Thod runs Cyphermage Dilemma (Inactive)

Game Master Thod

Grand Lodge

This thread is a recruitment thread for a PBP Pathfinder game.

I'm currently running the Carrion Crown AP for a year and have managed to get up to part 2 - still having the original group.

I'm a PFS GM since Season 1 and reached my fourth star in March that allows me to GM this scenario.

This PBP will be run as an official Pathfinder Society game. I expect players interested to post regular to keep up with the game. Short breaks are fine but you shouldn't have a long summer holiday planned.

The Cyphermage Dilemma is tier 1-5. I'm happy to GM either tier 1-2 or tier 4-5 - depending on player choice. Just be aware - your character will be out of action for a few weeks.

Your character needs to be an existing PFS character if we play tier 3-4. It can be a new character PFS character if we play tier 1-2.

To apply - please reply with information about:

a) Your Pathfinder Society Name and number

b) Previous PBP experience

c) Characters you have on offer - (level, race, class, XP)

d) Reasons to play in this PBP

I will take order of posting here - as well as b), c) and d) into account when selecting my players. I will try to be as fair as possible - but please accept my decision in case of oversubscription.

Scarab Sages

A) will provide
B) none
C) character attached
D) wife 2 kids no time for sit down game

I also have wife and 2 kids - most important is you have time to post / read the threads here.

Liberty's Edge

I'm in!

Nicholas Louie - 10774

I've played in quite a few PBP games, many through to completion. Specifically on these forums for PFS I've played through Delirium's Tangle, Cult of the Ebon Destroyers, and Mists of the Mwangi.

I'd either be playing my cavalier (4) or my fighter/wizard (2).

It's tough for me to attend conventions these days so online games is the best way for me to play exclusive mods like this one.

A. Deane Beman - PFS 6919
B. Played in a handful of PbP games, GM'd one.
C. I can play with my level 2 Rogue, or I can create something new. I can play up or use a pregen if we go 4-5.
D. As a married man it's hard to get a pass to be away from home for 8-10 hours on a weekend day. Additionally PbP offers a bit more breathing room to role play & get inside a characters head.

As far as posting goes...I tend to be available to post a lot. Between my iPad, my iPhone and desktop PCs at home and work I check my PbP games quite frequently.

Yes I work from home. Pacific time. I can post mostly at night, and around noon. I expect to have two levels of posts, a more on the fly (iPhone) type post (morning/day) and a more elaborate/frequent post at night. I’ve been playing on and off since ADD, but no play by post, figure it should be pretty straight forword.

A. Joe PFS-18601
B. Just started one on Friday, thoroughly enjoying it and would like to join another.
C. I have a level 2 Human Bard I would prefer to use, but also have a level 3 Human cleric, level 2 Aasimar cleric, and a few other ideas for new characters.
D. I am really enjoying the PBP I joined last week, and most of my in person tabletop experiences are more roll-play than role-play.

An Undead Lord is a controversial choice. Please check out some of the threads on the PFS boards where they are discussed.

I'm not sure you can start with a bloody skeleton. A bloody skeleton is up to half your level in HD = 1/2. I didn't see a min level 1. It's still time to check this on the rules boards. I'm happy to be convinced I'm wrong on that but otherwise would have to say only a normal Skeleton.
The scenario will go via sea (fluff, background) but you might want to reconsider the mule. You can leave it in Absalom - buy one when you arrive - or maybe spend the money in a different way and buy one after the scenario.
Be aware that an undead can be a burden in social encounters. We can transport him I a coffer - Alternativly I can take care you have 8 hours after the first encounter to make a companion.
Are both your traits Osirion traits? I couldn't tell without looking it up. Both traits must be of different type.

Feral

Great to see someone I know by name from the boards. It looks more like low level. A fighter/wizard sounds great.

Deane

Nice low number - you started before me. A rogue would be fine.

Sethious

We take what you like to play. I likely go for 6 players as it allows to continue if one drops out. But this means we don't need the perfectly balanced party or actually it's best not to have just tanks and damage dealers.
The level 3 cleric is likely too high if we go with such a big group. But I'm sure I manage to get enough challenge.

