Male Human Professor of Archaeology; Director of the Sphinxonium

Professor Archibald's eyes slowly blink open.

W-w-where am I? Why am I inside of the museum's tank exhibit? Awful nightmare...absolutely awful. Really need to lay off the brandy before bed...

Archy suddenly realizes he's surrounded by the superheroes from the other night.

YOU! What are you doing here? Oh...no...no! It wasn't a nightmare then?! Where is that Sinh fellow? I hope you dealt with him severely, MOST severely in fact! Why he called me an old fart! I am only just past my golden years I'll have you know, still have some adventure in these bones.

Archy wipes some sweat off his brow and sits down in the back of the tank his eyes taking in each crack, crease, and bulkhead of the vehicle. He eyes the strangely garbed Timeline. A WWII M26 Pershing, eh? Well you picked a fine vehicle I must say although it's truly a shame this cannot be displayed in a proper museum. Excellent taste.

Come on Joe, lets go find the kiddies.

We head off in the direction Timeline indicates and walk (er fly) until we find Xavier and/or Petra.

Elder Human Mage 20/ Planeswalker 10/ Engineer 10

DM Only:

Does Xavier survive the process?: 1d100 + 15 ⇒ (94) + 15 = 109 Xavier needs to roll a total of a 95 or higher to live through the surgery. Timeline's care and expertise have increased his odds of survival by 15%.

Well holy crap. Looks like they beat the odds.

Wildfire and Joe follow Timeline's precise directions to get back down into the bowels of the floating castle's dungeon.

Gold coins and gems have spilled everywhere across the floor. Resting upon the largest heap of treasure is Xavier's still form, the futuristic brace he is attached to beeping irratically. Petra looks up as you two enter the room, tears in her eyes, Така студено. Защо той е толкова студено? Помогнете му ...

Joe:
So cold. Why is he so cold? Help him...

Xavier seems to have wasted away to nearly nothing in the short amount of time he has been disconnected from the Root. His skin is pallid and his breathing shallow. As you watch, the brace's health indicators one-by-one turn red and then disappear as Xavier continues to lose the battle against his debilitating condition.

I will give you guys a chance to say something before I reveal the ultimate result of your efforts to save Petra's brother. His odds of survival even with the amazing treatment and medical tools Timeline acquired are only 20%

Hey Professor Archibald, sorry for the rough awakening. We're working on a way to get you out of here safely, and seem to have taken care of Sinh. If you could please just hold tight, that would be for the best. While you're at it, you might want to run an appraisal on that tank there; give you something to do, ya know?

To Timeline, while walking to find the controls;
Hey buddy, I'm not too sure about this fortress... It's listing pretty bad from when Wildfire took out the engine, and I think something happened to the density of the floor here. Have you seen it? It's nigh indestructible now! Let's find those controls. Also, how'd your surgery go?

Timeline pauses in mid sentence as his pipboy sensors start freaking out the look on his face grows worried as he looks at the screen and sees the health indicators he linked to the life support suit going down fast.
No the kid, somethings wrong! Keep looking for the controls fate let me know when you find them I got to go to the boy!
Timeline teleports to the kid. He begins checking the sensors on the suit.
No how can this be I did everything I could possibly do....It wasn't enough.
Timeline grabs the kids hand looking into the boys eyes.
You deserved better. You deserved a full long life and it was ripped away from you. Im sorry!
Timeline gets up walks over to the nearest wall punching it in frustration.
If I cant even save this boy what hope do I have to save the future? You are no hero you just a man with super powers!

Petra said, "So cold. Why is he so cold? Help him...", maybe you could warm him. i want to try something with timeline.
Hopefully we know each other that timeline told me a little about his adventure before meeting up in the museum.
Timeline, i have a really stupid idea. can you teleport away from here? I have some weird regeneration abilities, and some immortality to boot. If you could travel and find that kid in your community college that could ransfer abilities temporarily, we might give this kid my regeneration to fight off his disease, or my immortality to just come back. it is a long shot as i don't know the full scope of this rogue's abilities. see what i did there this might work.

