Flynnvas Merryweather |
Amen brother
Lilith Sylvari |
Lilith was expecting the entire party and believes there will be at least one fight.
As the wizard concentrates on the stone doors for two more rounds she tries to determine if the abjuration is some sort of trap and what it might do. After that she is disappointed that she cannot read the writing and asks for help. Seeing that Flynn is not present she asks I believe the stone doors are warded with a magical trap. Where is Flynn. I would not recommend we open a door without him.

Lingusitics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Lenneth Barlow |
"I don't think he wanted to make Skyfall try to swim that path and I don't think he felt comfortable leaving her or the others behind," Lenneth whispers. She shivers, partly from the damp but also because she can understand Flynn's position all too well. "I left Indigo to wait with Aura, too. This is...well, I think this is the first time there's been any real distance between us. I can still feel his presence, but it's faint now."
The witch eyes the large stone doors with some trepidation as she chooses her next words carefully. "But before our connection dimmed, he warned me to take care - and to beware the sign of flame and fur."
Lilith Sylvari |
I see. Lilith says with a worried look. I have come to rely on the halfling. He has a sharp eye and is good in a fight even when not mounted, but very well. Valex, can you read this writing? It eludes me.
Lilith Sylvari |
Right. Its an assumption. Magic on an old stone door = likely trap. Enough for our rogue to pay extra attention in his search of the door I think.
Valex |
Lingusitics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
I can...sort of make this out. There's a lot of ambiguity...
"With water <protect>/<cleanse> the body, with <power>/<guile> guard the mind, with prayer <open the way>/<see the truth>"
"Thassalonians could make a sermon and a riddle out of a soup recipe.." he says with a wry grin.
Feldus Roni |
Feldus already rolled his Perception for the double doors on THIS post. His Disable Device score is only a +6 so chances are he won't be able to disable the trap, if it is magical in nature.
Flynnvas Merryweather |
As he waits for some sign from the others Flynn paces uneasily and makes a loop around his side of the pool, keeping an eye out for anything unusual.
You know what this place is by any chance Aura?
Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (18) + 14 = 32
GM Fiendish |
Aura turns to Flynn with surprise in her eyes
No... she looks puzzled, then light dawns in her eyes.
...because of the whole 'older than my years' thing, right. she nods, almost to herself, before fixing Flynn with her gaze.
I can tell you this place feels old, but there don't appear to be any strange flashes of insight or revelations forthcoming...
she trails one hand across the remnants of a stone wall.
Have you ever seen anything like it?
Flynn keeps very alert, and is sure nothing out of the ordinary is in his immediate surround.
Underground... which door, if either?!
Melo |
How large is the room we're in now? and how big are these doors? 5ft?
Also Assuming Feldus didnt find any traps im going to try and open the metal door.
Melo scratches the back of his head, looking from door to door. "We can't wait here all day lets get moving." He then moves towards the metal door and attempts to open it.
Flynnvas Merryweather |
I dunno. the halfling answers. You seem to know about things you couldn't really know about so why not this?
He shrugs and turns to say to her honestly;
I don't understand what's going on with you Aura. You must understand that what's happening to you isn't.... well... 'normal.' I've never understood magic, but I grew up with enough Druids to witness the power they channeled from and held over nature. But I don't think even Lillith or Lenneth have seen anything like you.
We'll keep you safe, girl. And we'll get to the bottom of all this. he adds with a squeeze of her shoulder.
He turns to the others then;
Robban, how are you doing? he asks, conscious that his friend very recently suffered a grievous wound.
Lilith Sylvari |
Lilith stands ready to support the group as Melo tries to open the smaller of the doors. No magic coming off that one. she notes.
Lenneth Barlow |
"Yes, we can come back to this other one in time," Lenneth agrees. "We might find other clues about how to open or what's behind it if we look around a bit more."
As the group turns their attentions to the second door, the witch takes a few moments to place some magical protections on herself before they proceed much further.
False Life: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 temporary HPs.
Lenneth will cast False Life and Mage Armor on herself.
