Male Elf (Current Health 25 / 28) Inquisitor of Pharasma 4 / Urban Ranger (Falconer) 1

"I shall remain silent, then. Unless tongues need be loosened by the Will of Pharasma."

Galadan scowls at Wren but says nothing further to her.

"I shall also investigate the crime scene, time permitting, and if necessary make inquiries of those whom are not swayed by diplomacy."

Female Elf FeatherMage 5

Wren has plenty to say to Galadan on the trip out.

"You see Galadan, I think these swampfolk have been dallying...blah blah blah....demons...blah blah blah...an old rusty pitchfork....blah blah blah...under the exact same tunic!! Blah blah....and so I...blah blah blah...'mother, it's my body...'...blah blah blah...onions! Like I said, onions!"

Female Human (Mixed race) Hedge Witch 5 (favoured class)

"Wren dear, I'm sure there is some perfectly logical and natural reason for the long lives of these people..after all it's not as if they are living as long as your people are they"

Andrea tries to pay attention to the scenery as they travel but her mind is too occupied with thoughts of the poor benighted creature in the cell back in in the city.

Grand Lodge

Andrea:

Indeed - there is a rather mundane explanation. The water drawn from the well is infused with minerals. Coupled with the diet of fish makes and their relative isolation has made the swampers pretty healthy.

But in a region like Ustalav where dark magic is common people rather like to believe less mundane reasons.

Grand Lodge

All

Morast is a pituful hamlet with maybe some 20 houses and just over 60 inhabitants.
When you arrive in Morast you quickly meet up with Lazne - the village elder. He doesn't seem very pleased meeting you.

Lazne is a grizzled, middle-aged man with dirty grey hair and the skin the color of swamp mud. He chews on a foul-smelling swamp weed.

Spitting onto the ground he adresses you:

"What's you want. No need for furriners Morast has."

He punctiates this by spitting more of the fould juice onto the ground.

"We had nough problms - time the noble cityfolk leaving us alone again."

Male 'Human' Summoner (Synthesist) 5

Despite the reception the party has been given, Aldous tries to be as hospitable and polite as possible, bowing formally.

"Greetings, Elder. My name is Aldous Preklikin. We are sorry to disturb you; we have no wish to interfere with your way of life. However, we are involved in the trial of the Beast, and have been charged with the task of collecting evidence relating to what happened here in Morast. Please, what can you tell us about what happened?"

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29.

Any assists would be welcome :-)

Grand Lodge

The Elder looks towards Aldous - he seems a lot more receptive. He then looks at the other members of the group - waiting.

Female Elf FeatherMage 5

Wren will begin rooting around for a similar weed to the one the man is chewing upon...more interested in that at the moment.

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12 Know (Nature)

Male Elf (Current Health 25 / 28) Inquisitor of Pharasma 4 / Urban Ranger (Falconer) 1

Galadan nods at Aldous' introduction, confirming.

"Aldous is correct. We have no desire to cause harm to or affect your community. I am a tender of the faith for Pharasma's church, and in accordance I strive to remain neutral."

Male Forlorn Elf Magus 4

Forcing himself to keep a ridgidly straight face while looking around at the squallor these people lives in Nym touches the brim of his hat and nods to the elder. "Greetings."

While Aldous and Galadan are speaking with the elder, Nym will casually walk to where Andrea is, and whisper to her..."Not that I wish to compare you to our friends here, but I believe you to be the member of our liitle band easiest for these people to relate to. Aldous is quite the diplomat, but he might need a mediator in this dealing."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10
Kevin looks taken back for a moment as he looks at the Elder before recovering a bit and flashing one of his best smiles. "I say, nothing could be farther from the truth my good man. We are here in the persuit of justice, and that alone. Justice for your village and kin."

Grand Lodge

"de justice must been done and burn it should.

With this words the Elder turns away from Aldous and towards Kevin.

"So you wanne hear what heppend. Started takn only lone villagers who been outside at night, but soonish bcame bolder and bgan to attack de houses. But not with us you can do. Me organized to set a trap for the Beast. Me remember that night well. The others of me town were lying in wait for the Beast, who attacked just after nightfall. Armed with torches, we attacked and wounded the creature—twas a huge, hulking brute about 7 feet tall. Da Beast took to the water, but the swampers gave chase in their boats, pursuing it to the village boneyard.  Ther it was attacked by a blood caiman.

Lazne grins and spits out when retelling this part.
"de Beast yelled oaths and curses that even the worst whore in Lepidstadt would blush to say as the gator attacked it. Got a deep bite wound the gator made on the Beast's shoulder as it dragged the Beast under the water. All the Beast's blood tainted the us' burial ground, forcing us to abandon it and build another. But twas a small price to pay for the thing's death. Then me hear that the Beast still alive and captured. Telling the authorities i did. Should burn the Beast for all the people it killed from us. Will go there to see it burn I will.  It probably ate them - the bodies. They nver been seen again."