Elder Human Mage 20/ Planeswalker 10/ Engineer 10

I see what you did there.

The teleportation trap that prevented Timeline from leaving the first time was reset by "Sinh". It is still active as far as any of you know. Robert's ability absorbing powers is a great idea...except for the part where he was hospitalized by a failed temporal shift. It's also unknown whether or not Robert would be able to transfer abilities from Joe, into himself, and then again into Xavier.

Elder Human Mage 20/ Planeswalker 10/ Engineer 10

Enough dramatic tension! On with the story!

As Wildfire holds on to Xavier in a perhaps futile effort to keep him warm, all but the final health indicator go dark. The room is silent except for Xavier's labored breathing.

Xavier croaks out one word, Сестра?

Petra grabs his hand. Аз съм тук.

Xavier: Ти си...не...чудовище.

Joe:

Xavier croaks out one word, Sister?

Petra grabs his hand. I am here.

Xavier: You're...no...monster.

Petra looks around the room at the people that tried so hard to save her brother, perhaps now realizing that she was wrong. Those with powers like hers are NOT all evil.

The final health indicator flickers and...steadies. Xavier begins a fierce coughing fit, dislodging the final bit of Yggdrasil from his throat. His breathing becomes easier and color slowly returns to his face. The medical brace thrums a positive tune as it massages life back into the tragic form of Petra's brother.

Timeline checks the readings and is elated to discover all trace of the rare condition Xavier suffered from has been erased! He will be tied to the medical brace for the rest of his life as several of his internal organs were heavily damaged during the surgery. The brace is not too ungainly though and given time he should regain complete mobility.

It worked! Kid you sure scared us all there.
Timeline looks at the rest of the group.
He going to be fine now, this little guy is a fighter.
Timeline looks over to Petra and gives her an understanding nod in her direction.
Ok Joe tell her he will be fine but will have to be in that device for the rest of his life.I got to go back and help land this puppy.
Timeline teleports to the controls of the castle and gives it a look over.

Plasma core rupture = DC 35 damage
DC 25 to Dodge

Sinh's Fortress is listing terribly to one side. As Risen Fate stumbles past the crashed Hover-Ship a sickening laugh meets his ears.

"Lord Sinh" has lost his magical disguise revealing a middle age man with artificer's goggles. A sharpened metal beam protrudes from his chest pinning him to the rubble beneath him. He has lost a lot of blood.

You think you've...*wheeze*...won? Lord Sinh...will unlock the Iris...and this world...*wheeze*...will end. For us...this is only...a setback...but for you...

He reveals an override switch he had been concealing until that moment.

The Immortal Alchemist gets the last...laugh...after all, eh?

The man calling himself the Immortal Alchemist pulls the switch and the Hover-Ship's plasma core ruptures engulfing the Alchemist, Risen Fate and one of the remaining engines of the citadel in raging white fire.

Risen Fate, I need a Dodge Check and Toughness Check from you. Include any Bruises or other penalties accrued in your fight against Man-Drake on that Toughness Check.

***

Meanwhile, below the surface, the heroes feel the flying citadel shudder as the initial explosion from the Alchemist's bomb sets off a plasma cascade in the second engine. The citadel is now only running on a single engine and begins to plummet earthward!

Petra acknowledges Joe's remarks and instinctively shields Xavier from the falling plaster and concrete chunks. Трябва да се махаме оттук, Следвайте ме!

Joe:
We have to get out of here, follow me!

Petra puts Xavier into a fireman's carry and begins flying down one of the corridors. She seems to know where she's going.

***

Timeline finds himself inside a cramped control room somewhere inside the damaged "museum" at ground level. Your initial assessment of the controls leads you to believe you can create a semi-controlled descent into the Visskonian grasslands despite the one damaged engine.

*KA-BOOM*

Scratch that, Only one engine and it's facing the wrong way. The citadel lists to starboard heavily. Horrified, you realize this puts Petra's sprawling hometown directly in the way of the crashing citadel. You have to either gain more altitude to pass over the town or find a way to push the citadel off course. You attempt a quick "hop" using your powers but discover that the citadel weighs more than 400 tons (remember the dense, nigh-invincible floor Risen Fate accidentally created?)

