DM Visser |
Welcome to the discussion thread! I'm sure things happen here, but I'm not sure what they are.
Couple of things - I will be running in block initiative (NPCs go then PCs go) with bosses or leaders having their own initiative. I think this will be quick and allow for faster combats in the situation that not everybody is available at one time - however, each person will still roll initiative and their actions will resolve in order.
As well, while I haven't done this before, looking around it seems like most people use google drawings in order to do tactical movement. So I'm going to do that, put your icons on there, and you can move yourselves, I think? Sounds good. And again, I haven't done a Pbp, so if you have suggestions I will gladly take them. Thanks a lot for joining me on this campaign, and I look forward to having a great time with all of you!

Hello!
I've seen both work just fine. The 2 campaigns I have PCs in use Google. The AP I'm running uses Roll20 for battle maps and Google for overland maps. Use whatever you are most comfortable with. We can always try something different at a later date.
Thanks for the invite. I'm excited.
I'll get Mani's profile up tonight after I get off work.
Marcaius |
Heya!
Google drive has also been problematic for my groups sometimes (can't log in, can't see the map), but I've seen it work before. You do what you're most comfortable with.
Aviz |
Thanks for picking me, I'm excited to get started!
The discussion thread is for talking about things out of character, player to player, like what we're doing now.
Either map tool sounds fine to me.
DM Visser |
Well, in that case, I went ahead and put together a roll20 game. It's just a placeholder right now, but combat should be starting soon.
As well, feel free to post introductions in roleplay - I'll wait to officially start until everybody is confirmed, but the introduction is just creepily hanging out anyway.
here is the roll20 game join link.

Use it just for the map abilities.
I agree with Choraak. And thank you for picking me to be a player.
Falstaff the Wanderer |
I've used both roll20 and Google. One of my friends is a computer whizz and likes to use GIMP and Dropbox for his maps, with players calling out their movement on the grid he adds.
I've tried to do that myself, but I lack the patience and training.
Choraak |
So help a brother out here, as a Strix, how the heck should I know that gnolls walking around town isn't totally normal right? Not that I know yet, just getting prepared.
Never seen one. I know there weird humanoids not lucky enough to have wings. Just one more in the pack, right? No pun intended, haha.
Falstaff the Wanderer |
This is what you might know about Gnolls.
However, I was adopted by a Half-Orc Inquisitor of Erastil, so I am much different from the racial stereotype. As I assume the two of you are.
Although, if you're not, then Marcaius better watch out.
DM Visser |
Probably a low Kn (Local) check should get you there if you have it, but you may have seen them before. Like the man said, they're usually brutally murdering everyone that isn't part-hyena, though they're usually found a lot further south so it is at least a strange sight to see one here. And speaking full sentences in common. But if you've never seen one before and aren't super aware of what they look like, it may just be some strange beast you've never seen before. Depends how hard benefit of the doubt has bitten you in the butt before.
As well, it seems like everyone's posted in the gameplay except for Ser Jaro. Once he posts (Ideally today), things will start to happen.
Choraak |
Also! I'm not sure who is who on roll20 for the most part, so for now I just made up the characters and put them to be controlled by all players. I'm sure no one will abuse that (it's just the icons, honestly)
Not to mention there may be times when one of us might need to move one of the others. Someone stuck on their phone and posting, might need someone to move them, and likewise, there are abilities out there which allow one PC to move another.
TheWaskally |
Jaro has entered the story.
As for me, I work usually get out of work after 2pm, Monday thru Thursday, sometimes Friday. And weekends are also good for me, postwise. I will do my best not to dominate posts.
Falstaff the Wanderer |
Hey guys, my internet is a bit spotty right now, so I just wanted to warn you that my posting might be erratic.
I've found roll20 to be a bit bandwidth-intensive lately, so I haven't had time to log in yet.
I also want to warn you that I may be out of contact from the 20th to the 24th or 25th, depending on where you guys are on the planet. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. If I do have internet access during that time, it will be through my phone.
Again, sorry for the inconvenience.
DM Visser |
That's all right - I'll take control of your character if I have to, but for the most part you can just sleep in the back of the cart or something. You've let me know several times, including before I actually picked you, so It's fine for now.
Also, these rolls are giving me a lot of hope for this campaign.
Marcaius |
For whatever reason Roll20 still has me listed as John B. even after I changed the name in my profile to Bob Evil. In any case, either one of those is me.
As for my usual schedule, I usually work midday to evening with no private internet, so I'm more likely to post early in the morning or late at night, CST. And I'll try to keep my character's crazy hobo schtick in the background so as not to run it into the ground.
Marcaius |
I don't mind it at all, but I would keep in mind that most of our characters don't know much about strix beyond "scary reclusive bird-men who don't like Chelaxians", so I'd expect some of the jokes to go over our heads. Choraak may have to really work at it to get a laugh, but time and familiarity should go a long way towards it.
Dorian Farahan |
Strix humor from the Bard not gonna make it in this group?
You might want to work on your set before going to an open mic nite, but I'm sure the elf will learn to appreciate your Strix humor. . . maybe.
Marcaius |
Yeah, I'm gonna second this. If it's too cumbersome to adjust the profile each round, even a current hp total in bold during combat posts would help.
Marcaius |
Thank you. Keep in mind that most of his pet theories extend from his paranoia; I actually have no idea if this encounter was planned or random.
Marcaius |
Just a heads up, I'm going to be traveling out of town tonight. I should have internet access upon my arrival, but if the unforeseen should happen I shouldn't be out of commission for more than a day. Use Marcaius as needed until then.
TheWaskally |
Work has just gotten super crazy. Working seven 10-hour days a week. Still committed to playing. My posts will not either be really early mornings or evening.
TheWaskally |
I hope that it's just an Internet problem or something. This group is pretty fun.
I agree. I liked where this was going.
