The Tomb of Horrors Part 1 (4e) - Group 1

Game Master Rev Rosey

The monster that is Tomb of Horrors.
Two groups are going through this.
For some reason I set up a second game thread for Group 2, but not for Group 1.

You ain't dead yet anyway...besides a darn good healer is up next.

Female Human Monk/Master of the Four Winds 17

Totally missed it, and TOTALLY glad you're giving it to me. Note to self: pay MUCH closer attention to HP totals to prevent, getting OTKO'd by a BBEG in the first round. XD Retroactively spending a surge before the fight to add +25 HP to her current total. She is in fact, at 22 HP.

It LOOKS like Anri collapsed. Instead, she rolls backwards, gliding through the air with her Five Storms movement training. Still dazed, it's all she can do at the moment.

And then everything snaps back into focus, and then she grins. She's a little shaky, but still upright.

"...Moggy here packs a punch. I was dead on my feet for a minute."

And with her available move or standard before the daze lifted, I shift her out of the line of fire. Let the fun continue.

By the by, Anri, the entire deal with Moghadam here is that he is the architect for the Tombs we've been traversing. Naturally you get the part about him being betrayed by Acererak, I just realized no one ever clarified that. Akemi's not the talkative type, you see.

Female Human Monk/Master of the Four Winds 17

I guessed that Out of Game, but Anri's playing it by ear since she has never seen him before. And now it doesn't matter because Moghadam has made it clear that he needs to be dealt with using EXTREME measures. XD Fun times ahead!

You're welcome. In a table game you'd definitely have taken that short rest.

Reeling from Moghadam's gloomy barrage, Anri rolls clear and nurses her bruises.

While unbloodied, Moghadam has an aura two. Any enemy that starts its turn in the aura takes 2d10 psychic and is dazed to the start of its next turn.

Anri - BLOODIED

Male Deva Shaman 17, Scion of Renewal

Rothel's concern is focused on how much hurt this thing can spread around. He moves up beside Anri as Rahz-Ahk moves closer to him, and plants a spiritual totem in the ground, and waves of energy resonate from it. He directs the energies to Anri, as waves rush from Rahz-Ahk into Akemi. When he does so, the totem flashes with power as a little wash of life touches the group.

Move to H9, RA to I8
Standard, Battle Standard of Healing, Zone Burst 5 as long as standard is planted. When I or ally spends a surge, all in zone gain 1 HP.
Minor, Healing Spirit,
- Anri gets Surge+6
- Akemi gets 4d8 ⇒ (2, 2, 4, 7) = 15

- Everyone gets 1 HP

Rothel sets to work bringing succour to his allies.

Stand up.
Lightning Spike vs M vs Fort

On the other hand...

Lisbarr gives Moghadam's sword a stern look. "Well...?"

Lisbarr stands up in readiness to make himself known to the enemy. His lightning greeting is brushed aside.

Lisbarr:
I'm not sure you're worthy after all. You seem to be dying rather quickly.

The voice in Lisbarr's head is becoming petulant.

M Hobgoblin Battlemind/Quicksilver Demon 17 (Foe Killer)

With the pit traps not all discovered, Lyan does not do his usual skating about the battlefield. He is no less effective, though, in keeping the opponent pinned.

Save vs Daze (superior will) 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Total psychic damage at start 2d10 + 30 ⇒ (2, 2) + 30 = 34
After my resist-ongoing 6, I'm at 37.
Minor: Quaff potion of regeneration (heroic - regen 5 when bloodied TEOE)
Minor: Battlemind's Demand - mark for duration
Standard: Rebounding Dance aug2 vs AC.

1d20 + 21 ⇒ (1) + 21 = 222d10 + 1d6 + 21 ⇒ (7, 2) + (4) + 21 = 34
AP: Lodestone Lure aug2 vs Will

Summary: Not dazed, not vulnerable. At 37 (bloodied), taking 10 ongoing psychic, regen 5. hit M for 32 (including vulnerability, not halved). Marked M. Lodestone Lure on M. M knocked prone. 3 PP remaining. AP used.

Edit: also pulled Mog, and forgot the CA, but irrelevant. Complicated turn!

Anri Current Status:

Moving comparatively sedately, Lyan topples Moghadam again, leaving the wraith floating sideways. The hobgoblin watches with satisfaction as the radiant light surrounding his foe blazes, searing at their undead enemy.

Moghadam wails horribly. "Just join my army! Is that so much to ask? Death is a little thing."

To better make healing plans, it would help if everyone lets me know how you are doing HP wise. Numbers are not necessary, but a "I'm about 3/4, 1/2, or 1/4" would help (or I'm Hurt, Bloodied, or Greatly injured). I was going to use a big heal that gets everyone, but I thought only Anri and Akemi were that bad off.

ongoing, aura and vulnerability really can change a character's status in a turn in this fight. For your purposes, Akemi is currently considered hurt.

Male Orcish-Nerathi Chelaxian Hybrid Ranger|Executioner Assassin

Rothel, I am unharmed, (so far).

"Army you say? Now as much as I'd like to list 'served under the very model of a modern Moggie General' on my résumé, I'll only consider defection in exchange for a lifetime's supply of Turkish Delight."

Upon realising that Moghadam can renege on such an agreement by simply killing and reanimating the half-orc, Norrin covers his surprise with an onslaught.

Minor: Gap in the Armor
Until the end of this encounter, Norrin gets a +2 power bonus to attack rolls against Moghadam.

Grappling Spirits with Furious Assault against a prone Moghadam: 1d20 + 21 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 21 + 2 - 2 = 38 vs AC.

