The Tomb of Horrors Part 1 (4e) - Group 1
Game Master
Rev Rosey
The monster that is Tomb of Horrors.
Two groups are going through this.
For some reason I set up a second game thread for Group 2, but not for Group 1.
I am in favor of grinding it into gravel for the sheer reason that it ticked me off by being a stubborn, evasive foe. If only I could've really done a coup-de-grace on it...
Having an adventurer's kit, I have 50 feet of rope, anyone got another? I've got 14 in athletics, so climbing a rope is an auto success, assuming the DC is 15
Akemi starts removing the rope from her pack, in preparations to descend.
DC15 Athletics please. You move at half speed down the rope and there are 16 squares, so for the sake of argument, I'll call it four rolls each. If you fluff it by more than 5 you fall. Actually, I don't think any of you CAN do that badly, but you might.
Akemi shimmies down the rope with extreme grace and discovers a narrow tunnel ahead of her. Completely invisble from above, it will allow a person to crawl through it.
Lisbarr never liked climbing either up or down. He promises himself that, when he gets back to some sort of urban society, we will start working out a bit more.
Yay, Rothel can fail. Can we take 10? Seems kind of defeating the encounter, but then again I never liked the take 10 or 20 rules.
Athletics 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Athletics 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Athletics 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Athletics 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Athletics 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Athletics 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Rothel is a little nervous at the top, and gets nowhere, but soon finds a technique that works for him and makes his way down with less difficulty than he had expected.
M Hobgoblin Battlemind/Quicksilver Demon 17 (Foe Killer)
Akemi and i both mentioned brief rest -- have we had a chance? If so, I'll happily spend a surge.
Almost all of my dailies are gone, too, from the simulacrum fight, but I'm good on surges.
Fretting about the ropes serves to distract the party from their immediate problem. Whether or not to advance down the narrow tunnel. Two can fit abreast, but it will only be possible to crawl, so low is the ceiling.
Welcome back! ^_^ ...in other news: we had to connect the Flying Hook to the Rope of Climbing to get down here, didn't we? Which means that we wouldn't be able to reach back up with just one of them. :(
"...We may want to leave the ropes here for now? Do we know if that path has a way out?"
Anri shrugs:
"I mean, I'm stuck with you all either way. If you think it's a good risk, I'll do it. But I really don't want to be stuck down here without something tricky.
I'm Anri's Player, and I approve this marching order. ;D
Matters arranged to their satisfaction, the group moves on down the tunnel. It extends a mere 60 feet or so before light in the form of an open trap door greets the party.
To put you all out of your rope-obsessed misery (and it is well-worth hanging onto that flying hook and the Rope of Climbing), you will be able to retrieve them both. Whether you want to do that now is up to you.
"There is someone, or something asking us to help him/it. Can anyone else hear it? He is saying that we should retrieve him from his failure and help fulfil its purpose."