GM Fiendish |
The half of the room you're in measures perhaps 60 ft by 60 ft, the metal door is 5 ft across, the stone doors are 10 ft each, for a total doorway size of 20 ft
Melo opens the metal door, it squeaks in protest, unoiled hingses screeching their discomfort. The door opens in to a small room, some 20 ft by 60 ft, a slim bench down one side of the corridor and the floor looking decidedly slippery.
To Feldus, the slick surface smells very much like natural ice, perhaps a very thin sheet of it. Lilith's magic shows that the floor has a tiny enchantment on it.
Feldus' keen senses also see a slight burst of brighter magical aura on the stone doors when Lenneth casts her second spell, then it fades like it had never happened.
*
Aura stares at Flynn
I don't really kknow what's going on Flynn she sighs
but then again I don't know what is normal as I've only ever known my life. I don't understand how I know how to speak common, or half a hundred other things that need time to have passed.
She stares at the floor
I appreciate your want to keep me safe, that's... nice she tries a smile, but it's not a very confident one.
Rabban looks startled when Flynn addresses him.
Sorry 'bout that, was thinking about the before. Knew this girl, been seeing her for a year and just worked my way up to asking her to marry me. Course the Harvest happened. Funny how things change, back then I was going over the conversations we'd had in my head, now I don't know what ever happened to her.
He glances up
What about you? Leave any loved ones behind?
Feldus Roni |
Feldus slowly moves into the room, sniffing the air cautiously to make sure the room is unoccupied. A feeling of sadness washed over him as he contemplates what sort of rituals must have taken place in here.
Waving the others to stay back he casts a simple cantrip and concentrates upon the ice surface. Cast Detect Poison. Once he is satisfied there is no danger presented in the room he waves the others inside.
He motions Valex to join him next to the ice surface. "That message you saw earlier mentioned water protecting, or maybe cleansing the body, right? Perhaps this pool was used for that purpose?"
Can Feldus determine how deep this pool is?
Flynnvas Merryweather |
@Robban
We all left people behind brawd. Flynn says sadly. I never married nor had children, used to say I loved my freedom too much to be stuck on the ground. he snorts laughter.
But now I wonder whether I missed out on those moments you shared with your girl, or if I was lucky not to have to say goodbye to them when all this happened.
These days I find it is easy to dwell on the past, but impossible to think about the future beyond the next meal or the next fight.
Lilith Sylvari |
Unsure if there is a passage from the metal door area or just a room. Lilith studies the magic she picked up from the cold room.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30
Maybe someone used this room for cold storage. Perhaps food stuff, or even bodies
GM Fiendish |
The ground is slippery, but easily managed if you take your time and don't try to run. The walls reflect noise oddly as Feldus covers the distance to the other end of the narrow room.
The metal door has a remarkable lack of dust despite the fact the area seems disused. Feldus also thinks he can smell ozone in the air around the door, perhaps a slight edge to his hearing, a rattle of his teeth. Something in him tells him he doesn't like this door very much.
He also sees a slight depression in the wall next to the door, hand-sized and about the same level a handle would be on the door if it had one.
Lenneth Barlow |
"Cold storage? Huh...I never would have thought of that, but you might be right," Lenneth whispers back, looking thoughtful. "If that's the true though, I hope they stored food stuffs instead of bodies..."
Carefully, she creeps into the room after the others. "Another door? This place is bigger than I thought it'd be."
Feldus Roni |
"Yeah, and this be trapped. I'm certain of that. Electrical in nature too." Feldus points out the depression as well to the others. "You put your hand there to open it but you gotta do it the right way or you get fried." He glances back at the pool of ice and then back towards the door. "They are connected in some way I am sure of it."
Valex |
Curious, Valex makes his way up to the door, examining the impression and sniffing the air.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
KNow/arcana: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Lilith Sylvari |
If the two of you are going to try disarm it those not helping should stand well away. Lilith observes sensibly.
Melo |
"If you think somethings not right, let's be extra careful." He takes a step back at Liliths words. looking back the way they came. "It will be trapped for a reason, take your time. If this place goes any deeper we might need to tell the others before we continue."
GM Fiendish |
Valex assesses the door and surroundings, the room appears to serve some sort of purpose given the enchantment on it. Cold storage perhaps? Odd that it is off of a pool of water instead of a food preparation area however. It strikes both him and Lilith though, the architecture is spot on, but what *was* this place if not a temple of sorts? What purpose did it serve?