All

My aim is to start around the weekend - or even earlier if characters are ready which should be the case for PFS. I try to have a good amount of role-play but to ensure the story also moves on.

Please let me know if anyone has problems with undead - so we sort this out ahead of the game how we handle this so that we get a good game for everyone.

Timing - I'm on UK time. I do read in the morning and evening and will try to post then as well.

So let's see whom else we get.

If we are playing 1-2 I would go with the bard, If we are lacking a healer I can also start up a life oracle I have been considering. I guess what I am trying to say is I am willing to fill any holes in the party composition, as I would enjoy playing any of them.

Liberty's Edge

Sounds good. I'll update Markus's profile tonight with his actual character sheet when I get home tonight.

Go with the bard is my suggestion.

Alright, transferring the bard's stats onto the site now.

Which god does your cleric follow?

From the Undead Lord Archetype:
A cleric cannot take the Undead Lord Archetype unless her Deitys portfolio includes the Death domain or a similar domain that promotes undeath.

I can't see Adabar qualifying as his domains are Earth, Law, Nobility and Protection.

Of the neutral gods with the death domain I only found Pharasma - who is an unlikely sponsor of an Undead Lord Archetype - and Fandarra who is quite different from Adabar.

What are the typical gods that Undead Lords follow in PFS?

Edit: Hanspur is another neutral God with the Death domain but also seems I'll fitting. Need to check if there are any good old Osirion gods - but at least they aren't in Gods and Magic

Scarab Sages

Thanks Thod for reviewing.

If the whole undead lord thing is too cumbersome, I can build a different character. So just let me know, I just half to piece some background together.

…if I stick with Agratep…:

Controversy=up to the DM, a clear no is fine as well

Deity it is a personal schism/belief, not a specific clergy, it could be one from old forgotten Osirion gods, the rules don’t prevent it to my knowing. From a background/flavor perspective the character has been trained by followers of Adabar when he was yong, but developed his own faith based on most of the precepts but is not a cleric of Adabar.

On the skeleton side, I am not sure at all it seemed that there was no HD increase therefore it was possible. I am indifferent so plain bones it is.

No mule is fine as long as the skeleton is there to carry my gear, I can barely carry my own armor apparently…

I expect that Agratep knows better than to drag an undead to a board meeting… He can order him to stay put whereever etc… I fully expect the skeleton will not be at the characters side at all times, i.e. guarding the mule. I suppose we can even transport him in relatively compact box unpacked on arrival, he won’t complain too much…. And it can’t be that heavy. He can be animated on arrival, or just not be part of the show.

Liberty's Edge

In PFS, all clerics are required to have a patron deity that grants them their spells.

You can't do the 'worship a concept' thing.

Scarab Sages

Fair enough
I will create a happy go lucky halfling merchant cleric worshipper of Desna (luck and Travel)

Grand Lodge

Played this before - wish you were running another one... Will stay tuned for future opportunities.

a) Ian PFS-55917

b) None. This is my first PBP post.

c) Level 1 Elf Rogue (Scout)

d) I am looking for a level 1 campaign I can get into. I am brand new to PFS and PBP. There were no first steps campaigns starting up and this one seems less daunting (between overbearing players and new GM's) than some of the others. I understand I may be getting in over my head but you can't swim if you don't get wet.

/edit I don't have swim trained.

That might be a lot easier. I didn't want to pick on you but being first and with your first choice I did look pretty close to ensure I know how this works.

I did start directly into an AP. so I'm not holding this against you.

But as a warning - it is a commitment for a while.

Grand Lodge

I will start with a prelude later today. That gives an opportunity to get to know each other before the official start.

You have a ship journey to get to Riddleport - where the action will begin.

Liberty's Edge

My character is prepped and ready to go.

Markus 'Earthquake' Kalepo

Looks like we'll be teaming up twice feral, haha.

Shadow Lodge

I'd be very interested if you can clarify something for me- according to PFS, can you only play scenarios once per character or just once and can't re-play that again ever and receive credit? I've played Cyphermage on one char but I'd like to know if I can use my other for it.

