For some reason I set up a second game thread for Group 2, but not for Group 1.

Lyan moves cautiously into the chamber as Rothel calls out his lengthy warning.

Peering past the hobgoblin, Rothel realises that the materials on the work table are required for the proper mummification of a body and that this process has been left incomplete on the corpse he can see.

"So… what sort of evil is ol' Acky up to this time?" He looks around, asking no-one in particular.

"Incomplete burial rites? Must be running out of things on his evil to-do list."

M1 is slumped across the worktable, exhuding dust, but not otherwise doing anything of interest at this time.

Rothel steps up into the space left open, but still feels protected, between Lyan and Norrin. "Well, the whole affair appears to be along the lines of the mummification lines of burial rites. This is an unusual and somewhat disturbing process involving removal of certain vital organs which are subsequently stored within canisters to be interred with the deceased. Now, folklore intimates that those thusly affected by the aforementioned process have an otherworldly disdain for having their rest disturbed. I would hazard a suggestion that any of us refrain from anything that could be construed as disruptive to the eternal sleep of these mortal forms in their state of being." Rothel takes too long to basically say, that he thinks they shouldn't mess with anything.

Rothel dredges through his extensive memory and remembers some useful things about mummys.

They are not intelligent combatants, tending to slam into whoever last hit them if possible. Capable of cursing their foes and pulling them close with their winding sheets, they are immune to disease and poison, while their undead state also gives them resistance to necrotic damage. More dangerous is their own infection. If they hit hard enough, they send up a cloud of dust spores that settle on an attackers lungs weakening them and reducing the benefits of healing.

As the party gathers uneasily in the doorway, M1 stirs slightly - awakened perhaps by the lure of the living.

I'll delay until after Rothel, so I can see what the team wants to do, and all the while still make use of First Strike.

Rothel moves towards the other entrance, hugging the wall so as to not provoke any of the still forms on the tables. His hope is that Lyan can quickly dispatch the current threat without arousing the ire of the others. "They are disease-ridden, and could potentially pass that along if they hit hard enough. I will conjure a detoxifying wash to rain down, preventing the possible contraction of the filth borne on them."

Lyan plants himself firmly next to M1 and prevents it from going far, while Rothel bathes the area in spiritual disinfectant. Norrin fires a fierce arrow into the creature, and stays out of its eyeline.

The mummy seems confused by the barrage of effects, but pummels at Lyan, while M2 stirs and rises. More disturbingly, it seems to heal before your eyes.

The aura of despair surrounding the creatures is potentially devastating, but Rothel now sees that it may be possible to prevent them all from rising. On the worktable he sees enough herbs, oils and bandage strips to quiet two of the unhappy undead.

Lyan's attack catches the end of one of M1's bandages and he unwraps a significant section of the corpse as he shifts around it. Akemi bows in acknowledgement of his graceful manouvere.

Rothel realizes that not all of these have yet risen as undead. If he can just get his wits about him in regards to the parts of the process, and its social ramifications on the nature of what it is that compels them to rise, he can possibly deduce how to prevent such a thing based off the items littered about the tables. To buy himself some time, he instructs Rahz-Ahk to be nearby in case the others need him.

He remembers where it was he had learned of them, it ws in Grimoire Civia Mortis. Now he just needs to focus his memory on the rituals themselves and what he read from those books.

No worries, Rothel - my own fault for not being clear enough.

Rothel keeps his attention on M3 and moves to help the cursed being. Drawing on the knowledge of his many centuries, he traces sigils on its chest, urging the creature to accept death.

Getting the idea, Norrin fires a passing shot at M1 and moves to hold M3 down while Rothel brings it peace. His attack briefly bloodies M1 before it heals again.

Ignoring Akemi, M1 slams into Lyan again.

Rotting Slam (AC) at +2 for the mark and 1d6 extra damage on hit.

M2 lumbers to flank Akemi, but the warrior maid's divine confidence protects her.

M3 stirs as it feels Norrin's hand on it and senses Rothel's arcane interference. The dark magic infusing it prevents the creature from readily accepting help and it pummels at the ranger.

Lisbarr moves into the safety of the disinfected zone and attacks two of the mummies. But he does wrinkle his nose a bit.

Lisbarr's strange gesture bounces off M3, but the radiant halo surrounding M2 blinds and deafens the creature for now.

Akemi stays put, deciding that a blinded mummy will not be able to hit her, and concentrates her attack on M1.

Rothel, being aided by Norrin, tries to finish off the ritual required to keep this mummy at eternal rest. First, however, he must assist his allies. He conjures Rahz-Ahk into the space between Lyan and Akemi, and has the spirit transfer some of it's presence into the two to rejuvenate them. Then he turns back to his current enemy and attempts to perform the processas the creature struggles.

Religion 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (7) + 19 = 26, also, by spending my AP, both Lyan and Akemi get 6 hp. I hope both of those succeeded, looks like I may have spent 2 standards to not do much.


Despite his misgivings, Rothel's memory does not fail him. M3 subsides quietly and peacefully and will trouble the party no more. A wisp of spirit leaves the bandaged form, bows and floats away.

Norrin sneaks up to the first mummy (shift to K13), and jabs it with his sword. As the half-orc tries to retrieve the blade from the desiccated corpse, he inadvertently loosens some of its bandages, causing the mummy to begin to unravel.

Norrin does his utmost to unpack a mummy and succeeds wonderfully. The bandages stream away, sending clouds of dust from the creature.

Stumbling slightly, it unleashes its curse on the companions, leaving only Akemi immune.

Lisbarr blusters his way to attempting something useful.

On hit: 2d8+10=(2,6)+10=18 psychic damage (so 9 psychic because weakened) and if the M2 is hit again before the end of Lisbarr's next turn, it is dazed until the end of its next turn.
Also, the next person to attack M2 gets a +4 power bonus to their attack roll.

He tries to shake off the effects of the curse, but his attentions are more directed at preventing another enemy from joining the fray.

Rothel does his best for his companions before moving towards M6 with the intention of putting it to rest before it can rise.

The Curse is none of them, so I'm afraid no save.

Norrin scampers between Rothel and M2, conveniently setting up a flank as he waves an impotent blade in the mummy's direction.

M2 keeps its attention on the radiant warrior maid, beating relentlessly at Akemi. M4 moves to the ranger and M5 rises and charges towards him as well. Of the three, only M2 has any success as it nearly bloodies the avenger. Norrin somehow manages to fend off both incoming attacks scot free.

Refocusing her Oath, Akemi turns her full attention to M2, but misjudges the attack and misses as a flailing bandage distracts her.

Sorry, the resist 3 wasn't a zone. Everyone was in it when I cast so we all have resist 3 until the EOE.

Rothel, irritated that his intended target had just been tossed off the table he was approaching, grumbles as he scrabbles onto and acroos it to reach the mummy on the other side. All the while his spirit companion sets himself up amongst the larger portion of the allies. He begins to repeat the prayers that laid the last one to rest, but he begins with the minor inclusion of a request for the spirits to bolster his companions.

Move to F7, spirit to H10.
Minor, Healing Spirit, surge+6 on Akemi, 3d8 ⇒ (1, 7, 5) = 13 on Lyan, and Lyan, Akemi and Norrin gain 6 temps.
