Morythine is confused. "I’m sorry, do we know this weirdo?” he asks.

"Oh sweet Gods!" Zoli gasps. "Aldern is still in there, somewhere."

“Oh yeah. Aldern Foxglove as in Foxglove Manor. High-bred weirdo.”

"Morythene, if you strike to subdue perhaps we can capture rather than kill--but this 'Skinsaw Man' is clearly deadly and I'm going to use everything I've got to stop him!"

Whispering the command word Darius taught him, magic ripples over Morythine’s features, chocolate-coloured hair appearing to burst out from his skin, his ears elongating (one is torn and raggedy), his eyes turning yellow, with neither pupil or iris, and the general set of his features turning bestial and canine.

A third Eugeni now stands in the fight!

Taking a step in toward him, Zoli swings but her blade only hits Aldren's stained and tattered coat.

"Get outta my skin, freak!" Eugeni shouts at his insane undead doppelganger. He uses his incredible skill with the bow to fire off three arrows at once point blank into the ghast's face. Unfortunately the short draw doesn't give the arrows enough umpf to penetrate the Skinsaw Man's unnaturally hardened hide. F!$!!

Destrina steps away from the skinsaw man for a moment, holds her hammer up with one hand while drawing Ragathiel's symbol in the air with her other hand and reciting a prayer. "General of Vengeance, bless this hammer to crush those who work evil. Bless it that I may bring vengeance for those they have killed. Bless it that your will may be done." A flash of white light accompanies the end of the prayer and afterward the hammer glows faintly.

The paladin turns her attention to the cleaver wielding Eugeni doppelganger, and says, "Feel the wrath of vengeance, of my god, Ragathiel, beast."

Darius fights through the nausea he is experiencing, and lets forth a gout of flame that burns the decaying flesh of Aldern, or The Skinsaw Man, or His Lordship, or whatever he is going by at the moment, eliciting a pained scream from the creature.

However, it does not deter him from his current course, which seems to be to destroy Eugeni. He opens up a vicious gash in Eugeni's side, as well as a nasty bite in the canine aasimar's shoulder that leaves the man frozen in place!

Darius lets loose another gout of flame, causing even further damage to the undead monstrosity, as well as filling the room with the thick, heavy musk of burned, decaying flesh.

Turning to face the rest of the crew, she says, "We did it! Do you think the nightmare is over in this house? Have the haunt--and that revenant--been put to rest?

"Let's see what else there is to find down here...maybe clues to help us better understand why he's been doing this, why he was obsessed with Eugeni...and why he was carving the sihedron into his victims' flesh" She shudders involuntarily as she thinks again of the mutilated victims. As the dust settles after the fight, and the heroes of Sandpoint can take the time to really take in their surroundings, things grow even more disturbing. On the table, there is a collection of seemingly random objects: a lock of reddish brown hair, the fletching of a broken arrow, a stack of charcoal drawings that look like Eugeni (in various states of being murdered in different ways), a letter addressed to Aldern at a location in Magnimar, a small silver key ring with two keys (one of which is a tarnished iron key with a round opal, the other made of bronze has an unusually long tang ending in a set of three notched blades, and the head of the key resembles a roaring lion), and a vial of dried blood.

Perception DC 20:
The hair is the same color as Eugeni's fur, and the arrow is fletched in the same manner as Eugeni's arrows.

The portrait that leans against the far side of the table is of the same raven haired woman you've seen repeatedly depicted throughout the manner (and the creature in the attic), though it has been clumsily repainted with blood and bits of rotten flesh into a caricature of Eugeni.

Zoli:
You can see in the picture an open window behind the figure, depicting what is obviously the skyline of the city of Magnimar.

Morythine:
While looking about, you see in the fungus a mold-encrusted chime*.

On the body of what was once Aldern, you can find a suit of leather armor*, a large war razor*, two rings*, the strange mask* he donned, his stained and tattered (but repairable) noble's outfit, a key, and a small cameo of high quality that, when opened, contains a portrait of Eugeni.

