"Fine. Don't help us. We'll come back when we're done. I hope we don't need you." Aviz tries to find a spot in the trees where he can find the ambushers.

Back on the cart, Marcaius is still busy crunching numbers combing his brain for bits of obscure lore; he continues to remain oblivious to what the others are up to.

Male Strix

"You wrong me! I may not agree with the actions you lot seem intent on, but I am a part of this flock and will stand with it, so let's get on with this folly.". Choraak moves forward with the others.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Paladin 1st

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
As Jaro gets closer to the carriage, he says "Beautiful carriage. It's clearly not for rough terrain. Have you and your men thought about retreating back down the road to find an alternate route?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 to influence the lady and her entourage to leave the area.

"I suppose we could turn back... but we are in such a hurry, this is an important matter that must be taken care of quickly." After a moment, she shakes her head. "No, I suppose this will delay us more than taking another road. Thank you very much, young man." She turns momentarily, talking to her guards. They begin speaking for a moment when...

DM Rolls:
Javelin 1: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 121d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Javelin 2: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 31d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Javelin 3: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 151d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Javelin 4: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 111d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Javelin 6: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 191d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Six javelins fly out of the woods! While inaccurate, two find their mark, striking one of the guards and sending him flying to the ground. The woman screams. In between the trees, it is obvious that large figures have thrown these, and as they step out from the shadows, you can tell by their protruding tusks and mottled skin that they are a pack of 6 vicious-looking orcs.

"Hope you stronger than the last humans!" they shout, before moving to attack.

So, initiative, I guess? None of you were surprised cause you knew about it, but the guard was, so there is a surprise round to act in (which the orcs threw their javelins in)

Orc Initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 20

Male Strix Fighter 1 | HP 13/13 | AC 17 | T 13 | FF 14 | CMD 17 (+2 vs trip/disarm/dirty trick/reposition/steal) | Fort +4 | Ref +4 | Will +1 | Init +4 | Perc +7

Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Aviz breaks stealth and flies down behind the orcs, standing fifteen feet away from them. He gives an auran battle cry to get their attention, waving his fauchard around.

Surprise round action: Move action to land 15 feet behind the orcs. Aviz has 3 AoOs per round, so if they approach Aviz will chop at them. Edited for inspire courage.

Possible AoOs:
AoO 1: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 1 = 23
Damage: 1d10 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 9 + 1 = 18

Crit Damage: 1d10 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 9 + 1 = 13

Male Strix

Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

"Sqwawk! To arms, to arms!"

Choraak will begin a song of battle. While the words of the song may be in a language that most of the party is unfamiliar, the rhythm of the song is unmistakable.

+1/+1 for attacks

Advice for the GM:
I recommend having a macro of the dice rolls for all of the PCs for Initiative, so you can just roll all of our initiative when combat starts. Maybe do the same thing for Perception?

Male Human (Chelaxian) Paladin 1st

Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

On his initiative, Jaro shouts, "Under The Carriage!!"
Assuming Jaro's Perception was successful, he see the one orc to his right
Jaro takes a knee, hoping the fallen tree will give him some cover, and aim his light crossbow at the orc to his right, by the tree.
Crossbow, light atack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
If it hits the orc takes Crossbow, light damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Male Mordant Spire Elf Mooncaller Druid 1 [HP:10/10] [AC:17 T:13 F:14] [ Fort +3, Ref +3, Will +5] [Init:+3, Percep:+9]

Surprise round action:

Dorian takes a shot at the one closest to him with his bow.

Shortbow: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 3 + 1 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Then looking at Mani,

Azlanti:
"Attack."

Wolf Animal Companion 1 [HP:4/16] [AC:14, T:12, F:12] [Fort:+5, Ref:+5, Will:+1] [Init:+2, Percep:+5]

Mani moves up to the orc Dorian attacked.

Male Gnoll Ranger (Trapper/Warden) 1 (HP: 14/14 | AC: 17 T:11 FF:16 | F: 5 R: 3 W: 2 | Init +1 Per +7)

Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Edit after checking Roll20.

Falstaff sneaks through the leaves of the downed tree, attempting to catch the ambushers off guard.

