Instead of acting it all out, I'm just going to buy some specialty arrows and put down 100 gold for a +0 Composite bow, maybe a bit extra to make it gnomish and eastern. I will message you what arrows when I get back tonight.Other than that, I'm good to continue on.

Curious about the strange fellow followig after his companion. Not seeing any hostility, he would still cease his practice to give chase, following calmly to learn exactly why he had been interested in his small friend. When he vanished around the corner, his lone pink eye would dart from one side to another, attempting to locate the man before finally giving up and returning to wait for the others.

Anyone available to buy first level wizard spells from in this town?
There is a local hedge wizard or two that would have some first level spells. Let me know what you are looking for and I'll tell you if it is available. In this village, anything related to nature/crops is more likely to be available than other spells.

Silas, all three of those spells are available, so you may acquire them at the normal cost from another wizards spell book.
I didn't finish creating the map last night as I'd hoped, but will get it over the weekend.
After preparing sufficiently for the journey, the group finds itself in the darkest parts of the forest after six days of travel. Many of the trees here are ancient. Oaks with trunks 6' in diameter, or more. Birch, cedar, sycamores. An occasional willow standing alone in a small clearing where sunlight is allowed in.
Surprisingly at the edges of the few clearings that the party crosses there are also wild growing fruit trees. Apple, peach, pear, apricot, and cherry.
Sindri Quarrysson |
So before we set off, I'm going to have a Daikyu(composite longbow +0) commissioned although with a gnomish flair to it, masterwork. As for arrows, I'm going to buy 20 blunt, durable, thistle and some incendiary. I'm broke now.
Sindri will look in awe at the towering trees, the only thing close to their size were stalactites and stalagmites deep beneath their feet in his old homeland.
Making sure to pick some fresh fruit along the way."We don't have this where I come from, only mushrooms and algae. We could use some, smells divine." said the Svirfneblin as he put a variety of apples, peaches and apricots into his bag. Remembering what the huntsmen told him,"Be on the lookout for a tiny green thorned elf of sorts."
Sindri Quarrysson |
Sindri will chuckle,"well you know how these humans are somethings, maybe it was a hogweed bush he tripped in front of or he was drunk, I heard a story once of a drunken king that died to a boar."
Sindri will reign in his emotion, to be clear headed was important. Be quick or be dead he remembered before a flashback of a whip made him uneasy. " Well small things that can't be seen are what we should be concerned, I have some experience in that field, also something that small might go straight for our members."
Sindri will look towards Silas,"I felt unnerved in town, almost as if I was in danger. We don't the job done when others couldn't, they're not going to be happy about that. Anyways it must of slipped my mind."
Hideaki Taejin |
Before leaving the town, Taejin will return to the stables and retrieve his pack mule, leading the animal along with the party. While he doesn't have a large enough tent for the entire party, he does have a tent stored in the animal's saddlebags, among other things. Taejin will examine the fruit trees, plucking only what he can eat then and there rather than risk the simple peril of not being able to eat what he gathers before it goes bad and having to dig rotten pears out of his bags. when Sindri voices his concerns, he shrugs. "I'll try to keep an eye out, but I'm not too concerned. Maybe I'm overestimating whatever happened to us, but I'm not terribly concerned with tiny fairies at the moment."

"Confidence: Worry not! Whether abnormally sized or proper height elves, I am positive our group can handle the task at hand given to us. We work well together when the duty calls for it," the wyrwood said, doing his best to keep the group from speaking any more words that could jinx the party. Normally not the superstitious type, he did still hold some belief it was best not to tempt the fates, or worse, catch the ear of some terrible God of misfortune.

Almost certainly what the old trapper encountered was creatures from the world of the fey. Often such creatures are resistant to damage from weapons not made of cold iron.
Based on the meager description, you'd guess the trapper encountered either Asrai, water sprites that protect rivers, ponds, or lakes from contamination by other races. Or Atomie. Atomie are not exclusive to forest regions, but do prefer to live where nature is unmarred.
Most types of fey are able to employ magic from the old world in some form. Often such magics help them hide from others, or play tricks and pranks on the unsuspecting.
Asrai often employ mind effecting magics, charm, hypnotism, sleep, or hideous laughter. They can also summon weaker creatures to help them fight, and summon clouds of fog and mist.
Atomie are known for their ability to turn invisible, and cause items and people to shrink in size. They are also able to speak with animals, create dancing lights, and can fly on a pair of small wings.
The group must certainly be near the area where the magic that Ris'jae spoke about is emanating from. The endless trees make it hard to see though.
Having arrived in the region that must be near to where the source of magic is emanating from, the woods have grown noticeably quieter. Not that there is a complete absence of bird song, or other signs of wild life, there just is less of it than before.
As you listen closer, you hear the tinkling of what sounds like bells nearby. It isn't very loud, but the sound is unmistakable.
Marching order? Single file or side by side? Or other 'formation'?
Due to the thickness of the trees and leaves, any ranged attack over 20' distance is going to suffer a -2 penalty to hit due to partial cover. Any ranged attack over 40' the target will have cover giving a -4 to hit. Anything over 60' will have total cover.
Silas Kaine |
"These tiny green elves the trapper spoke of are most likely fey creatures. Without seeing them first hand, I would guess that they are either sprites or atomie. Either would be resistant to weapons not made from cold iron, and both will have magical abilities innate to their races." Silas tells the group.
"Expect trickery and deceit from them if we come into conflict, these are not the simpleminded goblins we encountered before."
(I would recommend Sindri and Hideaki leading, Silas and Sig in the middle of the group, and Lucius covering the rear.)
Hideaki Taejin |
Taejin nods, taking a position in the lead, slightly in front of Sindri. "Cold iron, eh? I'll be at a disadvantage here, then. No kind of cold iron on me. Could try and grab one if we need to. See how they like using magic when someone's got 'em pinned down." He grins at Sindri. "Now that we're not in the darkness or trying to sneak around, I'm not quite so shy about taking the lead." He shifts his stance slightly, drawing himself up and shifting his weight between his feet. "Listen close, guys. Anyone else hear that? Bells. That sound like faeries to you, Silas?"
I think we should stagger Sindri and Taejin, with Taejin standing in front on one side and Sindri ten feet back diagonally. Then a ten foot gap, then Silas and Sig side by side, and Lucius another five feet back. It's still Fireball Formation, but we really oughtn't to be seeing that one for another level anyway. At this point it's more important that we be able to help each other quickly. Taejin can get from the front to the back with a swift action if he really really really has to. Mythic Power ftw? Sindri's far enough ahead to double check for traps and ambushes with me, and close enough to Sig and Silas that they can move to cover him if melee breaks out. At the same time, Lucius can also be covered by everyone if he gets jumped, since he's only five feet from Sig and Silas and 15 from Sindri.
WT-516: Codename Sig |
That way of formation sounds good to me. Keeps us well seperated and covers each other nicely.