Darius studies the strangely humanoid patch of fungus, as well as the broken box at its "feet" before speaking up, "This would appear to be the sight of a failed transformation into a lich! Remarkable! Though, a uniquely strange side effect. It would appear that this site is the source of all the strange hauntings going on within the manor itself. It will take some potent magics to undo the necromantic energies flowing here. The site needs to be consecrated, or some other strong form of positive energy that, I am afraid, is beyond us currently, to remove the curse fully."

Darius identifies the magic items available here, all marked with *'s. +1 Leather Armor, +1 War Razor (1d4/19-20 x2), Ring of Jumping, Ring of Protection +1, Stalker's Mask, Chime of Opening (5 charges).

Zoli shakes her head at Eugeni's question. "I was hoping you'd have some idea. He was so, so obsessed...

"Hearing what he said though, I wonder if it wasn't just some hallucination of his--if he couldn't have just as easily fixated on Father Zantus, or Ameiko or...anyone, really. That said, this letter is what's disturbing me most right now.

"Who are 'the Brothers'? And this 'Xanesha, Mistress of the Seven'? She's talking about the Sihedron and the Seven and then mentioning not wanting 'the greed in their souls to go to waste'--all quite creepy and mysterious and fascinating!"

Taking a breath, she adds "Clearly we need to get home now. Maybe Father Zantus can send someone to help us deal with this lich-mold that Darius thinks is behind the haunt. After that though..." she glances at the keys they recovered from Aldern's corpse, and the address written on the letter. "I wonder if it isn't time for another jaunt over to Magnimar!"

Having read the letter, any more knowledge rolls to make? How much would we know about the history of the runelords, and their association with various sins? Do any of the names in the letter ring a bell?

Turning to Eugeni, Morythine shows him the vial of dried blood (one of the items on the table) . “Do you think this is your blood?” he asks blithely. “Do you mind if I keep it as a momento of my brief time wearing your face … and fur.”

With his quarterstaff, Morythine flicks a chime from its crusting of fungi. Giving it a cursory clean with the edge of his cloak, he passes it to Darius for identification, along with various items found of Aldern’s (deceased) person.

We have keys and a chime of opening . Were there any doors we’ve encountered in our exploration of Foxglove Manor which we’ve been unable to open?

“What if we just burn the place down?” asks Morythine. He hasn’t completely abandoned his idle dreams of renovating* Foxglove Manor, but equally, the notion torching the great pile to its foundations also has a certain appeal.

It is a day's ride to Sandpoint, , and the current time is a few hours before midnight, you are just a bit past dusk. It is also a days ride to Magnimar, thanks to the out of the way positioning of Foxglove Manor. And, as before, it is a day's ride from Sandpoint to Magnimar.

As the group makes there way out of the tunnel, Zoli asks everyone to wait a moment as she checks out the moldy tunnel that had been passed up before. She comes back covered in strange yellow spores, carrying a blue glowing heavy pick, a silly smile plastered on her halfling face.

You exit the manor, a huge swarm of undead crows begins to descend upon you. Darius steps forward and says, "Leave this to me," before hitting the creatures with a massive fireball that causes the massive swarm to dissipate and disperse almost instantly.

The group travels about a mile away from the haunted mansion before reuniting with their horses and making camp. The next morning and day is spent returning to Sandpoint, where Father Zantus is shocked to learn of the fate of the Misgivings. He agrees to return personally to the manor and attempt to put the spirits to rest.

Another day's travel returning to the haunted sight, the group manages to, with some surprising recurrences of the hauntings, lead Father Zantus into the depths of the manor and back to the fungus that Darius claims is the source of the whole problem. As Father Zantus completes the spell, the man-shaped fungus patch on the wall tears itself free and shrieks in a sloshy, barely human voice before crumbling to dust, as does the rest of the dust in the home. And while this does nothing to remove the unwelcoming aura about the house, the evil is removed from the structure.

After bidding a farewell to the priest the following morning, the group turns south towards Magnimar as Father Zantus rides north back to Sandpoint. By dusk, the group returns to the gates of the city.

You guys have arrived in Magnimar. It is getting dark once again, but I do not want to ASSUME you just go to an Inn or dive right into hunting out your leads...so...tell me what you do at this point.

