Thirst - A Ravenloft PbP

Game Master Celestial Healer

Set in the land of Ravenloft, a band of intrepid heroes searches for a way home, but their fate may be inextricably tied to a vain, power-hungry madman. Uses the Pathfinder ruleset.

Don't know if Res will be checking in while he's at GenCon, so I'll let Angalia break the ice. Acorn won't be running them anymore. He will be introducing his own character in a few days' time (which was always the intention behind him running those characters). I will be retiring Angalia, Eliva, and Anuqa from adventuring, but will run any of their social interactions.

I don't believe that's true. I've searched through every fort save in your posting history and I can't find a failure.

Silver Crusade

Also, I did add a section to the campaign info tab about past PCs.
As a refresher:

'Kani was eaten by spiders.

Belanos was impaled on a stake.

Erfan went insane during the encounter with Spindle and is in the sisters' hospital. (The creature actually drained his wisdom to 1, so I thought that would be an appropriate way to handle it.)

Tiffana may yet recover, but she was experiencing increasingly horrible visions and is also in the sisters' care.

Urdrin volunteered to watch over Erfan and Tiffana and defend the sisters' hospital.

I think that's everyone. While Nathaniel was being NPC'd for some of that, he was there, so would know about it.

Yeah, guess not. Thought I found one yesterday. Leandro was bitten but saved.

28/29HP , AC17

Whereas Tybalt did fail that save, but also had filth fever but is recovering from that stat drain too.

Silver Crusade

Male Celestial Cleric of Myself 10/Radiant Servant of Me 10

Tybalt made enough saves to recover from filth fever, I thought, that we a while ago. He's certainly better now in that regard.

28/29HP , AC17

Yeah, he's recovered - but still a couple of Str & Con down.

Silver Crusade

Male Celestial Cleric of Myself 10/Radiant Servant of Me 10

Filth fever causes ability damage, not ability drain. You would have recovered it by now, apart from the fact that Res or Eliva could remedy that with a single 2nd level spell (lesser restoration). Ability damage naturally heals 1 point per night of rest.

Male Human (Taldan) Paladin 6: Init +0, Perception +0; F+11, R+6, W+9; HP 64/64 {LoH 7/7, 3d6; smite, 2/2; divine armor 6/6 min}

Loot to speak for - any takers?

Divvy or sell:
+1 scale mail
Belt of giant strength +2
Boots of the mire
3 potions of cure light wounds
Pearl of power (2nd level)
+1 frost dagger
2 scrolls of false life

An antique gold serving set worth 800 gp (sell?)
A mundane gold amulet set with lapis lazuli worth 1400 gp (sell?)
5 onyx gems worth 100 gp apiece (suitable for animating the dead) (sell?)
A ruby worth 300 gp (sell?)
750 gp in coin

The Exchange

I remember Andrzej had the taste of fur in his throat - so no worries Tybalt on ratting me out. Not a clue who else but definitely my guy. Probably forgot himself after all the fun in the marsh.

...and fancy meeting Mothman in Ravenloft. Makes a chap happy to know you're in the game again. How the devil are you?

Hi FW. I've had my ups and downs over the past few years, but generally things are good with me right now. How are you going?

The Exchange

Yep, I hear you. Christmas was a major downer when my marriage fell apart but the year gradually got better and better. My children arrive for the summer holidays soon and I have accountancy exams looming too. So ups and downs too.

Hopefully you have the whole job thing sorted now?

FW

Liberty's Edge

Male Mothman Expert 5

Yeah, I was out of work for a bit, but found something eventually. Sorry to hear about the marriage not working, but glad things are looking better for you. Life throws some interesting things at us, doesn't it?

Liberty's Edge

Male Mothman Expert 5

CH, do you know if there is any way to shift Nathaniel back into the 'current characters' list? This pbp still doesn't show up in my Campaigns page, and I suspect it is because I am not listed as a current player / character. I think if you tick the right box under your Campaign Info tab it might do the trick.

Back from GenCon. Thanks for your patience while I was away.

Yes, With Angalia and Eliva's departure, Res is the only original character left. Welcome Back Mothman!

I'll try to catch up and post later today.

Hey Tordek, how was GenCon?

It was great. Got to see Patrick Curtain and Mike Welham in person. This is my third trip to GenCon. Each year I've done something different.

In 2011, we mostly demo'd board games at the Mayfair booth.
In 2013, we did a lot of pathfinder society.
This in 2016, we attended alot of seminars. While I picked up decent tips in each seminar, the quality of the presentation varied widely.

Next time, I think I'll try to balance all three.

I do love attending GenCon. There is great positive energy generated by being around so many folks with similar interests.

For leveling up, since the beginning the options have been: Roll (you can take a mulligan on a 1) or accept the average roll rounded up without being at the mercy of the dice. Max HP was only at 1st level.