2d6 + 16 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (5, 6) + 16 + 3 + 3 = 33 radiant damage.
Hit: Moghadam is slowed and can't shift until the end of his next turn.

Move to B9 and while making a Stealth check 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (5) + 19 = 24 to become hidden from Moghadam.

Office Use Only:

Perception to continue to see Norrin: 1d20+12=30

@Norrin - the thick black lines are walls. I've moved you out of the stonework.

Moghadam gives Norrin's offer serious consideration - serious enough to distract him while the half-orc lands a debilitating blow.

"I see your power, I do indeed. Does this come from Delighted Turks? Tell me more!"

The wraith babbles happily as he continues to assault the companions. Tipping himself back upright, he call on his inner darkness once more and attacks.

Aura damage 2d10 ⇒ (8, 4) = 12

Defining Cut

Rothel might need to heal me fast if this doesn't hit.

Anri says, "Right. I'm through running, I AIM TO MISBEHAVE!"

She feels the distinct desire to be wearing a long brown coat. It passes, and so does she. She vanishes, reappearing behind Moghadam.

Arc of the Flashing Storm, Movement technique, Anri teleports her speed.

Anri's body crackles with electricity, and it all coalesces into her arm as she thrusts her open palm hard into Moggy's chest.

Arc of the Flashing Storm, Attack, Dex vs. Reflex.
1d20 + 20 ⇒ (3) + 20 = 23
2d10 + 10 ⇒ (7, 8) + 10 = 25

Spending an Action Point. Attacking with FURIOUS BULL! Attack is Dex vs. Fort.

1d20 + 20 ⇒ (1) + 20 = 21
2d6 + 10 ⇒ (1, 6) + 10 = 17

She tries to gather the strength of the bull for a barrage of destruction. And then blinks suddenly. It's not there. Her inner strength has failed her.

She looks up at Moghadam, and quietly whispers: "Uh oh."

Yeah. Somebody use my position to flank him. And heal me if you can. The dice have decided to hate my guts. ;___;

Cheers Rothel. This is a so zone-tastic it makes my brain hurt a bit :)

Male Deva Shaman 17, Scion of Renewal

Rev, since our blindness is darkness originated, would the following allow the others to see me?

Spirit of Dawn; area burst 5 within 10
Minor action
Effect: The burst creates a zone of bright light that lasts until the end of your next turn. You and your allies ignore cover, superior cover, concealment, and total concealment when attacking any enemy that is within the zone. While within the zone, any enemy takes a -5 penalty to Stealth checks.

I'm not Rev, but blindness is total concealment, I think you've got a good shot at it! Now if only you could sustain it that'd be the perfect to dispose of him.

I can't see why not, Rothel. Go for it.

Male Deva Shaman 17, Scion of Renewal

Rothel grows concerned by the veil of darkness dropped over him, and decides to lever his own burst of light to allow them to maintain focus on the enemy. The light emanates from right before him, and grows until it pushes back the dark. He then uses his helm, with its fractal pattern, and absorbs some of the resonant spiritual energies, before sending them out in waves toward his allies. Due to the wash of light and healing, Rahz-Ahk pushes some of his anger into Akemi's soul, causing her to strike.

Minor, Spirit of Dawn centered in H8 so it gets everyone, see above for effect.
Minor, use Item power, Pennant Helm. Rothel spends a surge, but gets no healing, instead, everyone that sees him can spend a surge.
Standard, Spirit of the Killing Shot; Akemi makes a basic attack as a free action with a +5 to atk and dmg. If the attack hits, it deals maximum damage.

Reminder: Everyone gets 1 HP from my spending a surge, and 1/each person that spends one (most likely 3, 1 each from Akemi, Anri, and Lyan)

Good thing you did it in that order, otherwise none of us near Mog could see you to get the surge!

Akemi goes to college for her MBA
1d20 + 22 ⇒ (4) + 22 = 26
1d20 + 22 ⇒ (20) + 22 = 42 I knew it, I just knew!

and graduates Summa Cum Ouch!

45 damage + 3d8 ⇒ (1, 6, 5) = 12 = 57 damage to Moghadam.

Akemi breaks her serene focus for a fierce attack. Moments later, she seems puzzled but not upset.

Nice move, Rothiel

Rothel brings light to the darkness and a stern dose of spiritual healing to Akemi. Urged on by the deva's example, she strikes true, giving the wraith pause.

Moghadam seems slightly disgruntled as the companions can now clearly see him.

"This is not how the undead fight," he complains bitterly. "Too much light. Join me and feel the joy of an eternity of shadow. You will lead my warriors, I promise!"

His sales technique lacks some polish.

Dabbleboard is unavailable at the moment to I'll move Lisbarr when it is back

Lisbarr carefully takes a few steps nearer to Moghadam (he stop fve squares away) then gives him a stern look.

"Are you sure you want us all to join you? That could be a bad thing."

Deadly Doubt vs M vs Will
1d20 + 18 ⇒ (6) + 18 = 24
Well that won't hit...

Lisbarr is starting to have some difficulty in keeping up the appearance of a nonchalant and competent combatant.

Dabbleboard still down for maintenance.

Norrin's antics are fairly distracting. Moghadam observes them with his usual gloomy attention before asking,

NOW bloodied and not happy, and my options are limited, dang I'd like a flank setup...

Bond of Pursuit
1d20 + 21 ⇒ (6) + 21 = 27
1d20 + 21 ⇒ (19) + 21 = 40

for 1d12 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 8 + (4) = 15 radiant damage, so 25 total after vuln.

Akemi hews into the wraith even as its attack ravage her.

save vs ongoing 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

Akemi channels her vengeance into another devastating radiant attack on Moghadam. The wraith is starting to look a little troubled.
