Timeline seeing the portal open and feeling the suction of the portal on him and the tank decides to teleport out of the cave out onto the street.
teleport power check: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
tank toughness: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
Everybody out now! You don't want to get sucked into that portal I have a bad feeling that if you get sucked in not even I could get to you!

i am okay with that, so now for the toughness save

I've got you, sir! Hold on!

Risen Fate wheels around to tackle the professor mid-air for the best chance of grabbing him.
Dodge: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29

I'm going to keep a tight hold on him and get us to the ground so I can secure him to, or in, something until I can figure out where he's gotten these new found powers of flight from.

Hold on sir, I've got this under control now. Please calm down and if you could explain everything to me from when you were sent to the hospital until now, I would like to know why you're flying across the city in a hospital gown. That doesn't seem like the most, er, appropriate attire to be flying in.

Flight Power: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 6 - 2 = 16 ...to drag him back away from the portal, and towards the ground.

Male Human Professor of Archaeology; Director of the Sphinxonium

Risen Fate is able to intercept Archy before he speeds past. Strange roots are growing out of the palms of his hands and down his arm. Once in contact with him, you realize they appear to be pulling him along...and their speed is rapidly increasing.

I'm not the one flying, you incomeptent buffoon! I don't have super-powers! Stupid dreams, obviously the result of that day old mustard I put on my liverwurst sandwich at lunch.

He closes his eyes willing the nightmare to stop. His speed continues to increase, dragging Risen Fate along. He peeks one eye open.

AHHHHH! Make it STOOOOPPPPPPP!

Hospital must have given him some pretty serious heart medication. Archy appears frightened but not in any immediate danger of another heart attack.

Risen Fate:
Wistwood! It's drawing him into another realm. A portal must have opened nearby...

Elder Human Mage 20/ Planeswalker 10/ Engineer 10

Wild Fire sees the danger but is too late...her speed isn't great enough to break free from the portal's grasp. Her side throbs from the wound that the creature left and she notices a thin trickle of her blood and monster venom streak backwards towards the Dark Portal. She is drawn into it's endless maw...

Nearby...

A glowing tunnel of distorted space-time deposits a machine of strange make in a nearby alleyway. It bears a strange red "x" insignia on it's chest. It takes a moment to gauge it's surroundings before assuming the appearance of a generic pimple-faced teen.

...3 days, 14 hours, 37 seconds...temporal anomaly confirmed...identified as Emit Nile, serial number 37-0073...initiating removal of anomaly from present time stream...

The robot aims it's arm at the tank that has just materialized nearby, with worried commlink calls coming from within, and fires a graviton pulse.

The pulse dissolves half the tank before finally connecting with Timeline. Timeline is thrown forward forcefully becoming once again caught up in the portal mystic pull. This time there is no escape.

Hero Point awarded to Timeline for his Enemy complication.

Despite Risen Fate's desperate attempts to halt Archibald's momentum, the Wistwood pulls both hero and victim inexorably closer to the portal.

Risen Fate's hands work of their own accord tracing arcane sigils in the air...

Risen Fate:
No time!

Margenlius...arcantem...vantrelius...sputum!

...and the vines growing out of Archy are growing out of Risen Fate instead! Risen Fate is drawn into the portal and vanishes.

Archibald lands relatively unharmed onto the remains of his backyard.

Dark Sorceror-King of Viskonia [Bruises=1; Conditions: Staggered]

Joe digs furiously into the loose soil and is able to find a tree root to hang on to. He watches as one by one his camrades fall into the gaping portal to...elsewhere. That is when he feels the foot on his hands.

It is futile, creature.

Professor Dela Ruse is standing on the slope above Joe unaffected by the sucking winds of the portal. He is no longer dressed in ill-fitting university attire but rather a dark robe with arcane symbols embroidered in the hem. A large green-black stone hangs from his neck emitting a weird iridescent glow (not the Eye of Cthulhu, this is somthing else).

That portal you see before you is a link to another world. Another world just waiting to be exploited. Now you and your "friends" will explore it for me. I had intended to simply suck in your patron...

He points a ring-adorned finger in Archibald's direction.

...and lure you in elsewhere, but this will work just as well.