Unfortunately the only way you can participate in it again is if you DM it :(

Shadow Lodge

Damnation :P

Grand Lodge

To replace Agratep

I will fluff the character out now.

Shadow Lodge

Currently reformatting my character profile similar to Feral's. I like the way his looked and it's a simple enough template for me to follow. I'll have that finished/equipped by tonight.

Grand Lodge

Okay - I'm trying to get the list together:

1) Priscilla (formerly Agratep) - Halfling Cleric 1
2) Markus (EarthQuake) Kalepo - Fighter/Wizard 2
3) Deane Beman - Rogue 2(?) waiting for details
4) Atremis del Sol - Bard 2 (Sethious)
5) Elf Rogue 1 - Ian RVA

One space left and until the game starts I take a reserve

Our starting wealth is 150gp and a set of clothing. Is this correct according to PFS rules. I'm not totally familiar with all of them yet. Also, Thod, do you have a trait restriction?

I guess there are 100+ traits by now ...

You can look on the Pathfinder Society board - top right hand corner - additional resources. That tells for each book what is / isn't allowed.

Most stuff is allowed (you just can't take 2 of the same kind - 2 combat traits, 2 magic traits). I can always check for you - no worries.

Yep - 150 gp is correct. You can't have the trait Rich parents of so (900 gp extra).

Everything (dangerous word ...) in the Core book chapter 6. And a lot (most) of the stuff from the other books.

I can always audit your character once you made him.

If you have HeroLab - there is an option in generating a character to ensure he is PFS legal and only the legal traits show up / legal items show up.
It tends to be more often correct as I'm myself (without searching for half an hour).

Liberty's Edge

If anybody wants a nice forum-formatted stat block like I've got, let me know and I'll put your character through herolab. It can export a whole character sheet with proper formatting.

Shadow Lodge

Feral I might send you a PDF later on tonight if that would be ok. I don't have herolab.

Liberty's Edge

Sounds good.

Send it to FeralAscendant at gmail dot com.

A) PFS #: 56335
B) I'm playing my first PbP here GM'ed by Lord Thasmudyan

C) Low level, I have a Dwarf Fighter Phalanx Soldier Archetype / 1. He's a gemcutter by craft who goes out and finds his wares.

D) As earlier posted, wife and kids severely limit my tabletop time. I can check and post here most of the day every day. Aching to get more game in.

I'll have my equipment and such into this alias shortly!

EDIT: Stat Block now in alias!

I haven't forgotten you. But wasn't yet sure of the name / background. I slot you in as soon as I have this. The game hasn't started - well - it has started now in setting the scene / people should introduce themselves.

I willl announce when the official part starts.

Grand Lodge

All

I've just opened the discussion and game thread.

Please ask all character questions or other ooc in the discussion.

The game thread starts with a prelude. You can look at it as the settle down at the table and introduce your character.

I'm still waiting start once everyone has done at least one post there. But it should be a good opportunity to get into character.

Sorry...I'll next post will be my character....

Character should be good to go except equipment if you want to review.

"Hi there! Yes you! Don't be shy. My name is Priscilla purveyor of fine curios. Can I interest you in this fine hand embroidered handkerchief, or a master craftsman toy soldier, no, no, no... you look like the serious type, perhaps some information may be of value to you."

Will review - no worry - equipment can be changed until we hit port in Magnimar.

And if money is left - then you can buy there or in Riddleport some last bits of equipment.

Results of review will be tomorrow - getting late here.

And please start posting in the game thread.

Wow, these PFS games fill up quick.

No need to apologize, it was a general comment, but a future consideration would certainly be grand.

Dang, I missed out. Thod, Private Message me if you start something new. In the interim, here's my stuff:

1. PFS number: 1824-x
2. I'm currently DMing a PbP. It's my first foray.
3. I can play something new, or use my level 2 Barbarian, level 3 rogue, level 2 cleric. The others I'm saving for tabletop.
4. I'm looking to play some PbP to get some play time in. I DM one PbP, one tabletop campaign, and most of our home PFS. I need me some player time!

This game was fast and furious. The good news - the first game is nearly over.

But I will take at least 2-3 weeks break after this one.