Seeing Eugeni still looking down in the dumps after the business in the Manor, Zoli goes over to him and puts a hand on his furry shoulder. To think, back before the ugliness of the Swallowtail Festival this was that weirdo in the woods that my friends and I called 'The Talking Dog'. So much has happened in such a short time. Zoli smiles at her friend, thinking That's nice. I guess a walk to clear your head might be exactly what you need.

With that she ambles down the cobbled street to a market she remembered seeing. She buys some dark rye bread, some crisp pears, and several creamy, well-bletted medlars--enough to share--and returns to their shared suite to break her fast with anyone interested.

Eugeni:
You follow the directions to the grove as best you can. You feel like you have arrived early, but see nothing except for a stone table in the middle of a clearing among a dense thicket of trees.

"You're late," a somber voice calls out. As you look around, you see a bird fly down from a nearby branch, and as it lands, it begins to take the shape of the elf you met the night before. Several more birds land around you and the clearing, all taking humanoid forms wearing robes similar to the elf.

"If you are certain you want to do this, provide me the diamonds and lie down on the table," he says, gesturing to the table with his hand, removing a wavy dagger covered in runes from the sleeve of his robe with the other.

If you definitely want to go through with this, make an appropriate response and I will make the official rolls and post your results. Unless you want to make the rolls yourself, in which case, include them in your next post. You will need a d100 for race, d2 for gender (1 male, 2 female), and a 2nd d2 to see how much of your former memory your retain (1 you keep everything, 2 you lose some relatively minor memories). I'm basing the last roll on the passage "A reincarnated creature recalls the majority of its former life and form," in the spell description.

He lays down on the table and closes his eyes.

You can roll them. I feel quite nervous. Female troglodyte with no memory, nyuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu! (>_>)

Eugeni:
The elf and his entourage look on quietly as Eugeni strips down and lies down on the table. The elf approaches the head of the table, and begins chanting something in a strange language. He gently presses the blade against the aasimar's throat, and as he reaches the peak of his chant, forcefully presses it down and across Eugeni's exposed neck.

Eugeni convulses and his bodies instincts kick in in a vain attempt to remain alive, clutching at his throat. Suddenly hands are upon him from all sides, holding his arms and legs down firmly against the table as the man quickly feels the life ebb from his body.

Soon enough, he lies still. "It is done, master," one of the gathered men says to the elf.

The elf, having remained emotionless the whole time, says calmly with a large smile forming on his face, "Yes. I see that. Gather it all. Every last drop. We will need it."

Blackness.

Light.

Searing bright light burning your eyes.

You slowly raise a hand to cover your sensitive eyes as you begin to come to. Gathered around you are a number of strange men and women dressed in brown, earthy robes. The light of the sky burns like nothing you have ever experienced before. In fact, you've never experienced anything like this before.

"Easy, friend," a tall elf says as some of the robed figures help you slowly sit up on the table. "You've been through quite a lot in the last few hours. Tell me, what do you remember?"

Suddenly, you remember that this man helped you. You paid this man to unmake you, and then make you again. You are from Sandpoint. You are a hero. You've saved lives, fought monsters. There are holes here and there, but you remember bits and pieces, enough to put together the big picture...

You are a male half-orc. You have lost large chunks of your memory, but you do remember some things. Namely, you have forgotten a lot of your personal back-story, namely the part about being abused by your father and living in the wild for so many years. You also do not remember anything about Baern, and the name Kala only registers a faint recollection that it was someone you were friends with at one time. You remember the raid on Sandpoint, but not your part in it. You remember fighting in Thistletop, but again, what it was you actually accomplished. You do not remember anything about the investigation of the murders in Sandpoint, or the farmhouse, but you have a vivid memory of the fight with the Skinsaw man and why you came to Magnimar, as well as who you arrived here with.

Roll: 1d100 ⇒ 57
Gender: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Memory: 1d2 ⇒ 2

Everyone else.

As morning rolls on and becomes noon, Eugeni still has not returned. The sun has reached its peak and slowly begin its downward march through the sky, and no word or sign of him has reached you.

