M Hobgoblin Battlemind/Quicksilver Demon 17 (Foe Killer)

Lyan in his plate armor leaves the scouting to others.

Anri, Akemi and Norrin sneak forward and see their long-sought quarry 40 feet below them.

Moghadam is a pathetic sight. He rummages through his books, occasionally pausing to bemoan his fate and the gross ingratitude of his former master and ally. At his side hangs a blackened greatsword, but for now he gives no sign of noticing the intruders.

MAP

Akemi motions to the trapdoor with either an excited, or alarmed motion. She fingers her fullblade, unsheathing it quietly.

Female Human Monk/Master of the Four Winds 17

...because Anri has no idea...

Anri holds up her knife, makes a few stabbing motions, then points at Moghadam, and then shrugs.

The meaning is quite clear: Do I stab him or not?

The moaning and whining and carrying on continue uninterrupted as Moghadam bewails his fate. Unknown to him, it may be about to get permanently worse. Or better, depending on his point of view.

Unless anyone has some buffs to throw out there, let's get this party started!

Those known to Akemi now can sense an eagerness to quell the foe below. She gathers up the tied rope, with Anri's permission of course. ensures the grapnel is secure on the trap door's edge.... If he isn't looking this way lowers the rope as quietly as able, then will start down it.

Stealth?
1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
Akemi's eagerness may be her downfall yet.

Can't fail Athletics, as climbing a rope is DC10.

Judging by the climbing rules, you climb as part of a move action, with the climb taking twice as many squares. 8 square drop means I will need to 'run' while descending, thus granting CA to Moggie.

Let me know if this isn't right.

No, that's right. Only thing is, you can't move as well as attach the rope as this is a surprise round.

Eager to engage with the enemy, Akemi drops a rope and starts down. This time her feet betray her and the scuffling noises alert the outsize shadow to her presence. Moghadam turns his lugubrious eyes on her.

"Fool. You are in the presence of one betrayed. Will you add to my woes with mockery?"

You all get a surprise round action, which Akemi has already used. One of either a move, minor or standard. Only Norrin has LoS on Moghadam and he has cover.

Lyan vaults down and lands on his feet, facing Moghadam. "Yes."

Acrobatics check reduces falling damage to zero, so I land on my feet.
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
4d10 - 32 ⇒ (10, 4, 4, 9) - 32 = -5

well there's what I should've done...nice move, Lyan. The hobbo GAINS Hp from falling.

I stand corrected, half the Acrobatics roll is used so looks like...11 damage from the fall

I did it because your perception is probably higher ;)

Ah, I see ;) You make a convincing argument and I have no problem with this marching order.

Ranged Basic Attack: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (1) + 22 = 23
Norrin's aim is as pathetic as Moghadam's appearance.

Although Norrin has cover, is he hidden, rules-wise?

M Hobgoblin Battlemind/Quicksilver Demon 17 (Foe Killer)

yep. forgot to halve it, so 11 and prone. small price ;-)

Female Human Monk/Master of the Four Winds 17

Anri uses Swift Flight, her encounter utility. This lets her fly 13 squares. She puts herself right next to Moghadam. Seeing as I know nothing of Moghadam, could someone describe him for me? ^^;;;

As Anri alights through the air with the grace only a Master of the Four Winds could manage, she says:

"Hi. I don't know who you are, but apparently you're dangerous? They seem to know what's going on, so I think we'll be fighting to the death. Honestly though, I kind of want to know what it is you're so worked up about..."

No actions left to perform a Diplomacy check with, and it'd be moot seeing as the fight has definitely started. Needless to say though, Anri doesn't look too sure about all of this...

Lyan where did you land? I don't have a position for you.

Norrin - You might well have been hidden, but the abrupt appearance of a hobgob dropping from the trapdoor is likely to draw Mog's attention.

Lyan plunges through the trapdoor to confront Moghadam. A futile arrow from Norrin follows and second later, the flying form of Anri. As the monk lands, the floor proves less stable than she'd anticipated and collapses under her, dropping her ten feet into a pit trap. As she approaches the figure, he turns lugubrious eyes on her and a pressing sense of his need for vengeance overwhelms her.

Anri, you can make a save to stop yourself falling. If not, you take 2d10=8 damage and are prone in a pit.

Mournfully, the wraith starts to monologue.

"You see the most wretched of creatures. I laboured long for my master and friend Acererak. Together we created his resting place. I devised the most cunning of traps, always seeking to better his expectations. My reward was betrayal and the destruction of my finest work. Vengeance, vengeance shall be mine. I shall raise an army and rise against him. And you shall help me."

You all get a surprise round action, which Akemi has already used. One of either a move, minor or standard. Only Norrin has LoS on Moghadam and he has cover.