"A blood camimen you say? I would think that would have been a great sight to see! Was that a new find or did you all know about the gator? Also, can you show me where the thing and the caimen fought? There may be some qlues there as to how he got away.

Male 'Human' Summoner (Synthesist) 5

Aldous nods attentively as the Elder speaks.

"It sounds like it was truly fiendish. I agree, we would greatly appreciate it if you could show us this 'old burial ground'."

That does not sound like Stitches, at all; what is going on here...?

Male Elf (Current Health 25 / 28) Inquisitor of Pharasma 4 / Urban Ranger (Falconer) 1

"I should also like to see, if it is possible, where those who were killed by the Beast were last seen."

Female Human (Mixed race) Hedge Witch 5 (favoured class)

Andrea frowns slightly..

"I saw no evidence of such a wound on the 'Beast's' body" she whispers to Galadan then looks to the Elder.."Are there any folk here in need of healing or suffering sickness..if so I am a healer and would gladly offer my help"

Male Elf (Current Health 25 / 28) Inquisitor of Pharasma 4 / Urban Ranger (Falconer) 1

Galadan nods to Andrea's observation. The thought had entered his mind as well.

"I mean, where they were last seen alive." He amends his original request.

Female Elf FeatherMage 5

Wren listens, but spends much of her time looking for the weed the man is chewing.

Thod, I have an outstanding nature check on the blood caimen. No rush, but it's there.

Grand Lodge

Wren:

The Blood Caiman seems to be the local version of a crocodile.

Grand Lodge

Andrea

"We in Morast don't get sick. And if really anything happens, then we have old mother Corl."

With this words he points to an old woman. But you can notice easily from the tone of his answer that he seems very pleased that you asked.

Grand Lodge

Lazne then turns to Kevin

"The Caimans can be vicious if you don't know how to fight them. We from Morast a skilled in taking them down. They have very tasty flesh. The Caiman got him when the Beast tried to get back to its lair on the boneyard. It's a small island.
Not a good time now to go there. Darkness is nearly here. but we could get you to the island safely in our boats - for a small fee."

Going Rate:

5gp for the whole group - this would be three boats - steered by villagers.

2 people in each boat plus one villager. It doesn't matter who is in which boat - unless you have priorities as the elder.

"Me can take the lady to ensure she is save."

With this words he points towards Andrea.

Grand Lodge

Wren:

I give you a 50% chance to gather some of the weed on your way to the island.

Just roll 1d100.

1-50 You got some weed
51-95 no luck
96-100 GM will think about something

Female Elf FeatherMage 5

Lol. "You got some weed," has completely different connotations here in the States.

Wren is looking forward to her trip to the island and will happily pay out 1 gp for the trip (she assumes that it is round trip).

At an appropriate time, she will try to score some weed on the island.

1d100 ⇒ 1

On the way out there, Wren will chitter with excitement/fear at the prospect of seeing a Blood Caiman. She wonders if it is as big and ugly as she thinks...it must be to beat up on Stitches.

Grand Lodge

Wren manages to gather some fresh, succulent piece of weed.

Do with it what you want - and yes - indeed the way I phrased it can be interpreted in different ways. But hey - you don't even know yet if the stuff has interesting side effects when chewed or smoked ;)

Female Human (Mixed race) Hedge Witch 5 (favoured class)

Andrea nods to the Woman the Elder indicates.."Oh off course I would never dream of intruding in the home territory off another without an invitation"

At his offer of transport she smiles.."That is most gracious off you Sir"

Male 'Human' Summoner (Synthesist) 5

Aldous nods gravely.

"We would appreciate whatever assistance you can give."

Male Elf (Current Health 25 / 28) Inquisitor of Pharasma 4 / Urban Ranger (Falconer) 1

Galadan remains silent and examines the locals from a distance regarding their moral backgrounds.

Sense Motive
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25

Male Forlorn Elf Magus 4

Nym will hand over 4 gold to pay for the rest of the voyagers.

Female Human (Mixed race) Hedge Witch 5 (favoured class)

As she settles into the boat Andrea casts her eye over the swamp and gives a small sigh "Why is it" she asks off no-one in particular "that adventure never happens in places that are pleasant to look upon"

Male Elf (Current Health 25 / 28) Inquisitor of Pharasma 4 / Urban Ranger (Falconer) 1

Galadan also steps into a boat, settling carefully after flipping a gold coin to Nym as his part of the payment

"The Kingdom of Kyonin is not that far away, if you desire a change of scenery."

