"R...Runelord? You mean like back in ancient times? Perhaps you should go speak with Brodert. Brodert Quink that is. He claims that the Old Light has somethin' to do with those people. Maybe he'll have a better idea as to what's going on." The guard stammers, eyeing the magnificent polearm with awe and curiosity.

Feel free to amend any of the following if any of you have something you'd rather do. Just going with what I think would be the logical course of action based on what's been stated so far and personalities.

Eugeni and Zoli return back to her home, while Kala carries the unconscious Morythine to the Cathedral for some healing. As she climbs the steps, an acolyte spots her and holds one of the double doors open for her to enter, and guides her to the nearby healing chambers. There she gently places him on one of the cots as the acolyte quickly gathers up supplies and returns to his side. He mutters a quick spell, and his hand begins glowing a faint white. He is about to touch it to Morythine when from the doorway a voice yells, "Do not apply that spell to him, Brother Joran, unless you want to possibly end his life!"

The acolyte pulls his hand back with a shocked expression on his face, holding the magic for the moment. Father Zantus approaches, and kneels beside the cot. "Do you not see that this man is not like us?" he says as he raises Morythine's upper lip, revealing the over sized incisors. "A normal healing spell would likely kill him, in his weakened state. Normally, we would not tend to one of his kind in this sacred place, but given all that you, he, and the rest of your companions have done for this town, we will take care of him through the night."

He then looks to Brother Joran and nods towards Kala, "You've already called upon the Dawnflower's blessing, Brother. Best not let it go to waste." Father Zantus then begins tending to Morythine's wounds himself, using bandages and salves.

After he binds all of the man's wounds, he rises, shaking his head. "I do not know if that will help, but a dhampir's body reacts so differently to things it was mostly guesswork on my part as to what ointments and poltices to try. Hopefully he will regain consciousness in the morning."

He wipes off his hands and then asks, "Are there anymore of your number hurt? If so they should come here to be treated, yourself included. How did you all get these horrendous injuries anyway? I had heard that there was some sort of commotion at the Glassworks...is that where you got these?"

Cure Light Wounds on Kala: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Heal Check: Treat Deadly Wounds on Morythine: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
Desna (or Father Zantus) hates Dhampirs
Heal Check: Long Term Care: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
Okay, so if you all gather at the Cathedral, you can either gain 4 hit points if you stay 8 hours, or 8 if you stay a full 24 hours. Not mandatory, but Father Zantus is willing to tend to your wounds should you all come let him "take care of you." wink wink nod nod eh? This, of course, is reliant on Kala coming to gather up you other two hurt people. Xam, what do you want to do, seeing as you are the only uninjured party....?

On the presumption Morythine returns to consciousness within the cathedral come morning …

Slowly, vision returns. Morythine’s eyes have been open for a while, but it’s taken longer for his blurry surroundings to resolve themselves into something his brain can make sense of. His body feels as stiff as piece of desiccated wood, and he fears that should he move too quickly he will come apart at the seams.

Where am I the thought knocks about the dhampir’s skull as he regards the chambers he finds himself in, the grand stonework yet unweathered by the passage of time, the butterfly reliefs etched into the mantels of the windows and doors, the other invalids sharing the room with him, their bodies bearing jagged wounds inflicted by crude goblin blades. The Cathedral Morythine concludes.

Fear grips him. They do not know what I am he realises And I’m cursed to suffer through the blessings of the goodly gods. A prayer meant in kindness might be the last nail in my coffin!

Morythine edges himself of his cot, careful not to dislodge the bandages coddling his wounds, nor to let any rough contact aggravate his injuries. His clothes are bloody tatters, but they’ll have to do. He looks for his possessions, knowing that within the potion remains that might bear him back to his unnatural manner of life.

Once imbibed, he knows he must flee the temple.

Having just had a minor surgery myself, I’m rather sympathizing with Morythine here! Having been unconscious during Father Zantus’ visit, Morythine’s freaking out fearing some benevolent cleric will try to heal with positive energy!

If his possessions are at hand, he’ll drink his potion of inflict light wounds and then sneak out of the cathedral to go in search of his companions. If he can’t find his gear, he’ll creep around the cathedral looking for it.

