Would it be possible to toss the fireworks out of the cart before the fire gets to them?

Just to be clear, repeated castings would extinguish it. But it will take more than one...if this information entices you to revise your action, Eugeni, I'll allow it.

"Dwarf, fear not! I come to assist you!" Kala shouts as she charges toward the nearst goblin, drawing her broad shortsword as she runs. She suspects that the goblin will be paying more attention to her sword than her shield, so as she closes on it she instead tries to bash it with the shield, hoping to catch it off-guard.

Kala’s shield smashes it on its way down, causing a nasty puncture wound into its skull. The fact that the little thing is still breathing, though unconscious thanks to Xamarath’s magic, is impressive.

Seeing Xamarath knock two goblins out cold in a swirl of color, Zoli nods appreciatively, ”Not bad!”

She then takes aim at one of the goblins as it struggles back onto it’s feet, thwacking it solidly in the belly.

Morythine's composure is rather undermined as a javelin strikes the table just beside him, causing the pleasant display of apples, pears and other produce to dance into the air then roll into the dirt. Then something far worse than bruised fruits transpires - the monk is dehatted by the lash of a goblin whip!

Flinching as the sunlight touches his eyes, Morythine drops to a crouch, one hand reaching for his tricorn as the other fishes a throwing star from beneath his half-cloak and hurls it at his foe. The presumptuous goblin's chant falters as the spinning star lodges in its skull, but then the goblin just continues singing - a shuriken protruding from its scalp apparently insufficient to quell its racket.

Eugeni continues to move across the street, drawing up a bead on the chanter as he goes. He stops behind one of the tables at the side of the street to release his shaft. The arrow misses completely. "I think that fire's already too big for my little squirt, Xam!"

Alina frowned as the two goblins managed to regain their footing without suffering a pounding from the dwarf and his hammer. The halfling’s sling certainly seemed to do some damage to one of them, but the witch felt confident they’d be better off if the dwarf’s weapon also connected. Pointing to the uninjured goblin’s shoes attempted to distract for the dwarf with another hex. ”Hey! Your boot came untied.”

She knew the hex was lame before she finished saying it, but hopefully it would provide the dwarf with enough of an opportunity to clobber the goblin.

Baern takes a step to his left, putting himself in reach of the goblin frantically looking at it's bare feet for it's untied boot. He comes overhanded with a powerful swing, crashing first through the goblins head, then driving down with enough force to crumple several vertebrae as well. Goblin's obviously have more brain tissue than the utilize, judging simply by the amount of gore sent spraying out in all directions.

Meanwhile, the singing goblin pauses it's song long enough to mutter a magical incantation, and for a brief moment, Morythine feels the sensation of magic try to take hold of him. However, the goblin's mastery over the arcane arts is not as strong as it had hoped, and it quickly realizes that he is unaffected. Panicking, it turns and puts as much distance as it can between itself and the longshank throwing sharp metal.

Seeing the Chanter try to flee in the distance, Xamarath uses his magics to send a bolt of energy that dispatches the chanter. The remaining goblin that is conscious, seeing the last of their leadership gone, tries to flee but flounders in the grease.

Combat is essentially over, at least for a few moments, feel free to finish up these goblins as you desire.

In the heat of the battle, it was easy to lose track of the numerous civilians that had been fleeing through the festival grounds. Now, looking about, only the seven that had stood their ground remain standing. In the distance, the sounds of the alarm being raised and more combat can be heard.

In the immediate vicinity, many goblins lie dead, but not as many citizens as had originally appeared, though here and there a motionless non-goblinoid body can be seen. Over past the stairs of the new cathedral, a halfling body lies eerily still, face down. A trail of blood makes it clear the victim had been crawling towards the stairway.

The flames on the cart continue to grow unchecked, and are nearing the contents of the wagon...

Now that the immediate threat is over, Eugeni rushes forward towards the fireworks wagon and begins summoning water a gallon at a time over the part of the cart about to be consumed by flame next. He tries to slowly push the fire back with his gouts of water until it is extinguished. "Someone see if any of these people are still alive!" he commands no one in particular.

Eugeni arrives at the cart and begins his repeated dousing of the flames, eventually putting the danger to rest. Upon closer inspection, the cart contained not only fireworks prepared for the festival's finale later tonight, but also the materials to make more, stored in crates and small casks. Had the flames crept much closer, the entire wagon would have likely erupted in an explosion, causing unknown levels of destruction in the area.

Meanwhile, Kala gathers her scattered weaponry from across the field, as well as her breath. A quick scan of the fallen tells her one thing, without a doubt. The goblins left no survivors.

