Since you only need to announce smite once you hit, the spell slot is not expended. Also divine smite deals 2d8 damage for a level 1 slot.
You might want to try a d20 for your butt end attack, it might make for a higher chance to hit than a d1. And finally: don't forget you still have two types of inspiration.
Thanks sorry bout that
butt end of Halberd: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
I think I'll go for the regular inspiration. the RnG is not with me today
butt end of Halberd Inspired: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Maybe the D1 was the best die to choose :P
Evendur "Grim" Greymantle |
The warrior priest faces the one that dropped Sophie and calls down holy fire on it
DC13 1d8 ⇒ 5
Venali Auondril |
Venali takes a deep breath before raising his blade to his face, he slashes it through the air, leveling it and aiming it at the drake's eyes. "Well then, let us dance."
Enter Bladesong, AC increased to 19. Other things too, but not important right now.
The corner of his mouth raises in a half smile as his demeanor changes, a slight glimmer enters his eyes. He quickly lunges forward, aiming at the beast's heart.
Elven Thinblade: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Piercing Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
GM Threeshades |
Initiative Order
- Kobold Warrior
- Sophie
- Kobold Mage, Kobold Rogue and Drake
- Zillyanna, Venali, Hutch, Evendur
Seeing Sophie fall throws hutch off completely. In his anger, his strikes become imprecise and the kobold easily deflects them with its green-scaled shield.
Evendur casts divine flame upon the kobold.
Dexterity save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Bathed in holy light, it gets scorched, albeit only lightly.
Venali's blade pierces the drake's hide at the shoulder but does not bite deep enough to find its heart. The he withdraws the blade from a deep wound nonetheless.
As blows are raining on its shield, the kobold weighs its options for a moment, it then braces its spear and stabs it at Zillyanna.
Spear 1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Piercing Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Spear 2: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Piercing Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
The sharp instruments bits into her left thigh and then the side of her hip just above. The pain overwhelms the elf and she collapses as well.
The kobold mage circles along the wall as it spins another orb of energy to release at venali.
Spell Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
But the bladesinger dances around the orb, and it impacts against the wall next to him with an electric crackle.
The drake lunges forward gnashing teeth.
Bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
But bites only thin air, as the elf evades the attack with ease.
Zillyanna and Sophie are up for a Death save, everyone else is up for their turn.
Evendur "Grim" Greymantle |
I think we are in deep crap
Evendur moves over Sophies body and attacks the Kobold
Sword: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 for 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Venali Auondril |
Quite possibly. Might be a good idea for us to start looking at making new characters? *nervous chuckle*
As he sidesteps around the arcane orb and dodes away from the drake's teeth he lunges forward to take another stab at the beast.
Elven Thinblade: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Piercing Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Hutch Calrin |
Don't let the DM know XD. But I have to admit I have been holding out. I should still have a potion of healing plus my 10 go of lay on hands. If Sophie and Zilly can hold on for a bit they should be fine. Granted if we go down....
Seeing the elf go down reignited his blood. I won't loose Sophie again, and I won't let my allies die. I don't know if the gods care, but if Evendurs God decides to help out I can fill his kingdom with two more kobolds.
Bellowing a series of enraged giberish, he lashes out at the kobold closest to his wife and new soldier. halberd: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16 damage: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 The might of Kelemvor :p
What am I thinking. Damn the gods they won't take Sophie from me again!
He follows it up with a quick spin bringing the butt of the weapon to the other kobolds jaw, striking with unholy power.butt end halberd: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 crit damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4divine smite : 2d8 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7crit divine smite : 2d8 ⇒ (7, 2) = 9 Does 23 damage kill the kobold? :p
GM Threeshades |
A crit only doubles the dice, not your strength bonus. So thats 21 damage from that smite-crit. But the other attack also hit.
Evendur steps up, standing over Sophie's unconscious form, he brings his sword down upon the kobold, cutting a gash across its muzzle.
Hutch, with vigor renewed by his rising anger arcs his halberd toward the creature, cutting only a scratch into its left arm, but then the shaft of the polearm smashes into its jaw, glowing with divine might, breaking and dislocating the creatures's jaw and sending it stumbling. But yet, the kobold stands.
