Friar Ferez |
Oh, I thought I would be allowed to use Exousia's previous roll for the SR check for the Waves of Exhaustion spell. If not:
SR check: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (9) + 16 = 25
Vulcan Stormwrath |
Vulcan flies forward stating at the distant dragon with a baleful glare dual claps of thunder sounding as he unleashes lightning to strike out at the enemy.
Caster level check: 1d20 + 17 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 17 + 2 = 28
Sudden Quickeneded Lightningbolt: 10d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 5, 3, 1, 2, 6, 4, 1, 1) = 31
Caster level check VS reduced SR: 1d20 + 17 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 17 + 2 = 28
Piercing Lightningbolt: 10d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 6, 2, 6, 2, 4, 1, 5, 5) = 42
The Worm That Walks |
Can't sleep...
One bolt of lightning washes harmlessly around the dragon while Vulcan focuses and punches the second one through the creatures resistances, searing the dragons chest.
Ferez: Oh, no problem. I just needed to be reminded that you had previously made that roll.
Valgrim: Hit points adjusted.
As Valgrim charges up to it the dragon arrests it's forward momentum with a couple of powerful strokes of it's wings. It hisses out, "You dare confront me in the air insssssect?!" The serpent unleashes it full, if somewhat dampened by the angel spell, fury upon the ranger.
Hover fly check: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24
Dragon full power attack noxious bite: 1d20 + 31 - 3 ⇒ (18) + 31 - 3 = 46
Damage: 4d6 + 19 + 21 ⇒ (4, 2, 4, 2) + 19 + 21 = 52
Dragon full power attack noxious bite haste attack: 1d20 + 31 - 3 ⇒ (9) + 31 - 3 = 37
Damage: 4d6 + 18 + 21 ⇒ (2, 4, 3, 5) + 18 + 21 = 53
Dragon full power attack claw: 1d20 + 31 - 3 ⇒ (20) + 31 - 3 = 48

Dragon full power attack claw: 1d20 + 31 - 3 ⇒ (6) + 31 - 3 = 34
Damage: 2d8 + 13 + 14 ⇒ (7, 3) + 13 + 14 = 37
Dragon full power attack wing: 1d20 + 29 - 3 ⇒ (19) + 29 - 3 = 45
Damage: 2d6 + 8 + 7 ⇒ (3, 6) + 8 + 7 = 24
Dragon full power attack wing: 1d20 + 29 - 3 ⇒ (14) + 29 - 3 = 40
Damage: 2d6 + 8 + 7 ⇒ (3, 1) + 8 + 7 = 19
Dragon full power attack tail slap: 1d20 + 29 - 3 ⇒ (4) + 29 - 3 = 30
Damage: 2d8 + 18 + 21 ⇒ (8, 2) + 18 + 21 = 49
Dc 29 Fort save or be nauseated.
Dragon full power attack claw crit confirm: 1d20 + 31 + 4 - 3 ⇒ (20) + 31 + 4 - 3 = 52
Damage: 2d8 + 13 + 14 ⇒ (2, 2) + 13 + 14 = 31
Bleeding Critical damage: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 6) = 8
143 damage w/ 30 absorbed by stoneskin followed by 8 bleed on Valgrim's turn.
EDIT: Wait, it gets a reflex save for that lightning bolt right?
Reflex save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Both Valgrim and Exousia can't help feel the eyes of other dragons on them. They feel terribly exposed out here in the open air of the Rift...
Your all up again!
P.S. Lightning seems to have full effect, no resistance.
Valgrim Twin-Axe |
Valgrim negates the critical from the wing with a bead from his Bracelet of Second Chances (link in profile to item) - 6 beads left.
Damage from bite: 52-10 = 42
Damage from claw: 36-10 = 26
Damage from wing: 24-10 = 14
Total = 82
Remaining = 73
Fort save vs. nausea: 1d20 + 23 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 23 + 2 - 4 = 35...add +2 if poison effect
The Worm That Walks |
Valgrim: Critical canceled and hit points adjusted.
Almost forgot...
The giant nods his shaggy head at Ferez, turns, and runs toward the edge of the cavern. With a mighty heave a throws the boulder at the distant dragon. The rock deflects harmlessly off the dragons hide. He turns, with a big grin, seemingly proud of his effort.
Hill Giant rock throw: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
The Worm That Walks |
Bublaka |
Did you get the PM I sent re: Darl?
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (14) + 25 = 39
"The Fabler? What? It's going to be tough to get them to disengage without being followed by Necrozyte. Unless you have some insight into finishing that fight quickly, I'll need to know where to meet you."