Timeline gets a crazy look in his eyes.
I got it!
Timeline teleports to the large pile of gold and summons a bulldozer and begins pushing the gold towards the opening in the castle he saw before.
I cant believe im doing this oh well money isnt what is really important.
Timeline gets to the edge with the dozer and stops a moment to give one last glance at the treasure horde before pushing the treasure off the edge.
Merry Christmas to all and all a good night!
To the group: Listen up gang the engines are shot and i have an idea, this is what i need from you guys Joe start throwing anything heavy from this ship, wildfire and fate see if you can fly out and slow this thing down in the mean time im going to port this castle even if it kills me! We just need to lighten the load and if you guys can buy me some time this is going to take a lot of power to pull off. Theres a town in the line of this castle full of inocent people who will die and I...We wont let that happen. Lets move!
As the gold tumbles down to the ground below Timeline desoummons the bulldozer and touches the wall with both hands lets try this again.
Timeline eyes begin glowing with white hot temporal energy as he focuses all of his energy on moving this castle. Using extra effort combined with a heropoint to teleport the castle even if he dies in the process.

I hear you good buddy, lighten the load. got it
i follow Timelines directions and move towards the edge of the flying castle. i begin to move any lighter objects around. with my strength i can throw a 3200 lb object 6 feet, so anything of that weight or lower i take to the edge and heave off. after that i"ll try breaking up objects by punching walls and seeing if they shatter from a multi-attack power-attack combo.
Also i can spend a hero point to temporarily increase my strength by 1, how long would that last? because if it is for this scene, i'd like to spend the one we just got by doing so.

DM Only:

Dramatic Question: Can the PC's avoid crashing the fortress into the Visskonian town?

Sources of Conflict:
1) The fortress "wants" to fly straight into the city.
2) The damaged engine "wants" to shut down.

Timeline, a tear in his eye, collects the vast quantity of treasure recovered from the Nine Hells and throws it overboard showering the southern Visskonian swamp with doubloons, gems, and all manner of gilded cutlery. The castle does feel to be lighter but not by enough. Timeline strains his power but cannot seem to budge the enormous citadel. You instinctively know that you will need to lessen the load by about ten times what you just threw out the hatch.

Petra, Xavier, Joe, and Wild Fire come to the courtyard of the citadel which is now tilting at an alarming angle. The single working engine can be heard straining for all it's worth against the earth's gravitational pull. You aren't sure how much longer it will last.

Timeline, you realize that the engine is the only thing keeping the citadel from immediately plummeting and breaking up in the atmosphere. Not only would this be bad for you, the shattered fragments would rain down upon the Visskonian city in a much wider swathe of devastation than just hitting it with the citadel would do. You've got to keep the engine running! The power lines are damaged and will need repairing. The Engine itself is rapidly depleting it's source of energy and will need an infusion of power of some sort.

Joe, you immediately begin gathering the largest chunks of rubble you can find and begin chucking them off the side of the citadel. You make some progress but quickly run out of available rubble. There are buildings/walls nearby that you could attempt to topple to reduce the overall weight. This would be either a Strength check or a Power check (roll d20 and add your power ranks).

You also notice the door to the ghoul pit is open and a number of the terrifying creatures have already slid off the citadel to their doom. The rest are cowering inside their cage. This gives you an interesting idea. if you were willing to wade into their midst and take a few hits, you could probably tear the entire cage out of it's anchors and let it slide off the side, greatly reducing the load and dispensing with the foul creatures at the same time.

Risen Fate, I still need your checks from the explosion.

The ghouls mostly ignore Joe until he gets to the first steel anchor. Joe focuses his energy and cleanly cuts through it with a judo chop. The cage shifts and a dozen or more ghouls turn towards him. The three closest ghouls leap at him in an attempt to save their pitiful excuse for a life.