A black bolt of unholy energy leaps from the sky at Dela Ruse's command striking Joe and separating him from his tenuous hold on the tree root.

Go forth and do my bidding! Lord Sinh commands you!

And Joe is also sucked into the Dark Portal

Hero point awarded to Joe for his Divine Weakness complication.

Horrific images fill your mind. Long forgotten nightmares from your childhood threaten to overwhelm your senses.

HUNGER!

You are caught in mystical eddies that whisk you away from your time/place but not before you catch a glimpse of an arch...no a doorway...to somewhere else. It hangs broken/wrong at odds with the nothingness that surrounds it. A call comes from beyond it...

HUNGER!!!!

**Reality forms around you, pulling you away from the doorway and into its strictures, it's order, it's endless construction and destruction.**

Voting time! Choose your fate. Did the portal take you to:

-The Plateau of Leng, a forsaken frozen wasteland on an alien world.

-The Ether, where the dead from countless worlds linger on in forgotten torment.

Risen Fate:
Ithran sounds like he's reciting a textbook.

Wistwood: A plant native to the realm of Darjek. Parasitic by nature, the Wistwood vines will implant themselves in nearby living creatures be they flora or fauna. They were named Wistwood for their penchant to lead their host organism back to the vine's sporing grounds. In fauna, this usually results in a certain wistful behavior that escalates into full blown obsession within a week. Seeds and heartwood of the Wistwood plant are prized by summoners as the Wistwood has latent magical properties that cause it's effects to work between dimensions.

It was the only way to get it out of your friend before he was sucked into the portal. I switched the Wistwood seed into your hands instead of Archy's. You have maybe a day before they start growing, two or three before you start to feel it's persuasion. No one has lasted longer than a week before sucumbing to it's influences.

Elder Human Mage 20/ Planeswalker 10/ Engineer 10

Joe is singed from the Unholy Lightning called down by Lord Sinh. Take a Bruise.

Timeline's instincts kick in unconsciously juicing up for a teleport at the incoming danger. Although unable to avoid the blast completely, much of it's impact, and deleterious side effects, are nullified by his agitated molecular state. No Bruise or Power Loss, just get knocked into the portal.

Baker takes a moment to calm his breathing and take stock of the wistwood seed painlessly burrowing its way into his skin, pulsating slightly. If I destroy the plant, will it stop pulling me through dimensions?

Even with his fearlessness, Baker is still noticeably freaked out about being whisked into another dimension. As his vision blurs into the coalescing colors of the void, the image of...

I can't decide between the Ether or Abastion. They both sound really fun...

Risen Fate:
That sorceror was the cause of your change in locations. I suspect the Wistwood plant was being used to track the whereabouts of your friend...and a as a lure for the creature. The transfer from Archy to you has bought you a little time for us to figure out a solution.

What voice? I heard nothing...The Wistwood plant doesn't speak to you directly, it uses magically enhanced chemicals to influence your actions. Ithran appears to not have heard the voice from beyond the Doorway.

Dark Sorceror-King of Viskonia [Bruises=1; Conditions: Staggered]

I think the Being in the Doorway is getting hungrier...

The Eerie Fog lifts revealing your new location to be inside a cellar. A very dark, very warm cellar. It is of medium size with a single stone staircase leading up towards a door. Crates, barrels, and sacks are stacked in organized piles along the walls.

A ghostly image of Lord Sinh appears before you.

You're finally awake, good. Now if you dullards can pay attention for more than a few seconds I have a proposition for you.

Dark Sorceror-King of Viskonia [Bruises=1; Conditions: Staggered]

Know that you are in Abastion, the 7th Circle of Hell. You will procure for me the Heart of Darkness, an ancient relic of the Dark Ones.

It is currently in the possession of Demonlord Izzak, a powerful fiend of the lower planes. Luckily for you I have created a...distraction that should lure Izzak away from his throne. Once you have the orb I will reopen a portal for you to return home. If you fail I will not only leave you to the tender mercies of the Demonlord but I will also end the life of your pitiful Professor Louvre.

so are you the a god, or what. i thought you were an archaeologist? so what is it. also what distraction.