Whether or not that is true or not remains to be seen, but thanks to your natural one, you are positive that all these people are dead.

After the worst of the fight seems to subside, Xamarath surveys the carnage with a grimace. Quite a bit of destruction. What a shame; it was a decent festival. Turning his gaze to the fallen goblin-chanter, Xamarath lends voice to the incantations that afford him a sight to find all traces and manner of dweomer. While he expects no great treasure among the tiny creatures, one did display a capacity for manipulating The Weave. Perhaps that same one had some magical writings or alchemical concoctions on its corpse.

Checking the fallen goblins for anything magical; then checking the Chanter itself for anything in general.

Concluding his brief search of the creature, Xamarath begins lending his support to the injured and fallen. He leans in close over the fallen, checking for breathing or movement of any sort.

As the last of the goblins falls, Zoli exhales -- realizing she's been holding her breath through much of the fight.

We did it! She smiles...but her smile quickly drains away as she looks around and takes in the carnage.

Seeing Eugeni taking care of the fire, she joins the others in looking for survivors to help. Her eyes are drawn first to the halfing by the cathedral stairs.

As she bends down to take a look, she finds herself praying, Please Desna, please Chaldira, let it not be someone I know...

Now that the fire is put out, Eugeni will try to further assess the situation. He listens for sounds of further battle, and watches for other goblins or anyone in authority in Sandpoint.

What do we hear? See? Are any of the downed citizens moving? Eugeni will take a couple minutes to look around and assess the situations. He begins taking 20 on perception. If two minutes pass without significant reason to stop figuring out the situation it will yield a 27.

Eugeni:
In the immediate area, things are calm, relatively speaking. There are six dead citizens scattered about the square you are in, and a couple more hobbling to the cathedral, where Zoli is kneeling beside a Halfling body. In the distance, to the southwest, you hear more fighting going on. You recall that to be the location of the garrison, which is likely given the ringing alarm bell sounding off. It would seem that the local guard is being called up, which likely took some time since most were off duty. Hopefully this means the fighting is nearly over, as you see no more goblins in the vicinity. Alive, at least.

As the last of the goblins fell and the others began to go comb through the dead for survivors and trinkets, Alina began thinking it might be time to head back to the inn and order a bath. The halfling has skewered one of the nasty goblins near her and the blood spray had been unavoidable. Normal blood would have been bad enough but this was goblin blood and who knew what kind of disease and other nastiness was in it. The sooner she could be rid of such contaminate the better.

Nobody ever mentioned adventuring being so messy. Do the bad guys always cause such a mess? After a moment's thought on this she decided that this was probably a problem particular to goblins. The creatures were said to be rather filthy, so it made sense that battles involving them would be as well.

Then the halfling began wailing over one of the dead, something Alina figured there'd be a lot of soon enough, and Eugeni called everyone into the sanctuary until the guard came and secured the area. Looking about Alina didn't see anything that made her think the battle was anything but over so she asked, "Isn't it over? Can't we all go home now and wash off the remains of this disaster?"

Storing the small vial of curative into the recesses of his backpack—a gift from the Pathfinders and nearly a marvel unto itself—Xamarath rises from his crouch to continue towards the scene unfolding on the steps of the cathedral. His heart begins to sink at the losses incurred during the raid. Many were innocents, incapable of properly defending themselves or loved ones and yet trying all the same. His eyes soon drift to the form of Eagle Eye, now motionless and headless: one whom the Thayvian had spoken to briefly only moments before the chaos ensued. Drawn from his solitude in the wilderness to this place, and for what? Not ten paces beyond lay the massacred remains of Helgarr. Her visions promised destiny, and yet here the woman was felled to ruin by a pack of goblins. It all pointed towards one simple truth: no one was prepared.

Speaking aloud, though mostly posing questions to himself or no one in particular, Xamarath says in an expression of dismay, "How could they have approached so brazenly? No warnings or resistance; no protection for the celebrants. Was it the armored goblin? Could he have orchestrated this?"

Xamarath's mutterings are halted at Zoli's panicked cries. He is quickly able to piece together the implications. The slain halfling was dear to her; perhaps an older sibling or parent. He takes a hesitant step forward, but halts soon after. Loss is a terrible burden. There are no words to soothe or repair. The Thayvian's mind races for something to help alleviate the young halfling's grim situation, but there is nothing for it. Xamarath's jaw clenches, and his knuckles go white as they grip the length of his quarterstaff.