Waiting for him, though, allows you to overhear several people talking nervously as the go about their day to day lives here in the City of Monuments. Piecing the stories together, it is clear that a disturbingly familiar spate of murders is plaguing Magnimar. Stories of merchants, politicians, crooked guards, and moneylenders showing up dead - their bodies mutilated, faces missing, and chests carved with seven-pointed stars - seem to be on everyone's lips.

Eugeni, I give you the option to roll the d100 as well, in your next post, and take the result you prefer. I had considered that originally, and Zoli suggested it too, so I'm feeling generous.

This time Morythine opts to stay in the same inn as his companions when they arrive in Magnimar; perhaps a sign of his increasing faith in them – although he makes sure his quarters are as far away from Destrina’s as possible.

By the time he has risen the sun has already risen to a discomforting height, and he’s grateful to discover Zoli has already ventured out for breakfast. Picking thoughtfully through a handful of medlars, he listens to people in the tavern discuss the news of the city, whilst keeping a watchful eye on their sacks of loot yet to be sold.

He raises his eyebrows at hearing the Skinsaw Murders have spread to Magnimar.

Eugeni looks down and examines his new body. His skin is smooth and hairless, a light green color. He feels stronger than before too. Holy s!#!, it worked! I'm not the dog man anymore!

He tries to focus to answer the elven man's question, but it takes longer than normal. "Just pieces. I'm from Sandpoint, I'm a hero there. Me and my friends came here to investigate a serial killer we stopped in the town..." he trails off, realizing he feels mentally lighter. There are large gaps in his memory, but somehow it leaves him feeling relieved rather than confused. He looks up at the sun. "Oh s#~%! I've been here all day. Thank you so much, but I have to go. My friends will be worried about me!"

The archer quickly gathers his gear and puts it back on. I don't seem to have changed in size too much, that's good. With one last smile for the elves, and a deep bow for their leader, Eugeni hustles back to the inn.

As the companions share the bread and fruit, Zoli makes sure to save one Medlar back for Eugeni. They're so good, and you can't get them anywhere in Sandpoint.

As the morning winds on though and he's not yet back from his walk, she thinks, Well, maybe he's having his own breakfast then. I hope the walk does help him clear his mind anyway!

She notices that as she's musing she's cut the last medlar in half. Shrugging, she eats one half and saves the last for Eugeni.

Where is he, anyway? What on earth is taking him so long?

Her fingers absentmindedly bring the last half a medlar up to her lips. Oh shoot! Can't very well save it for him now, can I?

She shrugs and pops the last bite into her mouth. As she does so she sees a half-orc walk in wearing what looks like Eugeni's clothes, and with Eugeni's enchanted bow on his back. Thoroughly confused she stands up (lip still dripping with medlar) and says, "Who are you? Where did you get that stuff, that's not yours!"

Her hand goes to the hilt of the scimitar Baern made her, but she doesn't draw it yet.

Greetings to the Select Seven!

Please check in here and let me know you have found your way to the thread. Also, for those of you selected, feel free to start getting to know each other during the intervening time between now and game start. The setting remains the same, and will be continuous with the current happenings within the festival, in the same thread. However, time is passing and the festival will slowly be winding down as Wednesday approaches (my next day off, not counting the Super Bowl tomorrow).

I will spend tomorrow going over the actual crunch of the submissions and providing feedback. One thing I noticed at a glance: very few of you listed your encumbrances. Please do the math and list those values, as they will be a factor. If you have a lot of gear, you need to decide what it is you are carrying, what is left behind, what is on your mount, etc.

Since most of those posts were from characters that are now gone, you could probably read from Ravboom's thrown mug post here if you wanted to jump in now. It isn't that much of a read and should give you enough to get an intro worked out.

Then again if you're traveling with limited internet that may not work either.

Alright, I updated my character sheet with detailed weight breakdowns and encumbrance limits. I have it set up with what the mount, when I get it, will be carrying as well.

I'll be buying the lance after I get the horse, but carrying some of the stuff it's currently carrying.

List of things I'll be carrying till I get the horse:

Fishing Kit 3 lbs.
Grappling Hook 4 lbs.
Iron Pot 4 lbs.
Silk Rope 5 lbs.
3 Torches 3 lbs.
3 days Trail Rations 3 lbs.
----Total 22 lbs.

