Usually something like "hey, we're an intact group that lost our GM - we'd really like to play together, though, and you can be sure of a team that gets along fairly well".

I'd be up for that. I'd also love being able to tie stories together more. There's a few concepts that aren't really workable for a recruitment that I want to play.
We could pitch it and see what happens.

So I guess the next question becomes: try and stick to Tomb of Abysthor or try for something else (which will probably require a reworking of the characters)?

I think I'd rather go with something else. Dungeon crawls don't really do it for me unless there's something more to them than kill the monsters and take their stuff.
I am fine with either, open to whatever excites the GM!