Timeline ports into one of the downstairs rooms and finds the electrical systems to be severed in several places from fallen debris. Working quickly, he gathers as much spare wiring as he can find and begins to splice them together. With his nearly encyclopedic knowledge of Old Earth's technology he is able to give the remaining engine access to the reserve power supplies that the other engines no longer need. The engine's whine becomes distinctly less troubled and a small shudder is felt as the descent has been slowed marginally. You have bought yourself a little time.

Timeline, you are able to determine that there are a set of tertiary exhaust ports situated at cardinal points along the outer rim of the citadel. It should be theoretically possible to route a large portion of the engine's output through these ports to gain more lift and even out your descent. The exhaust ports will melt and seal up after a minute or two but that's all you really need anyways. There is only one problem. When you killed the Seed of Yggdrasil, parts of the bio-technological plant that were connected to the citadel's systems withered away leaving gaps in the electrical connections.

You can either attempt to find something to bridge the gap between the two ports (Difficult Perception Check), attempt to bridge the gap yourself using your powers of time manipulation to create a temporal image of the bio root (Hero Point and make a Medium Toughness Check), or abandon the idea and continue to remove extraneous weight from the citadel.

Bizz notices the stern look of disapproval on Wild Fire's face and rolls his eyes in defeat.

Ok well you can fly right? I don't suppose you've got super strength too and can lift this place? No? well the engine is basically just shooting fire in one direction to push the citadel in the other direction. (plasma's kind of like fire right?) Risen Fate's BBE has been registered. Hero Point awarded to RF for the complication.

The citadel's engines tremble under the terrible load. Fire screams past our heroes as it enters the lower atmosphere only seconds from impact.

BBE. Hero Point awarded to Wild Fire for triggering one of her complications. Wild Fire's paralyzed leg grows worse as she is unable to move the lower half of her body. (Penalty increased to -3)

Seeing the impending destruction she wills herself forward trusting her powers of flight to get her were she needs to go. Timeline directs her towards the reactor chamber of the final engine. Alternate power sources can be placed inside to fuel the engine in times of emergency. She places her hands on the energy manifolds and wills the flames to come. Her suppressed frustration and rage at their mistreatment at the hands of the Alchemist, her paralyzed lower body, and the hundreds of people about to die bursts forth in a pillar of pure flame.

Power Check: 1d20 + 10 - 3 ⇒ (1) + 10 - 3 = 8

She opens her eyes only to see no flames, not even a spark. Panic threatens to overwhelm her. She desperately clings to her rage, to those moments of pain she experienced so long ago...when the house burned...

HP Re-Roll: 1d20 + 10 - 3 ⇒ (6) + 10 - 3 = 13 +10 = 23! Success!

The spark inside her head ignites once again fueling her supernatural abilities. Fire pours forth from her in an all-consuming flame. The engine manifolds greedily absorb as much as they can but still the flame is too much. The floor cracks under the heat, the walls melt and peel and still the fire burns. .

Wild Fire snaps out of her haze only when a terrific jolt throws her bodily against the far wall.

***Elsewhere***

Timeline brings the ghost of tendrils past into brief existence long enough to route additional power from the temporary reserves. just as you think the power won't be enough, a huge surge comes through from the reactor chamber. The rerouted energy is enough to begin gaining a bit of altitude. The proximity sensors blare as you neatly skim over top of Bundaru...and straight towards the Visskonian mountain range. You cut the rear thrust and hold on for dear life as you steer the massive citadel towards a relatively flat section of mountain...

***Aboveground***

Joe manages to climb away from the leading edge of the citadel as it shifts just in time to avoid crashing into the city. Adobe buildings rush past at dizzying speeds as the citadel's contrail flattens a few of the weaker structures. Dust, straw, and livestock bombard Joe in a choking cloud. Once past the city it abates and Joe finds himself in the possession of a very confused chicken. Both Joe and the chicken's jaws drop as they see the mountain range come into view...all too quickly. They cling to each other for dear life (and Joe subconsciously merges his stony form with the surface of the citadel) as they come in for a landing...

DM's interpretation of this scene.