My total weight carried will be 135.76 lbs. which puts me into medium encumbrance. Medium encumbrance has the same penalties or less than my scale mail, so no difference in stats.

Also, if everybody could mirror Kala's stat info in the Class/Level line of their profile I'd appreciate it.

Edit: I guess I'll take plant instead of good. It appears they made a mistake and didn't name the minor blessing. The PDF just says "Name". So I'm going to call it entangling strike for now.

Also, heads up to high BAB/high strength people. I can do this: As a standard action you can touch one ally to grant it feral features. The ally gains 2 claw attacks that deal 1d6 points of damage (if the creature is Medium, 1d4 if it is Small) or 1 bite attack that deals 1d8 points of damage (if the creature is Medium, 1d6 if it is Small). These are primary natural attacks that replace any similar primary natural attacks the ally might have. This effect lasts for 1 minute.

It's not very useful for Eugeni, but if anyone would benefit from that, please let me know so I know who to use it on. Looking at the people who've posted so far, it appears Kala would benefit most from it. Giving her a bite would net her three attacks along with her shield and short sword. But mixing natural and maufactured attacks turns the natural into secondary.

So basically she'd have Shield bash +3/SSword +4/Bite +0 (1d8+2)

Where are you getting that? The playtest document I have says "one melee weapon" for all the blessings that affect weapons.

Thron, would it be possible for Baern to "upgrade" my longbow into a composite longbow, or would I need to sell it and have him craft me a new one from scratch?

My bad, I was thinking of the Sacred Weapons class feature.

The actual creation of a composite longbow is far different than a standard longbow. As such, a new one would need to be made. After that, to increase the strength bonus, I will allow it to be adjusted.

I just noticed Kala and Alina have the same campaign trait. I wonder if their relatives, Alina's uncle, save the stable master's life together or if the guy is just accident prone. If it's the latter I suspect he gives away a lot of horses and will soon be out of business. ;)

What do think Kala, do you want to merry up that part of our backgrounds?

It's Kala's brother Ragnar that helped him and died in the helping. Kala is initially here to pay respects to her months dead brother. Cleaning out a goblin encampment isn't something that one does by oneself generally, so I see no problem with them (my brother and your uncle) knowing each other.

After 200 km by motorbike over some pretty high mountains and some mind-blowing jungle I'm back home. I'll be able to post normally . . . for a week, when I'm moving jobs, house and country, so there might be some further disruption, although I'll do my very best to manage it.

I've added stats under my profile as requested and totted up the weight of my gear on my character sheet. The evil DM in me approves of GM Thron's interest in monitoring encumbrance, it's so often handwaved but it can be a very interesting extra complication, especially for low-level characters. My old party had a high percentage of small, low-strength PCs who were nearly always struggling to work around their pathetic carrying capacities, but actually it was kind of fun. Says I, who was the DM.

Ok. The timeline is a bit different than I’d originally considered but I think I can adjust. Originally I’d envisioned Alina’s uncle as a retired adventurer who had been to Sandpoint years ago but I suppose he could still be adventuring. I suppose Alina could have learned of his adventures via his letters to his daughter, who then relayed them to Alina.

Either way, dem NPC's be dead!

I added some equipment to Alayna's character sheet nothing that you expect gameplay just couple role-playing items

Hah so much for dictating on the way home on Bluetooth. "should effect" became "you expect" some how.

Okay guys, it's official. We're starting!

Some of you have yet to put your stats in your profiles for quick reference as I requested, (Looking at you Baern, Xamarath, and Zoli). It's not a requirement, but it sure does help me out a lot, so please do so soon.

When it comes to your posting, I request you do so in the following format:

In character talk, descriptive test, etc.

"Speaking"
"Thinking"
__________
Out of character talk
Move Action: XXXXXX
Standard Action: XXXXXX

Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Damage: 1d100 + 1 ⇒ (78) + 1 = 79

I invite you to take initiative in your posts, and by that I mean if you roll well enough to kill a target, feel free to describe the killing blow. If you cast a spell, roll the target's save and describe the affects appropriately. I will post any opponent's relavent information in the Campaign info tab, so look it up there. When combat is going on, I only want to see in game posts in the gameplay thread. If you need to say something out of character and only out of character, post it here in the discussion thread, including comments about current combat. This is to prevent any dice roller abuse as was accused in the earlier recruitment. I'm not accusing anyone, just want to avoid any arguments later (not that I expect any).