Friar Ferez |
Thank you for applying Exousia's roll from before on Waves spell.
Round 4:
Friar walks forward and casts Flamestrike on the dragon!
SR check: 1d20 + 17 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 17 + 2 + 4 = 24..ugh!
Exousia casts Dispel Magic on dragon, seeking to dispel its displacement effect.
Dispel check: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (18) + 16 = 34 vs. DC of 11+ dragon's CL
Can Friar use his Hero points on the angel's behalf? If so, he would use 1 HP now to make total of 36, if allowed, dispelling 25 or lower caster level.
Bublaka |
Friar: A 34 was sufficient to dispel stoneskin. Besides, she's not affected by the displacement and Bubba can spam greater dispel magic for a while yet today. Just a thought.
Friar Ferez |
When was the stoneskin dispelled? Wow, I missed that. I thought Valgrim's weapon penetrated the stoneskin. Besides, we're all 17th level casters and the angel is only 16th. But thanks for the info.
Oh and she was dispelling it for Valgrim who is in melee with dragon. If she attacks it, AoO and her AC of 37 is just too low for it, with its added bonuses and damage against her due to smite. She's hoping the dwarf can full-attack the dragon and damage her severely.
Vug Vang |
Seeing that the fight doesn't seem to be coming back to land, Vug flies to within bombing range and throws a force bomb.
with Invisibility, Haste, Heroism and Inspire Courage
1d20 + 2 + 21 + 1 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 2 + 21 + 1 + 2 + 4 = 419d4 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (2, 1, 3, 2, 3, 4, 3, 4, 1) + 7 + 4 = 34
DC 25 Reflex save or fall prone?
Valgrim Twin-Axe |
Round 4:
Hearing from the angel that the magic has been dispelled, Valgrim raises his fist and looks at the fiendish dragon, "Insect?! You should not have angered me! Necrozyte, born of devil, time to teach you a lesson in pain you will never forget!"
Free action: rage
Swift action: Cast Instant enemy (undead)
Normal: +34 hit
Rage: +2 hit, +3 damage
Favored enemy (undead): +6 hit, +6 damage
Full-attack power attack:
Hasted attack: 1d20 + 34 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 34 + 2 + 6 = 62...possible critical
Damage: 2d4 + 32 + 9 + 2d6 ⇒ (1, 4) + 32 + 9 + (2, 6) = 54
Primary: 1d20 + 29 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 29 + 2 + 6 = 51
Damage: 2d4 + 32 + 9 + 2d6 ⇒ (1, 2) + 32 + 9 + (3, 1) = 48
Secondary: 1d20 + 24 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 24 + 2 + 6 = 46
Damage: 2d4 + 32 + 9 + 2d6 ⇒ (2, 4) + 32 + 9 + (2, 1) = 50
Tertiary: 1d20 + 19 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 19 + 2 + 6 = 42...possible critical
Damage: 2d4 + 32 + 9 + 2d6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 32 + 9 + (4, 5) = 54
Fourth: 1d20 + 14 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 14 + 2 + 6 = 31...miss
Confirmation #1: 1d20 + 34 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 34 + 2 + 6 = 61
Additional damage: 2d4 + 32 + 9 ⇒ (1, 3) + 32 + 9 = 45
Confirmation #2: 1d20 + 19 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 19 + 2 + 6 = 43
Additional damage: 2d4 + 32 + 9 ⇒ (2, 3) + 32 + 9 = 46
If a 42 crits and remember dragon's AC drops by 3 due to exhausted condition, total damage = 54+48+50+54+45+46 = 297 damage
If 42 does not hit, then only 197 damage.
Yay die roller!!! On the good guys' side for once!
The Worm That Walks |
Ok, I'll assume that Bublaka was delaying. Those debuffs were critical.
Vug's bomb explodes leaving a scorch mark across the dragons scales just a second before Valgrim hacks into the dragons chest and underbelly opening up huge grievous wounds that are undoubtedly mortal. The dwarf hacks free a amulet embedded in Necrozyte's chest and manages to grab the bloody trophy just before the dead dragons wings collapse, as all strength goes from them and its body plummets into the misty depths of the rift. No sooner does this happen than you all realize you have some more unwanted attention as four younger black dragons dart down from on high toward you, like piranha smelling blood in the water...
They breath out toxic streams of acid as they approach.
Exousia is immune to the two directed at her.
Valgrim needs to make a DC21 reflex or take: 10d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 2, 1, 5, 3, 2, 6, 1, 1) = 31 acid damage.