Dark Sorceror-King of Viskonia [Bruises=1; Conditions: Staggered]

The cloaked visage of Lord Sinh shifts it's gaze to Risen Fate. The Heart of Darkness is an item of terrible power ripped from the form of a Dark One near the dawn of Time itself. It's form could be nearly anything from a house to a housecat. Luckily one of you...

He points a clawed, metal finger at Wild Fire. ...has unlocked the Secret of Sight. She should be able to determine what item it is simply by it's aura.

After Joe peppers him with questions. A god? How amusing. I suppose my power would seem godlike to an insignificant ant such as you. You may call me God if you wish. Know that my wrath will rival that of your Almighty should you fail to procure the Heart. I can also assure you I have no interest in mere historical knick knacks nor pursue them as a profession.

He seems to lose his patience at Joe's question about the distraction. Enough prattling! I thought heroes leapt into action whenever they could? I have placed you in the bowels of Izzak's keep. You should find the Heart in his throne room for he never likes to be separated from it for long.

When you have obtained the Heart, have the Darjekian speak these words: Shelzar...Transistus...Amicitus. That will summon my portal for you to transverse. You will work quickly if you value your friend's life.

with that final warning, Lord Sinh's image flickers out of existence leaving you once again in the dark. Each of you notice it is very warm inside this room.

Baker looks at the others.
You know, we could just portal out of here now and take this guy on without his silly fetch-quest. Why subject ourselves to this Lord of Darkness and all if we're just going to end up in the same place at the end. I just really don't like giving this guy what he wants. Thoughts?

Ithran:
Was he talking to you, as the Darjekian? How does he know about you? There's gotta be more going on here than he or you is letting on. Spill, dude; especially if it's going to be something that will help me get through this.

Male [Injuries][heropoints][stabilty]2 [Defenses] D:+3 /P:+0/ F:+3 /T:+5/W:+0 [Stats] STR:+0/STA:+3/AGI:+3/DEX:+4/FIG:+0/4/INT:+10/AWE:+0/PRE:+1

As I agree with you about the not giving it to him i fear if we return now without it archy's fate will be sealed. Also who knows if he is watching us so if we pop back without it he will have to to do in Archy and set up a trap for us. Also we have no reason to trust him that if we do return with the item that he wont kill Archy anyways or if he actually set up a distraction like he said so we must exercise caution in whatever we decide to do, but as we are a team i say we vote to determine the best plan of action. I vote we bring the item back and deal with this lord sinh after we assure Archy is safe.

Risen Fate:
Ithran scoffs, Knowledge of Darjekian magic is not uncommon among mortal casters. After all why not learn from the best? I am however unnerved that he was able to discern our nature so easily from only one encounter. I'll wager he was watching his pet mawworm from afar the entire time. The spell he uttered was simple...too simple.

You may make an Expertise (Arcana) check. Due to the Darjekian nature of the spell, Ithran's knowledge on the subject grants a +5 circumstance bonus. This Expertise check is still INT based. You may treat now until next combat as an encounter for purposes of your Jackpot ability.

So then I still have "All Hearts" active, since we haven't really rested yet? or is this 'rest' counting as a reset of sorts?

Hmm, perhaps you're right. He did know about us a bit to easily and may still be watching. I wonder if we could stop him from observing us... I would also like more information about what the heck we're getting ourselves into. Wildfire, what did he mean when he said you "had the sight?" And does anyone have any information about this place? If this Aabastian is really the 7th circle of hell, which is weird cause I thought there was only one hell... then does that mean you can tell us something about it Rabbi Joe?

Where are we, what's the description of the location, and what/who have we got around? I feel exposed just standing in the open in an unknown region of space and time...

Ithran:
[ooc]Huh, I figured you were something like the only Darjekian left. That spell he told me to cast...Expertise Arcana: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 1 = 25 It feels like there's some power behind the inflection. Risen Fate:

Ithran ponders a moment.

If it is the correct incantation, it should create a portal from this plane to the designated location in the mortal plane. It's a fairly common incantation but most Darjekians would only need to to say the first two phrases of that incantation. I feel like there is a catch to that final phrase. That is where the bulk of the power comes from.

Ithran continues to ramble "out loud".