Anger. That is the only sensation that fills the void of helplessness—anger that will soon enough find an outlet. The alarm and sounds of fighting from further within the village both serve as clarion call to action. "They will pay tenfold for all they have taken," Xamarath whispers through a half growl. Determined, the red wizard takes off down the street towards the garrison, ready to drain every font of energy available to him to visit devastation on Sandpoint's attackers.

Alina got the distinct impression that Eugeni disapproved of her desire to leave and couldn't understand why. Looking around the field the once joyous field was now a scene of loss and death. Why doesn't everyone want to leave? I be the halfling would be happier if she didn't have to deal with whoever was dead at her feet.

Unlike Eugeni, all Alina could see or hear of whatever battle was still occurring was the warning bell. "Oh. I... I thought it was over." She replied. "I can't hear anything other than the bell." Still wishing she could clean up but a bit more concerned that the battle might return should the guard be less successful than them. "Should someone go help the guard? Were these only one of several bands? How many other places are still fighting?"

His hearing must be related to the planer blood in him. I wonder if his sense of smell is as keen as a dog's as well?

Eugeni kneels down beside the Zoli's father, checking for a pulse. His eyes fall as what he already knows becomes undeniable. The little man is dead. "I......I'm sorry. There's nothing I can do Zoli," he says despondently. He remembers how it felt when Murial had been taken from him by the Chopper. Tears fill his own eyes as he moves next to Zoli and puts his arm around her shoulders. Why does it have to be this way Erastil? It's so random! A few minutes ago we were all happy. Now Zoli has no father, and other people's family are lying dead in the streets. Please, give me the strength to get through this. The strength to be there for the community that needs me now more than ever.

I will remind you that there are two goblins still alive and ensorcelled laying in the middle of the courtyard that have yet to be properly...dealt with. Morythine approaches the other adventurers cautiously. They seem to have been coordinating their attacks with some degree of effectiveness, considering the dead and dying goblins scattered around the plaza. Keeping his hat low over his brow, he offers a cautious nod of greeting.

"There's no-one here we can save," he states "But the fight continues across town. We make no difference here, but there our blades and fists and spells might swing the outcome of battle."

Despite his cold reasoning, Morythine is thrilled by the brief explosion of violence, and breathless at the prospect of joining in more.

Looking in horror at the expression on Eugeni's face, Zoli's mind races: YOU'RE WRONG! You're---

...but she can tell he's right. The young halfling buries her face in her father's still chest, sobbing, with one are still clinging to the base of Eugeni's furry leg.

When the stranger in the tricorn hat approaches, something about his emotionless tone jars her. Shaking her head, Zoli says, "You're-- You're right. If other peoples' family members are still at risk, we need to do our best to save them."

She stands, lifts her father in her arms, and carries him toward the cathedral, whispering. "Poppa. Desna will watch over you inside the cathedral until I return."

After laying him gently inside the cathedral she nods to the others. With an expression still mostly blank with shock she says, "OK, let's go."

Actually, it seems like the fighting is over. Eugeni doesn't know that the two goblins put down by color spray aren't dead, or he'd kill them himself. Considering they should only be out for less than a minute, they should probably be awake by now with everything that we've done/said.

Did Father Zanthus respond? If not, I'm assuming he's not here.

Eugeni wipes the tears from his eyes. There will be time for that later, he mentally chides himself. He stands up and takes stock of the situation again. He no longer hears battle, and the red wizard appears to be turning back after declaring that he was off to make the goblins pay. "Actually, it sounds like the fighting is over. Look, Xamarath is turning back towards us. I want to stay here to protect the Cathedral in case more goblins come. The last one burnt down, and the festival would be a perfect excuse to attack the new building while everyone is distracted. We can also set up a temporary clinic for the wounded. You guys fan out over the surrounding streets and bring any casualties that might still be saved here. I'm going inside to organize things."

Eugeni turns and enters the cathedral proper. What's the situation inside?

Judging by the scene inside the cathedral, a clinic for emergency healing is indeed already established, though Father Zantus is nowhere to be seen at the moment. Though most of the citizens and acolytes are too terrified to acknowledge Eugeni's attempts to organize, one does greet Eugeni at the door. Seeing the others prepare to depart, he cries out in a panic.

"Wait! Don't leave us! There are no guards here, and you are the only protection we have if another wave comes!"

Seeing the dead bodies outside, he turns and gathers a few volunteers to help him clear the streets of the deceased.