Stealth check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

Going to DMPC all you wounded folk to the Cathedral, partly for convenience with healing, partly to maintain my sanity and not split the group into three pieces.

Early Afternoon, day of the Glassworks fight:

As the others head to the Cathedral to try to get patched up, Xamarath takes the elaborate ranseur to this Brodert Quink fellow to attempt to see what he knows about the ruins beneath the town. The guard directs him just down the road towards the ruins of the "Old Light" at the end of Tower Street. At the base of that buildings ruins lies an old house, far older than most other buildings in Sandpoint.

A knock on the door goes unanswered. A second knock elicits a muffled response from within the building, "Hold your horses already! I'm coming!"

Opening the door is a balding man who appears to be in his seventies, dressed in fine clothes, albeit out of style currently. He continues his rant without even looking at the red robed man at the door, "If this is about the map I borrowed from Veznutt last week, tell him I'll return it in a few..." he stops mid sentence when he finally looks up and takes stock of the man before him. He only briefly makes eye contact before his eyes become glued upon the weapon Xamarath carries. He adjusts his glasses on his nose to get a better look, then raises his hand, shaking from either age, excitement, or both, and says, "Where did you come by that!? Do you know what that is!? Can I have a closer look!? What are you standing out here for? Come in! Come in!"

Inside, the house appears to have been converted into one gigantic study. Papers are pinned to nearly every surface, consisting of notes, maps, theories, and more that have probably been forgotten about among all the clutter. The man leads you into his "office" and directs Xamarath to sit, but then realizes the chair is full of notes and quickly swipes his arms across the surface, scattering the papers along the floor, mixing with many others. A similar motion is done to the desk, where he gestures for Xamarath to place the weapon.

He then sits across from the Thayvian and looks at him expectantly, then says, "Well, do go on! Where did you find this!?"

In the Cathedral, the next morning:

As Morythine comes to, it is clear to the others gathered that he is overcome with a moment of panic. When he begins to try to get up, Brother Joran approaches and says soothingly, "Easy there, friend. You are safe here. We've been tending your wounds for the past several hours. At least until Father Zantus can memorize the proper spells to tend to the injuries of...one of your kind...But even so, you need your rest. All of you were quite badly injured when you arrived, and we've been doing our best to tend to those injuries. Now lie back and relax. You are in good hands."

Looking about the room, Morythine can see Zoli lieing on a cot next to him, with Eugeni sitting on the side of a cot just past her. Kala stands by the window, for once unarmored, looking out a stained glass window. Bandages are covering each of their various wounds, similar to yours. Though, judging by the color of the ointments seeping through, the healer tending to your wounds has used different materials than they did with them.

Yes, as well as 8 hp if you remain there until early afternoon, which would be 24 hours of Long Term Care.

His newfound companions are gathered about him. They know. he realises, surprised at the crushing disappointment the knowledge evokes. He sinks further into cot, awaiting the vilification that always comes.

Sad I don’t get to sneak around the Cathedral! Morythine’s now on 9 hp. He’d probably prefer to take 24 hours rest and get a little stronger, but with his companions likely discovery that he is a dhampir, he’ll also be feeling uncomfortable and eager to please. Thus, if they want to head out after eight hours he’ll follow without complaint.

Of course, Morythine can also channel to heal himself, but I’m imagining such a thing would disturb his companions greatly. It’s also a power I’d like to have him ‘discover’ organically ‘in-character’ (likely when he’s on death’s door).

Later on, he’ll also go looking for more potions of inflict light wounds. Perhaps there’s a shadier character about Sandpoint willing to sell such things, who could be contacted with the right gather information check. Even if Father Zantus can cast inflict wounds, I wouldn’t imagine it’s something he’d be comfortable doing often.

Indeed, it is not something he is fond of asking Desna to grant him, but for a hero of Sandpoint he was willing this time to do so for you in this emergency. Nothing is stopping you from having a look see about the Cathedral, you aren't prisoners here.

Eventually, Father Zantus enters the healing chamber and says, "Ah, our friend here has finally awaken. I prepared a bit of magic to help your wounds mend quicker."

He says a quiet prayer to Desna, and his hands glow with a seething dark grey energy. He places them above Morythine's chest, and the magic flows into his body.

