The outbuildings to the east look to be a gazebo in an overgrown garden to the northwest, and what is likely a mausoleum hidden in the trees to the southeast.
The Garden
This wild garden is flush withcolors and full of scents both
sharp and sweet. A gazebo toppedwith a weather vane sits in the
northeast corner of the garden.
The Mausoleum
Hidden amid a copse of gnarled trees sits a large mausoleumof polished granite. Statues of weeping angels of greentingedbronze flank the closed entrance. A tarnished silverdoorplate on the black steel door reads, “Sarini.” Ingrge quickly spots that the wings of the angels have mechanical components in them, making them a cleverly concealed trap.
Quinn Burrows |
Quinn hunkers down and squints as Ingrge get to work on the trap, expecting the worst.
"Thieves live short lives..."
Truddig |
While Ingrge is busy trying to disable a trap on the mausoleum door, Truddig give the gazebo a close inspection, just to be sure they're not missing something there.

Out of the overgrown foliage, a huge sticky tongue lashes out, and instantly pulls him 10 feet through some brambles, leaving him with some irritating scratches. Truddig finds himself at the mouth of a giant frog, wrapped up in the creature's tongue.

GM Thrawn |
Anyone moving through bushes needs a DC12 fortitude save. I believe Khafra did move through and Quinn didn't? However, with the combat over, it won't be relevant.
Khafra cuts down the frog in a single cut, forcing it to release Truddig.
Combat over
The gazebo seems to be sturdy, but old. Nothing of value seems to be around.
Truddig |
"Thanks Khafra. That thing surprised the stones out of me." Truddig brushes himself off, and finds that he's none the worse for wear. He heads back over towards the mausoleum, where Ingrge appears to still be working on that trap.
Ingrge |
Once Ingrge has the trap disarmed, he'll await for his friends to join him, whispering, "If one of you melee types wants to open the door, I'll cover you," as he readies his longbow...
GM Thrawn |
Once inside the mausoleum, you find two stone coffins stand on a dais, and several more coffins lie on shelves built into the walls. The coffins on the dais were likely made for the baron and baroness, but their bodies were never laid to rest, and the coffins remain empty. The inconsiderate lynch mob didn't give them proper burials in this tomb after they finished.
One of the other coffins contains the bones of an adolescent boy. The corpse is still clutching an old journal, whose dedication reads “to Luca.” Moisture has rendered the journal nearly illegible, and it would likely take hours to get anything of use from it. Luca’s coffin also contains a palm-sized golden disk with a winged eye carved onto it.
The disk is a holy symbol of Aroden.
Khafra Almaktoum |
Khafra is much more familiar with the deities of his own land.
"I am not sure I have seen this before," he says, unable to help.
"We should leave the dead to their rest. I would not disturb their repose."

Khafra has no problem believing in deities that die and come back to life, it being a large part of his culture.
"Perhaps it will come true," he says. "We haven't heard of this Luca, have we?"
Ingrge |
"Perhaps we should take this holy symbol with us and head to the manor..."
Ingrge leaves the mausoleum and moves cautiously towards the manor, bow at the ready...

You find nothing else on the grounds of interest. Inside of the main entrance...
Paintings of people and landscapes adorn the walls of this once-grand entrance hall. A few small vases, most of them cracked or broken altogether, sit on semi-circular tables set against the west wall. A faint smell of mildew hangs in the air.
You quickly track the mildew smell to the cloak room on the western side of the entrance hall. A quick search of the room finds 5 usable cold iron bolts in a mostly rotted quiver, and 26 gold coins in a moldy purse.
There are three portraits depicting two proud-looking noblemen with prominent chins and a beautiful noble lady, and three landscapes of locations around the world.
Double doors lead north, with another door leading west down a hall.
You identify the nobles as Baron Marcius Sarini; Marcius’s father, Baron Lucius Sarini; and Baroness Sadira Sarini.

Saw that, but I was still in combat mode so only did a double move.
Quinn gets to the front doors and as soon as he enters, he feels stifled and almost claustrophobic. Much more preferring the outdoors and being among nature with it's open skies than inside and contained.
"Find anythin'? he asks
Truddig |
Truddig made a Perception check to investigate the eastern door; did he find anything? If not, he opens the door once others have gathered and are covering.
GM Thrawn |
You enter what looks to be a large dining room. A few pieces of silver tableware lie strewn about on a30-foot-long oak table, and more valuables are displayed ina large antique vitrine. The heads of three beasts—a dragon, lion, and goat—have been mounted above a fireplace on the
north wall.
You recall that a magical beast known as a Chimera has a dragon, lion, and goat head.
The heads mounted are actually the head of a small dragon, a lion, and a goat, not heads of a chimera.
The silver tableware you find between that on the table and other pieces in the cabinets are worth a total of about 125 gold.
Another door leads north.

"Clever" comments Hasmed as he steps into the room, looking over the heads mounted above the fireplace. "It may look like a chimera, but by the thousand gods that were, are and will be, this is not a chimera head. Just a set of different heads mounted on the wall to give you that impression."
He gestures towards the other door. "Perhaps we should try this one next" he suggests.