It is too simple to be a direct threat...but this reminds me of something from my youth...

I have it! He's using a Darjekian transit gateway! The gateways were decommissioned several thousand years ago after we reached certain limitations with the gateway. Only a handful remained but you have to know the true name of the portal to be able to use it. But he isn't giving us the correct name for the gateway, he's given us a close likeness. The gateway's power is limited by the user's magical abilities so he's likely intending for you to use the Heart to power the gateway or perhaps power the gateway from his side after he knows we have the Heart.

If we could guess the name of the portal we could gain control of it! Until then all we can use a mere shadow of it's true abilities. Might be fun to test it though.

Ithran grins.

They're going to think I'm crazy...no backing down.

I turn to the group and look Fate dead in the eye. Ever since the incident with the Eye in Archy's office, I've been able to see...auras...of those that aren't...right. It's a dark, shadowy look that a living being or an item can get. I don't know if this means that they are evil or not from this world, but I can see it. The giant centipede-thing we fought earlier had the same aura.

I turn to Timeline. I also think that we should get the heart and then thwart any attempts for him to kill Archy or get the item. We don't know what this man's plan is, but nothing good can come of using an items called the heart of darkness.

I'd like to go look at the steel bound door when we're all done talking.

You guys have a few minutes and you are able to rest up. Bruises are gone and so are temporary conditions like Staggered.

Joe:
The words translate as Summon...Portal...Amicitus The last word is either a proper name or it is not a word.

Expertise(Theology):

The 7th Circle of Hell is where those who practiced violence are sent for eternity. Their are three rings.
The Outer Ring is a river of fire and boiling blood where murderers are thrown to suffer eternal agony.
The Middle Ring is where suicides are turned into trees to be perpetually eaten by harpies.
The Center Ring is for blasphemers who are tortured endlessly by burning sands and burning rain.

Izzak the Hellscourge, is the demon minotaur that guards the 7th Circle of Hell against intruders and Abastion is his fortress. Outwardly, it looks like any fortress. Inside, it is a labrynthian maze of interconnected corridors and rooms.

You are also fairly certain that the wood these crates, barrels, and doors are made of is hewn from the Wormwood Trees (the trees created when a suicide dies).

so who is supposed to create the return portal? i get the summon portal part of the incantation but what is Amicitus. is it a proper noun cause it doesn't translate well? also you can look at the theology check, i don't want to re write all that.
so these doors are made of suicide victims, we should be careful and shouldn't the minotaur be at the center of the maxe?

Don't know, but it must have been something important since he took his elite guards. Maybe it's a V.I.P.?

Say, want to grab a quick snack from the cellar? The boss won't find out, he never checks this cellar for anything. I even saw a barrel of lava-toads in there the other day.

Footsteps stop right outside the door.

You know the punishment for not being vigilant. I don't want to be flayed alive again. Besides the Mistress will find out and that's just as bad. The last guard who abandoned their post she played with for decades before finally killing them.

The footsteps begin again, heading further down the hallway.

So there really is a distraction going on, we should hurry. timeline if you can can you remember this room so if we need to get to a safe spot you can port us back here. i don't know the specifics of your teleporting.

Yes of course Joe but heres the thing im pretty sure i can teleport us to where the item is I just don't know what we will pop into when we do. I only need vague description of an area to be able to port there for an example the room in Abastion that contains the heart of darkness should suffice, however that is the case on earth who knows how this place effects us and our powers seeing we have not yet tested this theory I recommend using caution when using a power in which we are so familiar.

Ok so what's the plan? Navigating Abastion on foot? Teleporting? Testing out the portal incantation?

DM:
I'll test that out at a more convenient time, I think...

If we can teleport in there, I say we prepare ourselves to do a quick snatch and grab and teleport back here. It'll be quick and I don't want to stay here more than necessary... Timeline should be ready to port us, Wildfire should be ready to spot that item and the Rabbi and I will either run interference or make a grab for the item before Timeline ports us back here.

Wildfire, you can create walls of fire correct, i recommend you be prepared to use that. we shouldn't stay and fight, we should block off of the area from their reinforcements, grab the thing and run back. I'm ready to go when you guys are