Ferez, the hill giant, and Vulcan need to make a DC21 reflex or take: 10d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 2, 3, 1, 4, 1, 3, 2, 2) = 24 acid damage as the last one line the two of them up.
Hill Giant reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Also, Valgrim is pretty sure he noticed the glint of gold from the tip of one of Necrozyte's spines before she fell.
Round 5, your all up!
Valgrim Twin-Axe |
Reflex save: 1d20 + 18 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 18 + 2 = 32...no damage
Round 5:
With one dragon down and 29 to go, Valgrim's furor intensifies and he sideswipes the black dragon and lands on the other side of it, near Friar.
Spring Attack: No AoO due to movement from target if you move at least 10 feet
Raging power attack: 1d20 + 34 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 34 + 2 = 44
Damage: 2d4 + 35 + 2d6 ⇒ (1, 4) + 35 + (4, 6) = 50
Rounds of rage used: 2 of 10
Friar Ferez |
Friar was impressed to see the dwarf to take out the massive dragon in 1 round and then dismayed when 4 more dragons joined the fray.
No damage due to acid resistance so no Reflex save needed, right?
Friar's round
Friar grips his holy symbol, points at the black dragon further west of the dragon engaged with Valgrim and casts Destruction on it.
Cast defensively: 1d20 + 17 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 17 + 7 = 34 vs. DC 29
SR check: 1d20 + 17 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 17 + 2 + 4 = 27
Fort save DC 24 or take 170 damage; success means it takes 60 damage instead. I think the 10d6 are maximized with the incense; if not, 10d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 3, 1, 2, 5, 2, 5, 6, 6) = 34
Exousia:
GM, the angel has regeneration 10 every round, I hope you've been adding it on.
The angel moves up to attack the dragon engaged with the mad dwarf!
Power attack: 1d20 + 27 + 4 + 1 + 2 - 5 ⇒ (4) + 27 + 4 + 1 + 2 - 5 = 33
Damage: 3d6 + 2d6 + 37 ⇒ (3, 3, 4) + (3, 3) + 37 = 53
The Worm That Walks |
Exousia's hitpoints fixed. Thanks for the reminder.
Black dragon Fort save: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
In a spectacular blaze of holy power one of the dragons is consumed utterly by Ferez's prayer!
Valgrim and Exousia badly wound their adversary but it is still aloft.
Hill Giant rubble throw: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
The giant utterly misses the dragons...
Friar Ferez |
Woo! Some good news! These dragons are draining my spells little by little.

Bublaka |
Not intentionally delaying, just not available. I am having trouble getting into Roll20 at the moment, so I'm not sure where everyone is located, especially the dragons.
The Worm That Walks |
Bublaka: Yes, seems sincere. Hmmmm, Roll20 is showing you logged in already. Wonder if your login is stuck. Trying to figure out how to kick you out so you can come back in.
or...seeing as you asked me a question in the Roll20 chat, maybe it's working now. Don't know, you'll have to let me know.
Yes, both southern dragons are lined up quite nicely for you :)
Bublaka |
Bublaka moves from his position to one that lines up the two dragons not engaged with the dwarf and the angel. Casting a spell that brings forth shadowstuff, he creates a bolt of lightning that hits both of them. Using the whip of fury, he increases the potential damage of the bolt.
Shadow Evocation Will DC 21 to disbelieve for 1/5 damage; Reflex DC 21 for half damage
SR check for first dragon: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (7) + 17 = 24
SR check for second dragon: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26
Electrical Damage: 10d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 3, 4, 5, 6, 6, 3, 5, 2) = 42 Empowered, so total 63 damage if they fail both saves
Bublaka |
Didn't see your edit - I had two tabs in the browser on Roll20. I had to kill one, then the other worked fine. Otherwise, I was in a constant login loop or something.
The Worm That Walks |

Reflex save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
One of the dragons is quick enough to get out of the bolts path but still gets singed. While the other takes it full on but seems to see through the illusory magic.
Vulcan Stormwrath |
Flying closer, Vulcan gasps both rods, rapidly sending two bolts of lightning crashing toward the dragon approaching Bubba.
Caster level check: 1d20 + 17 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 17 + 2 = 27
Sudden Quickened: 10d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 4, 2, 4, 6, 1, 4, 4, 4) = 36

Sudden Empowered: 10d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 4, 4, 4, 2, 1, 1, 2, 2) = 26 empowered 39
Vug Vang |
Vug fires some arrows at the wounded dragons.
