He was waiting from confirmation to his roll as anyone does with a brain GM

:(

Sometimes I forget to mention when people don't see anything.

Neither Ptolem or Nil notice anything outside, looking inside they can only peer a few feet into the entrance way as it quickly begins a descent out of sight.

I actually wasn't, it's just been a busy few days. But good to know I won't see any danger if I stumble into it. =)

Ptolem leads the way into the dark, marching order be damned.

Sorry for the delay, yesterday was a very busy day for me.

Ptolem descends and quickly reaches the ground floor of the Burial hall, he immediately passes by a stairwell leading down that has collapsed.

Further ahead he can see the narrow corridor opens into a large central chamber, at the heart of which lies an enormous fountain still flowing after all these years of abandonment, unfortunately it seems to be spouting blood as opposed to holy water.

DC 20 Perception:

Just further ahead of Ptolem you can make out on the left side of the corridor a hidden wall.

Unless otherwise stated all corridors in this level of the Burial Hall are 12 feet tall and 7 feet wide and of worked stone.

Nil seems to see the passage almost as well as his companion Somonti who points it out.

" Ah, what good sight Lady Somonti. I barely caught it myself with my keen elven eyes. Likely it holds something of import; A trap, treasure or convenient passageway is yet to be known. Ptolem, if you would do the honors? "

" Make sure to keep positioning down the path and expect the stairs to fall out possibly "

Nil said offhandedly.

Supremely, or maybe naively, confident in the light spinning around her and the courage of her comrades in front; Somonti continues to follow along, dancing merrily at the back of the group.

I hadn't expected you all to take the first way down you found, a classic mistake on my part.

Ptolem reaches the bottom of the stairs and finds himself in a large dark cavern, very different from the worked stone above him, this area seems to be an entirely natural cave formation.

From here you all can see the cavern you arrive in is about 60 feet wide and the ceiling hides out of sight for most of you all.

In the right side of the cavern you can see the ground dips down into a small ravine.

And two tunnels lead away from the chamber to the east and south.

No sound finds you all down here.

After about 200 feet, you arrive in another chamber this one very much similar to the one you left but noticeably smaller.

From this chamber lies exits to the east and north.

Unlike the prior chamber however this one is extremely noisy as an apparent sinkhole or some other external force allows a great deal of wind to rip through this chamber causing a almost howling wail to echo about.

The sound is shrill and unpleasant and you find it very difficult to hear one another speak here.

Nothing of note on your perception Nil.

I really hope we're not being so stuck in a Perception loop that a straight hallway and the room immediately beyond it don't count as the same area.

200ft is quite a distance compared to right down the hall. Especially when you can only see about 60ft out at any given time.

It's hard to tell for certain Alianne but it sounds like from the ceiling.

Let's have a heading my friends.

I was awaiting reaction from the Cleric, Nil is not a leader sorry. I would chose east however.

Somonti listens to the sound with a cocked head, trying to discern any rhythm to speak of, hearing none she grows frustrated and gestures to the east.

"As fun as this deafening sound is, shall we...

Male Half Elf Aegis 2 | HP 18/18| AC 19 T 15 FF 14| DR 2/- |Fort +4 Ref +5 Will +3 | CMD 19 | Init +5 | Perception +10

" I am one to agree with that statement, though the lack of communication possible inside makes the situation perilous in other ways. Hopefully it is simply a consequence of old architecture. "

"Perhaps if we simply bellow loudly, it will be fine." Ptolem says.

"I'd be more worried about potential threats, out of sight, using the wind to mask the sound of their movement."

Nevertheless, he leads the way east.

Heading East the group passes down another tunnel, this one filled with the skeletons of many small vermin such as rats and bats.

Ptolem entering into the chamber that the tunnel leads into notices that someone clearly must live here, as a large pile of vermin skeletons lies in the corner of the chamber and a bed made of animal pelts lies in another.

Immediately upon entering is a large pile of rocks to Ptolem's left and a great deal of concentrated stalagmites and stalactites in the center of the chamber divide the room into northern and southern sections that are practically impassable.

Can you spot the danger?: 6d20 ⇒ (5, 15, 10, 7, 3, 13) = 53

The Danger: 1d20 ⇒ 17

Surprise Smash: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
Damage: 2d6 + 11 ⇒ (4, 1) + 11 = 16

As the lightly armored Somonti dances her way into the room, a large hulking humanoid appears from the rubble at the entrance to the chamber and lashes out at her with a gigantic maul.

The strike catches her completely unaware and leaves her unconscious.

DC 14 Local:

Here there be an Ogre.

Monster: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19

Alianne: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (16) - 1 = 15
Neils: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Nil: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Ptolem: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Somonti: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Varian: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Neils is up.

Ptolem, Alianne and Neils are inside the room, Somonti is down at the entrance, Nil is inside the tunnel still with Varian.

The Ogre is between the groups, but out of sight of Nil who is furthest back in the tunnel, Varian can see him though he benefits from cover.

Varian would be in before Somonti and either he would have been the person hit or Somonti would have gone through and Nil right after as per the pre-set movement line.

I must have missed that I thought Varian was right before Nil. OK, not much changes here, just Varian is inside the chamber and Nil can see the Ogre who benefits from cover.

There seems to be nothing special about this guy besides his hammer correct. You didnt describe much what he looks like besides being big. Also do I have any penalties to Perception here? I need to know before I try and use an ability.

Big, ugly and hammery does the job nicely. No penalties to sight based perception, sound is at -4 due to the wailing chamber behind you.

I really like the imagery of Somonti prancing carefree into a room and taking a hammer to the face.

And man, I did not notice before now that we are NOT a very fast party Initiative-wise.

that's a truly beautiful image! So I took 16 damage leaving me on -4 yes?