Inflict Light Wounds: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

He then turns to Zoli and says another prayer, and his hands glow a radiant white, which he holds over her body, her wounds mending as well.

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Afterwards, he asks, "So, anyone ready to tell me how you came by these wounds. They are clearly not all caused by weapons, and I've tended enough goblin bites lately to know that didn't cause these," pointing at one of the bite marks on Zoli.

"Easy, old fellow. This was recovered in a ruin beneath your village mere hours ago. Turns out there's some sort of vault or shrine or somesuch structure intact down there. Also turns out that it's devoted to one of your Runelords of Olde: Alaznist. Wrathful and beautiful and all those other words I don't care to repeat for a third time today. The place was crawling with strange creatures in possession of pale skin, ill temper, and clawed mandables. I've not seen their like in this world or... yeah. Uncommon, whatever they are. At least, I hope so. I'd hate to think of an entire country swarming with the bastards." Xamarath finally abandons his speech to give the man what he desires. He lays the polearm out on the cleared table and waits for the man to inevitably gush and bluster for a few minutes before making sense.

Flight back from Europe and first day at PAX were hectic. Sorry about not posting.

Though inwardly somewhat alarmed by the revelation of Morythine's nature, Kala decides that deeds are more important than heritage. After all, "the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb."

Noticing his alarmed state, Kala walks over to the dhampir and says, "Morythine, fear not that your blood will drive us to hatred of you. Your deeds have proven your worth."

Unable to read Eugeni’s canine features, Morythine is at a loss until Kala’s words overturn all his expectations. A slight tremble flickers over his skin, a physical manifestation of his shock that these strangers, with whom he has only shared familiarity with in battle, may not yet turn away from him.

Too cautious to let hope flare too brightly, Morythine does at least find the courage to admit his breeding.

“In the cold, stark light of truth,” he says quietly “You would describe me as the spawn of a vampire. Though not in the way it is told by the bards – I’ve not been drained of life and will, but in the most real and visceral way.

“My father was a vampire, but I was conceived not by blood, but by my mother’s foolish passions. She rutted with a thing of darkness, and I am the progeny of that ill-fated day. In Ustalav they call such offspring dhampirs.

Morythine falls silent again, but he rests easy in his cot. After a while a question comes to his lips.

”Has anybody seen my hat?

Morythine’s back at full health and good to go, provided he can find his tricorn.

Looks like with Eugeni's healing + Father Z's 9 HP CLW + 8 HP from convalescing Zoli is more than ready to tumble again! ;0)

In response to Morythine's revelation, Zoli is equal parts horrified and excited. "So, your dad's a real vampire? What's he like? What was it like, growing up like that?"

With a glance toward the Red Wizard and Eugeni, she adds "Who'd have thought that you'd give our star-traveler and our angel-hound a run for their money in the weirdness department!" then, trailing off into her own flight of fancy (as clear a sign as any that Eugeni's and Father Zanthus' healing magic had been a success) she continues, "...of course in the tales it's often the quiet types with something to hide, eh? Why didn't I guess? Wow, my first dhampir!"

When Father Zantus asks about their adventures, she mentions in a conspiratorial whisper that they fought some twisted beasts and encountered a statue of -- of all things -- the ancient Thassilonian Runelord of Wrath, Alaznist.

Then, sitting upright, "We should get back down there! Who knows what else is going on down there? Is the sheriff back yet? We should tell him too -- and make sure not to tell anyone else, since we still don't know who all is involved in this mess. What if it wasn't just Tsuto? What would Heroic Hanzietta Halfpint do in this situation?"

Tsuto's Journal:
This small, leather-bound booklet contains two dozen parchment pages, most of which Tsuto has filled with maps of Sandpoint or erotic drawings of Nualia, the adopted aasimar daughter of Father Tobyn, presumed dead in the fire that claimed the previous church. The maps each depict different attack plans. The first set shows the attack plans for a group of thirty goblins; one of these battle maps is circled, and you recognize it as the attack the goblins made on Sandpoint. Following this map, Tsuto has written:

"The raid went about as planned. Few Thistletop goblins perished, and we were able to secure Tobyn’s remains with ease while the rubes were distracted by the rest. I can’t wait until the real raid. This town deserves a burning, that’s for sure."