With Rapid Shot, Heroism, Inspire Courage, Haste:

1d20 + 19 + 2 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 19 + 2 + 4 + 1 = 401d8 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 4 = 13
1d20 + 14 + 2 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 14 + 2 + 4 + 1 = 301d8 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 4 = 15
1d20 + 9 + 2 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 9 + 2 + 4 + 1 = 211d8 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 4 = 17
The Worm That Walks |
The first two arrows are enough to cause the dragon between Valgrim and Exousia to plummet into the Rift. The last three arrows hit the serpent closest to Bublaka but one shatters off the draconic scales. Barely able to fly it dives disappearing into the mists of the canyon. Seeing itself alone the last one decides that there are easier pickings elsewhere and flies off south along the city.
Ferez: You have a private message.
Bublaka |
Bublaka shouts to the others, "Quickly! This way before more of them notice us!"
The bard turns to follow a small figure toward the massive stone buildings of the city.
Friar Ferez |
Friar casts Heal on Valgrim and then we all follow the bards.
The Worm That Walks |
Will save for Magic Jar: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
The little man suddenly stops and holds his head, "Someth...urrrggh, something just tried to take over my body. Be careful it may try the same thing on you. Quickly, it could be some invisible attacker. This way!"
Vagrim: You have a private message.
The Worm That Walks |
The Worm That Walks |
The Fabler gives a humorless smile to Valgrim as the ranger approaches, "Nice work on that bit of nastiness Necrozyte. Let's get inside before nastier things than those black dragons decide to come investigate."
Vug follows her companions as they cross to Bublaka.
Vug: They don't seem to be under the effects of any enchantments as far as you can tell.
The Worm That Walks |
Friar Ferez Bluff: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Valgrim Bluff: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13
Exousia: Cannot Bluff because she's a freakin' ANGEL!
Fabler Sense Motive: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14
The Fabler looks over his shoulder at the approaching group, takes a few steps back defensively, and raises his hand as if to hopefully ward off any violence, "Wait...I'm here to help...You don't wan..." His words trail off as his and the angels eyes meet...and he sees no quarter in them. That is when Friar Ferez casts Boneshatter on him, taking advantage of the little man being distracted with the others.
Fort save: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19
You here the creaking of tortured bone but the Fabler doesn't even wince...he does yell out, "I surrender! Don't hurt me!" The little man looks quite pitiful.
Fabler Initiative: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16
Valgrim Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Friar Ferez Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Exousia Initiative: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Vug Vang Initiative: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
Vulcan Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Bublaka Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Looks like everyone except Exousia and Bublaka go before The Fabler.
Valgrim Twin-Axe |
Friar Ferez |
Can Friar do a spellcraft check to see what happened to his Boneshatter spell? It did not penetrate his SR? The spell affects objects so the Fabler is not immune. Spellcraft: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Friar speaks, "We shall not fall for your illusory tricks, Spawn of Kyuss! Destroy it!"
Valgrim Twin-Axe |
Heck yeah, that was better, GM! Thanks.
Surprise round:
I don't think we're inspired, so won't add that

The Worm That Walks |
Your probably still fatigued at this point but it won't matter.
The Fabler never gets a chance to say another word as he is chopped into pieces by the Ranger. The hill giant frowns and cuffs Ferez while saying something in giant, but the priest manages to avoid the cumbersome swing.
Hill Giant cuff: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Heh, poor lil creep never stood a chance. Serves him right for having no sense motive and absolutely NO knowledge of what angel are capable of! Loot off the Ominous Fabler: leather armor +5, +3 defending short sword, +1 light cross bow with 20 bolts, helm of teleportation, ring of chameleon power, Belt of Dexterity +4, potion of fly (2), wand of invisibility (42 charges), scented oils worth 500 gp.
112,000 xp for this whole encounter. 9,600 xp for the hill giants in the tower. I think that is enough for next level but we'll wait til you rest again before leveling up.
Ok, where to now? On to Charlgar?
Previously...
Having driven off the last of the dragons the angel turns back toward the city and notices the somewhat sinister-looking gnome-like humanoid with a prodigious nose, beady eyes, and pointed ears now speaking to Bublaka. Her vision immediately pierces the powerful illusions cloaking the figure revealing the sallow rotten flesh of his body and fat green worms writhing within empty eye sockets. The creature is standing right next to the unsuspecting bard!
As Friar heals the dwarf, he whispers to him what the angel saw and tells him and Exousia to get within melee range of the bard and that he will set it off when the trap is ready. Friar is sure that as a Kyuss worm minion, he's here to get the phylactery and can't be trusted and he needs to be dealt with immediately.
P.S. I was going to be very entertained if it turned out to be poor Prickly you were all hacking apart but The Fabler managed to make his save.