At any rate, let's get crackin'! Thar be goblins ta kill!

Forgot to mention, but in the case of a tie in Initiative, as just happened in the gameplay thread, I will break the tie in the following manner:

1: Higher Initiative Bonus goes first.
2: If the same, Higher Dex Bonus goes first.
3: If the same, act simultaneously.

Understood DM Thron. Just caught your gameplay post a moment ago, but it's nearly midnight here, so I'll post tomorrow (probably about 12 hours from now).

Cheers,

EDIT: I see I'm first in initiative, so I'll bash something off now!

Forgot to mention in the previous post, but the courtyard you guys are in is essentially filled with people. Not to the point that it will impede combat in any way, but they are present. Fleeing, but present. I just wasn't going to put another 50 random people on the map to account for when they served no purpose.

Also, I apologize in advance for my crude artistic ability, as well as the apparent MASSIVE size of the battle map I just made. I thought about going back and redoing it on a smaller scale, but when I realized I spent almost 4 hours on that crappy looking thing, I figured I might as well suck it up and post it.

Thirdly, If a block of PC's are up in initiative, feel free to post in any order, you do not have to necessarily wait your turn to post. I will sort it out with my round recap posts. I'd rather you go ahead and post when you have the time than wait and get held up.

Also, to keep things moving smoothly, I will, as I stated in the recruitment thread, give everyone one day to post their actions in combat, then I will post a request for an action. If I do not see an action post after another 24 hours, I reserve the right to NPC their turn for that round to move it along. I wont force a character to do anything stupid, but they will likely only do a basic attack and basic movement.

...or jump into the nearby portal that clearly leads to my demiplane balor trap. Something along those lines...

Already mentioned it to Thron, but dropping it here as well; going to swap out my familiar choice. The drawling raven just isn't jiving well in my mind for Xamarath, so I'm going to opt for something a little more colorful and outgoing (probably a thrush, but continuing to poke around).

I've tried a couple of different computers and so far I'm unable to see the map. My work computer blocks google drive, my home computer can't see the picture, and my ipad just gives an error. Is there another server, such as photobucket, we can use?

Very off topic but...why on earth does your work computer block Google drive?

If we do switch to something else please make it something that can zoom the image. However, map is working fine from my end.

My employer believes there is too much risk involved and blocks it to prevent security breaches, viruses, and other problems.

I can zoom it on my end. Any suggestions on a site to host the image? Google docs won't accept it.

Also, Baern, waiting for an action from ya. Alina, despite being surprised you can make a RP post like xamarath did.

I can usually see www.photobucket.com on all of my computers. I don't know if it allows for zooming. However most web browsers can zoom by pressing "control +" "control -" zooms out and "control 0" resets. Depending on the pic quality that may cause a bit of distortion though.

You could try making it a google docs drawing instead of whatever it is now (don't recognize that icon in the left corner). The image just has to be less than 2 MB.

I think you used photoshop to make it by looking at the image...you might want to try MapTool, that way you could zoom in on just the part we're fighting in currently and export a screenshot without having horrible distorted resolution.

Let me know if I can help in any way, I'm happy to explain how I do my maps in more detail if you want Thron.

He used the Pyromancers site I believe. More than likely, he just uploaded the picture file itself to Google Drive. Forgot about this myself but rediscovered it with my latest upload in Fang & Shackle—just create a new Google Drawing file and then copy and paste the image in there instead of uploading the image directly. Not sure if that will solve matters for Alina, but should make editing the battle map easier at least.

That's what I do also. Or you can go to insert->image and browse to it on your hard drive. Hopefully changing the type of google doc to a drawing would let Alina access it from home at least.

Not sure if it was noticed but I posted an action and then deleted it when I noticed Morythine say there were only 2 goblins left. Figuring the combat is almost over, I'm going to try and check out the map and then post something more effective than what I'd origionally planned.
