For some of you, prying and wrenching at the wood lathing proves to be very easy. With minimal effort you are able to cut a hole large enough for your hand to fit through and proceed to create a large enough hole to look into your room.
For others, your efforts are akin to a bard banging her drums. The knocking on the wood, which slowly but finally breaks and allows you to have an opening into a room, brings with it the familiar and haunting moan that you heard last night.
Alfonso, more intent upon getting out instead of getting into his room, hears this moan and jumps to the hall opening. Sticking his head down, he sees the things stumbling down the hall towards rooms that are open. Looking towards the staircase, he sees 6 of them stumbling up the stairs.
****
this post applies to everyone but alfonso, khron, and Bel
Taking a moment to catch your breath from the effort, you peer cautiously into your room, and for a moment, its clear. But your hope is slowly eroded as one of those things shuffles into the room due to an unlocked door.
ill make a map which shows the dispersion of the creatures and where your rooms are.
Khron Stonearm |
You and Alfonso didn't even attempt to smash into your rooms, so that's probably what's going on for you. I imagine the map will make things a lot clearer when he finishes it up.
RIZZENMAGNUS |
verify that you are on the map. i color coded the rooms, the layout, the first and second floor, and the creatures.
alfonso, in answer to your question and roll. The inn's name is called the salty spray. You are in the lowcleft district. There is a theater hall next to the salty spray. nothing big, similiar to those "off broadway" theaters. an alley to the rear of the salty spray seperates it from its competition, the howling named for its unique air holes in the roof that allow for the passage of air to blow through, creating strange tunes. most find it disquieting, but some find it soothing.
Khron Stonearm |
So, let's say Khron hooks the blade of his axe in the ceiling so he has something to grab on to, could he drop down into his room and grab his stuff, and then maybe use a chair or something to get back up?
Khron Stonearm |
225 lbs. Sadly I don't have either of those skills, and Khron isn't the kind of guy to leave that to chance. If the only way out after going down into the room is fighting his way out, so be it, but he's gonna want backup.
"If we go get our things, it's possible we can't get back up 'ere. I think th' safes' bet 'ould be ta group up an' fight our way outta 'ere." Khron's hand is wrapped tightly around the grip of his weapon, and there is almost no hesitation in his eyes. "What d'ya think, hm?", he addresses to no one in particular.
Jacob Heckler |
Jacob and Fritz finds the room the hafling was staying in, and they work together to break through the ceiling of it.
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5 Jacob assisting
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 Frizt breaking through.
Fritz yanks the ceiling open, with no help from Jacob and peaks down into the room, glancing around. "Aha, I see our stuff!" Jacob nods, looking around at the others while saying. "Good, can you grab out stuff, and quick?"
Where would you say their items would be? And how far down is the floor, wondering if Fritz, with a 10ft reach, can grab anything? And sorry for the long delay, all day was playing Shadowrun.
Khron Stonearm |
The dwarf ponders this for a moment. "Aye, sounds like a plan. Le's do it."
Kragdash |
Sorry for the delay my internet was down. Are the doors on West and East walls on all of the rooms, the last two could have them on the south, and do they open in to the room or out of the room? Thinking about the possibility of barring the doors.
"It will take some time of we want to put our armors on. The hall is narrow we could try pincer move, if we have four people who are ready to bash some heads in. Better if we have people with long spears behind them."
Belvedyr Haverfoot |
Bel looks into his room and spots his heavy crossbow. He looks for any zombies and if there are none in his room, he drops down into his erstwhile quarters and quickly retrieves his weapon and quiver along with his armour. With the assistance of those still in the loft area, he clambers back up and loads his crossbow.
Alfonso |
Rizzen, what is the purple thing in square N,16?
Alfonso watches the hordlet shamble up the stairs.
"Well this should buy us some time anyway."
Brightly colored pains and inks seem to ooze through Alfonso's gloves the liquids vanishing just as they drip and spurt free. At the same time Smooth sandstone walls silently appear closing off the corridor to the north and south of the stairs while at the head of the stairs the floor now appears to vanish replaced by a vertigo inducing image of the night sky.
Casting Silent Image DC15. The walls appear at the northern edge of squares N&O,19 and at the southern edge of squares N&O, 14. The star-field covers squares N&O,15&16. Note the star-field is slightly raised above the floor with the top step appearing an inch or so taller to compensate. I have the area of effect to manage this but it might be pushing the spell. Please let me know if this is too complicated for silent image to manage.
Kragdash |
Not really understanding what the human was doing, he just ignored it and continued with the plan. "I have rope among my belongings would help with gaining our stuff. Somebody get ready to pick me back up, ok?" Kragdash noted. The orc did his best to grap a hold of the attic floor and lower himself to his room so he would as little noise as possible. He would first head for his axe before starting to push his other belongings back in to the attic. After that climb back in to the attic.
Should we roll sneak for not making noise, or something to get down?
EDIT: Damn ninjad.
The Fritz |
"I should be able to reach the stuff here!" Fritz reaches into the room, leaning if have to, using his long reach to begin grabbing stuff that's piled up on the bed, beginning with his bardiche! All the while Jacob watches, biting his bottom lip and holding his breath. "Just be quiet while you do so." He looks at the others while they are grabbing their stuff or attempting too.
Khron Stonearm |
Khron waits to assist people in getting back to the attic, though the impatient look on his face betrays him.
I hope they can do this quickly, I don't particularly feel like getting roasted alive an' eaten by those things...
Eamch Stone |
When Khron is ready to lift Eamch back up, the half-orc will drop to the floor below trying to keep as quiet as possible. Assuming nothing busts through the door to assail him, he’ll pass up his pack to the dwarf (not bothering yet to take out and don his leather armor). He’ll slip his falchion in its sheath over his shoulder and reach up to Khron to get help back up.
