanking...

Grapple Flow Chart

Considering greasing Belliott to give him +10 CMD against grapples...except he's superstitious and would make a reflex save.

It has the grab ability, so no AOO. Correct, both will be grappled; the creature could have avoided it if it had used only the body part with which it originally grabbed Belliott to maintain, but it would have suffered a -20 to its CMB

can everyone commit to at least two posts per week?

fewer posts -> less frequent reads -> fewer posts. Its a negatively valenced positive feedback loop.

Current HP: 28 of 28 Sylph Oracle 5

I can commit to two per week.

Also, I know Barb's don't get heavy armor. It's just that most Barb's I see played go for a higher DEX stat to make up for that. So I was surprised that this wasn't the case this time. If he's our front liner, we should find a way to up his AC soon. If he's willing to take it, anyway.

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

congratulations to Tap and his Dodgers for clinching the division. My cubs will soon follow, I hope.

I'm certainly in for two per week, though as GM, I try to post much more often

Kerruk up, I think.

Our friend Mr. Apollinax seems to be very busy this last month or so. Hope everything is OK.

Yup, hope all is well...think he's just been swamped. Sorry for the delay guys, I just hate posting for an active player...fell like I'm cheating them. If you have any ideas about what Kerruk should do, feel free to voice them in character and I'll post for him tomorrow.

Current HP: 28 of 28 Sylph Oracle 5

In character, I have no idea.
Out of character, I'm pretty sure when I was reading up on some of the posts before I joined that Kerruk got an "instant win any situation" move. I think he should use that. Sounds like a good idea.

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

hmm how about summon ally, stirge.

Quote:

Attach (Ex) When a stirge hits with a touch attack, its barbed legs latch onto the target, anchoring it in place. An attached stirge is effectively grappling its prey. The stirge loses its Dexterity bonus to AC and has an AC of 12, but holds on with great tenacity and inserts its proboscis into the grappled target's flesh. A stirge has a +8 racial bonus to maintain its grapple on a foe once it is attached. An attached stirge can be struck with a weapon or grappled itself—if its prey manages to win a grapple check or Escape Artist check against it, the stirge is removed.

Blood Drain (Ex) A stirge drains blood at the end of its turn if it is attached to a foe, inflicting 1 point of Constitution damage. Once a stirge has dealt 4 points of Constitution damage, it detaches and flies off to digest the meal. If its victim dies before the stirge's appetite has been sated, the stirge detaches and seeks a new target.

Diseased (Ex) Due to the stagnant swamps in which they live and their contact with the blood of numerous creatures, stirges are harbingers of disease. Any creature subjected to a stirge's blood drain attack has a 10% chance of being exposed to filth fever, blinding sickness, or a similar disease (Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook 557). Once this check is made, the victim can no longer be infected by this particular stirge, though attacks by different stirges are resolved normally and may result in multiple illnesses.

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

damage to constitution does translate into hp damage, somehow, i think.

That's not a bad one..
But are you sure that he can summon that?

I think the instant win, or save or suck spell to which Rush refers is colour spray...but that has a negative HD scaling. At 4HD It will either do nothing or stun the thing for one round.

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

I'm not sure except that its listed as one of the available allies to be summoned by that spell..

Yeah, I was just totally joking.

oh :)

Actually, since we have this thing flanked, Kerruk gain the sneak attack ability, and gets a 1d6 damage bonus on his attack. He should attack.

Guys, I'll be traveling Thurs - Sun with the Family, so posting will be a bit spotty.

ENJOY!

Nice hit, Jack!

Thanks Sub; taking the kids to Universal Studios for a few days; should be a bit crazy

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

fun place

Nice demoralize roll, Jack! Actually, nice round all together!
Demoralize as a swift or is it free action on a hit is a nice ability of the Swashbuckler, especially later once it can be used against multiple enemies.

DC Demoralize is 10+HD+WIS.
A shaken character takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks. If you are successful, the target is shaken for one round. This duration increases by 1 round for every 5 by which you beat the DC.

Tap should have waited on his save and suck spell. Note to self.

GM Nayr: Not to nitpick, but Kerruk's to hit bonus on his attack should have been +5 (+2 BAB +2 Dex from Weapon Finesse, and +1 Inspire Courage)

Gotcha; I took a -4 for hurlin' into melee

M Human Barbarian/4

Belliott isn't necessarily averse to armor, but he doesn't like magic very much (which has been a pain, but I'm playing the character as I made him). He'd wear some kind of armor if he found it, but an amulet would require some kind of heavy convincing. I build him to be high hp and high damage, and not much else.

I can manage 2 posts a week. I have notifications on my phone now which has made it a bit easier for me to remember at least that something is going on. I wish I could post more from work but there are glass walls and people are very nosy/ the boss has been a bit of a nightmare as of late.

M Human Barbarian/4

I couldn't quickly figure out what my penalties are for the attack, but I figure that the hit was high enough! Belliott is pretty much in fight to the death mode now.

GM Nayr: Oh that makes sense! Sorry.

Now that was a live round!

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

is Belliot's axe two-handed or one? maybe a shield. i'm not currently using my buckler. Belliot can use if he wants

It is two handed. However, as he is grappled he can only use it one handed.

In any case, this is how barbarians work. When they go into Rage they get a bunch of temporary hit points. They get hit a lot. They deal a lot of damage.