***CRASH***

The citadel hits, rebounds, and hits again. It shears the tops off of several peaks before coming to rest on the far side of the mountain range. It settles in a natural ravine on the lower slope of Mt. Wanaminkey. Our heroes are battered and bruised but otherwise uninjured. The citadel superstructure has been turned to so much artificial mulch with adjacent sections of the citadel scattered as far as 100 meters away. Whatever defenses, magical or otherwise, that were in place have been destroyed by the citadel's dissolution. And yes, the chicken also survived.

Timeline comes stumbling from the wreckage with the steering wheel in one hand a random lever in the other and looks around at all the rubble and wreckage.
Well you know what they say any one you can walk away from! Everybody count off make sure we didn't lose anyone.

Male Human Professor of Archaeology; Director of the Sphinxonium

A thumping noise can be heard from the battered remains of Timeline's WWII era tank. Moments later, Professor Archibald crawls out of the open hatch of the tank.

*cough*cough* I'm still here.

His brief stay in the cryo-chamber not withstanding Archibald looks much healthier than then when last you had seen him. He takes a moment to get his bearings.

Why I say, we're in Visskonia! How in the devil did I get here? Well I suppose we crashed here. Oh dear the authorities aren't likely to be pleased with us. Not at all. Uhm, you there! Yes you in the blue and yellow! Time Rhyme was it? Never mind that we need to vacate these premises before the Visskonian military arrives. They are a rather unkind lot altogether and without a passport they're likely to shoot first and ask questions later.

Archibald dabs at his sweaty brow with his dirt-covered handkerchief. He casts a pained look at the once pristine WWII era tank.

I don't suppose you have another vehicle for transport? Perhaps one that wouldn't be a tragic loss to mankind if it was to be shot up?

Its Timeline.... Good to see you still with us Archy Madelyn will be glad to see you mostly unscathed. Also don't worry about the transport I am the transport.
Timeline walks over to Archy and teleports them both to the good Rabbi to start. starting with Joe bassically just making the rounds picking everyone up.

You do not manage to teleport to Risen Fate :(
I will be working on a way to re-enter the campaign at the earliest opportunity though, so fear not, I'm still playing!

Elder Human Mage 20/ Planeswalker 10/ Engineer 10

Timeline is able to group all of his friends together except for one. Timeline's ability to teleport to Risen Fate's location has no effect. The last time any of you knew where he was, you had left him alone with the Alchemist just before the villain blew himself, and one of the engines, up.

A grim look comes to your faces as you survey the several square miles of wrecked citadel strewn across the mountainside.

Timeline has a disturbed look on his face as he realizes he cant teleport to Fate.
I hate to say it but if I cant teleport to fate thats not a good sign. Archy has a point we need to get out of here before the local military gets here! We can come back to search after we get Archy back to saftey, maybe E.O.N. can help.

Sir, I have been unable to triangulate the last known position of Mr. Fate, due to the blackout of satellite feed over Visskonian airspace. Just communicating with you required me to be...ahem...clever with the Army's new spy satellite.

In the distance you can see a small dot of fire making it's way towards you. You relax as it gets closer. It's only Petra. She and Xavier land next to you in a gust of superheated winds.

She turns to Joe.

Joe:

Thank you my friends for saving my brother. He means more to me than you can ever know. If there is anything I can do to repay you let me know. For now though I say farewell. Lord Sinh's reach is long and the military of this country under his control. It would likely be best if I disappeared for a time.

I honestly don't know where I should go...

Petra stares worriedly at the mountain pass from where she knows the military will be approaching as you speak.

I assume at this point Joe is activly translating if not i will use my pip boy translator
Timeline looks to Petra and Xavier
You could always come with us to our Headquaters there's plenty of room there for you two and we can keep an eye on Xavier's life support unit. You can make a new start in the states, What do you say?
If she says yes we will take them with us back to HQ if not I will teleport them anywhere they want to go other than this dangerous place.
Timeline in a rushing manor attempts to get everyone together to port out of here before the military arrives.
We got to go everybody group up Before the locals show up.Im sure they are going to want to know who crashed the giant castle into there homeland and im without my insurance information at the moment, i wonder does my insurance cover a giant flying castle crash?.... Anyways we should go now!

dm:
it's possible for you to come back with us to the U.S. Timeline can get you there and i have some friends in the government that should be able to help you get a green card, especially as a refugee of state such as this. We should be leaving soon, so you don't have too much time to make a decision but let us know.