Grand Lodge

You reach the small island without incident.

The Elder tells you to give signs to be picked up again.

Island investigation on your own

Male 'Human' Summoner (Synthesist) 5

How big is the island; would a take 20 be feasible?

Grand Lodge

Aldous Preklikin wrote:

On the Road all day - so description needs to wait. I would suggest to start with some perception (rolled) and we can always follow up with more detailed search aka take 20.

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14Looking for gator tracks, nest, etc..

"I think that maybe these people had been taken by the gator, the Stitches or something killed it, if so we should be able to find it's remains and posibly those of the villagers."

Male Elf (Current Health 25 / 28) Inquisitor of Pharasma 4 / Urban Ranger (Falconer) 1

Galadan nods.

"The villagers seemed reluctant to inform me where they had last seen the victims. So it could very well be that the gator ate these instead of Stitches killing them."

Perception
1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32

Survival (track)
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23

Female Elf FeatherMage 5

Wren will draw her bird net (butterfly net) and both look for island feathers (much like what Stitches seemed to have) and try to capture of the island birds (if possible...just going to get a few feathers, then release).

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 Perception
1d20 + 0 ⇒ (19) + 0 = 19 Survival (+x net bonus, if applicable)

Grand Lodge

A tiny, miserable island rises from the swamp, a tangle of trees covering its dour, reed-choked surface. Hundreds of fetishes hang from the trees—simple, roughly humanoid figures made of sticks and bound with twine. Larger fetishes are planted in the ground on various parts of the island, leaning drunkenly in the soft mud.

Direction of arrival: North, East, South, West 1d4 ⇒ 4

Other GM roll 1d100 ⇒ 13 low = M.

Galadan:

A large nest built of sodden swamp wood sits high in the boughs of a trio of tangled trees on the northwest side of the isle.
You don't find any gator tracks - but you spot some tracks that look more like a lion - only that it has to be a big one and they seem to suddenly disappear as if airborne.

There are also older tracks, humanoid and a burned down fire place in the Southern part of the island.

Wren:

you spot some humanoid tracks. No gator tracks. There also seem some graves that seem to be carved in.

Kevin:

There is a fire place on the Southen part of the island.

Grand Lodge

The island is approx. 65-80 feet across.

Male 'Human' Summoner (Synthesist) 5

Aldous eyes the island with no small amount of distaste, and awaits the results of the others' searches...

Female Elf FeatherMage 5

Wren points out the humanoid tracks and some graves while she continues hunting her primary prey: a handful of nice swamp bird feathers.

"Why are there graves on this island?" Wren asks, pointing at the caved in graves.

Male 'Human' Summoner (Synthesist) 5

Aldous arches an eyebrow.

"The village elder did say that they used this place as a burial ground, before the 'Beast' was 'killed' here..."

"I found a fire place on the south side of the island, maybe the ruins of a house. "

Male Elf (Current Health 25 / 28) Inquisitor of Pharasma 4 / Urban Ranger (Falconer) 1

Waiting for Andrea before I continue.

Female Human (Mixed race) Hedge Witch 5 (favoured class)

Andrea tugs her cloak closer around her and looks around the dismal island

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5..

She sees nothing of interest and listens as the others recount their observations.

Male Elf (Current Health 25 / 28) Inquisitor of Pharasma 4 / Urban Ranger (Falconer) 1

"No signs of a reptilian creature, but I found these lion pawprints. And I have to say, I find this a strange location for lion's prints. Also, they do not fall at a lion's pace."

Galadan points out the prints to the others.

"There is also a strange nest of wood and mud in the northeast. Perhaps one of us could climb up the tree and see if any clues are within. Birds have a tendency to pick up strange objects after all."

He looks pointedly at Wren.

Male Forlorn Elf Magus 4

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

"Lion prints? Strange, a summoned beast maybe?"
Sorry for being behind, had a number of larger projects come up in school all at the same time.

Grand Lodge

A large black shadow rises up from the nest.

Battle (initiative) and more details later. You can already prepare / speculate what it is.

Male 'Human' Summoner (Synthesist) 5

Thod:
Whatever it is, I would appreciate it if you could knock Aldous out; I would like him to go unconscious at least once more before he hits 4th level :-)

Male Elf (Current Health 25 / 28) Inquisitor of Pharasma 4 / Urban Ranger (Falconer) 1

Initiative
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

"Manticore!!" (given the region and CR level)

Judgment of Destruction

Galadan pulls out his light crossbow and swiftly loads it, releasing a bolt at the creature.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 for 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Crit Threat!
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 for 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