Male Middle-Aged Human (Azlanti) Cleric of Groetus 1 | HP 11/11 {effects: Fatigued} | AC 13 Tch 8 FF 13 {effects: Fatigued}| F +4, R -2, W +5 | Init -1 | Perc +3

Initiative: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4

"What? WHERE?!"

Snapping out of his reverie at the sound of the commotion, Marcaius grabs his flail and jumps off the cart, looking around frantically for attackers.

Assuming that I can see the two orcs on the lower left side of the map, I'm moving to defend the cart.

After the move, casting shield of faith as a standard action (+2 deflection bonus to AC for 1 minute; AC 16).

Round 1 Start

Good suggestion, Cho, I'll put those down for future reference. As for action resolve order for this one :
Flastaff - 19
Choraak - 18
Jaro - 12
Aviz - 10
Dorian - 7
Marcaius - 4
Not sure where Aviz is - you should move him when you post - but I moved him to a place behind one of the groups of two orcs. I have also used colors to identify the enemies (trying to get them to use numbers, but I'll see what I can do about that later), so that if there is a question about who you're going for, use the colors as your guide in text!

Dorian's arrow and Jaro's bolt strike the orc true, immediately causing him to keel over in pain (Orc Pink KO), If Mani would like to move somewhere else that's fine..

One orc charges at Dorian, shouting wildly in orc, drawing his Falchion.

Dorian:
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (4, 3) + 4 = 11

While another rushes Jaro!

Jaro:
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 1) + 4 = 6

Another pulls a second javelin from the strap on his back and chucks it at the annoying songbird.

Choraak:
Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

One pulls out his blade and charges Marcaius,

Marcaius:
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (3, 2) + 4 = 9

While the final one rushes blindly at Aviz, getting caught by the Strix's quick reflexes and immediately struck down by the man's sharp fauchard [ooc](Orc Blue 100% Dead as Hell)

Male Middle-Aged Human (Azlanti) Cleric of Groetus 1 | HP 11/11 {effects: Fatigued} | AC 13 Tch 8 FF 13 {effects: Fatigued}| F +4, R -2, W +5 | Init -1 | Perc +3

Marcaius howls in glee as the orc's attack grazes past his glamered armor.

"Filthy brigand! Tell your masters they'll not get me! It is foretold!"

Practically whirling with the counter-force of the blow, the priest swings the twin heads of his dire flail at his enemy.

Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Damage: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Edit: Natural 20 on attack, so an automatic hit; critical threat for a dire flail is 19-20. Crit is x2.

Crit confirmation: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Damage: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

If that 20 beats the orc's AC, the damage is 7 + 9 = 16 damage total. If not then it's just an automatic 7 damage.

Edit2: My mistake; Destructive Smite is a Supernatural ability, so that's a standard action, I can't use it and then attack in the same round. The hit's still good, though (finally fixed my math as well).

Taking a 5-foot-step north instead.

Male Strix Fighter 1 | HP 13/13 | AC 17 | T 13 | FF 14 | CMD 17 (+2 vs trip/disarm/dirty trick/reposition/steal) | Fort +4 | Ref +4 | Will +1 | Init +4 | Perc +7

Aviz sweeps his blade up from the fallen orc and rushes over to the one who threw a spear at his blood-brother, chopping down with avian fury.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 4 + 1 = 21
Damage: 1d10 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 9 + 1 = 19

Attacking red orc.

Male Mordant Spire Elf Mooncaller Druid 1 [HP:10/10] [AC:17 T:13 F:14] [ Fort +3, Ref +3, Will +5] [Init:+3, Percep:+9]

To keep things simple, I'll keep Mani's move as it was.

Dorian takes a step back and fires another arrow at the orc attacking him,

Shortbow: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 1 = 6

but fires wide of his mark.

Wolf Animal Companion 1 [HP:4/16] [AC:14, T:12, F:12] [Fort:+5, Ref:+5, Will:+1] [Init:+2, Percep:+5]

Mani moves in to take a bite at the orc attacking Dorian.

Bite: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 1 = 6

But in his haste, misses his mark.

Male Gnoll Ranger (Trapper/Warden) 1 (HP: 14/14 | AC: 17 T:11 FF:16 | F: 5 R: 3 W: 2 | Init +1 Per +7)

Falstaff continues sneaking around the tree, grinning savagely as he prepares to ambush one of the Orcs.

I can't wait to see the look on his ugly face!