Male Human Magus 6 AC21/T16/F15, Hits 50/50, Init +6, F+8, R+7(+9), W+6; Perception +0, Arcane Pool 6/6

Magus hits: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 = 4

Mulligan!!

Magus hits: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 2 + 1 = 10

There was a time, back in the day, when people even rolled dice for their statistics! Whodathunkit?

Female Humanish

I used to do that. 3d6 IN ORDER. Not 4d6 drop the lowest. No rerolling ones. 3d6.

Fine, let's see what my roll would be:

hp: 1d8 ⇒ 8

*headdesk*

STR: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 5) = 8
DEX: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 4) = 10
CON: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 2) = 8
INT: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 3) = 9
WIS: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 1) = 11
CHA: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 2) = 5

That's more like it. The most hated cleric ever.

Liberty's Edge

Ha! Nice hp, ability scores not so fantastic.

Liberty's Edge

Male Mothman Expert 5

I am playing in a campaign at the moment, set in the post-apocalyptic winter after Earthfall. We have a tribe of 100 people, all have their stats rolled with 3d6 in order (no rerolls), and then all the PCs, NPCs, cohorts etc. need to be selected from this pool of 100 stat rolls. You end up with a lot of odd results, characters with a great stat line and then one stat of 4 or something, or characters with hopeless ability scores across the board and then Charisma 16 or 17 (these have been dubbed the 'Village Beauties'. We also have plenty of Village Idiots ...)

Female Humanish

Holy cow! How many players/player characters are there?

Liberty's Edge

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Male Mothman Expert 5

It's a bit of a revolving pool of players. We lost one of our regulars this year, and other people kind of come and go, turning up for this session or that; this style of game allows them to pick up one of the tribe members and play for that session, and then disappear for several sessions (as they go back to their 'day job' in the tribe).

We have 4 pretty regular players, each of us have a few different characters - for example, one to go out exploring the region, searching for food, shelter and any dangers to the tribe; one to go delving into old ruins, looking for lost wealth or technology; one to go raiding the encampments of other tribes of survivors or kill monsters etc.

It's an odd campaign, but seems to be working well enough so far. Kind of Mad Max meets The Walking Dead meets Clan of the Cave Bear. In the dark.

Liberty's Edge

Male Mothman Expert 5

My friend Dave (who is GMing) actually made a 'trailer' for the campaign. I'm not sure if everyone can view this, but it's pretty cool if you can.

OK, off to the hospital this morning. I expect to be up and posting by Saturday, but could be kidding myself. In the meantime, go ahead and bot angsty Leandro as needed. He can hit stuff and diplomacy stuff.

Later!

Male Human Ranger (Skirmisher) 6; AC 21; touch 13; ff 18. HP: 59/59. Fort +6; Ref +8; Will +6

I decided to take a wolf animal companion for Nathaniel - I like the idea, but it is probably not the best class feature for urban adventuring. I am assuming at this point the wolf is either lurking outside town somewhere (assuming the ship captain would have agreed to ferry it over here and back) or else it is back in Mordentshire.

CH, are you happy to keep this loose until we decide on next steps for the group, or would you prefer I either lock in a location OR change the animal companion class feature to something else (there is another standard option which gives companions temporary partial access to your favoured enemy ability)?

How are you doing Treppa? I had major surgery a few months back, took weeks before I quite felt back to normal (mind you, that may have been the pain killers as much as anything else).

Eh. Healing well enough, but the incision got infected and just will not get better. No-chew diet, fevers on and off, can't ditch the painkillers until the infection breaks, sleeping all the time. Very annoying. Back to the doc tomorrow for yet another followup.

I just want to feel decent and alive again, you know? I seriously hate how painkillers knock me out.

But this too shall pass.

We can rough it for the time being. I agree that the toymaker's shop is not the best place for a wolf. You can decide later where it has been left, per the first paragraph of your post.

So the doc found a little pocket of infection that was walled off so I couldn't rinse it. He drained it, says everything else looks great and I should start feeling better immediately.

So yay!

Soon I will need something new to b+&~@ about.

Well that sounds more positive. Good news Treppa.

Hey all, my brother Marty (French Wolf will know him as Ash Walker from a previous pbp on these boards), long time role-player and gamer, has just published his first novel, a post-apocalyptic speculative fiction novel called Salvage.

Please visit his website www.martinrodoreda.com if you are interested in checking it out or ordering a copy.

I went back to when I remember us gaming together, met Ash in 2008 fighting gnolls! He is a great writer and I wish I had the money to read his stuff. Wish him well from me - he is living the dream if his blog is anything to go by.

Good campaign that Age of Darkness, Mothman?

What he does he does well, my brother.

I have run three variations of that Age of Darkness campaign (well, set in the same homebrew campaign setting), two in 2nd edition and one in 3.5/PF - never got around to finishing one. Never got around to actually mapping the campaign world either!
