"Do you think they walked up it? Springy try to walk up the wall please"
The little automaton moves over to the wall placing one foot on the wall then attempting the other .....
Figgy reaches out to prod the rock wall with his strange Gnome weapon, stumbling slightly as he meets no resistance. His Pincher appears to have pierced the stone, but it feels as if there is nothing there?
A little more testing reveals that the entire section of rock covers an entrance to more metal rooms, yet is as easy to pass through as air. The tracks continue on the other side. leading to a partially open metal door, through which the mysterious light shine forth.
New map up top. 'The inner rooms.'
Through the gaps of the door, which has obviously been forced by the previous expeditions you can see.
B11.
This metal room is brightly lit by glowing panels in the ceiling above. To the left and right, complex machines consisting of spiral tubes and nozzles twitch and hum.
What are you doing?
Figgy Greasefitter |
WIll save: 1d20 ⇒ 12 this should be fun
"I don't think the wall is real! Fascinating"
Figgy steps forward as Springy falls to the ground. Figgy stops helps up his friend and dusts him off a bit.
Dilana Hemlock |
Dilana walks in and has no idea what to think about what she is now seeing.
"It is like the other side of the desert but more complicated. I think I like it."
Slowly she reaches out but dosn't quite touch the nozzles and tubes.
"It looks like there is only one way to go."
Raktar Garnok |
"Mystic light. Imaginary walls. This place is full of strange stuff," Raktar says as he passes his hand in and out of the illusory wall over and over again. He finally musters up the courage to step through into rooms of metal and light.
"You're right," he says to Dilana. "The tracks lead in here, we should explore the area and see if there are any more signs of Khonnir passing this way".
Figgy Greasefitter |
Figgy steps through the wall, following the others. Looking around at all the interesting new things and if he can figure anything out.

you could just give us 3rd so I can get the Technologist feat couldn't you?
Tybalt Kosgrove |
Tybalt kept silent through their journey to the desert, still in awe at its presence below-ground. The glowing wall and room with the tubes, however, cause this silence to break.
"Mystic light. Imaginary walls. This place is full of strange stuff."
"Strange, but incredible." he told the oracle before taking a look around himself. "Feels like stepping into whole other world."
I'm gonna guess a Knowledge Engineering roll here's gonna be useless without Technologist, so I'll hold off on that for now.

16 if traps are present
GM_DBH |
You know, it's really annoying how you can put an obvious trap right in front of people and smile to yourself as they blithely ignore it. Then one smartypants has to go and ruin it by checking for traps!
Tybalt notices that the machines on either side of the room are humming with energy, and will soon discharge electricity on anyone in that room.
Disable device DC25 is need to stop the machines.
Failing that you can wait till the machines discharge and sprint through the room, hoping to open the other door before the machines recharge.
Tybalt Kosgrove |
Sorry GM. I got a class with Trapfinding for a reason.
The half-elf suddenly realizes the danger right before them: a dangerous amount of energy is building up... and they were all standing in the center of it. With a rush of adrenaline, he starts muttering "Move!" repeatedly and runs between both machines, pressing whatever buttons he can to prevent catastrophe.
Disable Device: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Is it worse when the smartypants succeeds?
Raktar Garnok |
Engage smug mode!
Raktar hears Tybalt's mutterings as the half-elf starts fiddling with the tube machines. "What's happening Tybalt?" he asks, a note of fearful concern in his voice, as he edges back towards the door.
Jeremiah Johnston |
"What's happening Tybalt?" he asks, a note of fearful concern in his voice, as he edges back towards the door.
"Knowing him... probably getting his hands on as much tech as he can." JJ quipped as he entered the room behind them. "Either that or learning how this place works. He's had a knack of being lucky with things like that. If I try it, something usually ends up broken."
Roga, savage technologist |
Sprinting was nothing new to Roga but sprinting through a room full of machines trying to kill you was totally different.
Once on the other side, "Were those things like a creature, just waiting to hinder our path?"
He inspects the door and lets the other ones fiddle with the control panel as he readies his hammer, "Do we need to break it down?"
Figgy Greasefitter |
Figgy looks around at all the taller beings in the room, "I am not as quick as you all. this should be interesting, RUN SPRINGY!!"
The little Gnome and the even smaller Springy take off across the room.
Dilana Hemlock |
"Good work Tybalt. You are an half-elf of many talents it seems! I was going to blithely get my hand blown off it seems. Lancelot you are suppose to give me a heads up on these things you wicket beast."
I tried to play the part of the curious tech ignorant for you.
Raktar Garnok |
"Let's check out this door," Raktar says to Tybalt and Figgy. He pulls off his backpack and reaches in for his tool kit. "There must be some kind of lock or something," he mutters, taking a closer look at the door and it's frame.

