The World's Largest Dungeon ... part one
Game Master
Mina Seewicket
A large party of mostly an Half-Orc family has been asked to conquer the vastness of a dungeon in order to become the leader of the clan. Players should be able to go from 1-20 level in this campaign based on the World's Largest Dungeon books.
How are you going to be handling the map? Do you have some sort of mapping program that reveals it as we go? Using excel based maps? I am just curious because if it is as large as the title suggests it may get a little confusing down there.
RIZZENMAGNUS/DEWN: I think we may need a bit more input from you to push the story along. I just don't want this potentially very cool game to die before it really even gets started.

I was just coming over here to post that. It's easy enough to talk amongst ourselves when we're all put in the same place and left to our own devices, but once there's something to interact with, we need to know what interacting with it does.
If something's come up and you're going to be busy for the rest of the week (or something like that), just let us know so we know when to expect you back. It happens to everyone often enough..
Yeah we may not be able to the world's largest dungeon, but we just barely got started, so it should be easy to modify. Hopefully he comes back. I had to abandon a game last year that I was DM'ing and felt awful.
Yeah, I've abandoned a game before... but thankfully I told everyone what was going on. In any case, I'll probably introduce Ghawns into other games, and I encourage everyone else to do the same. Ghawn forever!
If we want to play world's largest dungeon, I could probably find a copy and run it if our DM does not show. I would not be running two groups however.
Well, as much as it pains me to do so, I'm going to bow out. I love the idea of a whole adventuring family, and hope we can get some Ghawns together again, but I'm just not feeling it anymore. Sorry.
I have the WLD book, from when I ran it before. I'd love to take over and run it again, buy I'm already running two games IRL, and I just don't have the time to run another (let alone two!), even if it is at PbP speeds. If someone else wants to take over, I'll be happy to support them with advice and resources (I can probably supply everything you need to run the WLD) - just let me know.
I'll probably keep checking the threads for another week or so to see if DEWN comes back or someone else wants to pick up the mantle. If not, it'll be time for Tanlen to retire.
Well, except for Anna and Grandma, I think we know who is playing. I will not be running a character as well as running the campaign. That will leave the party short a rogue. Looking through the module it looks like there are plenty of traps and locked doors, it is a dungeon crawl for the most part, so you may want to rethink skills or your characters, or have someone run Glawng. Likewise there may be a few that want to change the teamwork feats. Now would be the time to do it before we begin. I think we will just start off with a real big party; family day in the dungeon. That does not mean you have to stick together or explore the same room at the same time. I am looking to post the first response tonight unless we here from our DM. It will be posted in the part 1 section where we last left off.
I am still around. I had been waiting for the return of our errant GM. So, we appear to be missing a Rogue or similar trapfinder? Assuming we have enough archaists and beakers, I'd be willing to retire Grandma (possibly as a recurring NPC?) and run a trapfinding Ghawn.
I was the other party's trapfinder/unlocker - I ought to be able to handle finding them, at least. I'll just be a bit iffy on disabling them, and I won't be able to disarm magical traps until 2nd or 3rd level when I take a rogue level. If someone else wants to join me, there's never anything wrong with having two people checking.
So here is the Ghawn Family so far
Dhrek 1/2 Orc Cave Druid
Zierka 1/2 Orc Inquisitor
Jangis 1/2 Orc Ranger
Groltsch 1/2 Orc Fighter
Tanlen 1/2 Elf Bard
Rulgha 1/2 Orc Oracle of Life
Grandma 1/2 Orc Oracle (Seer)
Still wating to hear from
Anna 1/2 Elf witch
Jamroar 1/2 Orc Wizard
I agreed to run the game and I plan on running just one large group. However, I expect they will split off and merge back together as the game flows. There is hardly enough room for 8 or more people in most rooms or hallways. I am sure there are also places that will allow all party members to be involved in an encounter at the same time. I have asked the players to review their characters before we start again to make sure there is a right mix for them. As you noted the trap finder and arcane caster (crafter) is missing. No real harm at this point because we have just begun. Or we can go with what we have and multi-class as the company needs.
A large group does take a little more coordination of all of the players since they cannot, like the room we have now, all investigate, talk and question the 4 orcs sitting in a corner.
I'm willing to retool a bit to improve my trap skills if no one else wants to take over the primary responsibility for that from me. My perception's already +11, and I can get my disable up to +5 without without too many compromises (or I could also balance them at +8 and +8). That ought to be sufficient for most things at our level. If someone else wants to do it, though, then I certainly wouldn't mind playing spotter without the disabling.
Looking at the roster, we have an abundance of classes who can heal so I am willing to relegate the ornery Grandma to an NPC position and introduce another Ghawn whose focus will be the disabling of traps. However, I notice that we seem to be a bit light on frontline fighters as well.
I'm thinking trapsmith Rogue but with some sort of trip weapon to aid in combat.
I'm not changing Jangis. I think he's useful to the party as is, but if Glawng is going to be our GM, perhaps I should trade out Stealth Synergy for something else.
If characters are going to be level dipping in other classes, it should be organised a bit.
An example would be character A, to be both melee and trap finder, they take Ranger and rogue, reasons, ranger is a Skilled Melee class and the rogue would be giving a boost damage and more skills.
And if we know who is muli-classing into what, the teamwork feats could be organised in a way that benefits their current group. i.e.
Character A (from above) takes Stealth Synergy and another character also has it. They could scout a room and Character A disables some traps while Character B is on lookout or aiding the character.

If Grandma's going pure rogue, than I'm probably not going to dip, or at least not early on.
I am planning on a two level dip into ranger(wild stalker) for some HP, Fort and Ref saves, a boat load more skill points, some more class skills (perception, stealth to name a few) and Uncanny Dodge.