Of more pressing concern are the next several pages, which illustrate an assault on Sandpoint by a force of what appears to be two hundred goblins. None of these appear to have been settled on, as of yet. These maps are followed by another written entry:

"Ripnugget seems to favor the overwhelming land approach, but I don’t think it’s the best plan. We should get the quasit’s aid. Send her freaks up from below via the smuggling tunnel in my father’s Glassworks, and then invade from the river and from the Glassworks in smaller but more focused strikes. The rest except Bruthazmus agree, and I’m pretty sure the bugbear’s just being contrary to annoy me. My love’s too distracted with the lower chambers to make a decision. Says that once Malfeshnekor’s released and under her command, we won’t need to worry about being subtle. I hope she’s right."

The last pair of pages contain a drawing on the right, a detailed depiction of Nualia, except in the form of a succubus. Opposite this illustration, Tsuto has written:

"My love seems bent on going through with it—nothing I can say convinces her of her beauty. She remains obsessed with removing what she calls her 'celestial taint’ and replacing it with her Mother’s grace. Burning her father’s remains at the Thistletop shrine seems to have started the transformation, but I can’t say her new hand is pleasing to me. Hopefully when she offers Sandpoint to Lamashtu’s fires, her new body won’t be as hideous. Maybe I’ll luck out. Succubi are demons too, aren’t they?"

As Zoli is on vacation, I will DMPC her action regarding reading this...

Xamarath joins the others at the Cathedral, and the adventurers begin their search through their hard won new resources for anything of use as well as donning their arms and armor for their second foray into the tunnels. Zoli reaches over and picks up the small, leather book, and begins skimming it's pages. She recoils at a few of the pages, but studies others in depth and eyes grow in alarm at others. Eventually she calls out, "Um...guys...you all might want to take a look at this. It looks like we're barely scratching the surface of this whole thing..."

Unless the journal information changes your minds about going back down, I'll resume the dungeon delve, following the same path, come morning.

"Whatever's going on below must be put to a stop." Kala says as she finishes reading the journal. "We must also, however, deliver these plans to Sandpoint's guards so they may prepare defenses. We cannot allow whatever demonic ritual this Nualia is planning to happen." With that, the warrior finishes donning her armor and sets about strapping her myriad weapons into place.

Is the sheriff back yet? Or our goblin-hunting halfelf friend? If so let's let them in on this before we leave. Otherwise, let's just head back down and try to save the world!

For once Zoli takes a thorough stock of her possessions before departing...perhaps her recent brush with death has made her less distractable? Maybes so, or maybe--SQUIRREL!!

Belor left for Magnimar just barely before you guys even made it to the White Deer tavern for breakfast with Shalelu. And she left for her little foray into the wilderness when you guys went to the Glassworks, and has not returned.

Once everyone has made their preparations, they make their way back to the Glassworks, finding the sight under guard. However, they are not opposed once they explain that they are heading back down to deal with the tunnels. The head guardsman says, "There were terrible sounds coming outta those tunnels all night long. If you can put whate'er is down there down, then more power to ya!"

As the group winds their way back into the catacombs, they eventually return, unhindered, to where they had last fought. Morythine's hat, however, is not to be found...

Continuing down their original path, the tunnel widens here into what appears to have once been a small shrine, for to the northeast steps lead up to a platform of gray stone. Sitting atop the platform is an ancient altar, little more than a jagged block of black marble with a shallow concavity on top of it. This basin is filled with what appears to be filthy water. Opposite the entrance to this chamber are a set of closed double doors. All but Kala notice the faint golden glow emanating from beneath and between the doors.

"Xamarath, can you check that altar for magic? Also, can anyone determine if that dirty looking water is dangerous. I'm considering feeling around in it to see if there's anything on the altar, but I'm worried I'll get sick or something. Blue light under the door ahead in case you guys can't see it. I'm going to go take a listen," Eugeni says very quietly to his companions. He sneaks up to the double doors and presses one of his long ears to its surface to listen.

Take 2 minutes and take 20 for a 28 to listen at the door.

"Sure. Playing in mucky water is always fun." Xamarath approaches the altar with eyes aglow, eager to piece together what nature of magic might be at work on the ancient marble block or the dirty water contained within.