Acrobatics DC 15 to mitigate the damage for deliberately falling 10’. 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Stealth check to try and hit the floor quietly. 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Alfonso |
You guys who are dropping into the rooms realize you are easily wearing 5' ropes right? 2 pairs of pants wound around each other would easily support all but the dwarf who could be at the top holding on. This turns the 10' drop into a 5' one and allows an easy climb back out.
Alfonso continues to concentrate on the illusion hoping to keep the 7 cursed on the stairs from coming up.
Khron Stonearm |
Khron is NOT getting naked so you can use his pants as a rope, especially when he knows he has 50 ft. of rope in his pack!
Alfonso |
Hey, no skin off my nose either way. Alfonso has neither the need nor the desire to get into his former room. Just saying that our cleric took 1d6 from an avoidable fall. And that one of the tropes in zombie stories is to use familiar objects in new ways. Me I'm just keeping the party from getting too crowded as you folks stomp around.
Khron Stonearm |
That likely came off as less light-hearted than I intended. Curse you, text!
RIZZENMAGNUS |
Alfonso. Ill allow the silent image wall. It falls within the imagination of the caster, so you're good
the purple thing at N16 is the hole you guys created to get up into the attic.
acrobatics and sneak skill checks work
eamch is good.
bel not so much. Take fall damage1d6 ⇒ 5
fritz can reach the gear in Jacobs room.
Khron, you are assisting the others before getting your gear, correct?
teodor, nothing of use, although you do manage to make a small hole to see outside.
i havent seen anyone else posting saying they are going into their rooms.
Alfonso |
Posted in discussion by mistake. Foolish noble.
Rizzen, can you say anything about the things? I am wondering:
a, if any are actively bleeding.
b, if they show obvious life ending wounds. Nothing subtle here i'm talking missing limbs or head, large deep open wounds that are not bleeding, exposed grey matter, or grievous breaches to the body wall.
c, if they are walking (normal), shuffling (minimal limb movement), staggering (alternating controlled motion with less-controlled lurching), stumbling (faster staggering), or shambling (shuffling combined with staggering).
d, if the ones coming up the stairs are aware they are on stairs. This is more complicated and I may have a bad angle but I want to know if they are lifting their foot before they hit the riser like a normal person/animal going up a staircase or are they more feeling their way. Tapping their lead foot into the riser, raising the foot a little and then repeating until the foot reaches the flat. I am looking to uncover whether they understand "stairs" or if they understand only "go that way". I realize this one case will not be conclusive but data is data.
e, if any are holding anything?
f, if they react to each other. Do they get out of each others way or do they have to touch/bounce off each other?
g, if any reacted to the illusion.
Khron Stonearm |
Yeah, Khron is helping the others out before he heads into his room. He's a pretty strong little dude, so he should be able to pull people up pretty well.
Eamch Stone |
eamch is good.
Eamch puts on his backpack, but doesn't take the time to don armor now.
If Khron is waiting for others to go down and go back up, Eamch will wait with him and help where he can.
If Khron is ready to go into his own room, Eamch will give him the choice: Eamch can go first and ready his weapon, or Eamch can help lower him down, and then wait to help him back up or follow him down. The ratter is obviously appreciative of the help he got and willing to do what he can to return the favor.
Jacob Heckler |
Jacob fist-pumps Fritz grabs all their gear without having to get into the room. Fritz helps Jacob get his armor on, and they move over to the hole that's being made, Fritz holding his bardiche close to himself so not to take up so much room.
Belvedyr Haverfoot |
Bel lands on his ankle and curses silently as he feels a sharp pain. Nevertheless, he appears to have avoided attracting the attention of the walking dead and quickly recovers his heavy crossbow and armour before waiting to get a hand back up into the attic.
Khron Stonearm |
Khron notices Bel's finished collecting his equipment and extends an arm down to the halfling man.
You're probably gonna need to jump off a dresser or something, or toss up some rope if you have any. Neither of us are particularly tall! ;)
Kragdash |
Climb 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 Assuming climb is an option, because of the situation if not just drop 3 from the result to athletics check of 8.
Stealth 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Heh seems the d20 is not with me tonight. The plan remains the same as in my earlier post, first get the axe then other stuff back in to the attic and then himself.
Belvedyr Haverfoot |
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Bel makes a standing jump and grabs onto the outstretched hand of Khron.
"Much obliged, my friend," Bel says with a grin, before grimacing as he tests his ankle gingerly, "A bit of a fall there but no lasting harm done."
Alfonso |
you see one zombie with her core torn out. her organs trail on the ground behind her, slowly oozing a fluid that darkens the floor.
"Well I guess that rules out the disease theory."
Khron Stonearm |
Should I make a Strength check to haul Bel up into the attic, or are we just gonna say it worked?
Khron Stonearm |
Khron bodily lifts Bel back into the attic. "Careful, we can't be gettin' hurt 'fore we ev'n start dealin' wi' these creatures." The dwarf looks at Jacob, Eamch and Bel in turn. "Any of ya happen t' 'ave some rope? I have no confidence that I won't fall down 'ere and bust me head on the floor and drawin' the attention of all them things. Fightin's me strong suit, not sneakin' or hoppin'."
Though I must admit, the thought of a dwarf falling out of the ceiling and landing face-first on the wooden ground is kinda funny.
Alfonso |
!!!!??? They walked right through the illusion?!?your fine, khron
With Alfonso sticking his head through the hole and staring intently at the things, the things respond, and congregate around the opening, some reaching up to grasp at his head.