As Falstaff rounds the mass of foliage, he frowns.

Aw, crap. He went through the leaves, didn't he?

Falstaff smacked himself on the top of his snout with a large black-furred paw.

Turning around, the intrepid Gnoll abandoned all pretense of stealth and rushed back to his companions, scythe drawn.

"Blighted pox-suckers!" He snarled fiercely at the closest Orc, brandishing his razor-sharp scythe.

Male Strix

Choraak moves and swings his whip at the green labeled bad guy (who appears to be still alive according to Roll20) to "aid another" for Marcauis to kick his butt!

Whip: 1d20 + 0 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 0 + 1 = 11

If the green guy isn't alive, I'll go and do the same for another bad guy that one of my allies is fighting.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Paladin 1st

Being caught off-guard by the orc's bold attack, Jaro begins to stand from his knelt position. As he does so, the paladin brings the butt of his light crossbow into the jaw of the orc.
Improved weapon, light crossow: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10
Jaro is not having a good day.

Round 2 Start

As Choraak whips the orc, throwing him off balance, Marcauis brings his flail down and crushes the head of the orc into nothing but a splatter of skull and dark blood. His body stands there, wavering comically for a moment before falling to the ground. (Green Orc Is DEAAAD)

Aviz's fauchard easily finds its mark, still covered in black blood from the previous slaying of the other orc, slicing through his new opponent like a hot knife through butter, leaving nothing but a gurgling corpse. (Red Orc is DEAD)

The orange orc engaging Jaro laughs at the paladin's attempts to strike him. "You think you can fight me? I am made strong by my blood!" The orc swings his blade back...

Jaro:
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (4, 3) + 4 = 11

The purple Orc guffaws as both the arrow and the wolf's bite fail to penetrate his rough-hewn armor. "Jugnog is stronger than long-ears, and his puny dog!" he shouts, bringing his falchion down towards Mani.

Mani:
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (4, 4) + 4 = 12

Male Human (Chelaxian) Paladin 1st

Jaro takes a 5-foot step back away from the orange orc, dropping his light crossbow, and drawing his longsword.
"You talk too much."

Wolf Animal Companion 1 [HP:4/16] [AC:14, T:12, F:12] [Fort:+5, Ref:+5, Will:+1] [Init:+2, Percep:+5]

Mani, howls in pain and retaliates.

Bite: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 2 + 1 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 1 = 6
Trip Attempt: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Male Mordant Spire Elf Mooncaller Druid 1 [HP:10/10] [AC:17 T:13 F:14] [ Fort +3, Ref +3, Will +5] [Init:+3, Percep:+9]

Dorian drops his bow, draws his quarterstaff, takes a 5' step and swings.

Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

But misses.

Male Strix Fighter 1 | HP 13/13 | AC 17 | T 13 | FF 14 | CMD 17 (+2 vs trip/disarm/dirty trick/reposition/steal) | Fort +4 | Ref +4 | Will +1 | Init +4 | Perc +7

Aviz sweeps his blade up from the second fallen orc and looks around, giving a quick whooping war cry before coming down on his next victim.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 1 = 6
Damage: 1d10 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 1 = 16

I can't access Roll20 on my phone. Since I rolled a nat 1 just put me closer to any one of the orcs.

Male Strix

Choraak maintains the bard song, moves. And casts CLW on himself.

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Male Middle-Aged Human (Azlanti) Cleric of Groetus 1 | HP 11/11 {effects: Fatigued} | AC 13 Tch 8 FF 13 {effects: Fatigued}| F +4, R -2, W +5 | Init -1 | Perc +3

Marcaius whips aside the flail, flicking off the excess gore. He grins and waves at Choraak, pleased with his work.

"Ha! I told him so!"

Looking around for more enemies, he spies the others advancing on the orc to the right of the cart and move to join in.

Moving 20 feet towards the orange orc.

Declaring a use of the Destructive Smite domain ability (6/day, 5 remaining after this) as a standard action (next single melee attack gets a morale bonus to damage equal to 1/2 cleric level [minimum 1]).

Start of Round 3

Mani bites the purple orc, but fails to bring him down. He roars in pain and despite the bite wound looking like it should bring him down, he continues to fight on, swinging wildly at the dog.