Male Deva Shaman 17, Scion of Renewal

Rothel calls his fighting spirit to a space near the enemy, just off the floor.

Call RA into H7, 1 sq up off the floor.

Rahz-Ahk shimmers into view in front of the wraith. Moghadam is unimpressed. "Rakshasa. They are all traitrous."

Male Half-Elf Invoker/17 Speaker of the Word

Sighing inwardly at the prospect of yet another rope to fall off, Lisbarr moves as close as he can to the action (which isn't very close...)

Move to I15, and jumping up and down a bit to get a better look

"What's happening? I can't see!"

Lisbarr's wails almost match Moghadam's in intensity.

Doesn't look anything other than useful to me.

Lisbarr, technically you can move into my square, since I'm on the rope beneath it, if that helps

M Hobgoblin Battlemind/Quicksilver Demon 17 (Foe Killer)

Lyan gracefully regains his feet as he launches himself at the enemy.

Minor: Acrobat Boots to stand.
Move: as marked
Standard: Lodestone Lure aug2 vs Will

1d20 + 21 ⇒ (15) + 21 = 361d10 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
13 damage, knocked prone, and can only move adjacent to me TEOMNT

Female Human Monk/Master of the Four Winds 17

1d20 ⇒ 3

Anri cries out in surprise as she falls into the pit.

She may make an acrobatics check as a free action to halve the falling damage. Therefore:

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (11) + 19 = 30

So, the damage is reduced from 8 to 4. however, the rules DON'T say whether or not she's still prone after the successful Reduce Falling Damage check. Your call I guess.

From inside the pit, everyone can hear Anri shout, "Okay. Enough talk. Now you're going to get fried into a million teeny-tiny explode-y electrified BITS."

Anri Vitals:
HP: 76/100, 6/8 Surges, AC: 34, Fort: 25, Ref: 30, Will: 31

If you make the Acro check, I think you can land upright.

Lyan moves swiftly and surefootedly towards the wraith, wrapping his flaiil around Moghadam. With a disgruntled thump, the wraith is knocked out of the air and pulled gracelessly to the floor. Lyan suffers a similar fate as the floor beneath him gives way.

Immediate save to stop yourself falling, Lyan and Acro check to halve damage if you do fall.

Minor: Norrin deploys the flying hook into the ceiling of H13.

Standard: Effect: Before the attack, move one square onto the rope hanging in H13. Deft Strike: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (1) + 22 = 23

Move: Norrin climbs down three squares.

Thanks Akemi, if that's OK with Rev, I'll move Lisbarr there, ready to fall off the rope on his next turn

Dabbleboard not cooperative. Lisbarr's move is fine. Update to follow once I can access map.

Norrin unleashes the flying hook again and uses it to start to shimmy downwards, firing off a warning shot as he does so. Moghadam ignores it completely. Darkness roils around him, attempting to blind Lyan and Anri. He succeeds admirably.

Darkness (Ref). Close burst 5 (enemies). Creates zone of darkness that lasts to end Moghadam's next turn. Creatures within it are blinded on hit.

Akemi is Lyan's shadow, mirroring his acrobatic landing, though she does it a moment later after any chance of stealth was already done for.

Free: Freefallin!

Fall damage from 4 squares up:2d10 ⇒ (2, 9) = 11
I need a 22 to negate fall damage.
Acrobatics
1d20 + 18 ⇒ (12) + 18 = 30

With nimbleness, she lands on her feet, one hand before her steadying against the ground. Silently relishing this moment, she dedicates herself to the wraith's destruction, complete with finger pointing, and thumbs down.

Minor: Oath of Enmity on Mog.

Seeing the others precarious issues though, she doesn't foolishly rush in, though her zealotry silently rages. She takes a moment to regain her serene disposition.

Passive Perception of 28 for any more stinking pits. Doubt I can spot them in transit and stop myself?

Move: H7 underneath Rahz.

Minor: Deadly Calm - UEOE, if both of my Enmity rolls hit, he'll take 8 extra damage.

Akemi bounds down and realises she has had a narrow escape as she spots a slight discrepancy in the stonework next to her. Centring herself, she prepares for battle, aware even as she positions herself of Moghadam's despairing aura sweeping over her.

M Hobgoblin Battlemind/Quicksilver Demon 17 (Foe Killer)

Lyan immediately lashes out at Moghadam, even though blinded.

Immediate Reaction to being hit: Persistent Harrier. 35 vs AC for 19. Can't teleport while blind, so that's it.

1d20 + 21 - 5 ⇒ (19) + 21 - 5 = 351d10 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19

Female Human Monk/Master of the Four Winds 17

Superior Will gives Anri a free shot at getting out of this dazed silliness. Sadly, the 2d10 Psychic is non-negotiable.