Your teeth start to chatter as the cold air begins taking its toll.
We're a way from environmental damage levels, but you're definitely noticing that it's not comfortable to spend too much time in this room without more protection than your wet clothes currently provide...
Feldus Roni |
Feldus, being used to inclement weather conditions (plus having fur upon his other forms), shrugs off the chill. Peering first at the door then the pool once again shakes his head. "So, what WAS this place for? Not like any temple I ever heard of before." When he hears Melo mention the others, he nods. "Yeah, best to let them know this puzzle is more complex than we thought."
He says to Lilith. "I think I can trigger the trap here with one of my spells. Risky, but we also may learn more about the trap and how to disable it by doing so. By forming a hand from my own life force, I could use it to try opening the door."
Feldus is referring to the spell Spectral Hand here.
Lenneth Barlow |
"S-sounds like a g-good idea," Lenneth agrees, teeth chattering slightly. "Let's s-step back outside, it's p-pretty cold in here and these wet clothes d-don't help," she adds, doing just that.
"And yeah, one of us c-can go back and give the others an update if this p-place ends up being any b-bigger."
Feldus Roni |
Feldus waves everyone else out of the room and then steps outside himself before casting his spell. Soon a ghostly hand appears in the frigid air and slowly floats across the room above the pool before it settles into the depression next to the door.
Flynnvas Merryweather |
From somewhere close by but feeling somewhat distant, Lenneth feels a sense of both reassurance and concern. The bracelet on her wrist grows warm to the touch as Flynn projects to it as best he can.
Lenneth Barlow |
As Lenneth anxiously waits to see if Feldus' magical hand has any effect on getting the door open, she starts as she feels the bracelet on her wrist grow warm. Despite the gloomy surroundings and being soaked to the bone, she can't help but smile.
"The others are okay," she whispers.
Realizing that the distance is too much to pass proper thoughts, Lenneth does her best to project reassurance as well as relief back through the connection.
GM Fiendish |
Feldus' summoned hand settles against the door frame, and with a flickering pulse of energy the door shudders and grinds open. The chamber within is dark, however Feldus can just see the edges of what llok likr several stone plinths in the room. The icy floor seems to end at the doorway, the chamber beyond having a normal stone floor.
Feldus Roni |
Feldus glances at the others, a look of uncertainty in his eyes. "Well, that was unexpected..." Still not willing to risk entering the room just yet, he withdraws the spectral hand and uses it to drop a rock on the icy floor. "Just being careful here." He adds softly. "Valex, what do you think? Is it safe?"
Lilith Sylvari |
Lilith sends her dancing lights forward and peers into the newly opened room. Its like this cold room could be accessed from two sides. she notes.
GM Fiendish |
Lilith's lights reveal a larger chamber, with four raised stone plinths the same size and shape as sarcophagi, though they have flat tops and seem to have no lids, just smooth stone.
A raised bronze pedestal covered in etched designs of waves and stars sits against the far wall, with two more metal doors on the other side of the room, at the north and south ends of the wall.
Valex |
Valex appraoches the entrance of the room with the plinths without entering. "Lets have a look..."
Any appropriate knowledges to gain some insight into the room's purpose?
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
IF his search reveals no traps, he will cast Detect Magic and concetrate, scanning the room, for three rounds.
spellcraft: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Lilith Sylvari |
This place is much larger that I initially thought. Should we continue without Flynn? And as much as this seems like a place for body storage now I am wondering if the cold could be some sort of buffer to prevent entry from something that dislikes the cold. The cold room is not really set up for storage of anything.
Feldus Roni |
"Don't forget about that riddle we saw earlier. "With water <protect>/<cleanse> the body, with <power>/<guile> guard the mind, with prayer <open the way>/<see the truth>"" Feldus reminds her. "I suspect we are getting closer to the answer here."
GM Fiendish |
There is a slight aura of conjuration emanating from the bronze plinth.
As the brief glow of the pedestal fades, Valex thinks the room is safe, no traps found. Judging from the setup of the room, something was placed on the plinths, and then something happened to the things on the plinths. Beyond that, there is the repetition of the phrase 'With water <protect>/<cleanse> the body' written in the script on the walls.