Sigfried glanced around, unsure if he heard any sound of bells or anything, but certainly now more on focused for it. The idea of fey didn't bother Sigfried any. Being a construct, his mind wasn't easily distorted. He would do his best to keep his mind intact, and ready to assist his allies in breaking any enchantment or trickery the enemy could attempt.
Sindri Quarrysson |
Hmm, that sounds like a decent formation. I'm good for it. Also to the Dm, do you count my mythic rank for my spell resistance?
Sindri will smile back at Hideaki,"don't forget about small crawling spaces, my short legs help with that." Flashing his bow and blade at the human,"while it's not in my profession, I've got your back. I wouldn't count sneaking out yet, remember we're in their territory. Watch out for traps and underbrush, no need to make extra noise."
Sindri will look around the clearing, trying to spot any still figures or potential trees and shrubs that look out of place.

Sindri, mythic tiers do not add to your SR.
Now that Hideaki has mentioned it, others taking a moment to listen can also hear the faint tinkling of bells ahead. The sound of them is reminiscent of wind chimes - a random tinkling that picks up slightly as the wind blows harder through the trees.
Moving forward cautiously Hideaki and Sindri quickly uncover the source of the sound. Four camouflaged coils of rope hang down near the trees, forming loops at the bottom, waiting for an unsuspecting foot to trip the snare traps. There are small bells attached up in the branches overhead that will ring upon the trap being sprung.
The snares do not appear to be designed to injure, only capture, though being pulled upwards through the branches of the trees may inflict some superficial wounds never-the-less.
Disable device rolls if you need hints to disable these traps, though I imagine in this case you can figure it out on your own - there isn't anything complex about them.
Hideaki Taejin |
Taejin regards the setup with mild amusement. Simple, but effective. "And we seem to have a couple options before us. We could dismantle these silently and proceed onward, or trigger the bells and hide to ambush whatever comes to investigate." As he talks, he looks around, attempting to double-check that the snares are not being actively watched.

Sindri will quickly remove a few of the apples from his bag, putting them through an arrow to make it a heavy apple kebab.
"There you go, now Silas do you happen to know...uhm what was the name of that spell. Ah yes, mage hand? If we all go and hide now, you can lift and drop the kebab onto the trap with the spell? If not maybe I can fire a blunt arrow at it or maybe Luc can use his telekinesis."

The clunky construct would do his best to hide and blend in, but his body wasn't meant for this sort of thing. He hoped that his wooden body would stick out less amongst the bushes and trees, but couldn't know that for sure. All he could do was trust in his friends plan and keep on the lookout for those who had set up the carefully hidden traps.

You recall nothing particular about bells in regards to fey.
With everyone hiding as best they are able, Silas sets off the traps. The empty rope loops thrash upwards into the trees, and the bells ring out in a clear tone before the forest is once again nearly quiet.
After several moments you see a very small humanoid figure with green skin flitting through the trees on tiny wings. The creature couldn't be more than 6 inches in height, if that. It stops about 30' away, then looks back and motions with one hand. A second similar figure joins it, then two more. The first points in the direction of Lucius. The four begin what appears to be whispering to one another.
Hideaki Taejin |
Taejin regards the four creatures pointing at Lucius and whispering, straining his ears but failing to hear. He does nothing for the moment, trusting his companions to be on guard, but should they make hostile movements towards Lucius he stood ready to intercept.
If one of them tries to attack Lucius I want to wait for them to close to melee and then use a mythic power and a swift action to do a fleet charge, then try a full attack, if you'd be alright with this.

It was in the moment of strain he managed to finally lock on to his target. He would slowly draw out his weapon, clutching it tight. These are indeed atomie. Such creatures are generally not evil, but are not afraid to stand up to anyone invading what they consider their territory, despite their diminutive size. Cold iron weapons will prove most effective against them.