Venali stabs his thinblade at the drake again, cutting even deeper this time. Despite the grievous wound, the drake stands.
Since neither Sophie nor Zillyanna are at risk from dying this round I'll just continue. But I will roll for them if they haven't done so by the time everyone else's next turns are posted.
The kobold warrior now turns its attention toward hutch. Part of its jaw crooked to one side, blood all over its face and arm, this creature is not only unusually tough, but also surprisingly stubborn for one of its kind. Its spear stabs forward twice.
Spear 1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Piercing Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Spear 2: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
The spear finds its mark, stabbing into hutch's left arm. The kobold withdraws the weapon for another thrust, but this time hutch is ready and deflects it with his halberd.
Up above, the drake continues to snap at Venali.
Bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
But the elf's bladesong makes vits efforts futile as he weaves past every snap of its jaws.
The spellcasting kobold, seeing how difficult the elf makes itself to hit, weaves another orb of energy and launches it down at Evendur this time.
Spell Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
With discharge of flame, the orb slams against Evendur's shield uselessly.
Hutch takes 5 piercing damage.
Everyone up. Sophie and Zilly now for 2 death saves.
Hutch Calrin |
You are mine Kobold! Hutch growls, attacking again. I don't know if I can keep taking such a beating. But It can't kill me if it is dead.
halberd: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
damage: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
butt end of halberd: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
If this doesn't kill it I call for grabbing Sophie and Zilly followed by a tactical withdrawl, and bringing in all the fire starter to actually burn down the mill.
GM Threeshades |
Hutch's halberd bites deep into the Kobold's shield arm, forcing it to drop the shield, and opening its defense. He thrusts the other end of the weapon at the kobold's face, smashing it into its maw, almost piercing out of the back of its head, as it crushes the kobold's spine. The kobold drops its spear, and flops to the ground at hutch's feet, as he pulls his weapon from the creature's mouth.
Evendur "Grim" Greymantle |
Evendur casts 'Spare the dying' on Sophie
Edit: Scratch that - casts 'Cure Wounds' on Sophie.
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Venali Auondril |
Continuing to weave around the drake's biting, Venali takes a moment to reach for his waterskin, looking at the spellcasting kobold.
He pulls the lid off with his teeth before throwing it in the air, thrusting out his hand toward the kobold through the falling water. A shard of ice forms in the air, a deadly point forming on the end facing the kobold before it flies forward like a thrown dagger.
Ice Knife: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Piercing Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 3
Dex save, DC 13 or takeCold Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 5) = 6
Crossing fingers for a failed save.
GM Threeshades |
Dex save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Despite the distraction of the creature assailing him, Venali aims true. The ice blade lodges itself in the kobold's chest and explodes, the icy blast freezing its body against the wall. A refreshing shower of minute snowflakes descends upon the group below.
Sophie's up
GM Threeshades |
The drake's head turns to the side, taking in its situation. The draconic beast growls and backs away from Venali carefully, the blood still gushing from the wounds in its shoulders and running down its front legs. It keeps its gaze fixed on the elf, growling, but takes an entirely defensive posture in the corner.
Zillyanna death save: 1d20 ⇒ 17 Zilly is stabilized.
We're out of initiative for now
GM Threeshades |
The creature stays in its corner fixed on Venali emitting a near constant low growl. Its head lowers closer to the ground.
Hutch Calrin |
Hutch, unable to see the Drake, approaches Zilly, dark power forming around his hand. He scowls and places his hand on her forehead, the power running into her. healing 4 points with Lay on Hands
Get up soldier. Sleep on the job and I dock your share of our profits. Hutch says as his unholy power heals her.
Evendur "Grim" Greymantle |
The beast seems to understand your words and it seems like it is surrendering
Venali Auondril |
Insight: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Venali's demeanor returns to normal as he calls down to the group, blade still raised. "What do we want to do about this drake? For what it's worth, I'd prefer letting it leave alive. I did make that offer in return for surrender."