"Averting disaster. Power surge building up in machines..." Tybalt stopped and wiped sweat from his brow when his work was finished. "Would've been both a literal and metaphorical shock."
"Good work Tybalt. You are an half-elf of many talents it seems! I was going to blithely get my hand blown off it seems. Lancelot you are suppose to give me a heads up on these things you wicket beast."
The investigator once again tried to hide a blush in the face of a compliment. "Praise unnecessary... but appreciated." he responded before joining Raktar, Figgy, and Roga by the locked door.
"Let's check out this door," Raktar says to Tybalt and Figgy. He pulls off his backpack and reaches in for his tool kit. "There must be some kind of lock or something," he mutters, taking a closer look at the door and it's frame.
Figgy will move up to the locked door with Raktar, "I will help you with that too, more minds make better work!"
Hammer on high, the big boy waits for someone to tell him that he needs to bash the door down...
"You sure you got this?"
"Hard to say... three mentally-focused individuals will hardly let a door stop them. But just in case, there's a reason you hold group's most powerful lockpick." he jokes as he pulled out his own tools and got to work with the others.

Letting the others get to work, JJ decided to peek down the hallway and keep watch. If anything or anyone else was in there with them, he hoped to be the first to spot it.
"Take your time, fellas. Not much is gonna get by me."

Once again you find you lack the knowledge of this strange techonology, and any obvious locks to pick with this door. The only thing that stands out is the odd device by the side of the door. It's two small square plates, barely wide enough to slide a card through. Hint, hint.

I know! I know!
Roga looked at the slits and wondered, "How about picking the entrance through there? That may be some sort of lock."
Putting away his hammer, he pulled out his cold iron dagger to see if it would fit through the slits, "Here let me try..."
Tybalt Kosgrove |
While not unexpected, seeing conventional methods prove fruitless somewhat drained Tybalt's enthusiasm.
Roga looked at the slits and wondered, "How about picking the entrance through there? That may be some sort of lock."
Putting away his hammer, he pulled out his cold iron dagger to see if it would fit through the slits, "Here let me try..."
Said depression turned into panic as he tried holding Roga back. "Waitwaitwaitwaitwait! Can't risk it! Might damage yourself or machinery."
"What about those cards? Could the fit in there?"
Tybalt blinked before fishing out one of the cards. "One way to find out..." he says before trying to fit the card in.
GM_DBH |
Nice to see you put Roga's safety before the precious technology Tybalt. :)
The card slips easily through the gap in the plates, there is high Beep and a small green light flashes on the device.
The door hisses up and open smoothly, your eyes widen as you see what was hidden behind it!
B12
The air in this room seems to buzz and hum with energy. Strips of glowing rectangles light the room from above, while strange flickering windows line the east and west walls. A large glasstopped circular table sits in the middle of the room.
To the north sits a large metal desk covered with blinking lights, while a humming pillar of purple-and-black metal stands nearby, its sides flashing with tendrils of violet energy. A single golden panel flashes with a soft but incessant light on the side of this pillar.
A thick layer of dust coats everything, diffusing the lights shining from the various surfaces, and many of the machines seem to be damaged, cracked, or otherwise ruined.
What are you doing now?
Raktar Garnok |
"That's a strange kind of key," Raktar says as the small brown card opens the door.
The light and energy emanating from the room give Raktar a moment of pause. "What is all this stuff?" he wonders. "That pillar looks dangerous. Hold on a moment," he says, looking carefully around the room.

Once learning she was almost electrocuted Dilana holds to the back of the group and seeing the tendrills of violet energy she is glad that she did.
"Well, that at least looks dangerous. Any ideas what is going on in here?"
Figgy Greasefitter |
Looking around the room: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Figgy will go and look all around the room, "Springy we could really give you some upgrades with technology like this. No put that down, please don't blow us up."
Figgy leaves the screen to stop Springy from taking a panel apart, "Last time I give you tools"
Roga, savage technologist |
Roga sheathes his dagger and nods as the smarter people open the door. Inside was quite a few things he did not understand.
He gave the smarter people a chance to figure out what this was while he stood guard lest anyone surprise them.
"Well, what is it Ty? Dilana, any ideas?"

perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Tybalt Kosgrove |
"Remarkable." Tybalt says as the door creaks open to reveal the dirty tech inside. It broke his heart to see such fine machinery in terrible shape, but it gave him hope that more laid within. "Revolutionary style of security. Still, seems like the 'keys' would be too easy to lose..."
"That pillar looks dangerous. Hold on a moment,"
"Well, that at least looks dangerous. Any ideas what is going on in here?"
"Well, what is it Ty? Dilana, any ideas?"
"Unsure."he began, staring at the violet tendrils with equal parts trepidation and curiousity. "Dust build-up would normally indicate area has been abandoned for a while... Without proper maintenance, this tech could be seriously unstable. Unfortunately, lack means or ability to fix it if it is. Best to leave alone for now..."
With that, he started his own search of the room, maybe finding hidden treasure, usable tech, or find some indication of what this room was used for.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Raktar Garnok |
Raktar stands in the doorway, amazed by the bravery of Figgy and Tybalt as they explore the room. He grips his hammer tightly as the gnome moves towards the panel and takes an involuntary step backward. "Careful Figgy, we don't know what any of these things do," he calls out, hoping that voicing his fears will help to allay them.
GM_DBH |
Once Figgy presses the flashing panel, the room begins to suddenly whir and hum. A series of muffled clicking and buzzing sounds echo through the walls, and a moment later, the circular table in this room flares to life. On it you can now see an perfect model of the dome you have just crossed.
Numerous panels on the wall fill with static, and the pillar of purple metal flashes and begins to pulsate.
Aside from the table now showing you the dome in detail, nothing else seems to happen in the room, you hold your breath waiting for moments but nothing happens.
Just as you begin to relax a voice speaks out in an emotionless tone, filling the room, but from no apparent source?
"Warning environment controls damaged and offline. Habitat lifeforms deceased. Please send a request to the nearest available Repair drone."
Dilana Hemlock |
Unable to contain herself any longer Daphne rushes over to the table.
"Tybalt look at..." she is cut off by the voices and finished meekly this."
Again despite her excitement and interest she refrains from touching the table. Her little scorpion is on her shoulder and plays with her hair, completely unconcerned by what is going on.
Roga, savage technologist |
Roga is drawn to the display at the table but steps back when he hears the voice.
He listens again trying to figure out what's being said to no avail, "Who's speaking and what is he saying?"
Raktar Garnok |
Seeing that the room appears to be safe, Raktar steps in towards the table and the magical map of the dome. He studies it carefully, looking for any details on the map that might help them work out where they are and what is happening.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
The voice that suddenly fills the room is startling, and he looks around for the source, as confused as Roga. "What's that language?"
Tybalt Kosgrove |
"Who's speaking and what is he saying?"
"What's that language?"
"To answer your questions Mr. Roga, "Tybalt starts. "...I'm not sure. If some invisible being, we'd have surely noticed by now, whether through plain examination or magical means of detection... To answer your question Raktar, the language is called Androffan. Picked up a bit of it in Chesed. He clears his throat before repeating the message verbatim in Common. After a moment, he coughs before continuing his explanation. "Message's implications extraordinary... if a bit unsettling."

Roga's admiration grew, "So you understand what it's saying?"
He quickly added, "What do you mean by unsettling? What did the message say exactly?"
Jeremiah Johnston |
Whilst everyone else was enjoying the marvels of technology, JJ was keeping watch in the hallway for signs of trouble. Who knew if someone would show up if they played around with too many things. While he thought to scout ahead, it was safer to travel in a group.
"Hey guys... Everything ok in there?.. Hearing lots of noises coming from where you are..."
JJ misses all the fun. XD
Raktar Garnok |
With no new information available, and unwilling to meddle with the mysterious apparatus in the room, Raktar steps out to converse with JJ. "Lots of strange things in there," he says, nodding his head in the direction of the room. "Shall we look over those doors, and leave Figgy and Tybalt to play with their new toys?"
Dilana Hemlock |
Clearly wanting to look at the marvels more Dilana will reluctantly move on.
"Yes, lets continue before the flashing lights steel our minds or spit acid or something."
Figgy Greasefitter |
"I am done in there, I will make an effort to understand that language though once we get back into town. Maybe I can teach Springy."
Figgy follows the long legged folk

"Lots of strange things in there," he says, nodding his head in the direction of the room. "Shall we look over those doors, and leave Figgy and Tybalt to play with their new toys?"
"I'll take your word for it..." JJ smirks as he carefully makes his way down the hallway to the next set of doors and pulled out a brown card with his off hand. Since the last set needed one to open, he assumed these would as well. So, once some of the others joined him, he would search for a slot and place a card inside.
Raktar Garnok |
"Let's do it then," Raktar says, hammer gripped tightly in case something tries to jump them as the door opens.