Xamarath returns a bit nonplussed. He truly wishes to contribute to the situation and put his talents to use. While he could certainly commit himself to assisting in the efforts of the fire brigade, he would likely hinder more than help. They seemed to have things well in line on that end, and so he returns to the square before the cathedral, slow pace and solemn expression. He then realizes that the same two goblins that fell to his enchantment have not been properly dispatched. Though far from the glorious enterprise of saving Sandpoint from vast hordes of the little greenblights, he obliges the necessary course of action quickly.

Taking swift strides over to where the creatures lay immobile, he grimly sets to the task of braining them where they lay unconscious. Far from a heroic deed, but still preferable to the alternative. "All hail, Xamarath. Slayer of sleeping goblins." Grimacing away the deed, he turns to rejoin the others at the cathedral steps.

At first she'd thought maybe the armored goblin, Ravboom, had caused the problem but she doubted he could have found so many goblins and organized their attack so soon after he departed. Maybe he was an advance scout sent to look for the most advantageous time for the attack. Perhaps when the guards were dealing with a small fight the goblin had started in the first place. She had no proof beyond her own speculation, but she could think of little other reason for an armored goblin to be in town.

As she pondered this she saw Xamarath approach the two unconscious goblins and quickly dispatch them. "NO! Wait." The deed however was already done. Their two best chances of finding out why the goblins attacked, where they came from, and if there were more, were now dead. "We could have interrogated them..." Her voice trails off in resignation at the impossibility of that course of action.

Feeling he's doing little good aiding the many wounded, Morythine gives up and slips out of the cathedral, his staff in hand. Seeing Kala guarding the square, he hurries up beside her and joins her patrol. For a moment, Morythine struggles to find some introductory words, but unsure of what to to say, he simply doffs his tricorn and hefts his staff awkwardly.

The difference between the two figures is stark; Morythine unarmoured, slender, carrying only the humblest weapons, whereas Kala is helmed, girded in scale and equipped with swords, axes and javelins.

As they keep watch, Morythine eyes dart to his companion. Those unfamiliar with the dhampir might assume the man is admiring Kala's armoured figure, but in truth his eyes are lingering on her many wicked weapons with considerable appreciation.

Eugeni cleans the blade and tucks it away for later consideration. Seems it wasn't only goblins up to evil this day.

No response from the acolyte about Father Zanthus?

None of the acolytes know of where Father Zantus is. It would appear the consensus is that he disappeared just as the chaos broke out, last seen with the Sherriff.

"Well met, I saw you helped with the goblins, it is appreciated," Kala says to the slender man a short while after he joins her on patrol. "I am Kala Steelheart, may I ask your name?" After a moment she quickly adds, "Apologies if you've already given it, the attack drove much of what happened at the festival from my memory."

As people begin to file out of the cathedral and help with the collection of the fallen, frantic barking fills the air coming from the northern part of town, soon followed by a cry for help. The citizens that had left the cathedral all turn and start running back inside, partially due to the acolytes waving for them to return.

The acolyte at Eugeni's side says, "It...it must not be over!" and flees back to the sanctuary of the cathedral. Looking around, Eugeni comes to the quick conclusion that no guards have made it this far north from the garrison, so they may not make it in time...

Xamarath's head snaps towards the cry, and as the opportunity for revenge has provided itself, he smirks and begins moving that direction.

Kala and Morythine just so happened to be at the end of church street, and heard the sound rather clearly, along with the sounds of steel meeting steel and goblin battle cries.

Baern had just finished looking about the courtyard for more gobby's to kill, and was slightly disappointed to find none. The opportunity, it would seem, has presented itself once again, as he sees the rest of the fighting festival goers begin heading towards the cry for help.

Zoli can barely take in what is going on, so deep is her grief from the loss of her father. However, as she sees the rest of her new friends heading off to the north, weapons ready, she slowly rises to her feet and follows after them, the chance to avenge her father, if only partially, being too much to resist.

Seeing the others head off towards the cry, Alina takes off as well, hoping that this time they might take a prisoner and learn some answers.

In front of the White Deer, the group can make out in the distance a horrifying sight. Six goblins stand around the front of the tavern, cheering on a fight between a mastiff and a goblin mounted upon a goblin dog, as well as Os'dyn going toe to toe with a seven foot monstrosity wielding a morningstar. At the monsters feet, the man who had bought Ravboom fireworks lay dead, his neck broken and bleeding from puncture wounds.

As you get closer, the goblin manages to dispatch the barking mastiff with a stab from it's polearm, and the monster breaks Os'dyn's longsword with a swing of it's mighty club, then grabs the man by the throat and lifts him off the ground with his left hand. Os'dyn clutches feebly at the beasts claw, his face turning a dark crimson. The creature laughs and says, "Yes, squirm. I enjoy watching the light in a human's eyes fade slowly, as they desperately fight the losing battle for life."