GM Threeshades |
Between the three kobolds you can find 5 platinum, 12 gold and 11 silver pieces. The shield bearing warrior has three spears (including the one it threw), leather armor and a shield of thick, scaly hide. The hooded kobold has two shortswords, a shortbow and 19 arrows. The Mage has a crude construction of wood and leather strapped to its shoulders, made to resemble dragon wings, pouch filled with a strange assortment of small items you recognize as common spell components, and a dagger. Other than this, the kobolds have their individual clothing which does not resemble the cult's uniform attire.
Sophie "Payn" Calrin |
Who's keeping track of loot?
Sophie sits down heavily. "Whatever our plans for the future, I suggest a pause. I am spent in both life and soul, and require a rest afore I shall be worth aught in further martial pursuits."
Evendur "Grim" Greymantle |
I agree... but first lets remove the tinder and fire friendly material from the outside of the mil - it will be some confusion before they return to the scene and by then we will be long gone back to the Keep
Venali Auondril |
Venali lowers his arm to his side before returning the blade to its scabbard. Very well, apparently they don't mind. He turns back to face the wounded drake and reaches out a hand with a quick motion to follow.
He turns and makes his way down the stairs, being wary of the drake's movements as he descends.
Taking the Dodge action the whole way down the stairs I guess?
"Well, there doesn't seem to be much if any damage done to the building itself." He stands back and watches as Evendur starts moving the tinder that was not yet set ablaze.
Ignore that if the fire had not been started, I honestly forget and am trying to do this quickly while at work. I'll likely add to this when I get home to finish the reaction to everyone else's posts.
GM Threeshades |
Once it has an unblocked way out, the drake hurries down the stairs and out the door, scampering off into the night.
Cleaning up the fires is not difficult, most of them are in hardly any danger of actually lighting up the mill and some can just be pushed over into the moat, extinguishing quickly.
As you settle down to take a while to recover from the strains of the near copnstant fighting, a group of a dozen men arrives at the mill. They look like some of the soldiers you saw in the keep in the town center, they are bloody, but look healthy. Most of the blood on them probably is not their own.
One of them, a man with a greying beard but strong freatures, approaches leading the group "Looks like you are cutting vertiable a swath through these raiders! They must be soiling their breeches at the thought of running into you by now!", he laughs.
"Nighthill sent us to keep the mill safe. Sorry for taking so long, we had to make sure there are enough to keep the crowd calm and had to gear up. Once you're rested up you should head back to the keep."
Evendur "Grim" Greymantle |
Stand guard with here for about an hour while we tend our wounds and prepare for the next fight.
Short Rest
Using 2 HD 2d8 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6 - that brings me to 14 HPs
Sophie "Payn" Calrin |
Payn eventually slides down until she's just laying prone on the mill-house floor. She shifts her gaze slightly as the newcomers arrive, but otherwise takes the opportunity of the rest to remain completely motionless for a full hour.
Hit dice!: 2d8 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4
The rest seems to have restored her but little, though she still rises.
"Shall we to the keep then?"
Hutch Calrin |
short rest: 2d10 + 4 ⇒ (3, 1) + 4 = 8
Hutch smiles as he dusts himself off. Sophie was up before you elf, and I would never ask her to do anything since she seems to be able to deal with stuff on her own. Right Soph?
Evendur "Grim" Greymantle |
Also remember to add your Con modifier to each die.
Sweet - full HP
Zillyanna Duskwood |
"She was also down before, and probably woudn't be up if i didn't step up to, you know, kill the kobold you missed twice.", she answers, turning her back to Hutch and starting to walk towards the keep before he can answer.
Teenage rage!
Sophie "Payn" Calrin |
Sry. Too sick for witty intra-party banter.
*Insert snarky remark about almost killing Zillyanna but then not doing so because she's still useful to vaguely-hinted at long-term goals, ending with sultry and overtly sexual double entendre at Hutch here.*
Hutch Calrin |
In a class on the phone but this is too good to pass up.
*insert snarky remark to Zillyana implying that Hutch knew that Sophie wouldn't die. Followed by a reply to Sophie that somehow belittles other men and somehow is similar to an overly manly man meme*
Sophie "Payn" Calrin |
Everyone's not waiting on me to get to 100% are they? Because this thing is a holding me down like a 2-ton...heavy...thing. By all means just drag my carcass along by the foot until I get up. =p