1d20 ⇒ 19

She's free of the daze, but here comes the damage.

2d10 ⇒ (6, 6) = 12

Ouch, and that's 12 points added to her total.

Anri flips up to her feet.

Agile Recovery (Utility At-Will): She's on her feet as a minor action.

She floats up the ten or fifteen feet required to place herself outside of the pit and next to Moghadam.

Master of the Four Winds, Mystery of the East Wind, and the Five Storms movement technique, as always.

Anri says, "Come on, Big guy, tell us more. It will tell me where you stand!"

And then she unleashes a fast strike to knock him down.

She is blinded, so he has total concealment against her. Otherwise, it's Dragon's Tail as normal.

Dragon's Tail (At Will) (Dex vs. Fort) (Successful hit knocks target prone): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31

That was a good roll, but total concealment is killing me here. Here's a damage roll in the event that the attack hits.

1d6 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13

If that hits, add +7 Damage from Flurry of Blows, and slide target 2 squares...into the pit trap Anri just fell out of. Which I think will be another 2d10 damage on the big guy. IF Dragon's Tail hit. And IF he's small enough to get something stuck in said pit trap.

Anri Vitals:
64/100 HP, 6/8 Surges, AC: 34 (37 vs. Moghadam if attack against Moghadam hits, and the above things happened), Fort: 25, Ref: 30, Will: 31

Lyan's instinctive attack hits the wraith, but try as she will, Anri cannot make contact with her foe.

Moghadam floats pathetically before her and turns lugubriously to the monk.

"I seek an army. An army to bring down my former friend and master. You will be part of it perhaps. Under my command, you shall raze him from the worlds. My sweet dream of vengeance."

Reluctant, but feeling forced due to not being close enough to provide healing to anyone, Rothel tries to make his way down the rope as best he can. He has to wrigle past Norrin, and as he nears the bottom, he drops the last ten to fifteen feet, relying on his cat tabi to help him out.

Athletics, two move 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28, 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
For the last 10-15' 1d10 ⇒ 4 (takes half: 2, and lands on his feet)

Athletics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10

He falls the remainder of the way in an undignified plop, flailing madly as he does so, trying to land with some degree of elegance.

But fails.

Falls prone in I13 takes 1d10 ⇒ 1 damage (I think it is only 10 feet of fall).

"I meant to do that."

Lisbarr makes it to the floor, albeit with less grace than he might have intended.

Lisbarr:

save vs vulnerability 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

While the Avenger is wounded from the initial assault, she quietly enjoys giving in kind.

Er, I didn't add in the Radiant vulnerability, so tack on 20 more dmg. Cry some more!

Akemi turns as misty as Moghadam himself and then outlines the wraith in divine light as she first abjures and then wraps him in the prayers of Ioun. Her abjuration is not as effective as she had hoped and the wraith can yet move. Even so, her divine power has damaged him.

MAP

Score, 70 damage. Not too shabby!

Female Human Monk/Master of the Four Winds 17

IMMEDIATE INTERRUPT!: Iron Dragon Defense on Moggy's second attack, reducing it's 23 damage to 8 damage. Current HP now 42.
(Life, the Universe, and Everything.)

Immediate save vs. Dazed: 1d20 ⇒ 1

Anri can't quite recover from it this time. And then she's struck by Moggy's aura once more.

Yeah. I think Anri is about to die. I never declared I spent healing surges after the combat, and I don't remember anyone spending an action to heal her, so here's how this plays out:

2d10 ⇒ (8, 7) = 15

Current HP now 27. This becomes 17 due to Anri's current psychic vulnerability. I'm getting nervous over here.

And now the last 10 damage that continues until save ends. Unfortunately, it's Psychic damage, so add another 10 from the vulnerability. Current HP is now -3 after that.

Anri is struck too hard, too fast, and collapses under the weight of Moggy's fast and overwhelming attack attacks.

Save vs Ongoing Damage: 1d20 ⇒ 18

Yes!

Save vs Dazed: 1d20 ⇒ 19

YES!

Save vs. Vulnerability: 1d20 ⇒ 15

AND MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU! But it won't mean a thing if someone doesn't give her a serious HP boost. Fast!

As Anri collapses, she manages to gasp out: "No...can't give up...can't die here...somebody...help..."

Anri Vitals:
DYING! HP -3/100, Surges: 5/8, AC: 34, Fort: 25 (Currently 27 from Armor), Ref: 30, Will: 31

Anri, you had the opportunity for a short rest after you dropped down the hole after the gargoyle fight. This is pbp and these things are easy to miss. Please can you look at all that and take account of any surges you would have spent to get back to full before moving down the crawlspace and into Moghadam's lair. Unless you'd rather collapse dramatically of course :D