Os'dyn's arms fall limply to his side, and then a sickening snap can be heard resound down the street as his neck breaks, and the monster throws the human into the wall of the tavern much like a kid would playing with a ball. Now that the beast has moved, you can see a well dressed man hunkered behind a rain barrel in front of the inn, and he cries, "Oh Gods please someone help me!"

Xamarath:
While many things have seemed oddly similar between this world and Faerun, it still managed to surprise you how familiar yet so different the creatures are between the two worlds. The monster in front of you, aside from the goblins, would appear to be a bugbear. The bugbear is the largest of the goblinoid races, a lumbering brute that stands at least a head taller than most humans. Humans are a bugbear's favored prey, and most count the flesh of humanity as a dietary staple. Grisly trophies of ears or fingers are common bugbear decorations.

I know I had previously said I was going to follow straight up initiative rolls, but it just got too hectic there at the end trying to keep up with updating, as sometimes I had to update after only one person's action. So I'm moving to blocked initiatives, by using the average of the PC's as their group's initiative versus their oppositions average, post order will be action order. Soooo, PC's are up first, and you have this round of surprise!

"No, I don't believe we've been introduced. My name's Morythine Ettes. A pleasure to meet you Kala. I like your shield."

As the sounds of more violence reach them, Morythine adds "It seems like our work is yet unfinished."

Along with the other adventurers, Morythine dashes towards the White Deer public house. Seeing more goblins to slay, the monk doesn't hesitate, peeling off to engage the closest goblin on the left. He jabs with his staff, but the goblin hops aside.

In the cathedral

Zoli is dimly aware of the others bustling about the cathedral, helping the wounded. The young halfling listens wordlessly to any that offer their awkward condolences. She just stands there, brushing dirt from her father’s body clothes, running her fingers through his hair, and murmuring in a low voice, her words alternately addressed to her father, Desna, and Chaldira Zuzaristan.

The sounds of alarm -- and the quick movements of those she fought beside minutes ago -- shock her from her grief. If other peoples’ fathers -- family members -- are still at risk, mourning will have to wait.

She loads her sling as she follows the others outside.

Many citizens are fleeing as the handful of them walk toward the sound of danger. Zoli notes that the odiferous dwarf is also heading toward the goblins, as is the man in the tricorn hat. I doubt either is from around here, yet they walk into danger too, to defend strangers. She tries to muster up a smile in their direction -- these warriors rushing to Sandpoint’s defense beside her -- but she finds that as yet neither smile nor greeting is ready to return to her lips.

Now

Zoli arrives just in time to see the large monstrosity kill Os’dyn. Wasting no time, she answers it with a whistling sling stone that whacks it in its ear. "That was for Poppa. You won't be destroying any other families today, monster. Not if Zoli Tileani has anything to say about it!"

Recognizing the real threat before them, Xamarath gestures at the bugbear with violent intent painted allover his face. He speaks once more the phrase "విధ్వంసం మోట్స్ను" to conjure another pair of cerulescent motes of energy. They smite the bugbear unerringly before disappearing in blueish vapors.

Not pausing to appreciate the aftermath, he immediately spins into another arcane evocation, sending a hawk-like projection of force from the tip of his staff, which slams into the bugbear's chest.

Immediately upon seeing the death of yet another innocent, the dwarf gets angry again and, forgoing any sort of words this time, yells at the top of his lungs as he charges the goblins, intending on ending lives himself.

Except that the lives that he will be ending will be deserving of it.

Well, my rolls could be better. In other news, I'm not power attacking against the goblins for AoO's - overkill is overkill, and I need the accuracy.

Short post, could be better but I’ll make sure to make up for it later.

As her companions begin the fight against the goblins, Kala waits a few moments for her opening. Morythine rushes one of the goblins, and Eugeni moves aside, and Kala sees her chance. She charges at one goblin who is in the right position for her to use the fluid foe to foe fighting style she's trained in. Just after Baern's attack narrowly misses it, Kala brings her shield down on its head, the spikes digging into its skull. With a sickening crack of either its neck or skull, the goblin falls.

Baern steps forward and swings at the next goblin, who's now on guard, but his long hammer is blocked. Kala seizes the chance to step forward and attack with both shield and sword. Her shield only manages to get tangled with the goblin's crude sword, but it gives Kala free reign to drive her wide shortsword hilt deep into its belly, impaling it, and the creature falls to the ground unconcious from the pain.