Mani:
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (2, 3) + 4 = 9

The orange orc laughs, saying "You think you can best me, little man?" almost appearing not to notice the threatening strix rolling up behind him. He takes another powerful swing at Jaro.

Jaro:
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (3, 4) + 4 = 11

Male Strix Fighter 1 | HP 13/13 | AC 17 | T 13 | FF 14 | CMD 17 (+2 vs trip/disarm/dirty trick/reposition/steal) | Fort +4 | Ref +4 | Will +1 | Init +4 | Perc +7

Aviz growls as his streak if broken. "Die, green-skin!"

Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 1 = 25
Damage: 1d10 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 9 + 1 = 20

Ouch. Max rolls on both.

Confirm: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 1 = 17
Crit Damage: 1d10 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 1 = 16

Wolf Animal Companion 1 [HP:4/16] [AC:14, T:12, F:12] [Fort:+5, Ref:+5, Will:+1] [Init:+2, Percep:+5]

Mani growls and bites at the orc again.

Bite: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 2 + 1 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 1 = 7
Trip: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17

Male Mordant Spire Elf Mooncaller Druid 1 [HP:10/10] [AC:17 T:13 F:14] [ Fort +3, Ref +3, Will +5] [Init:+3, Percep:+9]

If either orc is still alive, Dorian will swing his quarterstaff at the nearest one alive. Moving 20' to orange if necessary

Quarterstaff: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

If neither is alive, he'll pick up his shortbow and check Mani's wounds.

Male Strix

Choraak maintains the bard song, takes a 5' step so he flanks the orange Orc, and swings with his whip.

Whip: 1d20 + 0 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 0 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 13
Whip Damage: 1d3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 = 4 Nonlethal

Screaming something inarticulate, Marcaius whips his flail in a wide arc and charges at the orc flanked by Jaro and Choraak.

Charging (+2 to hit, -2 AC) the orange orc as a full-round action, and adding +1 to the damage due to Destructive Smite. Edit: also +1/+1 for Choraak's bard song.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Damage: 1d10 + 1 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 1 + 1 = 9

Current AC is AC 14 Tch 9 FF 14 for this round.

As the three combatants pile onto the orange orc, reducing him to a pile of quivering jelly, Mani's sharp teeth find their mark and the purple orc cries out in pain, falling to the ground and bleeding all over the place, leaving a bitter taste in the wolf's mouth.

Mani needs to make a fort save, DC 12.

Cries of shock come from behind the log, as the woman, having seen the short but brutal combat take place in front of her. "Oh, my, that looked awful!" She points at the unconscious Jaro, running around the log to survey the scene despite the hesitance of her remaining guard. "Is he all right?" She gives a start as she notices the two dark creatures (Only ONE of which has wings but both have an odd skin color so it might be a bit unsettling because evil things like drow also have dark skin so it's kind of racist, but you know how these things go) and the hyena-like humanoid, but attempts to conceal it.

These orcs' blood is significantly darker than it should be (almost black), and you notice a slight fizziness to it that is not natural.

We're not, umm, tracking XP, are we?

I guess it was never brought up? I've never really done the XP thing but considering the openness of this campaign, I figured I'd try it if people were fine with it, and it would allow for training quests/fights, etc. Plus I can give out xp bonuses for stuff, but I will try to keep it normalized. It'd be medium progression, is everyone cool with that?

That works, if you like.

Putting away his weapon, Marcaius sidles up to the partially-healed Jaro and takes a look at him.

He rubbed his whiskered chin in thought, looking the nearest dead orc over this way and that.

That was anticlimactic. I didn't even get to hit anyone. Oh well, perhaps it is better this way.

Falstaff shrugs, and scratches his cheek with a clawed digit.

Hum. Well, I guess I was a bit distracted... No, I was asleep. Huh, you guys ran two entire rounds of combat while I was sleeping. Well done.

Jaro awakes to see Marcaius and Choraak standing over him. He brings himself up to a sitting position, and looks down at his newly-healed wounds.
"Thank you. To you both."
Slowly bringing himself to a standing position, Jaro asks, "Is everyone else alright?"

Male Strix

"Physically? Yes, we are all ok, but As it turns out the blood of the orcs is actually just doing what would be expected when the substrates in the blood are exposed to steel and air, there is no actual sign here, and so he now owes me his tabard."