Hey Timeline, Petra says the army will likely be here quick, we should probably at least get out of this country and then get back to Home. Can you take the three of us, Archie, this chicken, and Petra and Xavier?

Timeline pauses a moment cocks his head to the side at the question joe asks.
Chicken.......? Why..? what..? How...? Nevermind yes I can take us all that are willing including said chicken. But we need to be moving Now!

Elder Human Mage 20/ Planeswalker 10/ Engineer 10

Joe relays to Petra Timeline's offer.

She looks at her brother (still sleeping off his injuries) and hesitantly nods.

I...will...come...you.

The group gathers around Timeline in preparation just as an attack helicopter flies into view. Curiously it's rotors create no noise as they move. It appears built for silent running. The black mustachioed sergeant leaning out the side was far from silent.

HALT! Вие сте извършили по Visskonian почвата! Отказва се от всички оръжия, които имате и ние просто не може да ви убие!

Joe:

HALT! You have trespassed on Visskonian soil! Drop any weapons you may have and we might not kill you!

Anything else the sergeant had to say is cut off as Timeline focuses on your distant base and bends the spatial relations binding you to your current location. You disappear into sand-like motes as the familiar confines of your secret base materialize around you.

Each of you is hit by a wave of disorientation that passes quickly. Timeline staggers a bit as the strain on his powers takes a toll.

A quick glance at the time reveals it's about 10 PM.

Timeline:
Your abilities to instantly tell time re-emerge. It is currently 9:53:45 on October 5th. You guys have been gone three days! Time must flow faster in that particular Hell plane.

You guys are back home! Maximum City is only a few miles away (your base is a secret decommissioned military base in the side of a canyon created by the World Wake) and either the new helicopter can get you back there or you can fly/have Timeline teleport. You guys have the run of the town I simply ask that if you guys want to leave the city please group up first. This way if your random meanderings start a real encounter your backup is nearby.

Timeline Teleports Wildfire to the med bay.
E.O.N. I need a couple tin men to work on Wildfire in the med bay. Also keep searching for Fate hes got to be out there somewhere.
At least I hope hes out there somewhere.
Timeline after dropping off Wildfire ports back to the group.
Joe you should show Petra and Xavier where they will be staying I got some work to do around here.
Timeline heads to the workshop to work on the teleporter after stoping by and checking on his precious Flux first.
There you are girl I missed you.
Timeline wipes down Flux with a rag making it shine.
Looking good!
Timeline finishes up heading towards the workshop to work on the Teleporter.

I am endeavoring to locate Mr. Fate as we speak, sir. I'm afraid there are no accessible satellites in that area with the proper bio-scanning equipment. I am however attempting to locate his communicator by the electromagnetic interference it creates. I fear that if it is damaged it will take longer to pinpoint as it's signal will be weaker.

E.O.N.'s voice trails off in an oddly human manner indicating that if the communicator was completely destroyed...there would be no signal to find.

***Meanwhile in the Med-Bay***

Wild Fire's paralysis is just getting bad enough that it's getting a little hard to breathe as Timeline drops her off unceremoniously inside the base's med bay before porting to the command center.

E.O.N.'s voice comes over the intercom. Please state your species or designation and the type of medical emergency.

Wild Fire manages to get out Wild Fire and Paralysis before keeling over onto the examination table.

The soft white decor spins as two robots approach, their multiple arms loaded with a variety of medical utensils. One syringe arm darts in, painlessly injecting a mild sedative. The two bots work perfectly in unison analyzing and isolating the strain of poison debilitating Wild Fire's system. Within minutes they have drained the poison from her and cleaned her wounds.

Completely recovered! Your paralysis complication has been removed. Your Bruises are also gone.

That feels so good. Thank you

I get up and leave the med bay.

Is the med bay back in our base-thingy?
